Spent the morning in Norfolk running around the other day and was jonesin' for some home-fries. I asked the woman ringing me up in the parking garage where a good breakfast spot was nearby, and low and behold, D'egg was within walking distance. She even specifically told me their "potatoes were delicious, mmmmm" ... so off I went. I was alone, and decided to sit in the front so by the window, so I could people watch as I ate. I got my coffee and grapefruit juice from my wonderful friendly waitress, Monica, and then I ordered the D'eggwich, with a side of home-fries, which she suggested. My food came out in a flash. Egg over hard with seared tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and sausage on an onion roll. It was simply delicious. There is really nothing fancy about this place, its a diner, with booths, a bar, and friendly people with just, simple food fair. Simple fresh ingredients with very good specials all reasonably priced. I think I paid $8 for my whole meal, cant beat that. If I am ever in this area again, I will come back, hopefully Monica will be there too because she is awesome. read more

A wonderful place to eat. Great food and the service was wonderful. We were there on a Sunday morning and the place was packed. The gentleman in charge of bussing the tables was outstanding. He spoke to every customer and went out of his way to help the waitstaff but bringing silverware, helping to seat guests.etc. We will definitely be back. Came here for the first time today and it was a lovely experience. Nice quaint atmosphere with pleasant music playing just loudly enough but not too loud and the hum of friendly chatter in the background. I had D'egg Sandwich and grits and it was delicious. My waitress. Chelsea, was amazing! From her approach to her demeanor and attitude - she was just great. I was so impressed with her that I relayed that to her and also had the manager, Monica, come over to let her know as well. This place is definitely a food stop in Norfolk. They have amazing French toasts and fresh squeezed juices. I recommend the Wisconsin Feast and for 2.99 extra you can get stuffed French toast ( my personal fav is the phunkey monkey which is banana and Nutella). D'egg is ridiculously delicious. read more

This is your typical neighborhood breakfast joint/good hangover meal. The menu is expansive and the portions are quite large, but I am sure you can make a comparable, or even better, breakfast at home. I will say, I would rather go to D'egg than IHOP. But nonetheless, the food is exactly what you would expect from a breakfast diner, nothing more and nothing less. The fourth star came from the service because our server was GREAT! This place is awful! if there were a negative star I would have used it. Instead of having breakfast the the Hilton we decided to give this local place a try, it always nice to give local business' a chance rather than to eat at a chain or at the hotel; in this case I should have stayed at the hotel. We knew this place would be jammed packed but we took a chance, we waited about 10 minutes to be seated then once seated we ordered our drinks and food. We waited nearly 30 minutes for the food but we didn't make a peep as we knew it was that time of day. Finally the food arrived just to realize the french toast was not cooked thoroughly, this was disappointing as it was the main course. So we told our waiter and she apologized and offered for it to be redone but at this point we were just not interested considering the wait time. We did however asked to speak to the manager, so she went over to get him and this is where everything really went south; As he approached his exact words where what else did you want? we were both in shock and we said well you know our food is raw and we have been here for over 45 minutes now and his response was "I am already paying for it and I'm taking care of it, what the fuck do you want" and proceeded to get into my partners face of which my partner was not going to stand down and confronted him so his next words where: you don't want to hit me cause i have a broken neck; i mean really! is this the way you treat your customers? a simple apology and acknowledgement would have sufficed maybe a speech about how he would be taking to his cook would have been good! we were not looking for trouble or a freebie, we were looking for a meal of which we would have been very happy to pay for....Later I learned that this man is the owner and operator of this place. I'd hate to work for that guy! as we were walking out he made it out like we were the assholes and that we were wrong! no sir you were wrong for treating a customer this way, remember that without our business you don't have a business. My partner is a business owner of a large corporation and this is not the way to do business. So to wrap up this review up, please stay out of this place, the food is mediocre and the service is crap and the customer service is non-existent. The only good thing they have is OJ and that's because a machine juices it. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Walked in- no one greeted me. I sat in a section. Waitresses just standing around. Stared at one of them until she came over. Ordered fresh squeezed OJ and Eggs Benedict. 15 min later, I grabbed another waitress and asked if my food was ready. She went to the kitchen and brought my food back- no idea how long it was sitting in the window. My hollandaise turned into a thick gravy-no flavor, horrible! Not once did anyone ask me how my meal was or if I needed anything. Had to ask a manager for my check and he didn't ask anything about my meal either. Unbelievable. We like to visit different diners wherever we go. D'egg di not disappoint. We had the steak and eggs, omellette, and D'Favorite. Everything was grea. All of the eggs were really tasty (we each ordered them differently). One of us had the home fries and said they were good. Those of us on keto ordered avocado as a side but they weren't used to serving it that way and it was served in weird chunks. We enjoyed our breakfast despite that small imperfection. read more

I had to wait about 5 minutes @ the "wait to be seated" sign before someone acknowledged me, then I was able to find a place to sit on my own at the counter. So, while the food was competently cooked and reasonably priced, the service was horrific! We waited over 30 minutes for our food and our server was desultory and disinterested at best. A place that prides itself on its breakfast menu ought to be able to serve its patrons in less than half an hour. I had to flag down the server for a coffee refill and she did not check on our table while we were waiting. Ordered the "Admiral" I believe. Biscuits and gravy with 2 over easy eggs and a sausage patty. Eggs were cooked perfectly, biscuits were fluffy, etc. also got the "Ninja Turtle" juice. Yum! I noticed others complain about the "juice" being $7. However this was no ordinary juice! It's a kale, ginger, pineapple, celery, apple juice! Made fresh! I think the price is comparable to other places. No complaint from me. The most notable part however was the efficiency. I came in with a group of 16 Middle schoolers on a busy breakfast shift. Great place for brunch on the weekend. It was my first time in norfolk with my family. We adore brunch and I studied a lot of menus online before picking this place. It didn't disappoint I can see why they are busy. Even my one yr old enjoyed her dish of biscuits and gravy. I had the chicken fried steak and my hubby enjoyed fluffy buttermilk pancakes with a side of ham. They also have a nice juice bar. Since I'm an eighties child I had to try the teenage mutant ninja juice. All I can say is yum go ninja go lol. But seriously if you are looking for a great breakfast place with a nice selection this should fit your bill. read more

Everything I ate was good (that's what he said) but most memorable were those ridiculously yummy waist killers... the 'cheese grits!' The eggs are pretty damn stellar too. Honestly, I don't think they make anything less than kick ass. The only downside about this place is the wait. OMG, you better show up before you're hungry or eat a snack before you come because the line can sometimes be long enough for you to have eaten an entire meal elsewhere. Awesome breakfast, from the customer service, the food, the wait staff, the owner, everyone was awesome. There was a short wait of 10 minutes and the owner personally came and offered everyone a coffee for the wait. There is a lot that can be learned just from that small gesture. Mary Beth our server was wonderful, helped make great choices, and had a great concern for the needs of her customer. My husband enjoyed his Veggie omelette, pancakes and hash browns. I splurged and got the bananas foster french toast, which at the suggestion of Mary Beth, like she said delicious , the orange juice is freshly squeezed which is awesome. Even the gentleman clearing the tables was personable with a great attitude and sense of humor. I like d'Egg. I like it enough that I'll forgive the runny, lumpy grits and slow service I had there this morning. I've done breakfast and lunch there several times now and the food is simple, unpretentious and inexpensive and normally the service is very good. The owner who's usually running the register is super friendly. I love the location and environment. I like to bring my laptop and drink coffee while I'm working. This morning, however, it was insanely busy and they were understaffed and, well, the grits. I actually returned the grits and got hash browns instead. They were fine. D'Egg is definitely the downtown spot to spy local politicians, business people and TV personalities if you're into that sort of thing. One reason locals may give d'Egg some benefit of the doubt is that before d'Egg, downtown Norfolk was kinda desperate for a decent breakfast spot and for cheap eats in general. The ongoing process of revitalizing downtown has meant the opening (and closing) of quite a few high end restaurants, many of which transform into night spots in the later hours. But there aren't and haven't been many holes in the walls, greasy spoons or sandwich joints (there are a couple). Long story short: d'Egg filled a void. read more

Writing some of these reviews has made me realize how much I miss working in Downtown Norfolk because d'Egg was yet another place I frequented when I was around that area. It was in walking distance of where I worked and I loved walking over to pick up breakfast on cool, crisp mornings. They have breakfast and lunch options but I only went to pick up breakfast and bring it back to the office. They do have places to sit, so you have the option of eating inside as well. The staff here is very nice and you can tell they get to know their frequent customers. The place is set up like an old school diner with the kitchen right behind the bar style eating area. read more
