Regardless of the price of the food, we were extremely disappointed. The fact that we could have had better fare at Olive Garden (no offense, OG) for half the price was just the icing on the cake. The only good things were the bread (how can one screw that up) and the house salad (again, it's primarily lettuce - not difficult to do). The lasagna was beyond blah - you'd get tastier results with a frozen meal from the grocery store, and the perch was plain. I dined here this past Thursday and while I must admit my entree was delicious, the service was unsatisfactory. We were a party of 8 and had been assigned 2 servers. Our head server was very short with us when taking our order. She lacked patience, attention to detail and didn't appear knowledgeable about the menu or the entrees very much. My friend is vegan and was trying to decipher what she could order and the server was anxious and impatient with her questions. She brought her a salad with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top as well as was cheese sprinkled on top of the carrots. Our entrees were not all served at the same time. Overall the service was extremely slow. I thought it may have been because we were a party of 8, but none of us were overly demanding, we had 2 servers (both of which weren't very attentive at all) and most importantly, the couple sitting across the aisle from us gave a server passing by a piece of their minds after waiting a half hour for bread and beverages. Perhaps the lapse in serving time was due to our head server's nicotine habit, as I spotted her smoking out back when making a trip to my car. The food was delicious. I had the petto di pollo Marsala (Chicken Marsala) with a side of spinach. I asked the server what the entree would be served with before ordering the spinach, which was a la carte. She told me it comes with a side of pasta and my choice of house salad or soup. I selected the salad and ordered the side of spinach. When my entree arrived, I didn't receive the pasta, but I did receive carrots. Had I known the entree came with carrots, I wouldn't have ordered the spinach!!! Da Edouardo was dead to us 3 years ago when the waitress tried to sell us a second bottle of wine without reviewing the vintage (didn't match what we'd already had), they didn't offer any adjustment to the price, and general service was meh. The second wine was nowhere near as good as the first. My family recently tried again and the staff was indifferent, the "margarita pizza" was sauce, cheese and dried basil flakes, and the overall experience was significantly beneath what the price tag and ambience deserves. read more

The woman who answered the phone cut me off, passed the phone to another employee saying "This lady doesn't know how to pronounce Italian." Forgive me, I took French. When I walked in the restaurant, I was greeted with a pretension that I had never experience in my life (I had been to the Whitney, the Lark-when it was open, Coach Insignia-when it was open, we're members of the DAC, etc). I was stared down from head to toe by the woman at the door. Thank God I was wearing my Louis Vuitton bag and Chanel flats! I may have not have been admitted (I mean this facetiously)! This place did not strike me as having clientele important enough for that type of reception. I ate at Da Edoardo for the first time for (what I hoped would be) a special NYE dinner with my boyfriend. We have typically struggled to get a decent reservation for dinner on New Years, so I made a reservation ahead of time and requested a booth. On arrival, the hostess couldn't find our reservation, but said there was a spot for us.. and promptly sat us in a booth in the bar behind the service area. The restaurant was not particularly busy, so I wasn't thrilled to be in the bar, but since I'd requested a booth, I was happy we'd at least ended up in one. This was the start of a very disappointing night. I looked at the menu and, to my surprise, there was a special NYE menu, which essentially comprised of a smaller collection of items than I'd seen on the website and overall was $5-15 more for the same entrees. When I called to make a reservation, the fact that there was a special menu or that the prices were changed should have been disclosed. I wondered if we'd get a free glass of champagne (it being New Years and all), and perhaps that was the reason for the uptick in price, but this did not materialize. But not to worry - we'd planned for a fancy dinner out and were fine to pay a little more for it. Our waitress was nice and brought our drinks in a timely manner. However, throughout the entire evening, we stared at the back of the bar and grey plastic dishwashing trays full of clean glasses that were brought out periodically by the staff. Wait staff congregated in this area and gossiped about each other and cursed audibly. I usually would not be fazed by this, but at a supposedly "upscale" Italian restaurant, where an entree is $40+, there needs to be a higher standard for the behavior of the staff in dining areas. We ordered the escargot, veal saltimbocca, cannelloni Da Edoardo, and tiramisu. The bread that came for the table was simple but quite good. My favorite part of the meal was unfortunately the salad that came with my dinner. The escargot was fine, overall quite bland, but acceptable. The garlic bread that came with it was delicious. My boyfriend's minestrone tasted like it came from a can. Both of our entrees came to the table and were not hot; they were lukewarm at best. The veal saltimbocca would have probably been good had it not been smothered in a Marsala mushroom sauce; the prosciutto and veal flavors were completely lost in the sauce, which covered the entire plate. The veal portion was generous, but I've never eaten a saltimbocca prepared in this way. My cannelloni was disappointing; overall the dish was not appealing and it had a flavor to it that frankly tasted like chef boyardee. For a $30+ pasta dish, this should not be the case. The tiramisu was good, but nothing to write home about. I'm not sure what makes this restaurant so "iconic" in Grosse Pointe. I had been looking for an opportunity to go out for a fancy, expensive evening, and when NYE was around the corner, I was excited to try Da Edoardo. The price of this dinner was astronomical compared with the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere. I've spent less at Capital Grille with a far superior experience in every category. I hate to be so disparaging about a local restaurant, but I would strongly encourage anyone to try Garrido's or Salvatorre before considering spending at least double the money at this place. Then when we were waiting for her to return and pick up our signed slip with a nice cash tip she made sure to share with us that our table had a reservation at 7 so they will need leave the table. Very surprised by the rating before I started this review. Perhaps it's influenced by dated opinions because my experience was great. The ambiance was nice for a random weekday. The servers checked on us multiple times and were both genuine and friendly. The food was great. Appetizers including calamari, veal, bruschetta all good. The entrees of steak and pasta were good and the dessert was delicious (and larger than expected). I would definitely go again and have no complaints. read more

We had attempted an early dinner on the eve of New Year's Eve, December 30. While several other restaurants had a 1.5 hour wait at 6 pm, we found Da Edouardo able to accommodate. They seated us in a lovely corner booth next to the fireplace. It was in the single digits outside, so it was a wonderful surprise. It wasn't too crowded so they could have seated us anywhere, although with the vintage leather and wood decor, it would be hard to find a bad seat in the house. We had delicious veal and salmon entrees and the salad that came with it was really quite exceptional; the salad dressing should be bottled and sold if it isn't already. Cocktails were delicious and service was exceptional. While not the cheapest restaurant in town, it is worth the price of admission and you ultimately get what you pay for. Forego your trendy and usual haunts for this one if you want a taste of old school fine dining. read more

This place has gone WAY down. The food is still decent (however not as good as it used to be) but the service and new atmosphere are going to be the death of this restaurant. There were 6 diners in the whole place, 4 in my party, and they had horrible music blasting aloud, not even Italian music. The elderly people couldn't hear each other. I asked several times to have the music reduced but the manager said this is how they wanted it. After a final plea, and threat to leave, they did reduce the volume but said as soon as more diners arrive they would be turning it right back up. Other diners did arrive, all elderly and the music went right back up. Luckily that was when our bill came so we could leave, without ordering dessert or coffee. The service was very poor. The waitress was nice but non-existent. Every time she dropped something off she bolted before we could ask her for anything else. There were plenty of other servers standing around, but non of them did anything. I'm afraid it seems this institution is going to fade away under poor management like many of it's old competitors have. read more

Really beautiful old-school Italian restaurant. We made reservations here for a Saturday night and ended up deciding to have a drink at the bar to wait for a patio table to open instead because of lovely spring weather. The patio was really pretty with twinkly lights, topiary and a big brick fireplace/chimney. My date had the Cannelloni Verdi Di Ricotta and was very happy with that and the Bruschetta appetizer. He ordered minestrone soup and didn't care for that as much. I asked for vegetarian options and they made me a pasta dish with a spicy marinara sauce and whatever vegetables I would like (I went for spinach and mushrooms) and it was pretty good. Something like that is closer to what I can make at home so I'd probably order order the Cannelloni dish my date liked next time, or try something else. We also had lava cake for dessert, definitely large enough to share. Overall, the atmosphere really makes this place for me. I read the complaints about the service and can attest that we had great service from start to finish, including the bartender who made great conversation while we waited for our patio table, and made sure to check back in on us during our meal just to see how it was. Our server was great as well. I'm wondering if some of the reviews for bad service are people who are not used to wanting to take their time over a long meal - I wouldn't say the service was slow because she made sure to check in with us a lot but let us take our time lingering over food and drinks. We went last Friday (April 1) for my birthday and the food was good but service was absolutely terrible. I had to ask two times to refill my water, we ask for a second order of drink, never received them. Waitress even said they would be on the house but after waiting 25 minutes for her to come back to table, we just wanted to leave. My fiancé told her it was my birthday and asked if she could being out a dessert with a candle and either forgot or just didn't care. Worst experience of service in my life so disappointed. For the price this restaurant needs to step it up. The service is very slow and completely inattentive. I was there on a Monday and it was not busy. Our waiter appeared to have no training at all. We had to flag him down to order dinner. Drinks took forever and we had get his attention to reorder. I had to get my own side plates ask for glasses to be cleared etc. When our food did arrive mine you could tell that the pasta dishes had been sitting under heat lights because of the film that had formed. The food tasted good I will give them that but they need to train the wait staff that the job isn't just putting food on the table. I'll try other places before going back. read more

Yikes! I'll start at the beginning... I made a reservation for 6pm my party of 2 was there on time...the restaurant was pretty empty but we were told our table wasn't ready and if we waited at the bar the hostess would come get us. So we sat at the bar...and we sat at the bar. I think the hostess completely forgot about us all though I made eye contact so by 6:30 we decided to give up on the table and eat at the bar. While the bar tender was nice the experience was terrible. We place our orders; I ordered calamari for the table (she upgraded us to the spicy one or so we thought), then the lobster ravioli with NO blue cheese on my salad. My husband ordered the veal Parmesan... the salads came out mine was covered in blue cheese she was running around so I didn't say anything. Everyone around us had bread we did not. Then as we waited for our entrees my husband inquired about the calamari, she didn't put it in the system. So we said don't worry about it. Then she comes with two entrees she placed a chicken dish in front of me (then realized it was wrong) and placed veal saltimboca in front of my husband and left to get my order. It was obviously not veal parm so when she came back we said something and she took the dish away...it comes back the same dish but now with out the ham and covered in marinara and Parmesan cheese...wtf. At that point we gave up on trying. The waitress apologized profusely but nothing was done to correct the mistakes. Our bill was also incorrect. The food was outrageously expensive. We were very disappointed as we go to Cafe Nini and have had positive experiences so I'm shocked at the lack of quality service at this place and the quality of food. read more

The restaurant refused to accept the coupon, even though none of the fine print stated that it cannot be used for any special holidays. Additionally, I ordered a 20 ounce ribeye steak $47. Where do I begin? Let's start at the entrance, where the hostess makes it seem as though you're crashing her only son's wedding. Don't want to sit near the door? You'll pay for it with a barrage of dirty looks and a snub or two, before being seated far in the back of the restaurant. Thank the lord we only went there because we had a gift certificate, otherwise this post would be far longer than it's going to be. We still had to pay out because our $125 gift certificate didn't cover the 4 drinks, creamy calamari, creamy Caesar ($5 surcharge for the parm and cream above and beyond the house salad), and creamy pasta dishes. Who knew the spaghetti bolognese was going to be creamy?! Needless to say, the creme brûlée was not among our first choices for dessert. My wife said her lethargy was due to butter running through her veins. We ordered veal for the main and paid $40 (creamy Caesar included) with 2 potatoes, some buttery green beans, cream sauce, and mushrooms marinated in....you guessed it! BUTTER! Now, I know that butter is flavor and I'm no stranger to great food that utilizes the magic of butter, but you'd be better off staying at home with some boxed wine, (almost) complete darkness, and a stick of Land O'Lakes butter. I usually only write positive food reviews because I know the proprietors put in a lot of hard work and risk a lot to make a business run. But when you're made to feel like you shouldn't be there, and then get served food that wouldn't pass muster at your local Cracker Barrel, and then get a bill that would rival something from a nice NY or Chicago restaurant, well then the joke's on you! Steer clear of this place if you value your cash and/or your stomach, lest you have a half pound of butter in it...and with half the cash. read more

We ordered food on New Years Eve as a take out. We we're told there was a limited menu which did not include any of the items we wanted. We settled on the fettuccine Alfredo, cheese cannelloni and calamari arbiatta. When we picked it up the price were significantly higher than the prices on the online menu. And the food was mediocre at best. The Alfredo was bland and generic, the $35 cannelloni was 2 tiny rolls with a minute amount of sauce and the calamari which is normally good was bland and disgusting! He only good thing was the salad and the house dressing. We paid almost $90 for a bland and terrible meal. We would have been better off ordering pizza. Da Eduardo used to be good quality for a reasonable higher price meal. I will not be going back in. I refuse to pay for overpriced food when I can make it better at home out of a box. read more

My husband and I ate here for our anniversary dinner. It was our first time. We had a Restaurant.com gift certificate. That was the main reason we decided to eat here, it would have been a little too expensive without a gift certificate. I made a reservation on the phone. Usually at nice restaurants they ask you when calling if there is a special occasion, but they did not. The waiter didn't ask either. It really wasn't a big deal, just odd. Anyway, the restaurant is very nice looking. The interior was very nicely decorated, and the lighting wasn't too bright. Nice and dim. We were seated in a nice booth that was sort of private. We ordered pizza for an appetizer, which was pretty good. Next was the minestrone, which came with our meals. It was pretty good, and I'm not the biggest minestrone fan. My husband ordered lamb shank with mushroom risotto, he liked it enough. I don't think it was his favorite, but he ate the whole plate. I ordered the lobster ravioli. It was DELICIOUS!! That was probably the best lobster ravioli I've ever had. I'm still dreaming of it today. Our waiter was nice, but seemed a little rushed. I don't know if they were understaffed, or if maybe they had a large party coming in. A little slow with the drink refills, but we did eventually get them. I would like to come back.
