We loved it! It's easy to miss since it's connected to a laundry. The menu has both lunch and breakfast. I got the chicken tender sandwich. It was excellent. My husband loved the cheeseburger. I recommend getting the homemade fries. They cut the potato eland fry them up to order. Staff was friendly. Dining area is simple but clean. Will eat here again.

It happened to be Restaurant Week, which made us a little nervous, but it ended up being totally fine. The dining room never felt overly crowded, the noise level was comfortable, and having the Restaurant Week prix fixe, drink specials, and regular menu all available gave us plenty of options without feeling overwhelming. One small note: the plastic logo cups served with the water decanter felt a little out of place. They were a bit sharp on the lips and didn't quite match the rest of the dining experience. Minor detail, but noticeable. The drinks, however, were excellent. On our server's recommendation, my husband ordered the Gingerbread Old Fashioned and I had the Salted Caramel Martini. Both were seasonal specials and both were fantastic. When we asked about the scotch eggs, our server explained they're normally a brunch-only item. We were a little disappointed (and may have made a few pouty faces while explaining we'd come specifically for them for his birthday), but we quickly let it go, it obviously wasn't her fault. What we didn't realize was that she went back and told the kitchen manager that it was his birthday and that we'd made the trip just for those scotch eggs. Since the kitchen wasn't slammed, they decided to make them anyway and surprised us with an order. We were honestly floored. My husband was thrilled. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. And the scotch eggs were exactly what he'd been hoping for! They were crispy on the outside with a rich, savory center. For entrées, his Nashville Hot Chicken was juicy with the perfect amount of heat without being overwhelming. My Haystack Burger was stacked and delicious, though the BBQ sauce was strong enough to overshadow the pickled green tomato a bit. The fries were fantastic - crispy, battered, and perfect from first bite to last. Our server checked in at all the right times and kept drinks refilled without us needing to ask. The fact that she went out of her way to do something special during one of the busiest weeks on a restaurant's calendar says a lot about both her and the restaurant. Rustic Spoon is the kind of place that works just as well for a casual date night as it does for a birthday dinner or a night out with friends.

The sausage gravy was very nice, the biscuit was great. The chimichanga was excellent and HUGE!! I liked the crema on top of it, but I really liked their selection of hot sauces, with their house-made "gator sauce" being my favorite. I definitely enjoyed this visit and would definitely return!

Although we sat outside (because we were dining with a dog), we never had to wait too long for the waitress to check on us. Every 5-10 minutes, she dropped by to make sure things were going well and to refill our coffee. Since The Egg Bistro has a HUGE breakfast menu, I'm sure everyone should be able to find something that they will/might enjoy. For my dining pleasure, I tried something new and went with the Bennie & the Grits. This dish piqued my interest because I never heard of grits cakes in the four decades of living on this planet. For about 20 bucks, the dish included three fried grit cakes with ground sausage, grilled shrimp, more sausage, two poached eggs and a side. Although the serving size was HUGE, I was not a bit fan of the dish. Note, I didn't think the dish was prepared badly, I just didn't get the concept of the fried grits (this from a grits lover); however, everything else with the dish was pretty good. If you are a Bloody Mary lover, you might some interesting varieties of Bloody Marys here. Additionally, I really appreciated that The Egg Bistro ranks the Bloody Marys based on spice level. Overall, I definitely would not mind visiting this location during a future trip to Va Beach. The only (very) minor issue that I had was that the outdoor seating is right next to the parking lot so you might experience some exhaust fumes/smoke while eating if you chose to dine outside. Again, this would not have been a (very) minor issue if we were not dining with a dog.

The food arrived pretty quickly. I ordered the veggie lovers omelette without the mushrooms and w/ biscuits and potatoes. Everything tasted fresh and not too greasy. I thought the addition of avocados without the upcharge was nice. Too bad they didn't have marmalade for jelly choices but if that's the only complaint I have, I'd say it's pretty good. I wouldn't mind returning again in the future thanks to the nice service and decent food with good portions and pricing.

The weather was gloomy, but the vibes inside were warm, welcoming, and exactly what you want when you're trying to escape the rain for a bit. It has that charming farm-to-table feel, inviting, and full of good energy. Service was quick and genuinely great, especially for a Sunday. Our server was friendly, attentive, and kept things moving without making us feel rushed, which I always appreciate during brunch hours. Drinks came out fast, food followed shortly after, and everything felt smooth and well paced. The menu is full of options that really lean into fresh, seasonal ingredients. You can tell they care about quality of their food. Lots of comfort classics with elevated twists, plus some lighter options if you're not trying to go full brunch coma mode. I ordered the crab cake Benedict, and wow, absolutely the right choice. The crab cake was flavorful, perfectly crisp on the outside, and packed with real crab (not bready filler). The poached eggs were done just right, and the hollandaise was rich but not overpowering. Everything worked together beautifully, and it felt indulgent without being too heavy. My friend had the duck hash and couldn't stop raving about it! Will definitely return in the nicer weather so I can sit outside. They have a whole outdoor area, trails down to the water and ducks!

We wanted to sit out back but it was a little cool, so we moved onto the porch. It gives an outside feel without being directly in the elements. I had a cup of coffee and the hunting burger that comes with potato salad and fruit. I also added the green salad. I love that everything is so fresh! The fruit is actually an apple slaw that is very unique but also very good! The burger and potato salad were great! This is not the potato salad you might normally think of. It is red potato chunks tossed in a dressing but excellent either way! The green salad was REALLY good but I do have some recommendations.. when the salad comes with a meal, it is listed as "green salad." When ordered alone it is listed as "house side salad" and includes all of the ingredients listed. The salad does contain almond slivers as well as pesto which are both allergens. I think this should be noted under all of the meals that come with green salad. Many people don't even realize how pesto is made, so I would definitely point out it is made with tree nuts. My only other "complaint" would be their straws sit in a plastic container, unwrapped. I noticed when the waitress brought out straws she was touching where you'd sip, an my sister says this has happened every time she's been. On their grounds they have geese and chickens and other birds. There is also a little path that leads to a cute sitting area on the water. I'd love to visit again when it warms up a bit as this restaurant is very relaxing and has a great setting overall!

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

While I wait, I grab a cup of coffee and something to eat. Most of the time it's breakfast, but I've tried a few different things here and the food never disappoints. I've had the Crabby Benedict, the Sand Fiddler Special (eggs, meat, pancakes, toast, coffee), and one time I had a burger with beef, hash browns, eggs, cheese, and onions - loaded up and really good. The food always comes out hot, filling, and full of flavor. Even the pancakes, which at first looked like they might be the frozen kind, turned out to be homemade with little touches that let you know they care. The coffee's solid too - not that bitter Starbucks taste, just smooth and easy to drink. What I really enjoy is the cook in the back. Every time I come in, he's singing along with the music. He's got a nice voice and it sets a good vibe - not too loud, just happy. Having worked in restaurants myself, I know when the staff is enjoying themselves, it makes the whole place better. You can feel it in the food and the atmosphere. The café is clean, with artwork on the walls (for sale), plus bags and t-shirts since this area gets touristy in the summer. The waitresses are always kind and helpful - I even saw one go the extra mile helping a man who was having trouble get his food out to the car. That stuck with me. The guy at the register isn't the most smiley, but he does his job, no complaints. Overall, SandFiddler's is just a good, comfortable spot to eat. Not too loud, friendly people, and good food that fills you up. If you're in the area or don't mind a short drive, it's worth checking out.
