In one of the brief warm spots between cold fronts that we had during February, I noticed that my car's air conditioning was no longer pushing out cold air. Sad days, though I had had some issues with it about a year prior, so not necessarily unexpected. I have been to Dad's before, and they had done good work on my brakes for the car, so I figured it was reasonable that this would be a good one for them as well. I was able to set up an appointment just a couple of days later, and brought the car in there. No issues on getting it checked in, and they worked on it that morning. Sadly, they were not able to find the leak in the system. I was going to have to take it to a specialist. However, they also did not charge me for the diagnosis, which was very nice of them! In the future you can bet that I am going to be going to Dad's for work on my vehicles, because they are an upstanding group that know how to treat customers. read more

Very thorough! Had a leaking power steering pump. Fluid had sprayed out all over the engine compartment. They quickly diagnosed the problem . Beat the repair estimate of a National auto repair chain, with six locations in Gainesville, by over $100 by eliminating an unnecessary part. When my car was returned the engine compartment was completely cleaned making it look factory new. Prompt, reliable! read more

HORRIBLE Auto Mechanics! Joshua D Martin and Michael D Martin Jr. are dishonest, unethical low life's. Brought my vehicle in for a simple radiator and fan replacement. They said I needed a new battery too, so I brought them a brand new Interstate battery. They installed the battery, but did NOT do a simple DC test that would have told them the alternator wasn't charging the battery. So they said the vehicle was fixed, I paid them and 10 minutes down 39th Ave my vehicle dies in the middle of the road. I called their tow truck to have it towed back and then was informed by them that somehow this was my fault and I had to pay a $200 tow bill. Then they said they were going to charge $1000 for storage fees. Also, witnessed their controlling, abusive behavior as Josh gaslighted his niece (Mike's daughter) who works there too. In my opinion, this is the car repair center from Hell! Took the vehicle in at the beginning of January. Today is February 10. Still not done. The reason for the delay keeps changing; even during our conversation. It was supposedly getting "prepped" for painting yesterday (Thursday, February 9) and would be done late yesterday or today. Now I'm told it is getting "prepped" today (Friday) and will be painted either this afternoon or Monday. In addition to a run-around and delay tactics, I am getting technical jargon about the procedure to repair a vehicle. I guess if you can't dazzle with brilliance, you can baffle with BS. If you want a long delay, run around, continuous excesses, and to learn how cars are repaired, this is the place. Buyer beware! read more

Found this goldmine using this, Yelp!! I had to get our son's Jeep basically repaired over the phone due to us living 2 hours away from our son going to college there!! Had to make a few phone calls to work out the logistics on getting his vehicle to them. Once we got it there, the communication was super!! They let me know what was wrong,fixed it and did not find " anything else wrong" while there. They simply fixed it. Prices were fantastic,not overpriced,nor inflated due to our situation!! My brother told me about this place in case i had any car problems and this place was amazing. They were so incredibly nice and welcoming and were able to get me an estimate and start working on my car within the hour. My bill even ended up being less than the original estimate. I brought my 2000 Lexus es300 to Dad's Auto Repair for an alternator replacement. This mechanic shop replaced my alternator fast. And also, when I called to get a quote on the repair, they immediately gave me an answer that was way better than other repair shops I called. The final bill was even less than the estimate, which as a student is awesome! The customer service was great and very polite. Highly recommend. Terrible service. Do not go here. They refused to refund me for an issue that we fixed in under 5 minutes after they "fixed" the wrong thing. They would not admit fault and even though we were very thorough in explaining what happened and that we felt taken advantage of, they refused to give us our money back. $240 (and my whole afternoon wasted) to put in a hose that didn't need to be replaced all because they didn't troubleshoot the problem correctly. TERRIBLE!! I would NOT go here. They ripped me off. Story below. A friend of mine removed my power steering reservoir to access another part easier. When he put it back I noticed my power steering fluid had leaked out and there was a loud noise like air was getting into the system. I called my friend who is a few hours away and he said he forgot to put the o-ring back on the hose connected to the reservoir. I was busy all week and sent my boyfriend with my car to a local shop to have them put the o ring on since I didn't know what size or what o ring was missing. My BF brought the car to DADs AUTO and explained what our friend had said. They then told him they would need to replace the entire line next to the reservoir and since my bf doesn't know anything about cars whatsoever, agreed to the repair. The mechanic then dropped the car off to my bf. when he came to pick me up he noticed the noise was still there. When I got in the car I asked why was the noise still there if it had been fixed and how did it go from an o ring needing to be replaced to an entire line? It was the weekend and we had plans out of town so I decided we would go back to DADs the next week. I left my car parked for the couple days and when we returned... wow... all the steering fluid had leaked out again. We drove the car back to Dads and asked what they fixed because it had leaked out again so obviously the issue wasn't fixed. They said the entire pump may have to be replaced. There never was any issue with the pump or line and the directions from my friend were that it needed the o ring on the hose. This is when I took matters into my own hands and started reaching around the reservoir. I reached underneath and felt a hose. I asked "what is this hose?" The mechanic replied "that's the return hose". I slid my hand down the hose and it was soaked with power steering fluid. I said "THATS where it's leaking!" Showing him my grease soaked hand. He directed me to the back to wash my hands while he took a look at it. About 10 minutes later he drove my car back to the front. The sound was gone. I felt to where the hose connected underneath at the return hose and low and behold there is now a metal o ring clamp!!!! All it needed was a hose clamp which apparently was slid down on the hose and just needed to be moved up and secured. If they even looked at this hose they would have seen that was the issue. I'm imagining they merely guessed what the issue could be and replaced a line that didn't need replacing. They charged my boyfriend $238 to change a line and not even fix the issue which was told to them with clear instructions. It needed an o ring on the hose connecting to the reservoir. I wish I was there from the beginning because I wouldn't have agreed to the repair but my boyfriend was only trying to help and get my wheel turning properly again. To the mechanics at dads auto... you should be ashamed of yourselves for not issuing him a refund and an apology!!! After contacting the shop and asking to speak with an owner we were dismissed. The mechanic who worked on the car couldn't tell me why the loud noise was still there after he dropped the car off and why it continued to leak if he fixed the issue. He only said it must have sprung another leak and he fixed the second leak for free and goodbye! UNREAL! I wouldn't give these people any business. Completely took advantage of and disrespected me and ripped off my boyfriend. read more

Disaster struck on my road trip. I was traveling long distance (from Miami to Charlotte) driving thru Gainesville and my A/C went out. This shop was sweet as pie, sensed my desperation (I called 12 shops before them without success!) and was kind enough to assist me only an hour before closing on a Friday. They provided expert advice and service- I was in and out within 45 mins. I can't express how much I appreciate their willingness to help when ALL other local spots refused.
