AVOID. This dentist sent me to collections after 2 dental visits 6 years ago...they never called or emailed me once in the 6 years and then I get an email saying I owe $500+. I promptly called the office and explained that A. They never tried to contact me and more importantly, B. The statute of limitations on a medical bill in California is 4 years. Instead of letting it go, they sent me to collections and forced me to resolve this with their outsourced firm who cannot collect because of CA state law. Terrible business practice, terrible communication, no respect for patients (common complaint), and completely petty. And now I have to file a formal complaint with the Dental Board. I'd suggest going to one of the other amazing dental offices in San Diego, because there are many. Why give your business to a team who will have no issue giving you a hard time? If they treated me like this after 6 years outside of CA state law, what other issues can they cause you while you're an active patient? Food for thought. When my treatment was finished, I was left unsatisfied with the results. Instead of working with me to address my concerns and help me achieve the outcome I was originally promised, I was met with an additional charge of $1,000 to fix a relatively minor concern. Dr. Hoffman did call me another day and acknowledged the situation, the refund check was issued within a week, but he asked me to revise the review or delete it, and argued that the call was dropped instead of being hanging up, but please read my statement very carefully, I made another call after the first call was hung up, the second call was picked up and she promised me to call me back, the promised call never came, and they never reached me again, please note, they tried to reach me again and again for service before. I really tired of such business practices, please be aware that this tiny issue lasted one year to be completely resolved, let me ask everyone how many years a single person can live for the entire life? And we only have 32 teeth maximum to use for the entire life, which means we have limited resources to spend, but your dishonest practice is wasting people's lives. Although, I am a victim, without gaining anything from the incident but damages, I would still raise one star for you just because you asked for it and saved me a possible trip to a small claim court. However, please do not contact me in any measure, and remove my chart and information from your system, I am protected by the CCPA and related privacy laws, even there's no written laws, please respect a man using common sense as you want to be treated. read more

Dr Hoffman is the best. After about 5 yrs... ok maybe longer... of not going to the dentist, my teeth needed some extra care. Dr Hoffman took his time and went through the entire treatment plan, and made sure I knew exactly what was going on every step of the way. One of the reasons I hadn't been to the dentist, is the absolutely horrible sound of the drill. Knowing that, one of the headphones wasn't working, so he actually moved us rooms so I could find something to watch on TV. Thank goodness they had some awesome MMA on! I was in this office to see Dr. Hoffman more than two months ago. I was so upset by the experience that I waited to write this review...just in case I felt better about the situation. Unfortunately, I don't. I made an appointment for a consultation for a crown that had fallen off. Looking at the tooth, I could see some decay and knew it was likely I'd have to have some work. Dr. Hoffman confirmed this. It was not an emergency situation as I was in no pain, but I felt "hustled" to get the work done immediately. I said that had a dinner date with a friend I hadn't seen in thirty years. I wanted to be on time and able to talk and chew. Dr. Hoffman assured me that both those things would be doable and said they would give me an estimate. Unfortunately, he numbed me before giving the estimate, which was 50 percent more than I paid a year ago to another dentist in the same geographic area. Since I was numb, I decided to go ahead. The shaving of the tooth and temporary crown were fine, but I was 30 minutes late for dinner and so numb that I could not eat and struggled to speak. In my experience, a new crown usually comes in about a week. This office books you back in thee weeks. When I went back in for the permanent crown, I told Dr. Hoffman that I tend to have sensitive teeth and asked him to be particularly gentle. I declined numbing since a crown shouldn't take long. In spite of my ask, Dr. Hoffman chose to use chemical bonding instead of just quickly cementing the tooth. Instead of having someone hold the suction, this office uses a bite guard with suction. The process was incredibly painful, as he jammed something down in the gum tissue all the way surrounding the tooth. The bonding material also caused intense pain. After about 45 minutes, just when I thought it was over, he said that the suction failed and the area got wet. The crown had to be taken off, and the entire process had to be done again. It took one hour and forty minutes of excruciating pain to get that crown on. I was in pain for weeks after, both unprovoked or if I let any food or drink touch the tooth. I did not call Dr. Hoffman because I would be too afraid to let him touch my mouth again. I finally saw my endodontist, who prescribed a course of steroids to reduce inflammation. The tooth no longer aches constantly, but I cannot chew on it. Only time will tell if it will require a root canal. So, if you want very expensive and painful dentistry, this is the place for you. If not, look elsewhere. read more

So I decided to go and get my teeth professionally whitened for the first time! I was a little nervous but couldn't have had a better experience. The bleaching system is called Zoom! It's a series of 3-4 15 minute sessions. Your comfort level is assessed between each session based on your sensitivity to the bleach. I was able to get through 3 comfortably and the sensitivity after was very manageable. They just ask you to avoid coffee, red wine and any dark liquids or foods for 24 hours. The results are supposed to last up to 4 months. My teeth have never been whiter! I will definitely be back for another treatment in the future. The office is in a great location in La Jolla and all the staff I interacted with were extremely friendly. read more

I feel blessed to have found (through multiple friend recommendations) this amazing place. This was my first time in this office - I was experiencing some discomfort on an upper molar that needed crowning. I went in for what I thought would be a crown and a relatively quick procedure. First everyone from the desk staff, hygienists and dentists were all amazingly kind and customer service orientated. I filled out my paperwork and then was seen by Dr. Hoffman. He carefully showed me pictures of my tooth in question (which was awesome) and then explained my options. The tooth was badly damaged, with multiple fractures - and then he called in his colleague Dr. D'Angelo for a second opinion which felt so great as a patient. They discussed with me my options and ultimately we elected to pull the tooth. First Dr. Hoffmans numbing techniques were phenomenal. I have been to many dentists where this was not the case - where just that numbing process alone is traumatic - but with Dr. Hoffman I had NO pain. The tooth extraction was complex and took hours - both Dr. Hoffman and Dr. D'Angelo worked on the extraction at different times. I felt so blessed to see the complete lack of ego - but doctors had total focus on me the patient - two tremendous doctors indeed. They meticulously performed the procedure to ensure my bone was not damaged. When you hear your dentist say "this is when my OCD kicks in" you KNOW you have found the RIGHT place!!!! I woke this morning with very little pain and swelling. Due to the care of the team and that they really took the time to perform the extraction in a way that would be as little trauma to me - I am confident I will heal quickly. In total I was in the office from 2:30 - 6:30 pm - when most of of the other staff had gone home for the day. When Dr. Hoffman finished meticulously stitching the area, I was surprised to find Dr. D'Angelo come out as I was checking out to find out how I was doing. What a gift to have found this patient-centered dental team. I have to end by how truly grateful I feel to have found your team. Being able to listen to the procedure, the two docs working together - helping one another - all for my personal betterment - it was beyond what I had expected. What could have been a very traumatic experience turned out to be one that inspired me to see how a team comes together in service of their patient. Blessings to your whole team! My college kids visited the office for cleaning and was told they are "in" Guardian network when checked with them. Surprisingly received invoices for our portion a month later and confirmed with the Guardian which the office is not in the network. Emailed the office to check with no response. Called the office and was told "they WORK with Guardian insurance, but they are not IN the network". Too bad they had to play this kind of trick with young adults. Paid the balance and will not come back. Told by the kids the dentists who did the cleaning for them were good though. That's why 3 stars. read more

I chipped my front veneer on Friday and emailed the office on Saturday afternoon. Dr. Hoffman called me within a half hour and offered to come in that evening or Sunday morning the following day. On a holiday weekend may I add!!! I came in Sunday morning. Not only was he incredibly kind as well as his assistant, but did an amazing job!!!! Everyone that has seen me including my family is shocked that my veneer is a temp. It looks beautiful. I can't even imagine what the permanent one will look like. Can't say enough about this office. I was in the dental field for 12 years and prob am over picky because of it. :). I was also impressed with how clean and high tech the office was. They have TV's on the ceiling to help distract you from what's going on in your mouth! The office is nice and all of the staff are very friendly. I had a hard time finding a dentist with integrity and heard of Dr. Hoffman through a friend. I'm so happy I gave him a shot because Dr. Hoffman is hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. I have been with this dentist for over 30 years and they continue to impress me. They are knowledgeable, thorough, and don't pressure you for work that can wait for a later date. I have had a area in my gums that I have had for 20 years, I was if it is not bothering me they will continue to keep an eye on it. Dr. Hoffman and the rest of the team actually made me look forward to going to the dentist. Everyone was so nice and professional. I was able to make an appointment the night before without any problems. One of my veneers had come off at night and they were able to see me first thing the next morning and take care of it on the spot. They have the newest technology, and they can pretty much do any procedure you need done at the office. They also have a variety of payment plans so that lessens a lot of anxiety as well. The minute you walk into their facility you feel welcome and greeted by Desiree. Scheduled for a cleaning, I walked in with some pain in a tooth and without hesitation assured me that they would take the time to make sure it was taken care of prior to me leaving. Hating having my teeth cleaned for years, Kellie made the process extremely easy and with their top of the line equipment I never had the feeling that I was even sitting in a chair getting my teeth worked on. After the cleaning, I was passed on to Dr. Hoffman to assist with my tooth pain. After one quick X-ray, he could easily see that the dentist I had been to prior did some work solely based on my what my insurance would cover. From the minute of his overall assestment, I could tell that he was speaking to me in options, not in insurance dollars. What a relief! Having to replace a broken filling & cracked tooth next to each other, Dr. Hoffman was assisted by Gianna who was right there and seemed to know exactly what was needed. He may have saved me a root canal! Even Dr. D'Angelo stopped in to greet me in the middle of everything and couldn't have been more pleasant. After everything, I was still able to get a complete teeth whitening as the talented Gianna stayed to carry this out as well. I cannot say enough about the staff & class of this team and assure you that it would be hard-pressed to find a dentistry to provide this type of service anywhere in their industry.
