He reiterated that we didn't need to change out our current equipment but if we feel it's important for environmental reasons there are good options. Our neighbor suggested we call their guy. He's been in business for 30 years. Needless to say, the heater was not rusted he showed me the unit was very dirty, the fan motor and wheel were clogged with dirt and there were two dead birds in the chimney. The outside air conditioner was only 10 years old. I'm convinced SK had never done anything other than collect their fee and try to sell stuff we didn't want or need.

At that exact time, I was getting ready to call and cancel because I had already troubleshooted the issue myself and confirmed my system was working normally, so the service was no longer needed. When I originally called, the only fee mentioned was a $120 diagnostic fee. There was no mention whatsoever of a no-show fee or a travel fee. Now they are trying to force me to pay a $59 travel fee, even though the technician arrived before the scheduled appointment time. To make matters worse, this fee was not explained to me until after they had already shown up. Completely unprofessional and misleading business practices.

The technician came out and took a quick look and determined the issue was with the fan blades for the fan motor, as the motor was not binding. This noise was super loud with a grinding component. Well he did not have a fan blade, so he would have to order it. The diagnostics cost me 69 bucks...I would have been ok with that for a thorough diagnostics. Additionally, my system was old so there was a recommendation to replace the system. I agreed that a new system quote was in order. Later, I was told to replace the fan blade (one bolt install) would cost me 385 bucks?... I just ordered the fan blade ($80) only to find out no way that noise could have been coming from a fan blade. Also, I found some repair folks online (youtube) that helped ME diagnose the problem correctly. It was the compressor causing the issue. BTW the price for replacing the fan was in addition to the diag. fee not including it as most companies do... The only good thing that came out of this interaction was the company that sold me the fan accepted the return, and the price I was quoted for the new HVAC units was very competitive. I just did not have the confidence in them to install my system or back the warranty.
