Run, don't walk to this hidden gem. Located on Granby Street in the Riverview area, it's easy to miss. They have black blinds to shield the direct sunlight as it goes down to the west. This gives the appearance of being closed. Parking is limited and located behind the restaurant and the adjacent law office. When making reservations my son was told to watch for the law office. The restaurant seating is relatively small with a large, spacious bar behind a separating wall. We were greeted by a friendly & jovial host who immediately seated us. Our two person table was comfortable with padded seats. My seat was next to a window ledge which was the perfect spot for my purse. The menu options were an absolute "WOW". Once I saw the daily specials, I knew exactly what I would order. The House-made Venison Sausage with White beans, Sea Island peas, kale, persimmons in country ham jus came with two large sausage links and an ample amount of the rest of the dish. It was a delicious mix, definitely enough to have served two. My son's entree was the Tile Fish with squash grocchi, mushrooms & brown butter vinaigrette. He proclaimed it excellent. We began the meal with appetizers. I chose the Grilled Cabbage with garlic yogurt, apples & castelvetranos. My choice was excellent. But when I saw my son's Oyster Stew with potatoes & thyme, I immediately craved it. After the meal we first declined dessert. But I decided just to take a look. What I saw sounded amazing. There was no way I could pass up the Combread Pudding in Toffee sauce with whipped cream & encrusted with candled pecans. Begging my son to share it with me, he promised only to take a bite. When he tasted that wonderful concoction he changed his mind and shared. The Cornbread Pudding is absolutely amazing. The restaurant changes their menu often. The menu items are unique dishes that offer options you won't find elsewhere. There is absolutely nothing I found wrong with LeGrand Kitchen. It was perfection.

I wish I could illustrate the flavor explosion I experienced as I dined here at LeGrand. There wasn't a single item that was not ate, if that tells you enough! What was ordered - Girl Dinner : Assortment of pickled vegetables, ham , cheese, and jelly. Accompanied by toast. This was a perfect start to dinner as it satisfied every sort of craving for a good hearty meal. Butcher Steak : PERFECTLY cooked. I wish I had more to say , but oh my goodness.... the tenderness of the meat with the potato's and oyster mushrooms. A delight all around and would absolutely come back for this exact meal. Also want to say the service team were AMAZING even the ones who did not serve us , yet helped us up the best choice for the night!

this place has been on my list to check out for a while now and i finally got the opportunity to indulge . i will start off with, the restaurant is a small, quaint place. but the vibes are there . i did find parking to be a little difficult, as it's really not much there onsite to park . when we walked in , we were immediately seated . the bar area was pretty packed . since we already knew what we wanted to order, we pretty much placed our orders immediately , and the food came out pretty quick . now, i've heard so many good things about their burger , & i will say ... it did not disappoint. i almost want to say it's an elevated version of a big mac , but ... that's really not doing it justice . i did ask to have the jalapeños on the side and i skipped on the onions , but i really didn't have to add anything additional to my burger . it was cooked to perfection. and i honestly didn't think i would eat the entire thing , but i fooled myself . it's honestly probably one of the top 5 best burgers ive had . i did end up ordering a drink , the smoke show, it wasn't the best drink ive had ... but i finished it. this is definitely a place i would return to check out other items on the menu .

I'll start with our server Jenna, shes amazing the reason I'm giving 3 star. 1 the pork sisig is the first disappointment that I have. It didnt looks like sisig and didnt taste like sisig. Its more of korean bbq bulgogi but instead of korean sauce they put vinegar. I'll give 1 out of 5 2 the pork belly is okay more of fat than meat. 3 of t 3 the oysters, gosh didnt even put lime on the side. Taste is so so. 3 of 5 4 the lamb, the lamb is self is good, soft, tender even the beans have nice flavor. 4of 5 The place is nice and clean. Only problem is parking

This is a pork belly special Le Grand created from locally sourced Twisted Willow Farms paired with fresh yuca fries.

I've always been a fan of the exiting plates that come out of the Le Grand kitchen. This is their most recent beauty, a nice fried pork belly slice paired with fresh yuca fries. Service is always impeccable and a great environment to dine in.

LeGrand's subtle exterior hides a real jewel. At the recommendation of a local, I stumbled upon LeGrand for the burger. The very next day, I was back for the the burger with a side of potatoes au gratin (dauphinoise), oysters Rockefeller, and the key lime pie. From the cocktails to menu, everything exceeded my expectations. Great service, friendly staff, and an eclectic menu featuring a lamb ragu, which I will be back for. Adam, the mixologist, currated an experience that is unlike any other eatery I've experienced in Norfolk.

I absolutely love the decor. We sat at the bar and had some amazing cocktails from the great bartender, they rotate but I had an "old fashioned gin" which was to die for as a gin lover. The food was so good I'll be back when we're on this side of town!

Duck breast with roasted summer squash, crispy polenta, goat cheese, and blackberry demi glace
    Zen X.

For the entree, I had the duck breast with roasted summer squash, crispy polenta, goat cheese, and blackberry demi-glace. For dessert I had cornbread pudding with toffee sauce, whipped cream, and candied pecans. The entree was great except some of the duck fat was chewy, but that's where all the flavor comes from! The dessert was interesting and different. It wasn't like pudding at all, but more like a sweet and soft corncake. Skip the steak and crème brûlée; you can get those anymore. Try the duck and cornbread pudding! They won't disappoint!

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Hampton Roads/VB/Tidewater area. You must go. At our second visit the food, service, and vibes were all immaculate. Their burgers are crave worthy. The portions are perfect and dishes are well seasoned and balanced. They take humble cabbage and turn it into my go-to appetizer. Everything we've tasted is elite, including the house and classic cocktails. The restaurant is small and intimate so reservations are recommended. Get the burger. Get a cocktail. DEF get the cornbread pudding dessert. Hell get anything, it all slaps. I'll be back! (Weekly)

Halibut with rice grits and winter squash, rack of lamb with French lentils and olives

Once again, the Le Grande team never disappoints!! We went in for their Valentine's Day menu and started with an insanely unique beef tartare, with fish sauce, cilantro and mint, crushed peanuts, and prawn crackers. It was awesome! Dinner was halibut and rack of lamb, both of which were so perfectly cooked. The portions are generous without sacrificing any flavor or technique. We wished we had room for their to die for cornbread pudding, but we were stuffed and happy. Probably my favorite spot in Norfolk!!

ABC license in hand brought a full house on Sat pm. Fortunately, they accommodated our party of 4 as a walk-in. Paper plane drink was sneaky good. Oysters, beet salad, and pimento apps were all 5/5, especially getting them fresh. Of course, my wife and I enjoyed burgers while friends opted for Halibut and Steak entrees, both "killer." The potato cake, served as a side with the steak, was mysteriously shaped but had an earthy, smokey flavor; texture was like tater tots. The meal didn't disappoint, neither did the service. Gender neutral restrooms in close proximity to our high top table. Also had a view into the kitchen and the bar. They were both jumping! FYI, oto park in their lot and neighboring law office or school lots. See you all next time!

    bread and butter!

this place surprised me in a multitude of ways. It felt like I was walking in to someone's grand living room and kitchen, and the ambience was elegant, but welcoming at the same time. The food is cooked right in front of you snd there are options for both vegetarians and vegans. This made me very happy because everyone told me they are only known for their burgers, but I got to ordered delicious bread, salad and roasted vegetables all of which came out amazing. Even their dessert was extraordinary. I wish they had more options for non-alcoholic drinks since I don't drink, but that was the only part of the meal that disappointed. Great service and will definitely be going back!

    Cornbread Pudding
    Brian P.

Ever had a burger made from the gods? The burger was born deep from within the recesses of American Mythological Conquest. One which Steve from LeGrand valiantly returned from bearing the fruit of his conquest. Everything on the menu is fantabulous and Norfolk is lucky. Also, the cornbread pudding is straight from cornbread mythology as well.

Because of the lack of street parking, my son chose to take a Lyft on our recent visit. It was a good choice. We were greeted and taken to a comfortable table. Service was prompt and helpful. Our last visit to Codex had been late January during Downtown Norfolk Restaurant Week. But when I ordered my cocktail, telling my server my need for a cocktail straw, I was surprised at the answer. She told me that the bartender Addie remembered me, my cocktail preference and my need for a straw. I looked up and she waved at me. It felt wonderful that I has been remembered. The Vodka Martini was presented in the vintage glass so familiar to me. It was the pattern I inherited from my Mother & Aunt, so popular with the WWII generation. Addie remembered how excited I was when I first saw the glass. The menu was awesome as usual. We started with Oysters, Raw with a Citrus Mignonette. Also from the starter section we chose the yummy House Made Pimento Cheese and Everything Crackers. My entree was the Gnudi with Ramps, Chestnut, Black Pearl Mushrooms, & Asparagus in White Wine Lemon Sauce. My son chose the Tuna. Both were amazing with perfect presentation. We shared the Roasted Cauliflower, which was a culinary masterpiece. When time for the dessert menu came, my son first declined. I like how in the dining area, they put covers over the overhead lights so it isn't super bright. AND THE DRINKS ARE SOOOOOOO GOOD. First time we went, we overheard the waitress say she didn't want to serve us, she was exhausted. Rightfully so, she was the only server. We held nothing against the server, we were peeved with the owner. The woman with the light hair. Took what felt like forever to even get drinks. They were also out of a lot of food... which isn't necessarily a bad thing... but the items I wanted were no longer available so I just ordered the fried green tomatoes. They were fine, they just needed more sauce and a bit more seasoning in the breading! The poor server was just miserable while we were there, and the owner was just kinda walking around telling everyone what needed to be done, not quite helping, more so micro managing. We ended up tipping the poor girl $35. I hope she got to keep it all. Fast forward to this week. We tried it out again. It was a bit warm. We had been Instructed that they had family visiting and if it got too loud to let her know. The noise wasn't the issue at all. When we sat down we saw that it was 76° inside! We wanted to eat though, so we tried to tough it out. There was only one waiter and then another girl helping him serve the food. Again, and I don't know how it happened again, the boy had said to the lady he didn't want to serve us, there was too much going on. She had told him he was going to serve us, strike 1. We ordered all of our food at once to make the poor kid's life a bit easier. We didn't get drinks until about 20 minutes after sitting down. (The pineapple drink bangs btw). And we were literally sitting there DRIPPING sweat. Even the owner had beads of sweat alllll over her face. We ended up asking for our order to go. And my husband ordered his sandwich without Cole slaw. We said that literally a COUPLE of minutes after we ordered. The food magically appeared, and they had US package it all up. And my husband couldn't even tell the owner that he asked for no Cole slaw, but she kept talking over him. And she ended up being the "polite" kind of rude after we asked for our food to go. We weren't angry, we were just hot. But looking back on the bigger picture, it definitely angry. Especially for the young people they have serving. The poor server was so stressed so again, I do not blame the servers. We tipped that bot $25 and again, I hope he gets it ALL. I 100% put the blame on the owners. This place should be a food truck... not a restaurant. The bad reviews didn't make sense to me.... Until they did.

We got the oysters with caviar and it was very fresh and citrusy with the sauce. The flavor dances on your tongue and stays on it. Compared to the apps, the entree was good but did not blow me away. I did enjoy the veggies it came with though. We got the dessert with the coconut and pineapple. It was nutty and not too sweet.

This is an excellent restaurant! The food, the service, the vibe is awesome!! I started with the tuna crudo, which had a drizzle of mint. It was excellent, and the mint wasn't overpowering. I tried some of the mixed greens, tossed perfectly, and the blue cheese and dates were a great accompaniment. For my entree, I had the flounder. It was in a curry broth with peas, which was melded wonderfully with the flakiness of the fish. There were also homemade potato chips atop the fish...perfection!! For dessert, we shared the flourless chocolate cake with coffee ice cream. The cake was not as moist as some other flourless cakes I've had. I also had the violet hymns cocktail...yummy! They have several tables, and I highly recommend making a reservation. It was an excellent dining experience!!
