Expecting a wait at what appeared to be a very busy local spot, we spent the time stretching our legs after the drive in, catching up and taking pictures, so the wait was no biggie. Finally, we were ushered to our table. The servicer had tables all over the restaurant and seemed like she was run ragged. After waiting so long outside, I believe that the delay to be served our drinks was far too long. No one ordered a specialty drink, unless you consider my bestie's bottled grapefruit juice that was served after the otherdrinks for some odd reason "specialty". My son's kids meal, 2 scrawny chicken tenders and a very small mixed fruit arrived and he had devoured it before anyone else's food arrived, and he was asking fir the rest. Of note, there was also another child in our party. She was served with the adults. Once the rest of our meals arrived to our table, we were in a much less crowded restaurant, and pretty hungry. The portions were quite large, and everyone's meal arrived as ordered. We left satisfied, but we just could not understand the delays once we were seated! I wasn't blown away by the experience overall, but I would call in an order or two of those gouda grits for pickup if I lived nearby.

The inside was warm and inviting not crowded for Thursday afternoon so that was good. Our server was very informative when I asked about the popular dishes and made recommendations and was offered the specials on a little piece of paper which I thought was a good Idea. We decided on the meatloaf special and Ruban sandwich and beef tortellini soup. We were told they had big portions so we were expecting great things. Soup came first it was excellent so off to a good start, then came our food the portions were normal size in my opinion, the meatloaf was average kinda bland and dry no wow factor but just okay. The Ruban sandwich was good size but mostly sauerkraut not enough meat. The rye bead was delicious and the dressing was good but still no wow factor. The ice tea was great not cloudy. Overall the food was average but for the price I'd say a good value. On to the desserts which I took to go and were outstanding, that was the star of the show for me I guess but I'm willing to try some different things next time. It's a good little place and the Staff was excellent, but I feel like the food was average.

The space itself is actually a decent size--medium to large with enough seating to where you aren't fighting for real estate against the afternoon rush. It has a good flow to it, which I appreciated. I decided to deviate from the standard soul food lanes and went with the Caribbean Jerk Alfredo Combo, which comes with chicken and shrimp, plus some garlic bread on the side. Now, let's be clear: this is a soul food establishment, not a Caribbean kitchen, and that distinction was definitely present in the flavor profile. Everything was pretty tasty and the portions were solid, but it wasn't the best Jerk I've ever encountered. The sauce had some life to it, but if you're looking for that authentic island heat that makes you see colors, this isn't that. It's a soulful take on a fusion dish, and it does the job well enough for a mid-week craving. Overall, the vibes were straight and the food was good. It's a reliable spot to keep in the rotation when you want a heavy plate and want to keep your dollars in the community. I'll probably stick to the more traditional staples next time I slide through, but I walked out satisfied.

While the Cornbread was firm, it was good. Unfortunately, they charged me for 3 sides, instead of just 2. So, because of this, I didn't give a voluntary tip. Fortunately, Chris had gotten some Kenyan Hot Sauce, which I tried on the CFS. And, it really helped with the taste. Sadly, they only 1, 10 oz bottle, which I let them have. And, I bought a 5 oz bottle. The HS has a unique texture, but isn't "hot" in the traditional sense.

The service by our friendly and funny waitress Beth was top notch. We went early , getting there 15 minutes before they opened at 11. There were already a dozen folks waiting on the porch already! They had a sign in sheet by the door so there was no rush or guessing when to go in as they called parties from the list. The dining rooms is not big and there are lots of antiques and movie posters on the walls. You really felt you were back in a restaurant decades ago. The train tracks are right beside The Whistle Stop so the name is appropriate. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were great with the somewhat spicy remoulade sauce they came with. I then had the pork chops and my wife had the chopped steak. Both were good. The veggies we saw all looked good. The Brussels sprouts were roasted with sugar I think as they were sweet. The mashed potatoes were good the turnip greens were just OK as was the cornbread. Our total bill, for two lunches and 2 teas was about $55. After lunch the small Main Street in Juliette offered several shops to browse through and shop making for a fun lunch outing.

She kept the whole family in stitches. The restaurant is pretty popular, so there is a bit of a wait, but there are several shops along the street displaying an eclectic mixture of items, including FGT souvenirs (think "Towanda!") We asked for an extra plate and they didn't bring the extra plate for the food we had at the table until we got our other food that was already ordered at the same time. we asked for an extra plate three times . Then nobody came to check on us the whole time we sat there for 30 minutes. Then we had a flagged someone down for the check. No one came so we got up and went over to the counter. The lemon blueberry pancakes were hideous, like an eight-year-old made them and looks absolutely nothing like the picture, and tasted just as bad. We got the crabcake Benedict, which the crab seemed like it had been not the freshest and that didn't taste great either and the grits and eggs were cold.. The ambience is very pretty inside. However, everyone was wearing jackets because the thermostat said 66 degrees, and it's 30° outside. A couple people left after being seated around us and we saw another couple leave that stood by the front door waiting to be seated after 10 minutes. And it wasn't busy. It was a Monday morning. After such a horrible experience, I looked up some reviews and a picture of the pancakes were on a review page and that's exactly what our pancakes look like or worse, and she even said that she complained to management and they didn't care so we just paid and left . When I say limited, I mean I almost got hit just trying to leave the parking lot. Not the best setup. Service: Our server was friendly, but she disappeared a few times and didn't seem very knowledgeable about the menu. She even admitted she wasn't new, which made it a little surprising. Food: Once we finally got our food, everything was pretty good overall. ABE Bloody Mary Omelette - Perfect way to start the day. Seasonal Lemon Blueberry Goat Cheese Pancakes - I was hoping for more goat cheese, but the flavors still worked well. Nashville Hot Chicken Biscuit Sandwich with a side of City Grits - The sandwich was solid, but I probably won't order the grits again. Chicken & Waffles with a side of Louisiana Gumbo - The gumbo was more like jambalaya. As someone with Louisiana roots, I'm skeptical when something is called "gumbo" but doesn't present itself as such. Spiked Caramel Cold Brew (seasonal) - Had to get an extra shot of Kahlua in it, and no regrets there! The kids' menu seemed pricier than I expected, but the total bill came to around $70, which wasn't terrible considering everything we ordered. Overall: This is one of those locations I'd probably visit more often if I lived in one of the nearby high-rises or was meeting friends and planned to Uber. As it stands, it's a decent spot but not one I'd go out of my way for.
