So good! This little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Kihei was such a great find. We got two combo plates to feed my entire family, and it was well worth it! The combo plate comes with katsu, beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, mac salad, and cabbage. Everything was well seasoned, flavorful, and came out super quick even though they were really busy. Super nice staff who were kind, friendly and attentive. This is a great local food spot with huge portions, so you definitely get your money's worth if you're coming here to eat. So much food but so good. The person that brought the menu explained the menu to us and then we were left to our devices to make our picks. Garlic noodles with chicken had really great garlic flavor and tasted like it was cooked on a grill. I had the kalua plate which came with rice, macaroni, and pulled pork. The pulled pork was very good, but the macaroni was my favorite. It's not something I normally eat so it was a real treat.. love the authentic food. Came in pretty late to this spot and they were still super busy. Heard they were out of fried musubi which was fine. Ordered the Mixed Plate and Kalbi Tacos. After ordering went to Long Drugs next door for a few things and came back to pick up our order, felt like it was about 20-30 minutes? Food was worth the wait! Mixed Plate came with like 5 different proteins I think there was Mahi Mahi, chicken, katsu, bbq beef and something else with potato Mac salad and rice. Mixed plate was LOADEDDDDD. Hefty bowl and I can't believe my boyfriend and I got to finish it, it was a lot; definitely worth the price. Mahi Mahi was super crispy and prob the best I've had. I had the kalbi plate which was one lb of ribs on a bed of rice and a side of macaroni salad. We also got the kitchen Bento plate which was Spam musubi, tempura, teriyaki chicken and beef, and chicken katsu. PLENTY of food for the two and a half of us! There are only a few tables inside and if you're lucky to be seated, they'll take your order and serve you. Otherwise, order at the counter and hope to find a spot outside: first come, first served. We got there right around 530 on a Friday and got lucky, the place was packed before we knew it! Da Kitchen knows how to deliver variety. They offer several combo plates that are tempting. Last time, I had a hard time deciding between the Mixed Plate and the Bento Plate. Both options have a lot of food and I swear I planned to share it with my bestie. They both have teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, katsu chicken and rice & mac salad. The Mixed Plate comes with breaded mahi mahi. The Bento comes with Spam Musubi and shrimp tempura. I know that the shrimp comes from Costco, so I prefer the mahi. Da Kitchen is our favorite restaurant on Maui and a staple for visiting family. Small but mighty restaurant tucked in a strip mall. The beach decor is cute and appropro. Every employee we have encountered has been super friendly and attentive. The most delicious item on the menu is the deep fried spam musubi. The dipping sauce that comes with is mouthwatering. My favorite treat on Maui. Our other go to is the kalbi fried noodles. This dish is consistently perfect and filling. We also had a mixed plate. The fish was flaky and tender and very good. The teriyaki beef and chicken were tender and tasty. I adore the Mac salad here. The potato bits in it make it genuinely Hawaiian. On this particular visit, the chef sent out a dish he is experimenting with for us to sample. It was waigu beef and scallops. Both were delectable and if they are added to the menu, I'm getting a second job to fund my new obsession. Stopped by on a weekend night for loco moco and they are busyyyy. The good thing is they have outdoor seating (but it's not full service). We ordered the loco moco, which was a hefty portion and decent tasting (but by no means the best loco moco we've had). We also ordered the fried spam musubi and we loved the concept! I don't think I've ever eaten as much rice as I have anywhere else. Each plate had rice and they even gave rice with their side dishes. Nonetheless, the food here was amazing. I tried eating as much rice as I could because it did pair well with both the loco moco and kalbi we got. The kalbi had this amazing char and the flavor was sweet and savory. A little pricey, but worth it on vacation. I never had loco moco, but it was definitely a great first experience. It was very saucy and the meat was cooked well. The egg makes it creamy. I learned that I don't care for lau lau, but that's on me. I'm glad I tried it. He got something that had everything--all the meats. I tried his kahlua pork. 3.5 stars Da Kitchen is tucked in the corner of a plaza and serves classic Hawaiian fare. It's a casual spot where you walk up to the counter and order. They don't allow you to sit inside until you're dining in but there are some tables outside. We ordered the deep fried musubi ($6.99), kalbi mix plate ($31), and katsu moco ($26.50). The deep fried musubi was different than what I'm used to but it was decent. I liked the dipping sauce but you could taste more of the deep fried part than the spam musubi part. I would've preferred the spam to be thicker to stand out a little more. The kalbi mix plate included both kalbi and chicken which were both really good. The katsu moco is their most popular and had a large patty but the inside was a little mushy. The chicken katsu was decent but could've used more sauce. Tucked away in a busy plaza, this classic Hawaiian plate meal joint is certainly busy even later into the night when I came. It's bustling inside, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to handle the crowd. However, service was definitely on the slower side and it could get confusing as they have a line each for dine-in orders and takeout orders. The staff were nice and accommodating, which helped make ordering straightforward. The food was decidedly ok. I went for the katsu and kalua combo, which for $24 is alright and can definitely feed 2-3 people. There's a healthy amount of carbs with a couple big rice scoops and a big mac scoop. The katsu chicken was a little dry and didn't have too much flavor to it. A lot of times I felt I was tasting more of the breading than the chicken itself. The kalua pork was a let down- it was very salty to the point of being overbearing, even when served with rice. I could not get myself to finish it, even though it was juicy and tender. The saltiness was more than what I expected, even after trying other pulled kalua pork on the island. Lastly, there was only one small katsu pork sauce cup. Given the portion size, a larger sauce cup would be a nice touch. Overall, it may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for good value and portions, this place is worth a try. Don't know if it was all the hungry early morning Black Friday shoppers or the pent up demand because Da Kitchen was closed on Thanksgiving. The limited inside dining room and outside seating were all taken. I patiently waited 20-25 minutes for our take out. The Fish Tempura was perfectly cooked, light and airy, as I remembered. Husband got the Garlic Noodles with a side of Teriyaki Chicken. Enough food for two meals; luckily picked up a Costco chicken earlier so it will pair perfectly with the leftover Garlic Noodles.
