The service was fantastic and our waiter had such a great sense of humor and command of English. His knowledge of our merlot was impressive. The food was top notch especially the Tira misu increbile! I'm sure the host heard me dithering about vegetables, and suggested when we ordered to bring a salad for us to share to start. It was probably on the menu somewhere, but... Don't miss this place. The food and service is spectacular. Truly a group that loves food. It's a little expensive but totally worth it! And they accommodated my children with open arms. ​ Fantastic restaurant. We arrived at 12:45 and it was so quiet we thought it wasn't opened yet which was a very welcomed change from the busy side streets of San Marco square. Just perfect! This wasn't not busy for long but at first it was as if we had the entire outside dining area to ourselves and it was lovely. We started with a great Prosecco (my drink of the holiday other than bellinis). The clam linguine was amazing. The fish secondo was superb and the desserts were absolutely incredible. We are foodies from LA and travel a lot. It was our last night in Italy and too tired to go restaurant hunting, so we chose this one, virtually next door to our apartment. We had seen it during the week, thought it was old world charming but were reluctant since it was close to the tourist area, higher priced than any other restaurants we dined at and carried a service charge which I'm still not sure the purpose of. As it turns out the food was wonderful. We ordered a antipasto with mozzarella cold cuts, a very large prawn scampi dish fresh from the fishing docs, a pasta with a cream sauce and Italian ham plus a to-die-for desert of strawberry geloto with chocolate sauce. Service was Italian grouchy but professional. Atmosphere was why we chose it in the first place, very comfortable and charming, one of the few places where there was legroom under the table. We really enjoyed the vegan food. In contrast to some of the other reviewers we really liked the outdoor seating not being a popular tourist destination. The seats are covered by large umbrellas . This place was recommended to us by our tour guide. Venetians do love their seafood. But it was just too authentic for us. Not a lot of options for non-seafood fanatics. Busy atmosphere. Waitstaff was not friendly. But not exactly rude. Would not recommend unless you really like digging your dinner out of its shell and fish with heads and tails still on. I came here because I saw that it had a vegan menu. I was super excited that they catered to vegans and non vegans because that meant I could enjoy some tasty pasta with friends. Boy was I wrong. My friends all loved their dishes, but mine tasted as if it was noodles in just water. It had zero flavor. I had everyone at the table taste it and they couldn't believe how bad it tasted. I give this restaurant props for even having a vegan menu, but maybe stick to what you know in order to save vegans from paying 20+ euros a dish for plain noodles and water. We were able to secure a table quickly without reservations. This is what we ate/drank: Served a amuse-bouche of tuna mousse in a little puff pastry. Tasted like a tiny tuna fish sandwich. Ordered the special which was a spider crab with pasta. The taste was delicious but I couldn't figure out the so called spider crab from the Mediterranean Sea? It tasted similar to tuna. I went here for the first time about a month ago. LOCATION: It's pretty close to Rialto Bridge, and not too far of a walking distance from a lot of other main city sights, which is nice. 3/5 ATMOSPHERE: The inside area was just okay. Overall, it was just okay. It was very simple, and I usually like simple, but I felt like it easily could've been made a lot better by just adding some vegetables to it, so there was more to it. It would still be pretty simple, but as it is, it's just basically plain pasta with tomato sauce and a little garnishing. Also, the corn pasta was a little undercooked, but I didn't feel like complaining because I was hungry and didn't feel like waiting longer lol. But, the tomato sauce was fine and not oily (which I appreciated a lot), but I wish they put more. The arugula was fine and fresh. But, I honestly wasn't a fan of the almonds because I'm not a huge fan of nuts in general. So, I didn't really eat them haha. Also, I think it was a bit small for the price (€18). Like, it either should be bigger, or the price should be lowered to no more than (€12). Anyways, it was okay, but I didn't love it. 3/5 SERVICE: The service was fine. Well this review is a little late but when your meals are this memorable, you make sure to give the praise it deserves. Fantastic. That's the word. For the service, for the food, for the atmosphere. The staff at da Mario is amazing. I am a picky eater and they did everything possible to make us happy and introduce us to new things that are a staple in Venetian cuisine. There were some things they convinced me to try that I am so happy about. And there are old favorites that they breathed new and creative life into. The presentations were elegant. The pastry chef prepared the desserts right in front of us. Everything was delicious. I am not a vegan but they have a vegan menu. They also cater to those who cannot eat gluten. Choices for vegetarians are very limited. It seems as if though they would have more but it turned out they don't. The food was just all right. Okay, best food I have ever had in my life! No joke. Being a celiac (who also has a milk and egg intolerance) seemed to be virtually impossible in Venice, until we accidentally stumbled across this place that had a full vegan menu that included gluten free options! I was given FRESH gluten free bread and my main course was baked tofu, tomato and eggplant covered in the tastiest variety of sauces! In addition, our server was so friendly! The downside is, obviously, it's very expensive. But to be fair, it was quite worth it! (Especially if you're gluten free vegan and pretty much have few other options.) read more

Warning! This review is not some ignorant disgruntled American. This is to warn you that if you only want to order a bottle of wine or something to drink and a appetizer, they will kick you out. Yes. Literally take your menus and kick you out. Wife and I sat down, ordered a 65$(euro) bottle of wine, and were in the process of going through their 9 page menu to find an appetizer or something that looked good. We decided against lunch and to settle on just the app. The waiter came over from the second we sat down and like four more times within a couple minutes to see what we wanted. We initially ordered the wine thinking that would buy us more time. He comes back three times, and we're still looking. Mind you, this is all in about three minutes. Finally partly because we felt rushed and partly because we thought an appetizer would be sufficient, we said no thank you on the lunch you are so desperately trying to force us to buy, we'll just have the bottle of wine and appetizer. Next thing we know, he snatches the menus, and says, no, no drink without lunch. Lol. I don't care what country you're in. If you have five empty tables, and nobody waiting to sit in them, you don't take money back out of your own pocket as a small business. I read all these reviews about people complaining about bad service. This wasn't a case of a language barrier or anything. Most restaurants servers don't check on you very often in Italy because they want you to sit and wait and enjoy each course. This wasn't that. It was just pure stupidity. Our first bottle of wine plus an app probably would have netted them 75 euros. Instead they have an empty table and a one star review. Get with the times or get left behind. The vast majority of the income for restaurants and shops in Venice is now tourism. Wake up or get left behind. read more

I'm gluten-free and vegan, which is very challenging in Italy. Most restaurants in Venice offer pasta, meat or seafood, cheese. So I was thrilled to find this restaurant. It offered the opportunity to enjoy a fine dining experience in Italy within the parameters of my diet. We had a beautiful appetizer made with artichokes and some kind of yummy "cheesy" filling with a delicate sauce. Then I had a gf pasta dish that was nicely prepared al dente. A classy italian bistrot than serves a tasty and creative venitian food. They also propose some vegan meals. We had grilled squids and salops, oriechete with olives and melanzana, and red tuna. The staff graciously accepted me after another restaurant rudely (epically) failed to serve us. Excellent food (wife had the spaghetti(which, by the way is very hard to ace in Venice)) and I had the baked calamari which was fantastic. We ordered the house salad (super fresh and good to share), the clams spaghetti (the clams were huge and noodle made aldent with a rich but light white sauce), and main courses of veal loin and sea bass. We reviewed the menu and chose a few items to order, mainly sharing dishes (a few appetizers as none of us were starving) and we were going to order some wine and drinks. Upon informing the server of our intentions of this, he immediately and rudely notified us that we all had to order dinner or we could not stay. What?! He then quickly said he'd "ask the owner" if we could stay if we only wanted to order a few items to which he quickly heard back and then informed us we could not! What kind of restaurant believes they can tell me what I can, and cannot order, and how much? Are you that arrogant? So you don't want my business? You'd rather have us leave vs. ordering numerous items and drinks? So, we immediately got up and we left. I had nothing left to say and was absolutely shocked. I've eaten all over the world and have never experienced anything at all like this. Simply put, it was pathetic. The ironic thing, is while staying there for many nights we noticed the place was almost empty (as it was when we sat) every single day. You wonder why that is? I believe my experience is a prime example of why. Word of advice, don't tell people how much they should order or what they should order.... it's arrogant and absolutely ridiculous. A gem amid the ruckus and buckus of Venice shopping. We visited during the dinner hour. Warm greeting in a quiet setting and very professional servers. Servers may seem standoffish at first, but warms up when, of course, compliments about the food are shared. From appetizer to dessert, every bite was delicious and well presented.
