This place has a je ne sais quoi about it. Love love love their food. The environment inside is about family and has an little Italy feel to it. The outside view from the patio area in the back brings you to a whole different world. Seating arrangements are good with wooden chairs, tables and booths. They make really good apple martini hence why, this time, I had no photos and got a little carried away. I had the steak with veggies and mash. I like my steak rare and they cooked it perfectly. My husband safe zoned it and had the chicken parmigiana but wished the pasta was a little bit more al dente. Large portion and family friendly. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Be advised if you never been in the area, coming from route 8, the neighborhood was a little questionable to point that we thought we were going the wrong way. But nope right way indeed. We were so happy with our dinner tonight! I got the carbonara and my boyfriend got the scallops risotto. First off the pasta was awesome the bacon in it wasn't under or over cook. I could have ate boyfriends whole meal because the risotto was cooked perfectly and the scallops were not slimy or chewy, which I often worry about when ordering them. Both cocktails I ordered, the limonada I'm hoping will stay on the summer menu and my night cap drink was an espresso martini that was a glass of fresh breweries espresso and smooth vodka that tasted like they could have distilled it there. The best part about our night was our sweet waitress Keisha, as soon as we walked in and was standing around waiting for our table she offered to put drinks in and luckily enough she was our waitress for the night when we got seated. I have been here many times it's the only half way decent eating establishment near Torrington and I often refer business associated here. Saturday we stopped with a party of 5 after a day long basketball tournament. When we arrived there were a number of open tables including more than 3 large party tables. The hostess said she would check and started to prep for seating us but after a whispered conversation with the manager started ignoring us. While we were waiting the hostesses started bustling along to all the open tables and placed menus at all the large tables. I went to use the restroom and after more than 15 min and several parties being sat (no reservations) the manager approached us and asked if we had a reservation and when I said no he said that they had no room for us. When I asked how long the wait was he literally responded "a very, very long time". So I'm not sure what caused this man to decide that we (an older couple, Mom, 20 something, and a kid in basketball uniform) were not worthy of eating in his "mediocre" "only decent thing in town" establishment but I will never be back. I have eaten in actual fine dining restaurants on many occasions and never been treated like this before. This is not how it works. I will no longer refer any of my business contacts traveling to the area here as a lunch option. read more

The food and atmosphere were very good but what impressed me most was the way we were greeted upon arrival. The owner, shook our hands, welcomed us, and sat us. It was crowded but service was prompt (not accurate initially but it was fixed). The pork chop was outstanding and the waitress warned us it would take 15-20 min to see if we wanted a salad to start. We declined and she brought us over fresh warm rolls. Once we finished out meal we were delivered a complimentary dessert. Excellent. Delicious food especially the Da Capo chips. I've had grilled vegg panini and it's one of my favs. The lobster roll is delicious. Please do us a favor and make it clear this restaurant is in Torrington and NOT in Litchfield. It's more like Da Crapo. Salads are a generous portion with a great selection of veggies and toppings but there is something definitely OFF about the oil used in their cooking and in their salad dressings. Severe cramps about 15 minutes after eating here- I've given this place several attempts to redeem itself but something is not agreeing...literally. Dine in or take-out. Not worth it. There are much better places to choose from in this area, like Cumberland Farms. I want to like you but I can't. Oh, almost forgot..Ordered take out one afternoon and they had sent the completely wrong salad. I called up to see if I could get the right one and that I would pick it up and the manager or owner insisted that I would enjoy it. I said that I did not want it and he never offered me to come and get the correct one. This same situation happened to my co-worker when they had burnt the salmon that was on her salad and they insisted it was fine and never tried to rectify the situation with replacing it. Da capos should be called de crapos. This place was horrible, not sure what people were thinking when they gave it decent reviews. We ordered 5 different items off the menu. The da capo chips were ok. Then there was the calimari, worst i ever had. I had the squash ravioli, wouldn't wish that on my enemy. The risotto was bland and just not good. The haddock was real bad also with gnocci under it that I literally spit out into a napkin. The server looked like she was straight out of an episode of hoarders. But since it has changed hands all our favorite things are different, the Caesar salad is much too fishy and the calamari, very disappointing why can't they just change names when a business is no longer owned by the same people? It's clear the kitchen doesn't care about the food they put out and our server was so money hungry she was more concerned about getting us out for the next table. The host had the audacity to tell us that she was sitting us at a table because a server needed to be sat after we requested a different area. What is that? Manager is a pompous, arrogant a-hole to customers and his staff. This place has fallen far. It's landed on its head and doesn't seem like the owners care too much. It's a shame. A wasted location. The food is ok to good, but they have over priced themselves a lot. the service is also ok, but it is NOT worth what they are charging. $8.00 for a plate of greens and $18.00 for pasta and sauce.....it just isn't worth it. The restaurant is very noisey, and the wait staff is very pushy. The entrée is served while you are in the middle of salad, salad was served in the middle of appetizers. The waitress ignored my request to slow it down and she blamed the kitchen. The wine is severely over priced, and they charge $2.00 for every soda(that is ridiculous!!!!!, if not desperate) There are too many other fine Italian resturants in the area that offer great selection of menu items, excellent wine lists and better service for a far better price. I'm usually a fan of their restaurant and their food is great. However, the restaurant is always loud and always packed. Thus, I normally pick things up to go home and eat it, but nine times out of ten they're too busy with the customers in the building to go to the kitchen to just get my order to hand to me. I end up with long wait times, even though I wait at least ten minutes past the time I'm given on the phone to even leave the house. Last night took the cake, though. Some gentleman walked in (after I'd already been waiting about ten minutes) and it was as if me standing there was suddenly of no consequence. Obviously this guy was a DaCapo VIP, but I was summarily ignored while they had a chat and fell all over themselves to make this guy comfortable and happy. Hey -- it's great treatment if you're said VIP, but if you're just waiting for someone to walk back to the kitchen to get your carry out order so you can go home and eat it, it's sort of ridiculous. All in all I waited 15 minutes for an order that was already finished, just waiting for someone to get the time to deal with it. Not impressed, may not come back. read more

Can't rave enough about this restaurant. If you're in the mood for an authentic Italian meal--waste no more time looking! This is your place!! The atmosphere is wonderful: relaxing, Mediterranean... Frank Sinatra playing in the background... The food is excellent!! Every time I eat here I enjoy my dish more and more! First time I went I had penne al vodka! Delicious! Next time I went I had the chicken parm which is the BEST. And the last time I went was probably my favorite meal yet... the lobster roll. It was unreal. No complains. Da Capo's has been great every time I've been there for dinner. The menu prices look high, but on a per-portion cost (I always have leftovers), it's not bad at all. We usually get an appetizer and a gourmet pizza, and have yet to be disappointed with any of our choices. The Da Capo chips are particularly outstanding. I really appreciate that although Da Capo's is a restaurant that could easily coast on being a family or group place serving some basic pizza, pasta, and entrees, the menu is filled with dishes that have an extra bit of sophistication and creativity to elevate them way above typical pizzeria/red sauce place fare. Their wine list is also above par -- although abbreviated, the choices go beyond (and don't include) Cavit and Santa Margherita. On one visit, the list included a Nebbolio by the glass. The servers here hustle, and the owner/manager is always out on the floor checking on tables, saying hello, and making sure everything is running smoothly. The waitstaff is efficient and attentive, but never rushed. Service gets five stars, definitely. I rated Da Capo four stars instead of five because of the noise level during peak times. I should note, however, that sitting under the section of the restaurant that has a lower ceiling really dampens the sound from the larger tables -- so that's good. We were seated with a wonderful view of the kitchen and men's room. :( although other tables were available. The food was great. We ordered the family size salad for the six of us. It was amazing. Our party of six collectively had a very disappointing dining experience at Da Capo. Three meals were decent, one mediocre and the two linguini with clams were a pathetic excuse for a meal. The clams were barely warm and there might have been a dozen strands of linguini in each plate (if that). When our concern was expressed with an employee, we received a blank stare. Our request for more dinner rolls was ignored. Apparently our waitress's shift ended during our meal and we had to seek out an employee to get our check. When she brought the check, we received 4 complimentary desserts, which we thought was a thoughtful gesture to help make up for our negative experience. Da Capo is one of our favorite restaurants and we travel an hour to go there; it's very worth it. The pizza is the best I've ever had, thin crust with a sweeter sauce (I ask for extra for dipping) and generous portions of fresh mozzarella cooked to perfect crispiness. The salads are full of big flavor with garden fresh veggies and flavorful dressings. The meals are incredible as well, I highly recommend the haddock with homemade gnocchi. You must not leave before trying the tiramisu or the chocolate mousse pie. Melt in your mouth delicious!! Knowing this is my favorite restaurant, my family threw me my baby shower there. I was blown away by the attention to detail and how the well the waitstaff treated my friends and family. Everyone was raving about the food and were provided a generous variety of appetizers, pizza, salads, and entrees served family style. They managed to make the shower feel private even through there was no separate room. Most of my guests commented that they would be coming back to dine because they were so impressed with the entire experience. Called to make a "reservation" for 3 at 6:15. By 7:10, we still didn't have a table and the hostess suddenly claimed she didn't have a reservation for us (after she checked us in an hour earlier on the list of reservations). People who came well after us with later reservations were given preference. More than 20 guests were kept waiting in the entryway, most of whom also had "reservations". It took the staff nearly 20 minutes to even offer a chair to an elderly woman struggling to stand and wait with her cane. We learned that calling to make a reservation here only means that they will seat you before someone who didn't call. After many conversations with staff trying to get a table, and waiting over an hour, we gave up and went to our show without dinner. I will never be back, and you shouldn't bother. I like it there. I have to agree it is a little expensive. It's gets crowed all the time. People were standing in line outside to get a table. The food there is pretty good. But since it gets so busy we had to wait a little longer for our food. I notice only one waitress serving a lot of people. Maybe they should get more waiters and waitresses? I notice there was no AC. It was really hot in there. I would go there but better make a reservations even if its 4 or 5 people. If you don't make a reservations you may have to stand in that long line. read more

We decided to try this place last night, Friday July,19. When we arrived the parking lot was almost full. We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. While waiting we watched the pizza chef do his thing. He stretched that pizza dough out into a perfect round. in less than a minute. Such an art. We started with the bruschetta which consisted of goat cheese with a caponata. We never had is this way and both thought it was very good. I had the bolognese sauce over whole wheat pasta, ya it was hot for a summer night but it was very good. My partner had the pappardelle Toscana, mushrooms, cream,grana padano cheese and I'm sure something else in there. He enjoyed that also. The place was jammin' and the staff working hard. I've been to Da Capo's in Litchfield 5 times and I will tell you it is consistently good. The food is definitely a 4 out of 5 stars (I save 5 stars for the best of the best), the service is very good, the atmosphere is fun and the people and owner really want to make your dining experience first rate. Their Pizza is one of the best in the area and the entree's and appetizers are all first rate. Portion sizes won't leave you hungry either. Last night we had their house made ravioli and a the salmon special. All three dishes were very, very good. The beet salad as a starter was good and was shared among the three of us. I work in food service. I know a good restaurant when I see one. What makes this place stand out is the owner. He is almost always there greeting his guests. He really cares about the experience his guests have and takes great pains to ensure. The pizza is wonderful! Great cheese, better crust. However, some of the other ingredients used do not seem to match up to the high standards that he sets for his restaurant. For example, the Strip steak. I found it to be well cooked (perfect med-rare!), but the meat itself was sub-par for that price. If they were to get higher quality stuff, this place would be the best restaurant around. I love it here. I am a long time vegetarian, and like that I can always count on one of their many giant salads to fill me up. Always - always - fresh, fresh produce used for their ingredients, and you can tell they never use any shortcuts in anything they make. Guaranteed good night out any time I go.
