Came in, went to the bar. Quickly was told we were not suppose to be here. Was told to wait at the front, waited till others got menu around us. Told us to go to the front to get them, then was told they have the at the bar. Came back with the owner, then provided menu with bartender which was rude and stuck up. As a retired marine and working in the food industry, this disrespect and attitude to anyone is unacceptable. Nobody wants to deal with problems when paying for meals or sitting at a bar. We were ignored, treated rudely and given the run around to get a menu while everyone else had them and the bar itself did also to create issues. read more

The cutest restaurant I have even been to. Seriously, their decor is next level. The service also gets ten stars. The server was so nice and helpful despite it being super busy. Since it was our first trip, they gave us samples of each of the meats to help us order better. Yes everything comes on compostable paper plates- honestly it probably saves them some valuable real estate in the kitchen. They staff were super efficient- I watched the chefs through the window while waiting for a table and it was honestly impressive. Everything we had was delicious- the mac salad was the only thing I wouldn't get again and thats personal preference - I have no doubt theirs is more authentic than what I prefer. As people who love tiki bars we've been wanting to try Da Tiki Hut for a while and we're so glad we finally did. We cannot wait to go back! We weren't expecting too much due to its location (off a busy street with strip mall vibes) but it's such a gem inside! You walk in and it's a normal quick service restaurant... But then once you tell them you're there for the bar or to sit down and eat they let you in through a little magical side door (think speakeasy ish). It's so cute and decorated with vintage and classic tiki items. They know what they're doing when it comes to true tiki culture. The bar is stocked with all the best rums (Appleton Estate, Planteray etc) and other libations. They have fun non-alchocholic options, too! The bartender was so nice and friendly and welcoming. We got the zombie (with alcohol) and the Cinderella which is non-alchoholic. Both were delicious and really took us on an escapism getaway to paradise. They do have food however as vegetarians our options were limited. They have fries and veggie Lumpia, beyond that it's all meat. If that's your thing they do offer little meat samples when you sit down. Cannot wait to go back and try more drinks... and would love to try dinner if they expand their vegetarian/vegan options. read more

A Hawaiian restaurant order-in-front when you first step in, revealing a nice indoor dining area behind a hidden-like door with a tiki bar ambience. We dined in so that we could try out the tiki bar along with some food. You only need to order at the front if you are doing takeout. When we first seated, they gave us a small tasting of 3 meats for the plates - tiki chicken, Korean chicken, and kalua pork. The chicken was a bit dry but the kalua pork is good, so we opted to get a different dish instead of our planned combo plate lunch. We tried Ben's Special Loco Moco which has a hamburger patty and kalua pork, with 3 fried eggs, served with rice and mac salad. We also got a spicy musubi which is a spam musubi with house spicy sauce. They deliver these in paper plates and disposable utensils which is not the most environmentally friendly, but food did come out fast. The loco moco is decent, up to par, but the rice is a bit mushy and overcooked. The kalua pork is pretty flavorful, but had a bit too much fat overall. Additionally, because of egg shortage, they charged $3 more than the menu price so temporarily, I would not recommend ordering the loco moco dishes. The spam musubi is decent too, cut in half and it was a large musubi for $4. We also ordered some drinks which were fairly strong: Okolemaluana Mai Tai that tastes a little more fruit forward than the standard Mai Tai, Test Pilot that is more spirit forward, and Sea Foam Swell that is less strong and more sweet, topped with whipped cream, which is my favorite drink here of the 3. For dessert, we got the ube mochi brownie which is light and flavorful. For $2.75, this was an excellent price Overall, food is decent but forgettable, but I recommend the drinks here as they are very strong and for a below average price for the area. read more

Food is pretty dang good. The decor is fun to look at, especially if you sit by the glass window with the fountain behind it. The bar was the star of the show. The bartender was great to talk to and very knowledgeable about all sorts of rums, tiki glasses and drinks. He also had a great conversation with us about the history of the building. The food comes out on paper plates and you're given plastic utensils, just like in Hawaii. The poke was great and tasted really fresh. Tried this place after my Niece saw a TikTok review. When we arrived we were surprised to see it was a place we'd driven by a million times but never even noticed it. Because it was our first time there the waitress brought out a small sample of each meat they offered for everyone at the table and it was the perfect gesture as all of us need up ordering their large combo. The decor theme was so cute and interesting. With the background music it really felt like you were on a mini vacation. There's a closed door that leads into a dining room with maybe 6-7 booths, in a dark area, each table with a hanging light. Further in to the smallish bar. Another 2-3 roomy booths and maybe 6 bar stools. Full bar but limited beer selections and none on tap. Large menu selection, mostly teriyaki style, chicken, pork, beef dishes with rice etc. Many variations of such. Burgers, a few salads, sides. Musubi is what I came for. Specialty drinks, desserts. Food was fine, not great. I came for musubi but the spam slices are thin and the seaweed wrap is tough making it hard to bite through. So, if you like "tiki bars" it's just "okay". A hidden gem in Tacoma!! I am so glad that I visited this place with my family. Found out about this place from a TikTok content creator. The interior of this restaurant is absolutely beautiful and unique with their decorations. The staff is extremely kind. We got a sampler of the different types of meats as first-time customers, and the chef also had us try a sample of something that he was testing out with his recipes! The Hawaiian food was delicious, alongside liked the Tiki Soda and Dole Whip. I would love to come back here next time when in the Tacoma area and I want to explore their drinks menu as the photos of it look refreshing and pretty. The ambiance once you get past the front and into the dining area, blew us away! It's such a cool place- truly "tiki-vibes". The service was fantastic and started with a small sampler for each of us with all their meats- kahlua pork, teriyaki chicken, and more. After sampling that, I opted for the mochiko chicken plate, fried chicken bites with a spicy mayo, came with rice and your choice of macaroni salad or a green salad. I love Hawaiian macaroni salad- and I chose that, was delicious. My husband had the spicy poke plate, he said it was one of the best dishes he has had. I looked this place up and didn't see the picture. We went to check out the tiki bar and was a little confused when we walked in . There is a counter that you order food but didn't see anything else. Thought we were at the wrong place. I asked for the tiki bar and was then escorted through a door into a great little restaurant and led to the tiki bar in the back. Yay!!! It was dimly lit ... like you'd expect and had a great bar tender who made us delicious tiki drinks. They had several to choose from and he talked with us while we enjoyed our tiki drinks. They offer really good b-bque and we were offered samples of each choice when we sat down. I wished we had the time to eat but we were meeting family at another location. Ok, I'm going to have to bump this place up to five stars now. I was here years ago and there wasn't much of an atmosphere going on. But now there is just dollops of atmosphere now since Da Tiki Hut went through some remodels it is completely different and unrecognizable from before. The food is as good as I remember it as we tried several different kinds of meats which were delicious. I got Kahlua Pork which was wonderful but the Korean Chicken and the Tiki Chicken were fantastic also. I got a small plate of the Kahlua Pork with rice and macaroni salad. I got the pineapple upside down cake again and Steve got a great mochi cake. Cocktails are here and I got the Classic Mai Tai which was good but really strong! Steve got the Saturn cocktail which was good, not as strong as mine but I liked the garnish decoration looking like the planet. I'd love to come back here again and hopefully not so many years would pass before tge return trip. *Update* We got two kinds of Misubi and it was great! Definitely recommend! read more

Holy cow! I hadn't been for a while and we came to dine in and it was fantastic! I didn't know they'd completely redone the inside as a tiki lounge. The decor was beautifully done, including an awesome tiki garden with a treasure chest and fountain (behind a window) that you can sit next to. The waitress offered a cup of water with a straw for our child, it was much appreciated. Food came out fast. We ordered the chicken Katsu with Mac Salad and the bbq pork sandwich. The Katsu was perfect- the right thickness with crispy breading that melts in your mouth. And the Mac salad is on point. The bbq pork sandwich was simple and delicious- exactly what you want. We ordered the dole whip float for dessert and chose both the pineapple and mango soft serve in pineapple juice. Again, absolutely awesome. Finally stopped in. Been a while of driving by and wondering. We came in for lunch and ordered plate lunch with kalua pig, a combo plate lunch, and a loco moco. Of course, we all did a mac salad side. We also ordered two spam musubi (to see how they compare to our Samoan friend's homemade musubi). The inside has definite tiki bar vibes. Service was prompt and friendly. Our drinks arrived quickly and orders taken right away. Points for the paper plates! The mac salad had less mayo than expected and we liked it that way. Great flavor. All of the meats were tasty. Would have preferred a thicker slice of spam in the musubi but the flavors were all great. Da Tiki Hut provided a good slice of Hawaiian flavors in Tacoma. We also sampled the ube mochi cake, a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie, and a peanut butter cookie. Each of them were good. We live up north but were in the area checking out the Toytopia exhibit at the history museum, and stopped by here for lunch based off all the excellent reviews. Service: so kind! They were sweet, friendly, and so kind with us and our two kids. They brought over little samples of their meats which were a hit with our kids, and actually prompted them both to change their minds about what they wanted to eat. Food: delicious! Our kids both got the keiki plates, one with tiki chicken and one with Korean chicken. Even our pickiest kid ate a ton. We got a side of fries for them too which were also great (crispy and freshly fried) - obviously a big hit with the kids too. Husband got a pulled pork bbq sandwich and I got the mochiko chicken. Both excellent! Everything is made to order it seemed like, so give some grace - it doesn't take forever but it also it isn't fast food. Felt like a reasonable wait for us and our kids busied themselves with coloring, but if you have impatient little kids, then something to consider if you just wanted a quick pit stop. Ambiance: the tiki lounge vibe is unique and was fun for our kids especially. But it's also quiet and the booths are tucked away enough you could have a relaxing meal without feeling like you're hearing everyone else's conversations. It was a briefly tough adjustment going back out into the sunshine after being in the darkened lounge area though! All in all, super lovely folks and delicious food. Looks like a random strip mall restaurant but totally remodeled inside for a Tiki flare It's the old taco time off 6th Avenue for those been in Tacoma for at least ten years. Friendly staff, pleasant decor and Hawaiian music. Had the mochiko chicken lunch plate with salad and the kalua pork plate. Nice smoky flavors with the pork and a light breaded crispy chicken with slight sweet notes. Worth a try if you haven't given this small business a try. I give them credit for trying .... They gave us each a sample that included Mochiko chicken, Korean chicken, tiki chicken, and Kalua pig. It wasn't bad at all however, being that I am originally from Hawaii ...What an insult to Hawaiian food.... The pork belly pupu was the best thing we tried. We ordered the regular loco moco and the Ben's Special loco moco. The burger on the local moco was a previously frozen burger with NO taste except a little freezer burn, NOT home made, one of the smallest beds of rice, and the least amount of package brown gravy mix. Had to ask for more gravy and they charged me $3 for a side of packaged gravy mix like WTH and to top it off ... there was no Tabasco! The Ben's Loco tasted a bit better besides the fact of the tiny little bed of rice and limited brown gravy mix. The Hawaiian Mac Salad is Not Rocket Science... so basically I give them 3 stars since I believe the tiki chicken is made from Yoshida sauce. Would I come back .... Nah ... I'd pass! read more

I have to admit, I've driven by this unremarkable little strip mall a thousand times. As the phrase goes, don't judge a book by its cover! A hidden gem is waiting for you inside. While the restaurant is in front, the creatively decorated bar is where it's at. The bartender, Rob, crafted (yes) beautiful drinks and was friendly without being phony. Genuine and knowledgeable. Good combo. I had the Corpse Reviver (with absinthe) and a Classic Mai Thai. Cool Hawaiian music played while I enjoyed. I was provided a small sampler upon arrival which had Korean chicken, Kahlua Pork and BBQ chicken. Really good. I took home gyoza and they had a nice combo of tenderness and crunch. The inside seems interesting but you can't even go into the restaurant it's got a "secret door" . The gentleman at the front is rude, annoying, and made me and numerous others walk out of this place. The best in town with affordable pricing! The food was tender and flavorful. My favorite was the combo a bit of everything; the Kalua pig was delicious very similar to pull pork. The mac salad was my kids favorite. Loco moco had the perfect amount of runny egg. The atmosphere was different and very unique. The service was good the waitress didn't keep asking how the food was.
