I never did a review for this place? Really? Today was my second time eating at Da Edoardo, for my Aunt Millie's birthday. It's very unlikely that she'll read this unless I happen to show the review to her on my phone...but when that happens, Happy Birthday Auntie! We had a party of 15 people. For appetizers, we had: Jumbo Grilled Shrimp: God-tier. Rosemary Fries: Crispy and flavorful, and the rosemary gives it a nice touch that you won't find in other fries. Lemoncello Chicken Wings: One of maybe two wings in the world that can give Redwood's wings a run for their money. If only they weren't so small. On the plus side, the name makes you picture a giant lemon being made into a cello. Calamari: tasty, but the sauce renders the batter quite spongy. I'm no stranger to the batter for squid being softer than actual air, but I'm really hoping to someday find some with crispy batter. I promised myself I wouldn't fill up on appetizers. Like every other lie I tell myself to keep the demons at bay, it didn't last. So long story short, the appetizers were good. Still, I did have some room for my entree, a Potato Crusted Halibut with mash and green beans. The green beans had a delicious seasoning to them. The mashed potatoes were okay, although I can't say that they're better than Redwood's white cheddar mash. It's good but it's just kinda there... The potato crusted halibut was also very good. Even after all the seafood I've eaten, I still largely classify fish as "salmon" and "everything that's not salmon," but the halibut was still quite delicious. So far, I can say I prefer it over red snapper, cod, and most definitely swordfish. Not a huge fan of swordfish, except maybe as an improvised weapon like in the cartoons. Wanted to take my Dad out for his birthday and suggested Da Edoardo's as I know my parents love it and my husband and I have never been. We're not typically huge on italian, but we're so glad we gave this place a go. Really nice ambiance with pretty views even in the winter. Delicious, fresh food, and prompt, courteous service. I had the Paglia e Fieno which had a nice little kick to it. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. I find pasta can get heavy quickly but this was just right. My husband and SIL said their baked potatoes were a tad undercooked, but otherwise everyone thoroughly enjoyed their entrees. We recently moved to Grosse Pointe and are now looking forward to trying out our neighborhood DE location for our next date night given how good our experience was here. read more

My husband and I purchased a gift certificate through WMEN Better Deals. We traveled 1 1/2 hrs to visit Da Edoardo. We were not disappointed. Our server Ericka was spectacular! We were seated by the window overlooking the river, and the view was very nice. Our drinks (Italian Stallion), the fresh bread and caesar salads were brought to our table in a very timely manner. My husband enjoyed the Pettodi Pallo Marsala, and I had the Salmon with lobster sauce. Both meals were excellent! We finished our meal sharing a cheesecake with strawberry sauce. I planned & had a private event here in their private party room and it was perfect! Beautiful intimate space for 35 max with wall windows and pretty view. I called to ask about the room availability and ever since then it was smooth sailing! They let and helped me pick a select menu for my party and were so accommodating with what I wanted to do. They set out appetizers to start, ordered dinner and the yummy food came out not long after. The staff was exceptional during the event and everyone loved the food. Very Disappointed in our first experience there. We were expecting a great dinner. Our service was very good and our waitress was very nice. But the food was mediocre best. We started with prosciutto bread. I understand that prosciutto is salt cured but this was beyond salty. Even if you took the meat off it tasted as if an entire salt shaker had been sprinkled on the bread. It was not edible. Our salad was probably the best part of the whole dinner. Although it was very small and plain just some different lettuce with a few shavings of carrots on it. Not what I would expect for an upscale restaurant. The dressing was delicious. My wife had the halibut. It looked delicious but was very overcooked and dry. I had the pork chop. Again looked great but had very little flavor and a lot of fat on it. We both got green beans with our meal. It was almost as if they were never cooked just warmed up a little and put on our plates. We got three small potato wedges with our dinner. GLUTEN FREE YALL! There really should be more menu options for that. My veal was hard and chewy, and over all it just wasn't like it used to be. The good: great atmosphere, beautiful restaurant on multiple levels offering great privacy. Beautiful lighting and decor, clean, new looking, staff was very friendly. Their bread is great and the soup I had (Minestrone) was tasty, but a very different type of Minestrone with a tick, creamy texture. The bad: my entree Fettucinne Bolognese (comes without the meatballs; I asked to add them). I thought it looked nice but the taste lacked. Very creamy sauce, not much meat in it, no seasoning, looked like a red pepper base sauce more than a bolognese. My immediate thought was "good thing I asked for meatballs", followed shortly by disappointment. I would bet those meatballs come in a package, no way they are made in house fresh. Olive Garden meatballs take these meatballs to school! My date ordered the lasagna and took one bite out of it only. I had a taste as well and it was absolutely disgusting. We left without eating our entrees, the waiter was very nice and offered to bring something different, even took the lasagna off the bill. We didn't want to try anything else and left. Awful experience. We went for Valentine's Day and my food was way over cooked (I ordered medium rare) so my wife and I got to eat separate. (This was the only time in my life I had sent food back for being cooked improperly). When the bill came we were shocked we were charged with a $115 dollar bottle of wine instead of the $40 bottle of wine we ordered. We were charged for 2 deserts instead of the 1 we ordered. And $10 for salad dressing (which we were not told was an up charge). The dessert was corrected but we were left stuck with the $115 bottle of wine because we didn't examine the bottle when it was presented. (Somehow when we asked for a glass of the same wine after we finished the bottle we were served the correct wine, so obviously they knew which wine we originally ordered). This place seems to just want to take advantage of people so be aware. The manager is extremely arrogant with poor customer service skills. We will not return. read more

Beautiful restaurant with a nice view. I went there for an early dinner with my fiancé . Got there about 530 on a Friday and sat at a high top table in the bar. I think because they were not busy yet the service was actually too good. We were checked on every three minutes by three different people. We appreciated it but kept getting interrupted, it was overkill . The bread came out and the dipping oil was drowned in Parmesan which became a theme through the dinner. We ordered the Eggplant stack which was a Beautiful presentation (took a photo), but sadly no flavor whatsoever in the eggplant , the tomato or the mozzarella, the best part was the small piece of basil...huge disappointment for so pretty. My fiancé ordered a Veal Chop, he wanted to upgrade to a wedge salad but they wouldn't allow, it was full price for a wedge and it had 2 full cups of bacon, (overkill for a garnish.) The entree was ok, he chose a side of mashed potatoes and we giggled a bit when the asparagus came out on its own plate, with literally four thin stalks, they must have been low. My side salad was drowned in Parmesan , I tried the house dressing which was good , but again , made with heavy Parmesan. I ordered an Evie's rocket pizza, lacked flavor. All I could taste was overwhelming lemon juice from the arugula AND once again.... yes, smothered in Parmesan . Not a great experience for the money. Overall, Really nice pretty atmosphere in a great location but food was just not good for the Price. Let's start on a positive - the food deserves a 4 to 5-star rating, as does the ambiance. The prices are appropriately set for that, but here is why I have to give this upscale restaurant a 3-star rating: * The prices on the website are outdated. If you look at the menu online, add another dollar or so per item. * I ordered a Negroni (not on the menu) and the bartender/waiter had no idea what it was. I would have never known, had another waiter not chased our waiter back to the bar, advising him quite loudly to "google" it. Embarrassing. In the end we were told the restaurant doesn't carry the ingredients for the drink, which is a pity, but it happens. * My wife's Dirty Martini was served on the rocks. Interesting. * There is a fee for using your credit card. It's posted, but really? Add another 3% or so to your bill to cover the cost. Again, I love the food, but the items above are not classy and detract from the experience. read more
