Came here for a quick lunch and to satisfy some rice rolls cravings. Usually I grab take out here and have only come once for lunch during the summertime. This place has no heat.. it's winter now and everyone's wearing their jacket inside. Kinda made me want to leave and get takeout instead. Aside from the cold issue, the service is prompt and fast. I asked for hot water and it came fast. I mean there are only two other tables at the time. Food is good. Decent for when you have cravings I guess. Also ordered salted fish and chicken fried rice, a little over $12 during lunch. Also asked for no peas, came out how I want! Will be coming here again but for takeout only during the winter! Someone told me this place wasn't very good, I still gave it a try and thought otherwise. I got the beef flat rice noodle, it was very good and had wok hey. The curry beef brisket with rice was also tasty. Their portions were a bit on the smaller side. And the service was quick but particularly friendly. Seating was spacious, we were a group of 4 and got a large corner table with cushion seats. I would come back if I was in the area but maybe not my first choice as there are some really good competition if you're willing to drive a bit more. read more

First off, I only came here because I was in the area with my family and I was looking on goggle maps to see what restaurants there were. My family was hungry and there weren't much options around so I decided to just try out this place. I ordered chicken fried rice with no onions and Shanghai noodles. The portion was quite small for the prices and there weren't much meat in it either. There were some pieces of the chicken in the fried rice that tasted a bit cold which wasn't pleasant at all. The Shanghai noodle was really salty! I overheard another customer that was sitting across from us complaining about their dish being too salty. The service wasn't the greatest either. We ended up at this place because the other congee place we were going to was actually closed on the day we wanted to go. Searched Yelp and found this house to come to. They have a decent selection of items and the things are quite well done. The Chinese deep fried dough was very good and we ordered and extra one after the initial order. It sort of has a diner atmosphere in here but the decor is more fancy with the black chairs. The servers were all older men. We ordered different congee and fried dough. We got a fish congee and also a preserved egg and pork congee. Both were done really well. The fried dough was good too, so much so that we ordered a second order. Solid. Came here for lunch with the family. Passed by this place when was heading to Michaels in the same plaza to pick up some stuff. They have a pretty decent sized menu but we opted for the lunch specials. Ordered the classic Pan Fried Beef Rice Noodle (12.95) and it was very good, it's got that wok hei (if you know you know). Not quite as good as Broadway Restaurant but it's definitely up there. Also tried the Sweet and Sour Chicken on Rice (11.95) which I think was excellent, nice sauce and good amount of chicken. Prices are reasonable, service is good, food is delicious, will be returning to try some other things on the menu. read more

This is not my first time ordering from this place and it's not going to be my last. I think this place is a bit underrated for a small business. Their congee and rolls are surprisingly good, not overly salty but with flavour. It's also reasonably priced compared to other big chain congee restaurants. I was surprised to read some comments about portion. I poured the eggplant dish out onto a plate and you could see there's quite a bit for $13. First time I went there, an Oriental lady, (Bank Manager), sat beside me. Quietly guided me in my choices of food, what to order, and I had a delicious meal and very polite and quick service. She had to leave to get back to work, but instructed the staff to care for me, and to be sure I had help to assist me in paying the bill. Quite an amazing experience and very delicious food. This place may not look as new inside, but the food is not bad! This is the first time the food looks better than their photos on the menu. Even the French toast, on the menu it looked like it uses thin bread , not that appetizing , but when the dish arrived, the French toast was thick and looked delicious!! We always order the oyster congee and it is always fresh and hot! The rice rolls were good too, and also the ribs were amazing. If you're around Elgin Mills and Leslie, Congee House is a great spot to check out. They offer afternoon specials which includes coffee and tea for certain dishes that runs from 2-4:30pm. There is also lunch specials from 11am-4:30pm which is worth trying. Lastly, there's a variety of classic Asian dishes available to try. As this was our first time visiting, we wanted to try their congee and rice rolls. Our server was an old man who was quite friendly and welcoming, and was the only managing the restaurant when we came on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered two congees, and a rice roll which took roughly around 10-15 mins to come. The congees were in big bowls, and definitely a lot for me to finish on my own. There were alot of shredded pork pieces, as well as preserved duck eggs in my congee which was great. The shrimp rice noodle roll was also good, and tasted like the ones you'd get at dim sums. Came here for lunch and it wasn't great. We were there during the lunch special hours, so there was a page menu to choose from. The mongolian noodles and chili chicken on rice were ok. The tom yom soup was not good - the seafood in it tasted a bit funky, and the soup itself wasn't tasty, and the noodles were soggy. The pork jello egg congee tasted funky too, maybe it was the pork. A nice addition to the plaza! Interior is clean and spacious and the service is quick as the restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered a couple things and all had that traditional hk cafe taste without being too greasy or msg heavy. In particular, I found the congee very good, lots of toppings and very smooth. I would be interested in trying other flavours as well next time. While some things like their congee and rice rolls were decently priced, I did find their lunch special rice and noodle dishes a little expensive in comparison to similar restaurants in the area as it does not come with a soup or drink. I have been to this restaurant 2 times in the past 2 months, both times on Sunday morning. The place is not to busy and with a few tables of regulars. Congee I find a little bit watery, so it won't fill your stomach too much. rice noodles wrap are decent and tasted freshly made. TLDR - Authentic Chinese food. Congee and noodle specialists with some dinner dishes. Food quality is pretty good. Pricing and value are reasonable. A good neighbourhood eatery that is worthy of patronizing. One of the many types of Chinese diners is congee specialist, and the name of this restaurant sets the expectation. How does their congee fare? We ordered the Lai Wan Style Assorted Congee. The base, plain congee was creamy, smooth, delicious and quite thick. There were sufficient seafood ingredients though not crowded with them. At a lower price of $6.50, the quantity was alright. Congee House carries the most popular varieties of congee, but not as many as Congee Queen and Congee Wong. The restaurant is quite small, so maybe the variety is limited by the kitchen footage. We also tried other dishes as follow: Sweet Cruller - Sweet and crunchy. Awesome. Must try. Cantonese Stir Fried noodle - Deliciously flavoured & stir fired. Recommended. Tiger Shrimp with Broccoli - Delicious. Pretty plating. Must try Black Bean Chicken - Deliciously stir fried. Chicken strips tasted good but there were too much vegetables. Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll - Taste good. On par with market Hong Kong Milk Tea - full bodied tea flavour with creamy evaporated milk Everything we ordered was well made. The cook here cares about food quality. The texture of the congee is very good, which is what counts the most. All the stir fries, both dinner dishes and noodles, were well flavoured. In terms of pricing, portion and value, everything except stir fried noodle and rice is a single person portion and the pricing corresponds to the portion, so I would say pricing is good, and the value is within the norm. The only drawback is the store visibility. Congee House is located in a major mall with ample parking in private lot. But I could not see the store when driving by on the street or in the parking lot (Shout out the Vanda Y for drawing it to my attention). So glad we now have a new congee place up in Richmond Hill! Surprisingly there aren't many choices for congee and rice noodle rolls up on the north end. Stumbled upon this place and decided to give them a try (and have come back many times since!). As we got takeout, congee comes piping hot even after our 10 minute drive home and was delicious. The dough stick and sweet crueller were fresh and the rice noodle roll was great. Love how everything was packed, no leaky, oily, greasy bags and containers as well. For some reason this restaurant is never busy, I come here for takeout and it's almost always just empty. The black table/chairs decor is a bit dark for a canto food place but I imagine it's just using old furniture from previous restaurant. I usually get their congee here plus a stir fry dish. Calling for pickup is usually available almost immediately, quite convenient. Food is decent size and price and the owner is friendly. read more

This was a really nice surprise with authentic Hong Kong cafe style dishes. We ordered special lunch dishes Pan Fried Rice Noodle, chicken congee, Hong Kong style French toast and hot milk tea. They were all delicious and the service was great. We'll for sure be back! read more
