The only way I can describe the food is greasy. The fries were over saturated with grease, the fry portion was large but inconsistent (Some soggy, some not) Burger was okay, it's so big & greasey it made it hard to eat. I was so excited to come back here after not having been since Covid started! I've been to this place dozens of times over the past 5 years and always enjoyed the experience. I couldn't wait to have a French dip, play fun bar games, and talk to the friendly staff. I could not have been more disappointed. This business is making some really bad business decisions right now. Why? Covid restrictions have been lifted, yet you still have to order and pick up your food outside. Everything is so confusing. We had to explain the process to several new groups walking up. You can go inside to wait but there's no table service. Another bad decision - the food quality isn't the same - I always get the French Dip...used to be great, now it's a small helping of beef on a cheap white roll. The fries were nothing but tiny little pieces. Everything is served "to go" with cheap plastic utensils and 1-ply napkins. Dack Shack used to be a warm, welcoming, fun place to go. Sounds like everyone else had a great time here and I wish my first, only, and last experience was a bit better. There was a 20 minute wait to be seated for lunch so my friend and I waited at the bar and figured we could warm up with a cocktail. Bartender seemed friendly at first but didn't like having to remake my drink after she made the executive decision to put whipped cream on my apple cider. It's 2017, a ton of people are dairy free, ask next time! And after you make a mistake don't give the customer attitude about having to remake it. No I don't want you to remove the whipped cream nor do I need an attitude, just the warm, strong drink I asked for in the first place. Ps I've been lactose intolerant for 13 years. Third time's the charm. After giving the Dack Shack three tries over the last six months I have to finally write a review. This last visit was a low point in my life. After being seated, none of the waitstaff could be bothered to take our drink order - and when our waitress finally pulled herself away from hanging out with friends, she half heartedly took our order, which she proceeded to not write down, and completely butchered. Our drinks were never delivered, and then when we asked for the bill, we're informed that she had given our bill to another table, and she seriously asked if we would just pay their bill instead, and laughed about it. The complete lack of professionalism, malaise, and unwelcoming attitude of the entire staff ensured that even as locals - we'll never return to the Dak Shack. read more

Dack burger was really good, but I did not like having to pay $1 per sauce to go with the basket of fries. I mean, the sauces are great, but it doubled the cost of fries, which don't come with the burgers. Jalapeño corn cheddar fritters are really yummy. The serving staff needs more education on beer, though. I asked for a recommendation for one type of beer, and got a beer I hated. I drank it, because I paid for it, but I wasn't happy. The pickle garnish looked awesome, but, wow! REALLY vinegary. I love pickles - I mean LOVE pickles - but it was nearly inedible. So good!! Went there with the intention of not ordering too much, but we couldn't decide what to order so we went a bit overboard. Totally worth it :) We first ordered some drinks; the bee sting and the mule with whisky instead of vodka... so delicious! We continued on to order the chowder, crab cakes, fish and chips and the lobster roll. ALL sooo delicious! Crab cakes came with a bit of mango salsa & guac, it all really went well together. Walking into the Dack Shack you are immediately greeted and offered several options to sit at the bar open tables or in a booth. Since I was a solo and early for lunch I ended up in a booth and was attended to by a very pleasant and informative waitress. This was my burger crawl and ordered a Dack Burger Med-Rare with "crispy Fries". Grabbed a Forest Fire Bloody Mary which was hot spicy and a perfect 5/5. My plate arrived nicely presented 5/5, with a fresh, soft, shinny bun which could've been easily a Martins but did not ask 5/5, flavor profile lacked a little more seasoning and the meat was a bit too lean which minimized the juicy ness and flavor but still solid at 4/5, happy with med-rare presentation at 5/5, as for the " crispy fries" no matter how one orders them " burnt, crispy, well done " the kitchen never seems to get that and unfortunately they came to the table under cooked for this patron 3/5 they were good but could've been better with the ritual SNAP! I finished off the meal with a mini chocolate pie and a cap which was yummy! The whole lunch burger experience was a solid 4/5 and I will return as you should try to stop by yourself, menu was diverse and will please most palates young and old, nice bar scene and plenty of parking. Very clean and had comfortable seating. Staff very friendly and accommodating go it's worth the effort! Delicious food! This was not our first choice but it was one of the only places open that had online ordering and wasn't too far away from where we were staying in Wilmington. Prime rib French dip and chicken gyro were standouts. We also loved the poutine and the clam chowder. Definitely would order again. read more

Went twice with my family while in Lake Placid, once for dinner and once for lunch. I will definitely order the lobster grilled cheese EVERY time from now on, it was amazing! Chunks of fresh lobster, easy to eat and not too greasy with cheese. We started with the buffalo chicken dip which was really good, it's not a huge portion and served in a baguette which was soft and fresh. The kids all got the French toast at lunch which they liked and my husband enjoyed the French dip, good fries too. Definitely more of a family joint, lots of kids. Super cute Adirondack-themed interior. The menu had lots of options I was interested in, mostly focusing on American/BBQ-type fare which seemed to be pretty typical for the area. I ordered the Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich had a great amount of lobster meat and cheese, as well as avocado. I really enjoyed it. I chose the maple vinaigrette for my salad dressing and it didn't disappoint. We had poutine for the table as the appetizer and it was a heaping pile of fries with gravy and cheese curds. A great size and full of flavor. Stopped by while in town for the IronMan. Food was outstanding!!! Poutine, Poke Bowl and French dip is what we ordered, and all were outstanding. The French Dip was incredible, with the roll so delicate and lightly toasted, allowing you to enjoy with beef/cheese/beef jus combination of flavors!!!! Poke bowl was bigger than you would think, with hand made tortilla chips- DELISH! We did not really need the Poutine, but when Poutine is available, why not. Came in for the first time since COVID and was delighted to find the same friendly bartender, the same red plaid-covered comfy seats and the same birch tree artwork and detailing. Saw some pretty lousy reviews of this place, but my brother in law gave me a good review in person so I went here to satiate my raging hangover. We ordered burgers all around with the large basket of fries. Everything was good and cooked just right. The rolls were toasted very well and mentioned twice by my companions. Food was good, Caesar salad was terrific. Crab cake was meaty and the burger was a hit with Husband. Good beer. Lunch wait on Wednesday was hectic and they were severely understaffed it seemed. Took a long time for everything (seating, order, drinks, food, etc) and we were even feeling fairly patient while people watching with our beer, lol. Out of soup, no big deal but didn't know until food was almost ready and then it was on our bill (again, no real big deal as they took it off when I asked). This place mostly has burgers (also very good) and hotdogs, and a few sandwiches - but it's pretty good for what it is. The fries are also really good! This place was my favorite restaurant during my visit to Lake Placid! The menu is incredible with many options to cater to palettes of all kinds, and even has some interesting cocktails and beers. Due to Covid, we had to wait outside for our food and the lady behind the counter was beyond kind and super concerned for us being warm and immediately came outside to turn on a big heater! I got Cajun dry rub wings which were incredible, and they offer SO many different dips for free! I went with the herbed dip, which was a tad too lemoney for me but still good! We came for Sunday morning breakfast/brunch at 11. Unfortunately, they stop serving breakfast at 11. The staff was incredibly nice and perhaps due to the sad faces of our breakfast crew, snuck in one last breakfast order! The food was wonderful! All freshly prepared with homemade hash browns (the shredded kind) and bread for toast. The star of the show was our son's banana Nutella French toast, but everything was delicious. I visit Lake Placid twice a year and usually dine at the restaurants on Main St - never found one that I especially liked. The Dack Shack was recommended by a local. It's about a mile out of town but i gave it try and so glad I did.
