First Time at Maui Lobster King! George and I stopped by Maui Lobster King in Kihei for the first time, and it was a fantastic lunch experience! We arrived right around 2:00 PM--perfect timing to catch that sweet spot between the lunch and dinner rush. The restaurant was incredibly clean on the inside, it wasn't busy at all, and we were seated immediately. (Bonus: If you're in a rush, they have a convenient dedicated counter right by the front for takeout orders!) The Details & Sides I have to give a shout-out to the presentation. George didn't think the branded logo accessories were necessary, but personally, I love logos! The more the better--especially when you're taking food photos, because everyone immediately knows where you are. We also tried the fries, which came out hot, crunchy, and served in an adorable mini fry basket. They were served plain, which is probably a smart move to keep salt from falling through the holes in the basket and making a mess on the way from the kitchen, but I definitely would have preferred them salted! George's Seafood Combo George ordered the seafood combo loaded with shrimp, snow crab, and king crab, which he thought was an excellent price for the amount of food you get. For his seasoning, he went with all the flavors combined and kicked it up to spicy. The Flavor: The spice level was pretty mild and manageable, leaning a bit more on the sweeter side, which was really tasty. The Seafood: He was seriously impressed with how perfectly everything was cooked--neither the snow crab nor the king crab were overcooked at all. The shrimp was absolutely delicious. The Sides & Sauce: The sweet corn and red potatoes soaked up the sauce beautifully. The sausage was good, though we both thought it would be next-level if they pan-fried it for a second before throwing it into the boil to give it a little extra color and texture! This place brings a lot of flavor! I was excited to try this place after seeing some videos on YouTube. It was definitely worth it! I went with the garlic shrimp. It comes with two scoops of rice and a small Mac salad. I will tell you that the garlic shrimp was some of the best I have ever had! I wish the shrimp were already peeled though because a lot of the garlic flavor and sauce was on the shell. I would order it again and again though. If you like shrimp get this! The Mac salad was one of the better Mac salads we had on our trip but it was still kind of average in my opinion. There were some little crunchy bits under the shrimp that was so flavorful when mixed with the rice. The chicken musubi was a big miss for me. Too much rice and not enough sauce. I'm not a shellfish eater, but I can always find something to eat when my friends or family have a craving for shellfish. We had a party of 11 and they quickly pushed a few tables together to accommodate us. My family ordered and paid at the counter, but the remaining group ordered from the table after they had arrived. My husband & daughter shared the Fresh Garlic Lobster Noodle plate, $46.95, and I ordered a Cheeseburger and fries $10.95, plus a side of macaroni salad, $2.50. The others enjoyed a crayfish plate, grilled fish plates, Korean short ribs plate, the Ginger Garlic Lobster plate ($39.95) and fries' w/gravy ($10.95). Everyone cleaned their plates! Friendly service and smiles all around from the staff. The restaurant is bright, clean, and welcoming, with a nautical theme. Good food and the only place you can have this type of experience on Maui as far as I know! The restaurant itself feels like you're sitting at a higher end fast food chain, but we had fun! The seafood bake with potatoes, sausages, corn, seafood is a big hit. They give you gloves, a bib, and wet wipes. We got the garlic noodles, lobster dish, and really enjoyed it. Being that this was the only seafood boil spot that popped up when we were craving seafood, we decided to give this place a try. You order right when you walk in & take a seat at one of the tables. We ordered the seafood combo with all the seasonings & spicy & the grilled shrimp. Our food came out pretty quick but we did have to ask our server for multiple things even though we were the only table in the restaurant. The fried shrimp wasn't too bad but the seafood boil was the worst boil I've ever had. The crab was as small as my fingers & there was barely any other seafood. The sauce somehow tasted.. burnt? It was so watery & flavorless. I tried to add lemon to it to try to help with the taste, but it was so gross it didn't help. Their sauce needs to be fixed because I couldn't taste any lemon pepper or Cajun, just burnt butter. This place was not good at all & not somewhere I'd return. If you like lobster, this is the place for you. Excellent preparation and not too salty. Kids loved the lobster with noodles and we came back twice for that. Dug in so fast we never got a photo haha. Shrimp & Clam Plate: Really good fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Garlic Lobster Noodles: Tasty and satisfying. Riblets Plate: Really, really good. One of our favorites. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the service was great. The restaurant itself is very clean, which we appreciated. The only thing we noticed is that we're used to eating spicy food, and they didn't have any chile options aside from Sriracha but that's just a personal preference. I was hesitant to come, due to the menu and name changes over the past couple of years. The place looks like a high-end Asian restaurant, all marble/stone and gold, with the exception of the giant windows. It smelled and looked very, very clean. I was greeted nearly immediately, so having been caught staring at the menu, I decided to buckle up and stay for the ride. It promotes its Cajun style lobster boil, which I like the idea, but that concept with the rest of the menu makes it appear like the identity of the restaurant is still being explored. A family having the lobster boil meal in the restaurant commented it was 'delicious!". I'd like to come back and try the boil with a friend. Although it's called "Maui Lobster King", I'd say it's closer in line with Hawaiian barbecue style places, with its options of steamed rice, macaroni salad, shrimp, fish, beef, etc. It also includes hamburgers on its menu, which surprised me, as it surprised another reviewer. Not a bad thing, but hamburgers at a lobster restaurant does raise the eyebrows. I ordered the 5 piece shrimp plate, with rice and macaroni salad. For $12.99, it woudn't be a huge money risk. It was generally very good! The shrimp was hot and crispy. The breading was a little thick but it's likely to provide value despite the small-ish shrimp. Very tasty shrimp breading. A pretty common seafood sauce was included, and it may have been home made. Nice flavor. The rice was perfectly cooked. The macaroni salad was a little tasteless, like it needed salt or vinegar. When I asked for shoyu, I was politely offered an array of seasonings: their own chili sauce, salt, pepper, shoyu, Tabasco and siracha. Their chili sauce was amazing! It brightened up my meal immensely. I am thinking they should almost sell their sauce, on the side, like another restaurant of which I know and enjoy does with its own hot sauce. Their small plates are extremely reasonable: $12.99 for a five piece shrimp meal, mac salad, rice and cabbage salad underneath. Some food trucks are charging double for less. I don't need a lot of food, as I don't like to feel 'stuffed' and my appetite as a person in her 50s is not the same as some of those Maui bodybuilders. So, their small plates are perfect for me, in terms of food amounts and pricing. I'd return. read more

This place really shocked us! So our flight was delayed and as it was getting late when we arrived on Maui we found a food place on route to hotel and stumbled onto this hidden gem. We really didn't know what to expect so we ordered the garlic lobster and some burgers. The burgers came out and looked basic af so we started thinking oh we messed up ordering burgers at a lobster joint, BUT as soon as we bit into the burgers oh man!!! I don't know what they season the patty with but far out it was tasty af! Then the garlic lobster came out and that was a flavour explosion! Like it made you wanna just eat the shell and everything! The girl working there was awesome too, she seemed to be the only server and was really doing a great job taking care of all the patrons. Looked like a locally owned business too and not some stupid capitalist chain, so we were happy about that. But man the food was bussin! Best thing? The price was so good! We went here on a Sunday after church with my wife, 2 daughters, mother in law and one of my daughter's friends. This place is located in the location of the old Von's Chicken and before that, Taco Bell. You can order at the front if you'd like (maybe you're carrying out) or you can also order at the table (a server will come to your table). Their menu is mostly focused on seafood boils (they have a neon sign in their window that says "Boiling Seafood")...but they have other items, as well. Everyone at our table except me ordered and/or shared the seafood boil. To anyone who has ordered at Shrimp Hale, this restaurant is more or less the exact same concept. They are the only place like this in Kihei. The price of their seafood boil is about $55, I believe Shrimp Hale is $52...very comparable. These are the prices if you don't add premium seafoods like lobster, dungeness crab, etc. The seafood is brought to the table in a large plastic bag with corn, potatoes, sausages, and 3 choices of seafood - we tried snow crab legs, shrimp, clams, crawfish across 2 orders). I believe white rice and Fries are included too, similar to Shrimp Hale. All seafood is tossed in a flavorful sauce of your choice. My wife said she preferred the sauce flavor from Shrimp Hale, my oldest daughter said it was the same to her. They provide gloves, bib, wet naps, plenty of dry napkins, table is covered in paper, and there are tools to crack shells for crab/lobster. It's an experience!!! I tried the bbq plate lunch with shrimp and fish. It came with two large scoops of white rice, one scoop of Mac salad, 3 fried filets of fish coated in panko bread crumbs, 4 very good sized prawns also fried and coated in panko bread crumbs, a side of tartar sauce, and some tomatoes and cucumber slices. It was standard fare as far as I could tell. If you're into plate lunch fare, you'd like this. It's similar to L&L but probably better quality and bigger portions. I would say the portions on both the seafood boils and the plate lunch are very generous. Staff were friendly and very attentive to refilling drinks. Our server accidentally spilled a drink on our table but the manager gave us a free side of calamari for the trouble. I wouldn't recommend the calamari, personally. The calamari at Shrimp Hale is substantially better as it is deep fried in a crispy and flavorful batter. This one didn't have much batter and wasn't as flavorful. It was free, though, so I can't complain too much! I'm sure we will be back to Maui Lobster King again. As said before, it's really the only Seafood boil place in Kihei and we live in Kihei. Prices are a little steep so it's probably not someplace I could go all the time. Figure to probably spend somewhere in the 100-200 range for a table of 6. Kids love it, so if you want a fun experience for your kids, go for it! Aloha! read more

After a morning doctor's appointment in town, I was running on empty and craving something comforting--so I took a chance on this spot, especially after reading about the owner chasing his dream. From start to finish, the simple things were done exceptionally well. The potatoes were cooked to perfection, the corn was delightfully sweet, and the sauce was bright and flavorful without ever feeling heavy or overly salty. I tried the mussels with garlic sauce--it was lovely. Beyond the food, the warm atmosphere, friendly customers and service made the meal even more enjoyable. I can't wait to bring a friend back for a proper boil and experience more of their mouthwatering Cajun classics. You have to try this place! We are from Atlanta and we have a boil place on every corner so we have tried them all! This one was one of the best flavors and food. They give you 3 choices of meats (lobster, king crab and something else is an upgrade) but then they give you corn, potatoes, sausage and it comes with fries and white rice. They are only opened for less than a week when we visited so it was truly a soft opening. The staff were very friendly and tried their best to take care of the tables (they are also gaining experience since it is their soft opening). The food was good. We got some mini plates (loco moco, bbq chicken for the kid) and the onion lobster and enjoyed them all. The mini portion was a very solid amount for the kid and we are so glad they offer this option even for the adults when we did not feel like eating too much. The lobster was fresh and tasty.
