The Food Shoppe is, hands down, the best restaurant experience I've had in Atlanta! The food was absolutely delicious, the portions were huge, and the prices were incredible--especially for a restaurant in downtown Atlanta. I ordered the red beans and rice, and they were smoky, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. You can choose your protein, and I highly recommend the authentic andouille sausage. It added the perfect flavor and really made the dish stand out. My boyfriend ordered the jambalaya, and even though he's pretty picky--especially when it comes to shrimp--he was seriously impressed. He absolutely hates overcooked shrimp, but he said the shrimp were cooked perfectly. He ate every single bite! The portions are generous and incredibly filling, and the quality of the food is outstanding. I went to The Food Shoppe for breakfast and this was easily one of the better breakfasts I had while in Atlanta. The only reason I can't give them the full 5 stars is because they were out of bacon when I went. I ended up getting the egg, ham, and cheese croissant with potatoes, and it was SO good. The croissant had a slight sweetness to it that tasted like there may have been a little syrup added, and I loved it. The sweet and savory combination with the ham, egg, and cheese worked really well. The potatoes were good too, and between those and the croissant, the meal was surprisingly filling. Salty. Straight up salt. Seasoning salt. Garlic salt. Dead sea scrub. Lawry's. SALT. I don't know why [my] people continue to think that sodium = flavor... I didn't get any Creole vibes from this meal at all. This tasted like your typical Atlanta carryout-leaning cuisine. Ambiance matches said cuisine. There are five tables and randomly placed seating that are not bussed by staff. Meals come in to-go containers. Everything has that sort of film to it that you feel more than see, probably due to an unserviced grease filter. There was a homeless man that was making a mess of the place and that went unaddressed.... oh okay. We kindly waited for our order to be freshly prepared (20ish min) and left promptly after receiving it. I genuinely wanted to enjoy this meal so bad. It was my first meal of the day, which normally makes you a little delusional and most things taste amazing when you're hungry enough. Nope, this still didn't cut it. We ended up getting multiple dishes to sample and have over two days. The best thing we ate was the shrimp po'boy. Not salty at all surprisingly. The shrimp does come fried although I'm sure you can ask for grilled shrimp instead. It had great texture and good flavor, but it certainly didn't wow me or taste particularly Louisiana-adjacent. You're able to get a half/half side for no up-charge; we did fries and mac n cheese. And you guessed it, folks... SALTY af. The sides had great texture and were prepared well, but all that saltiness absolutely kills it. Sigh. We also got the shrimp and grits as well as the chicken mac. Very, very cheesy. Too cheesy for me. But the grits (which I was craving the most) had a great consistency and I wish I could have ordered it by itself without the sodium-laden shrimp. God, it was so salty. Truthfully there was no flavor difference between these two dishes. It seems like whoever's cooking is using the exact same spice concoction for a lot of this stuff, which is disappointing and unfortunate. Salt HAS to be the first ingredient. Any underlying (emphasis on underlying) cajun spice tasted like paprika because the salt completely dominated the flavor profile of all of these dishes. Again, these were prepared well. The chicken in the mac was tender and had a melt-in-your-mouth quality! The shrimp was cooked to perfection. But they were simply seasoned horribly. The only reason I'd return is for the desserts. The chocolate cake doesn't get points for presentation, but definitely deserves a round of applause for moisture and flavor. Very, very yummy and decadent. This palate-cleanser was a must-have after being inundated with sodium from what we could stomach of the meal. I need to try the bread pudding one of these days. The pleasant young lady working the register this day also makes the return for that bread pudding much more feasible. Overall my visit to the Food Shoppe was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. The food was very flavorful and the owner was really helpful at offering recommendations when I was in between menu options. I highly recommend getting the strawberry cake if you stop by. The space is a comfortable small-to-medium setup with decent indoor seating and a few tables outside if you want to people-watch. I ordered the Jambalaya - NOLA-style mixed rice loaded with chicken, sausage, and shrimp. As a Nigerian, my standards for seasoned rice are naturally sky-high, but this was flawless. This restaurant had some of the best jambalaya! This small, mom and pop shop was so incredibly tasty. I was visiting from out of town and was craving some soul food and boy did this live up to the standards. I got the jambalaya, red beans with sausage & rice, and the voodoo chicken & Mac. Everything was so incredibly affordable with portion sizes that exceeded my expectations. I had left overs for days and I got the small sizes of everything! My favorite dish was definitely the jambalaya. The jambalaya was great for tasting all the meats. The Mac n cheese was so cheesy and fresh. My favorite meat however was definitely the sausage, however all the plates had some version with sausage. The employees were so kind and helpful and had great southern hospitality. The food was made fresh and took less than 10 minutes to make. If I'm ever back in the Atlanta area, I will be coming here again. Also great location in terms of downtown. If there's one thing this place doesn't lack it's FLAVOR. I ordered the Pasta Yaya which is a creamy pasta that traditionally comes with sausage and shrimp. However, I chose to opt out of the sausage and substitute it with chicken instead. I also ordered their banana bread pudding and a strawberry Fanta to go. All of this for approximately $27. By the time I got back to my hotel the food was still nice and hot. First thing I dug into was the pasta and as I stated before, it was full of flavor. In fact I would deem it a little too seasoned. I don't even want to know the amount of sodium that is in that pasta. Unfortunately, the pasta wasn't for me. However, that banana bread pudding is to die for, it is delicious. It had this amazing caramelized syrup drizzled all over it, it was hot, it was sweet but not overbearing. An easy 10/10! The lady who rung me up was sweet and listed the most popular items on the menu. Even though the pasta wasn't for me, I wouldn't mind coming back and trying their other items like the jambalaya. A small restaurant with two tables for around eight people and several spots with counter stools. Luckily for my group, there was no one sitting at the tables, as there were seven of us. The service is very friendly, which adds to its charm. The food is fine, but it is not the best jambalaya I've tasted. I tried my friend's banana pudding, and that was quite good. I recommend getting that for dessert. I saw several people order the po'boy, which looked good. I would consider trying that. They also sell Zapp's chips - I love the plain chips and can't find them where I live, so I bought several bags here. Came by for a quick dinner before a Hawks game on a Tuesday night. Not busy but had a few other folks getting take out. Note that all items are packaged in take out form. Not much seating inside. Super friendly staff. Ordered the lobster bisque, pasta yaya, and jambalaya. The jambalaya was AMAZING. Great textures, full of flavor, tender chicken, shrimp, and sausage. I would get it again. The pasta was also good, but the lobster bisque essentially had the same flavor so I wish we didn't get the bisque - there was no lobster in it either, just shrimp. Every single thing I've had for lunch/dinner has been awesome, though I wasn't a huge fan of the breakfast. It's pretty small in there and can get hot, so keep that in mind. Wait times can vary depending on how busy they are (and they're usually pretty busy because of how good their food is), so we usually call our order in for takeout when we're in the area. Unfortunately, the service behind the counter was painfully slow when we visited. There were only two people ahead of us in line, but it took nearly twenty minutes just to get our orders boxed up. Food Shoppe is a simple spot to go when you want genuine New Orleans cuisine. There's seating inside but it's a little tight and not that suited for a party bigger than 4; you'd want to order to go. Because it's made to order, there can be a bit of a wait but it's well worth the experience. Honestly for any travelers staying at the Omni or the nearby hotels, this is walkable and worthwhile. Most recently I got their voodoo jambalaya. It's jambalaya with BBQ sauce. I actually took someone from Louisana from there who found the food authentic and delicious. As for dessert, get the Angie's bread pudding. You'll thank me later after you've woken up from your food coma. The carmel sauce is made in house. Basically, if you're going to feel guilty eating dessert you may as well go all out. I am so glad I got to try The Food Shoppe! This is what I want my Creole/soul food to taste like!! I tried the Gumbo, VOODOO Jambalaya, Creole Potatoes, and Angie's Bread Pudding! All of them were HITS! The Gumbo and Jambalaya were very flavorful, and were served in big portions (lasted me a solid lunch and even dinner after). The food was made to order, so my food came out HOT! The Creole potatoes were so cheesy and well cooked, it was perfect as a shareable side! The star of the show for me was definitely Angie's Bread Pudding! It was to die for! Perfectly sweet, and nice texture that melted in your mouth with each bite! I would say the bread pudding is a MUST try. The space itself was fairly small, so there was very limited inside/outside seating. I came around noon, during a conference so it was packed, which made my food take some time. No complaints though, as once I got the food, all I could think about was filling my belly with it! I had the shrimp and grits and the red beans and rice with sausage. (Sausage was an add-on.) The grits were creamy, but less shrimp flavor than I was hoping for--and less shrimp. Only five, but well cooked. The sausage I had with the red beans wasn't the typical andouille, but Georgia Boy the staff said. It was good, with a smoother texture, but I missed the flavor and chew of andouille. Wanted to try the bread pudding, but I was too full. On that note, I wished they had a combo plate, but they don't, so the meal can be rather one-note if you're by yourself. If I came back, I'd come with a group and share.
