I am visiting Chicago from CA, and to me, this place was just pretty okay. My mom and I got the gold package, pork combo three but had to get an additional pork belly because the combo portions were sooo small. We were honestly shocked because we thought it was supposed to feed up to 2 people, but barely could fill up 1 person. In addition, the soybean paste stew was pretty bland... I am not sure if i'm just biased because I am korean and had so many, but it tasted like water. I was also shocked that they charge for a refill on salad and banchan as this is the first time I had ever been charged. This place was definitely also pretty pricy, we paid about 150 for 2 people (including tip & tax) The reason why I am still giving the place 4 stars because the service was really good (our server was super sweet and accommodating) and the meat quality was pretty solid. The marinade on the pork was delicious and the meat was tender. The restaurant also had a nice concept.

I've been to the Chinatown location and like this location is significantly more. The service is better, it's not crammed inside, and it's not smoky! I love a KBBQ that cooks for you. Honestly, so perfect for a girls night out that we don't have to cook ourselves. Ted was our server and he gave really great and attentive service!

I love this kbbq spot. Maybe I'm lazy but I freaking love that the servers cook the meat for you- no guessing, no worrying about overcooking the meat, just pure vibes. The banchan are delicious and honestly it's a pretty good deal! The interior is cute and clean and they're playing k-pop on the TVs of course. Something that I really love is that they remember my little friend I bring here when I'm babysitting him. They always give him extra fish cakes and eggs because he loves them so much! NEIGHBORHOOD GEMM!!!

Heck of a meal! Service was excellent, they were very accommodating and we ate almost instantly!

Came here with a group of 5 for a friend's birthday dinner. One of said friends had lived in South Korea, so she got us to order the Daebak for the table and ran us through how to eat Korean BBQ. We all left entirely full and extremely satisfied. The drink options were really good too. I was very impressed with how much we got for what we paid at the end of the evening. Wish our staff was a bit more helpful in picking menu items. Too, it was a bit loud for us old farts in our 30s, but otherwise no complaints!

This was a fun KBBQ experience! It's a la carte, NOT all you can eat, but the quality is so much better than AYCE! The staff was super helpful explaining how the menu and ordering worked because it was definitely a little confusing. There are packages and tiers you can choose from, otherwise you can order completely a la carte but it's way more expensive. That said, there were two types of meat I really wanted and wasn't able to get so I had to sacrifice one. One fun thing is that the staff cooks for you, in front of you! So you can focus on eating and don't have to worry about burning anything or cooking it right. Super convenient!

I am Korean and this is not it. The food quality and quantity was lacking! You have been warned. The servers didn't smile one time. The ambience was nice! But other than that it was terrible. I would say probably the worst bbq I've ever had. Won't even call it Korean out of respect for my ancestors! lol

Honestly, I came here because it was one of the few Korean BBQ places that can seat over 15 people. I came here for a friend's birthday dinner. It was okay. Even splitting with 5 people, there was a good amount of leftovers. However, some of the other tables were still hungry after. I would only recommend this place if you have a large party, but there are other quality places in Chicago you can go for KBBQ.

I went here with my cousin last week for dinner. We had the Daebak Beef Combo, which was delicious. The server was really friendly and the ambiance was classy & laid back. It was a nice place for me & my cousin to catch up

Outrageous pricing decisions

Brought friends here after good experience and really got scammed by the portions. Ordered two large combos for 6 people. They brought one small thing of Kim chi and charged for each additional one. They even charged extra for rice even though it was just someone asking to receive their original rice. It's really sad they choose to do this. Likely won't return.

Daebak is the best kbbq in wicker park. Authentic Korean food, having tried everything from apps to meats. Service is attentive, despite the lack of bell.

beef combo 2, gold tier package

if you've had good kbbq before, do not go here. you will be so disappointed. this kbbq looks like baekjeong kbbq but it definitely does NOT taste like baekjeong. the meat was so meh and the quantity for a 4 people serving was not for 4 people. i've eaten at a lot of combo type kbbq places and this was bottom tier. the worker was cooking our meat as fast as humanely possible it felt like we had to race to eat the meat while it was at its prime. the cuts of meat did not look like the photos either. the boneless short rib photo looked like the usual marinated finger meat with a nice thickness but what we got was a bulgogi sized slices. usually these are grilled over a grill with big grates so the fire chars the meat and caramelizes the sugars from the marinade giving it that perfect *kiss* of flavor from the fire. this did not happen and the meat was DRY and had no char not even a sear! the banchan were also mid. the jalapeños were sliced into CHUNKS and the garlic was chopped into too small of pieces. these are supposed to be a perfect thinness to eat them raw with a ssam lettuce wrap. she threw them on the grill without asking which was okay i suppose since they were prepped poorly to eat as ssam but it was disappointing. the soup that we paid extra for that is included in the gold tier package was awful. it was supposed to be brisket soybean paste stew but it lacked seasoning and majority of the ingredients. it was literally water, zucchini, one slice of brisket broken into tiny pieces, onion, and bean paste. tasted like water and i wish i took a photo because it was comical how much zucchini they put in this thing!! it looked like zucchini stew because you couldn't see the onions or brisket unless you stirred the bottom and really searched. no tofu, no clams, no meat, no flavor i feel tricked! the menu photo looks nothing like what they gave us. for $160 after tip, i expected us to have a good cooking experience & be full. the full flavor of the marinade did not come through since it was cooked poorly. they cooked so fast as if they were trying to get us out as soon as possible. this place was a 2/10 in my book. my friend who doesn't eat kbbq often at all gave it a 6/10 because it tasted fine. but for the price, the way it didn't match the photos in the menu, the flavor was lacking, and altogether it was so misleading bc it appears to be a high end place but it just wasn't good. there weren't any korean people eating here and i should've heeded that sign. sad because we're visiting chicago for the weekend and there isn't great kbbq back in minneapolis so we made it a point to come here. very disappointed.

Nina Z.

This is my cousins favorite K-BBQ spot so naturally when we're in town we meet her here for a catch up dinner. All the food is delicious and so fresh as you can see it since it comes out raw for you to cook. Even the prepared food we ordered was just as good. It's no wonder this is my cousin's favorite spot. The staff even brought out a dessert for my husband as they heard it had recently passed so that was so kind since we didn't ask for it. Great vibes and food - couldn't ask or more!

This place was so good that I came back the very next evening for dinner again…read more On my first visit, I ordered the pulled pork with mac and cheese, cornbread, and sweet tea. Every single part of the meal was outstanding. The pulled pork was delicious on its own, but I also loved the sweet barbecue sauce. The cornbread was, without exaggeration, the best I've ever had!! It was moist, flavorful, and served with absolutely incredible butter. The mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and one of the best I've ever had as well. Even the sweet tea was perfect: actually sweet without being overpowering or having that bitter, earthy aftertaste that some sweet teas have. I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I came back the next night and tried the brisket. It was sooooo good too. It was tender, smoky, juicy, and packed with flavor. At that point I knew the first meal wasn't a fluke. It's not inexpensive, but the portions are generous, and I felt the quality more than justified the price. I was there by myself because I'm traveling for work and actually enjoyed the communal tables. They made the atmosphere feel welcoming and a little less lonely than sitting by myself. The staff was excellent, too. The gentleman with the glasses at the meat counter was friendly, funny, and made the experience even more enjoyable. He even threw in a complimentary rib, which was such a nice surprise and a great example of the hospitality here. One thing to know before you go: the line can get long, but don't let that scare you away, it moves efficiently, and the food is absolutely worth the wait. Green Street Smoked Meats lived up to every bit of the hype. Between two visits, I tried the pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese, cornbread, sweet tea, and a rib, and every single thing was excellent. This will be one of my first stops the next time I'm in Chicago.

We ordered the brisket, pulled pork, cornbread, macaroni salad, and green jambalaya. The pulled pork was the standout, with the brisket not far behind. It's not the best barbecue you'll ever have, but if you're craving good barbecue in Chicago, this is a spot worth visiting. The biggest surprise was the green jambalaya, essentially collard greens with smoked meat in a rich broth. I could have drank the whole thing like a can of Coke.

When I find myself thinking of a return trip while still there, you know for sure Offset BBQ delivers! I ordered the All Beef Platter, and got the Brisket Chili (upgrade) as my side. The sausage was fantastic! It had a snap which made all the Chicago Hot Dogs within a 20 mile radius jealous. Inside was a maximally savory, salty but not over-salted filling. The kind of meat that needs no sauce. Then comes the brisket! A lovely piece of meat that was so tender, looking at it and licking my lips caused the meat to start falling apart. I also loved that it was a good balance of meaty and fatty bits. However, there is a small 'but' here. For my taste, the brisket needed a very light sprinkle of salt. No matter, with the help of the sauces the brisket leveled up enough to take on any boss battle thrown at it. Speaking of sauces: The KC Style and Hawaiian were both good. Both were sweet, and had some tang, though, it seemed the KC had a slight edge in the bold department between the two. A sauce I loved though was the Chicago White, a fantastic Horseradish and Mustard sauce that was unique, interesting, savory, fresh, and a little spicy. The kind of sauce I want to buy a container of and take home! For my side, I upgraded to the bowl of brisket chili. I loved this so much, I may just order this as a main on a return visit. The chili did not at all skimp on the meat, which was tender and flavorful. The use of beans, corn, and veggies were there to help accent everything else, and were themselves cooked perfectly. Kudos also for the inclusion of a couple pickled jalapeno slices. My heat tolerance may be too high to feel a burn, but the crispness of acid did wonders! The included coleslaw was one thing I did not love. I appreciated that they were not heavy handed on the mayo, and the dressing overall was light in quantity and consistency. However, the cabbage was sliced as if by a sleep deprived stagiaire who has yet to master knife skills. The slicing was terribly inconsistent, with some pieces being way too large. For dessert, I ordered the Blueberry Handpie. This was so much better than expected! The crust was flaky and wonderful, and the filling had plentiful sweet blueberries. This dish also excelled in its execution. The cast iron pan kept the pie warm, and the ice cream was such that didn't melt right away. I also loved that the blueberries weren't screaming hot and exploding with lava. When it comes to the service, the bar-server was fantastic. She was kind, friendly, and attentive. Food came out pretty fast, too, considering how fresh everything was. Finally, while I did not make laps around the entire establishment, the vibe has just the right intersection between BBQ and Rock & Roll, with the music playing at the perfect volume to be appreciated while being not at all intrusive. Final verdict: There are many who sing the praises of Smoque BBQ, which is a great spot. However, between the two, I prefer Offset. Other than a sloppy-chopped Coleslaw, the experience was fantastic not only in the food, but in the execution and the thought put into the experience.

It won't knock your socks off, but it is nowhere close to "bad." It's perfect for what it is, that being: a spot for a bite during the lunch hour. On both visits, I ordered the two meat platter, with brisket and sausage. Both were flavorful and savory, with the brisket being balanced in terms of meaty vs fatty (as requested). Now, that said, the prices at Blackwood are on the high side. On the one hand, I know the price of a pound of ground beef is greater than the minimum wage (as of this writing). However, I also can't help but feel the punch to the wallet when two meats and one side, where one of those is brisket, and a soda comes to somewhere between $20-25 (I think it's close to $25, but don't want to misspeak). Half a pound of meat is not a lot, making the wallet punch even worse. Then there comes the service. Most of the folks working here are professional and welcome. There is this one person, though, whose level of gruffness seems a bit high. It wasn't so much a lack of pleasantries for the sake of efficiency as it was annoyance that customers exist? Final verdict: If you're working in the loop, and craving BBQ, Blackwood is a rock-solid spot, but the high prices mean it likely isn't practical for a regular spot. If it's a weekend, there are better options out there.

Whether I'm using Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online because it's so convenient. I also want to praise my delivery driver for arriving at a reasonable time with my order and meeting me right in front of my residence. Grateful to have had a smooth online ordering experience because the likelihood of me ordering online again is very high. As for my order, my first response after my first bite of the vegan sloppy joe was, "Mmm, that is good!" Yes, I pretty much devoured that vegan sloppy joe, leaving nothing behind but what was left on my fingertips. The last time I had a vegan sloppy Joe was a few years ago in celebration of my birthday, and trust me, it wasn't as good as this one at Soul & Smoke. It could easily be confused with real meat if you aren't aware that it is vegan. I saved the side order for last, which was that delicious-looking mac and cheese. Mmm... "Oh my God!" was my initial response after my first forkful, which was lightly seasoned with a delightful taste. I must say it was the perfect side for the vegan sloppy joe. After my last bites, I had the slightest grin on my face, and the only thing on my mind was that I will definitely have it again in the future. The sprecher soda - cherry cola was the perfect complement to my meal. Up until four years ago, I used to visit at least five or six times every single year. The person taking our order seemed to be in a massive hurry, acting short and dismissive with us. To make matters worse, an automatic gratuity was added to the bill. While I understand this is becoming a common industry practice, a gratuity should ultimately be an option based on service. The server did mention at the end that we could have it removed if we wanted to, but customers shouldn't be forced into that awkward position in the first place. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has also gone downhill. I always used to order the ribs and frequently took extra food home because it was so good. Last night, the food left a lot to be desired. The barbecue simply isn't what it once was.
