I used D&S roofing about 12-13 years ago to do a complete tear off and install a new roof. Included several new sheets of plywood. Price was fair and the job initially looked well done. Fast forward about 7 years when I noted water stains on the ceiling of my sons bedroom, about 5-6 feet in from the roof edge. I called and Dominick came to assess. He went on the the roof and miraculously after a very brief look blamed the leak on my lack of cleaning the gutters. ( I have my gutters cleaned twice yearly EXCEPT that one fall when they were not yet done and he was there). I tried to show him a soft spot in the plywood that I found and it went ignored. GUTTERS I was told. My gutters were cleaned about a week later and in spite of that, the water stains worsened. to the point of the Sheetrock sagging. At that time I called another roofer recommended to me. He took one look and noted the flashing on the boiler chimney was not done correctly and on further inspection mentioned that he could have fallen into my attic when he walked on the soft spot. He tore off nearly 1/3 of my back roof. He pointed out to me that the plywood that D&S used to replace my original sheets WAS OF A THICKER SPECIFICATION THAN MY NATIVE PLYWOOD. This caused water from the poor flashing on the chimney to run UNDER the shingles, along the ridge created by the thicker plywood and caused rot and a leak into my sons bedroom. The flashing was redone and new plywood of correct thickness was installed and I have had no problems since. For a company, no matter how good, not to provide service recovery after the sale is outright pathetic. A warranty is only as good as the installer is willing to honor it and Dominick became hostile to me when I suggested he needed to tear off the roof to investigate. My problem may have been uncommon but it is good to know who stand by their work and who does not. read more

I had just bought a house in deer park. And I needed 2 custom skylights replaces. Dominick from D&S roofing. Told me the skylights would be ready in 2 weeks. And THEY WERE ready to the Day. Extremely positive experience working with Dominic & Team. During the pre-sales, Dom was very professional and presented better than the other 3 Roofers I had received quotes from. Pricing was competitive, but I felt Dom had done a better job in presenting the project and explaining the details to us. D&S Roofing is also GAF Master Elite and President's Club, and their reputation is solid. Post my decision, the project moved very quickly. We also accepted Dom's recommendations regarding skylights, roofing color, and various other items after researching these items ourselves (btw, the GAF website is a great resource and a good reference point - we uploaded a picture of our home and overlaid various colors, and by entering your zip code, you can identify home in your area with similar colors to visit). He was spot on w/ his recommendations - we're very happy. We had a full rip & replace on our expanded cape which included replacing four skylights using the GAF gold standard. Discovered that we had major problems with our "old roof" as the home inspector called it. Soon after moving in to our house we were dealing with two leaks. I read reviews and called a few different roofers and got several quotes. After speaking with Dominic it was a no brainer. The owner Dominick responded immediately when I requested a quote to have my roof and gutters replaced. He was prompt, courteous, gave me a fair price and was an absolute pleasure to work with. His crew arrived on time and ready to work. Prior to the work being performed, Dominick explained everything that was going to be done to ensure that nothing was missed. Before they started, they discovered a gap between the chimney and the roof. Dominick had his crew seal it as part of the job at no additional cost. The roof on my sunroom was in really bad shape and required quite a bit of work since it needed to be stripped down to the rafters. The entire crew was very professional and did an amazing job! You could tell they took pride in the job they did. My house looks like new again. They cleaned up so well, they left it cleaner than when they arrived. It did not even appear as if they were there that day. The forman Bill who's Dominick's cousin, was also just as nice and ran the entire job as a well oiled machine. D & S did a great job for us! We researched a lot before we booked them. They were not the cheapest offer we had, but we liked what they offered. Dom came to the house to check out the scope of the job, and he was the most polite and considerate person, he even took his shoes off, because he saw that our shoes were all on a mat near the door! They had to take off 3 layers, and still got the job done in 1 day. We had that torrential rainfall 2 days after the job was done, something like 10 inches I think, and the roof was perfect! I would definitely (and have) recommended them to other people! The only small complaint that I had was that we were finding nails in the driveway and the yard for weeks after, but I don't think there was much they could do about that. read more

Had the pleasure of working with D&S Roofing for a complete roof, almost 4,000 square feet, plus gutters. After much research and after receiving several estimates and comparing the materials to be used by each contractor, D&S clearly came out on top. D&S offered the best value using the best manufacturer materials for covering the roof deck, leak barrier, starter shingles, drip guard, etc. (Other estimates included use of lesser grade roofing materials for sometimes higher quotes.) D&S also has their own crew, several workers who have been with them for many years. The crew workers were punctual, very polite and respectful. You could tell they were experienced and well-coordinated. All were expertly managed by Bill, the foreman who was on-site the whole time for the 2-day job. Clean-up was immaculate and they do not use dumpsters. All debris was carted off each day in company owned dump trucks. Dominick, the owner, was very straight-forward with the estimate which was provided in detail. There was none of the aggressive sales push that I experienced with other contractors. If I could give this company ZERO stars I would. HORRIBLE! D&S Roofing Company is COMPLETELY unprofessional. If you want to be spoken to in a condescending manner then this is your company. We were supposed to have our roof replaced today. They never showed up. We called and emailed, leaving numerous messages over the weekend to confirm with them. We never heard from them. We finally got through to them at 10 am today. (They were supposed to arrive at 7:30 am to start work on the roof). The secretary claimed to know nothing and told us that Dominick, the guy who was supposed to be working on our roof, was at another job. When he finally called us back he said "Well you never got a call from us, you should have assumed we weren't coming today." He said they got backed up because of Saturday's rain and had to finish another job. I said don't you think we should have gotten a phone call to let us know? We were told our date was contingent upon the weather, not on someone else's job. We booked October 6th as our date, unless it rained today and then October 13 was our back up day. (This was also all in writing via email correspondence.) My husband and I took today off from work to be here. Dominick's response was "I won't have you talk to me like you're my mother." HIS MOTHER!!!!! A simple phone call over the weekend to let us know that our MONDAY booked date had to be pushed would have been the professional way of doing things. But that was apparently too much to ask for. Rather, we should have just known through tea leaf reading or horoscope checking that their schedule was pushed back and therefore our BOOKED appointment was postponed. There was no attempt at any customer service or apology for the inconvenience. Instead we were made to feel as if we were the idiots for not knowing they weren't going to show up. They apparently thought the rain date was interchangeable with the booked date and that they were just going to show up whenever it best suited them. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I chose D & S Roofing to replace my roof not only because the estimate was fairly reasonable, but also because Dominick, the owner, was very polite, knowledgeable and pointed out issues to me that other roofing companies did not. In addition, he took the initiative to fix other minor issues that other companies did not tell me about. The day of my roof installation was a dismal, rainy Saturday and although the job took about 11 1/2 hours, the crew did a great job and were all courteous and hard working. Dominick was on-site throughout the day, checking on the progress and inspecting what work was done. When the job began there were issues that were found which ended up costing me way more than I thought I would have to spend, because as it turns out there were two roofs (plywood, shingles, plywood, shingles) on my home. As a result, the roof had to be stripped and done again, the right way. Unfortunately, there would be been no way to have seen these issues until the top roof layer was removed. Dominick was on-site throughout the day, checking on the progress and inspecting what work was done. The materials used are good quality and the work was done in one day. Dominick is very punctual, returned my calls quickly and his crew was at my home only a week after the initial estimate.
