We ordered takeout from the Dack Shack via their online system. The food was ready when promised and the pickup was very easy. That being said, the food was average at best. The fries and onion rings were super soggy and the chicken fingers were bland. The worst part was the milkshakes which were insanely expensive and little more than tepid milk with some stuff mixed in. Where's the heat? The meat was delicious, but couldn't quite find the heat! The reuben was made with chunks of tender, thickly sliced corned beef (instead of deli-sliced slices like normally served). Came in for the 2 for 1 burger night with my boyfriend and our 2 friends. We sat at the bar and were greeted and served drinks right away. They have a great selection of all different kinds of beers. Our bartender was attentive and friendly. The burgers were also huge and flavorful! Fries seemed fresh and were also good. Everyone was happy with their food. At one point the restaurant did become very full and I don't think the employees were prepared for it, heard a little bit of bickering between an employee and customer which was a little embarrassing to watch. I understand being overwhelmed though. But honestly it didn't hinder our experience much other than feeling slightly uncomfortable. Food was fantastic! We stopped in not once, but twice while on vacation - the fried fish and fish tacos were definitely the best items on the menu! First of all, the food was EXCELLENT. We had the braised pork shanks and it's probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. But DINER BEWARE- we ordered sodas with our meal. I even asked the waitress if kids meals included and drink (before I told my kids yes to sodas) and she said yes. We ended up being charged $19 for drinks AND REFILLS. Refills are NOT FREE. I cannot remember the last time I ate somewhere and was charged for soda refills. I feel like she should have told us that when we asked for refills since it's clearly not common. When I call back and said I'm the guy who called half an hour ago can I place that order the lady goes nope, we're not taking any orders we're too busy. I was unpleasantly surprised how disgusting the food was with a $70 price point. I asked for a well done filet dinner and a bourbon bbq chicken sandwich to go. This was by far the best food we had in our week in Lake Placid. Great burger, crispy fries, awesome lobster roll and delicious clam chowder! There are picnic tables outside to sit. A+ for pandemic take out service. an easy order online - they text you when it's ready and you pick it up from a table. no waiting, no talking to anyone. plus ample parking - that really makes it super easy and convenient. as an FYI - they do not put any napkins, ketchup, or utensils in (which is great for the environment! but if you need napkins or ketchup or utensils...it can be problematic if you don't know you have to ask for them). we weren't as wowed by the food. let me start with the good - the clam chowder was really excellent! like 10/10 good. and you can tell it's homemade and made with love. I'm already craving another bowl. really good job! the fries were also spot on. the heartbreaker --- yes, I ordered a lobster roll from a place not known for lobsters. I get it. and I'm sad to report it was not great. they say it comes with aioli - which I thought rendered the lobster inedible. way too funky a taste (for my taste anyway) for lobster. it overpowered it and tasted weird. plus there was a lot of lettuce in the lobster roll (my lobster roll-loving self thought that was a bit blasphemous to put lettuce on a LR). also the bun is too large for the amount of lobster they're serving. the lobster should be the star...instead it's all bread and lettuce and aioli. blech! fish tacos - the fish was overcooked, so it tasted really dry. also do not charge $4 for a condiment size cup of guac. yikes!!! I could see this being a good dish if prepared a little better. falafel salad - I'm pretty sure they forgot to pop the falafel balls in the fryer. if not, then they don't understand what falafel is...it was a good flavor, but a soft, pasty, gummy uncooked texture. we pretty much chucked that one in the garbage, sorry to say. overall - I think you have to figure out what to order here and stick with that. you can tell it's a quality place with good ingredients, etc...but with some misses. read more

This is a COVID era review because I cannot seem to find any current reviews. Consider this my community service because nothing blows more than being amped to try out a restaurant to find out they are now closed. This place has a website where you can view their updated menu in response to corona. You can order online and plan to have it ready right away or at a later hour. We tried the mahi-mahi tacos, fish and chips, prime rib sandwich and clam chowder. Everything was excellent. It had been a while since I had had a good New England Clam Chowder. And it is enough to split as a starter between two people. On its own with some crusty bread it would be a meal if you wanted it all for yourself. The portion of fish for the fish and chips was absurd. It was HUGE. Prime rib sandwich was great and if you hate mayo like me, I didn't even notice it in my sandwich. I had heard mixed reviews, so I wasn't sure what to expect from the 'Dack Shack. But I was pleasantly surprised by the menu options and atmosphere. To be honest, the deciding factor in coming here was location. Trisha G. and I were staying at the hotel next door on our weekend hiking adventure to the High Peaks region... and after a 10 hour hike through the wind, fog, and rain, we had limited energy to scope out most of the town. But you know, this ended up being the perfect spot. It wasn't overly crowded later in the evening (though there were plenty of patrons), and they had a wide choice of beverages to celebrate our hard work (I went with a ginger cider that hit the spot). The atmosphere was quirky, Adirondack chic. That's a style I think I just made up... but it worked!! I really liked the hardwood tables - quite beautiful actually. To accompany my cider, I decided on the udon noodle bowl with chicken. It came in a awesome fun shaped bowl, and was filled with noodles, fresh veggies, and a coconut curry sauce that I really enjoyed. I managed to thoroughly stuff myself, and hadn't any room for dessert, but the dessert case was filled with delicious looking goodies I could have devoured given the stomach space. I'm sure I'll be back in Lake Placid again to take another crack at Mt. Marcy, and I wouldn't be surprised if I returned to the 'Dack Shack! Stop in and check it out! read more

For how expensive it is you would think the food would be phenomenal. But for $22 buffalo Mac and cheese was total crap. Soupy Mac and cheese and barely any buffalo chicken( which was $8). It was so good! I had a burger it was really good juicy and perfect. The crab cake sandwich was amazing so good week seasoned. I haven't had crab cake that good in years in the Chesapeake Bay area. The biggest surprise was how good the drinks were. I had the Old Fashion with bacon which was amazing and could get the drinks to go as well. Great, creative food and amazing staff. My husband and I had dinner tonight at the dack shack. The biggest problem is deciding what cocktail and dinner to chose. There are so many amazing choices. I had the the Udon Noodle bowl with vegetables and grilled chicken in a Thai sauce. The flavors were incredible. My husband had the chicken pot pie which was served in a bowl .. pot pie filling topped with a puff pastry .. delicious. We splurge and split the German chocolate cheesecake. .
