To everyone that has missed Da Kitchen, they're back! Find them at their new pop up spot at Piko Cafe. They open up at night from 4-8, Tuesday-Saturday. A more condensed menu, featuring their most popular items. We called in our order & was told it would be just 15 minutes. Ordered the loco moco, katsu cutlet, & korean chicken. It was ready by the time we got there & there was quite a few people in line, so calling in your order might be a good idea. The katsu cutlet serving was very generous, nice & crisp with lots of gravy. Korean chicken serving wasn't as much but was very tasty with sauce on the side. Loco moco was very flavorful, lots of gravy & patty cooked perfectly. All plates were serve with rice & mac salad. We had leftovers enough for the next day. Portions weren't the same across the board though. The Korean chicken was more expensive then the cutlet, yet we got way more cutlet. Pricing did seem kinda high as it was $50 for 3 plates. Out of all the places in Maui, I was looking forward to this place the most for Hawaiian food. Unfortunately, it didn't meet up to my expectations. We got the hawaiian plate for about $30. Quite honestly, the kalua pork tasted like the standard kalua pork from everywhere else and a bit salty. As much as I love Lau laus, the butterfish was fishy and the pork was not tender, and the portion was on the smaller side. Someone had recommend the deep fried mushibi so I wanted to try. It is basically one large piece os mushibi deep fried and it is exactly what it sounds like, fatty and oily. It is not a flavor I would eat again but it is definitely very interesting crunchy texture. The rice was not over or under cooked and overall it was pretty good for what it is. Average Expensive Food, Terrible Service I had to wait nearly one hour for a table. There is no mentioning the difference between inside or outside tables. Outside tables have no service and in to go box. And inside tables have a waitlist. I joined waitlist without knowing the option of being outside. The women never even mentioned the option of being outside in the first place. We just waited and waited and saw others coming and got foods before us. We were so hungry with kid. I had to go and check again to understand this situation and decided to order for outside table, again without knowing it is without service and in to go box. It is so windy outside the utensil and napkin (disposable) fly over. When I saw empty tables with no one on the waitlist, I asked to come back inside but simple answer is no :)) Not sure where tip went! :)) The portion is way too big and expensive for a very average quality compared to other similar restaurants in the area. This was one of my favorite places to eat at during my time at Maui. We had trouble finding this place when we first landed at Maui. It was late at night and we were not able to find this place. After some research the following day we realized that it was at Piko Cafe. The first time I came here I ordered the mixed plate because it had fried fish, teriyaki chicken and beef, and chicken katsu. To my surprise everything in the plate was delicious. The teriyaki sauce was sweet and flavorful. The fish and chicken katsu was crispy on the outside. The fish was good with the tartar sauce and the chicken katsu was good with the barbecue sauce. The Mac salad was also really good. Before I left Maui I came back here a second time to try other Yelp favorites. This time I ordered the katsu cutlet and Korean chicken. The pork katsu needs more flavor/sauce. The Sauce was very mild. You can not really taste it with the katsu. There was also a lot of rice. There was rice under the katsu and another side of rice. (If I knew it already came with rice I would have sub the side rice for more Mac salad). The Korean chicken was really good. It was so crispy and full of flavors. read more

Food was great proportion and very scrumptious. The service ok for a take out. Price was more than expected but it did feed a party of 5. Looks like the dining area is small and there was a lot of waiting families outside. With that being said, plan for long wait or order ahead for take out. We saw the reviews and had to try it so we ordered dinner here on a Tuesday right before 7 pm. The lady taking our order over the phone was very friendly and helpful. We've been to places where the person taking our order seemed annoyed at us, so it was really nice to feel how friendly she was. I asked what the Hawaiian plate was, and she said it came with lau lau, kalua pork, lumpia and salmon. We ordered this and the mixed plate, which came with fried fish, chicken katsu, barbecue chicken and beef. Both plates came with Mac salad and rice. The mixed plate was good and had a lot of food for $17. The fish tasted a little fishy to me, but other than that the plate was good. Their Mac salad is a little plain, but I really liked the side salad and dressing. We also got a dumpling, which was pretty standard. I was disappointed with the Hawaiian plate ($24). It only had the Kalua pork and lau lau pork. There was no salmon and no lumpia. I'm not sure if they just forgot, or if I was misinformed when I asked what was included, but it wasn't very busy when we went so I don't know what went wrong. The kalua pork was really moist and flavorful, and was my favorite part of this meal. The lau lau was okay. I haven't had this dish before, but the pork was pretty juicy. It had a lot of fat though. Overall, I don't think this plate is worth the price, unless it really does come with salmon and lumpia. Not sure that if I would come here again, but if I do it would be to try the deep fried spam musubi and Kalbi ribs. read more

Service was horrendous. No body there knew what was going on. First, I called to order take out (5times), answered and then put on hold for 15 mins (twice) other 3 x's it was just a busy signal or nobody answered. So we decide to just go in and order. Wasn't that busy when we got there and We ordered and they said it was gonna be 20 minutes. But while waiting , things just seemed to get worse and worse. They started giving food to tables in the wrong order and other tables started getting upset. They skipped some of us who ordered first to give later orders first(maybe dishes they have prepped ahead?) Either way the staff seemed pretty incompetent. Servers taking food to wrong tables,staff taking orders seemed confused , kitchen kept making orders out of order. After the 20mins we checked and they said that they're just waiting for 1 more dish. Well ours and others ended up taking 45 mins so the dishes that were already done and packed just sat there for 25 mins. All while the tables that came in 20mjns after me got their food first and they ordered the same things I did . So with a lack of communication and organization and what seemed like having no staff with any leadership qualities. This place is falsely advertised in yelp and there is no way they deserve 5 stars . The food was good but ultimately it was not hot anymore once we got home and our fried items was no longer crispy. The owner of this place needs to reevaluate its staff. Have a quality manager and better train staff. read more

We're back on Maui and our first stop for plate lunch was Da Kitchen in Kihei. It looks like their takeover of the old Piko Cafe location is complete and there are lots of decorations and a new protocol for ordering: put your name down and wait outside for a table. The wait was about 20 minutes for lunch which was not bad for a party of 7. The food was excellent as always and they had a few specials. The fish n chips was really good with a special and extra crispy panko coating. A little greasy but delicious. This is such a popular spot in Maui and I can see why once our food arrived on the table. Luckily, we were close enough to walk to this place for dinner and put our name down on the waitlist. The restaurant only has 6 tables, so we waited about half an hour until we were seated. For food, we ordered the infamous Deep Fried Spam Musubi ($6.99), Mixed Plate ($23), Hawaiian Plate ($28), and Kalbi Fried Noodles ($19.50). We loved all the dishes and would order again everytime except the Hawaiian plate. This consisted of pork lau lau, kalua pork, and lomi salmon. I've never been much of a fan of this already, but the lack of flavor and texture on these dishes just didn't appeal to me. Aside from that, the mixed plate is the perfect dish to share and try a little bit of everything. It includes an ensemble of teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, chicken katsu, and breaded mahi mahi. They gave an excess amount of chicken katsu on this plate too. As for the deep fried spam, it was good but mostly tasted like a riceball. It's so pretty with all the layers of ingredients in it though. Finally, the best dish was the kalbi fried noodles. From the bouncy garlic noodles to the delicious kalbi, this dish was perfect! Their kalbi was well marinated and so tender, no wonder it's $37 for the kalbi plate alone! The best part is how huge the dishes are here. This was the only place we ended up getting takeout boxes for our leftover food because we couldn't finish it all. The best part was that it was just as good the next day, though I had to put the chicken katsu in the oven to keep the crispiness. Come to Da Kitchen for a delicious and fulfilling Hawaiian meal.
