Hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had. The fries were also fantastic. Other than that I was not too impressed by the other things we got: flautas, bread, and Italian sub. With covid, no more biscuits, so reminded us that, for us, this place's strict adherence to "local" is too precious for us. Finding something to drink is a challenge. Día Due has been on my list for about two months after I saw it featured on the Seed Oil Scout app as a place that doesn't use seed oils and uses quality produce and meat. I came for brunch and decided to get the tallow-fried quail on a bed of mashed potatoes with collard greens, a biscuit and some country gravy. My girlfriend got the central Texas breakfast with the antelope sausage. Although many complain on the priciness, I think it's worth it based on the two many we ordered. I'm so torn on how I feel about this place after going back for a second try. The first time I came here I had a light lunch with the Flautas and sourdough with strawberry butter/cream. The Flautas were great, and came with a very flavorful broth. Had a great texture and flavor and I was happily surprised because I know they Don't consider themselves a place that specializes in Tex mex but I gave it a shot. On the other hand, the bread was underwhelming. It was really thick and not fluffy and light and really didn't taste like a traditional sourdough, it had more of a potato bread texture and flavor. Definitely not bad but it wasn't what I was expecting. The strawberry butter was so cold I couldn't even spread it on, and once I did it did not compliment the bread in my opinion. Yogurt-like flavor did not really impress me or make me want to put it on the bread. A week later, I gave it another shot because I had heard such great things about this place and thought maybe I could try different items and it would be better. The quail was delicious, and the boudain stuffing was great but that was really the only highlight for me. The antelope tartare was unique and definitely not bad but also underwhelming and not very flavorful, I've definitely had better tartare elsewhere for the same price. The pork chop was definitely over cooked. There were a few pieces on the end I couldn't even eat because the texture was like beef jerky. The sauces that came with it helped a lot because they were delicious and I had to douse the pork in it for it to taste good but the pork could not hold up on its own without it. The mango sorbet was another highlight and was a nice, light palate cleanser to end the meal. Another low point for me is the wine and drink selection. It's all Texas wines (which are traditionally not very good) and these were on the better end but still not great. I tried switching to a wine spritzer hoping it would be better but still didn't love it. Not being able to pair a good drink to compliment my meal is always disappointing. Overall, for the price and the hype I had heard about Dai Due, I don't think it was worth what I paid for but it wasn't outwardly bad. read more

We have loved Dai Due for many years. We brought family for brunch, and we were so disappointed. We paid $24 for two eggs, bacon (or sausage), grits, potatoes and a biscuit. per person. The biscuits - amazing. Next time we will only get those. It's the reason this is a two-star review and not a one-star. Potatoes - deep fried and over cooked. We were eating crunchy bits. Bacon - burned. How do you serve burnt bacon? Sausage - was like a smash burger: super crispy on the outside, raw inside. Eggs: again, how do you mess this up? 2 of the 3 in the party ordered over medium, they came out hard (no runny yolk at all!). The other order over easy and got over medium-hard. So we received sub-par food. Service? Our waitress finally came back about 20 minutes later after the food arrived to ask how everything was. Awful, and we mentioned the eggs. She came back 10 minutes later and offered to cook new ones. Uhhh....by that time we were just wanting the check. Next time we will take our out of town family to Waffle House: they serve the same things at a 1/3 of the price, and their quality is spot on. read more

Can't say Dai Due left a great impression for me but the experience was worth a try. I was intrigued by their in-house butcher shop and restaurant concept. The restaurant isn't too spacious but if you're looking for an dim lighting, intimate, casual dinner, then this is the place for you. Their menu is a one pager with a very limited selected entree menu (about 4-5 items) along with appetizers and a long list of drinks. I did come for the wagyu steak which I was disappointed they ran out. The food itself was adequate, definitely base on quality type of meat cuts with generous portions. Service was friendly and attentive, however parking can get very limited. There is only a few spots in the front and a small parking lot in the back. Dai Due is inconspicuously tucked into a little strip of shops, but upon walking in you feel transported by their decor and airy restaurant. This is a must visit if you love meat and creative dishes. The wild boar was one of our favorite dishes, it had a really crisp exterior but we could shred the inside of the confit dish with our forks. We also really enjoyed the venison ceviche, a truly unique Texan experience. We finished our meal with a goat cheese ice cream featuring a berry reduction-- overall a great meal with unique dishes. Dai Due is a 'supper club + butcher shop' that sells delicacies like picanha steak and 'Slab Molasses Bacon'! The French-style kitchen, complete with open shelving, leads back to a neat booth seating area. The food's unique and interesting - for example we started off with a cup of 'Tallow Coffee with Chile and Cinnamon'. Yes, that's melted beef tallow and spices in coffee...and it's not bad! The tallow cuts down the bitterness of the coffee and gives it a warm-broth like quality. Ordered two sandwiches done on in-house baked and grilled bread: a Ham & Cheese made with locally produced ham + an amazing aged Golden Cheddar. The other was a fried soft-shell crab po' boy served with mixed greens and a dill-tartar sauce. Amazingly good, right up there with the usual oyster po' boys. All in all, excellent and unique dishes in a beautifully quaint 'French Country Kitchen' atmosphere. I'll be back! Butcher shop in the front and fine (yet casual) dining restaurant in the back. The restaurant is beautiful and romantic. It's great for a girl's night but also a date. And even more perfect for a self proclaimed carnivore, like myself. Everything we ordered was delicious: wild boar, fish and chips, and the mezze platter. We also got a bottle of white wine. It was all reasonably priced and fantastic quality. The fish and chips is a weekday special (I think just Wednesday's) and it's soooo good. Be sure to get this if it's available! I decided to go somewhere great for my 500th Yelp review. Dai Due! A lovely place that I have for some reason neglected to review despite several visits. So delicious. Pro tip: come before 6:30 Tuesday -Thursday and some of the starters are discounted for happy hour plus drink specials ($5 local wines). We ordered the meat platter for $18 (normally $26) as an appetizer. Just wow. The house charcuterie is so skilled. Every meat was perfectly made, full of flavor, and very different from the other offerings on the platter. Great housemade pickles (beets and carrots) give a bite of something bright to cleanse your palate. I'm afraid I can't list them all the meats, bad memory. But you definitely should order the meat platter. For our main, we shared a wagyu ribeye, potatoes Caroline, with a cool cucumber watermelon salad. The meat was an existential experience. So beefy and tender. This is beef heaven. If you love beef, try the grass fed wagyu here. It's hard to go back to HEB steak after this. The salad was worth the trip alone. Fresh cucumbers (possibly pickeling cucumbers?) thinly sliced along with chunks of sweet ripe watermelon, decorated with roasted corn and thin wafers of salty Cotija cheese. This is summer on a plate. The potatoes are good but not great. They have a good crisp but I'm not crazy about the aioli or whatever the sauce was. This dish didn't really do anything for me, but it's not bad and it's prepared well, but I just didn't get into it. For dessert (save room for dessert!) we had blackberry sorbet and pecan cake. I really wanted to share one dessert but I couldn't decide so we got two. The sorbet came with a scoop of soft flowery blackberry and a more solid scoop of what can only be described as the ultimate essence of mango. These are very fine sorbets. The pecan cake was delicious but I honestly couldn't tell you what the predominant flavors were. There's a really nice bruleed fruit on top and a tender and slightly dry interior which is easily corrected with the creme anglais augmenting the dish. Verdict: an Austin classic and a must-do restaurant when visiting the city. Save room for dessert. read more

Visiting from Denver and we had brunch at Dai Due. We ate here last time we visited, 10 years ago, and both times the food and service were exceptional. This visit we had the tallow fried pork flautas served in a perfectly seasoned and unbelievably flavorful broth. Next we shared the antelope lettuce wraps. Amazing. Again, perfectly seasoned. The antelope and vegetables were richly flavored, which contrasted against the bright, herby, crunchy accoutrements. The sauces were a standout - wild game caramel and fermented hot sauce. We ended with a biscuit with butter and apple butter. This was the best biscuit I've ever had. I shmeared wild game caramel and apple butter on it. My goodness. Not one bite of this meal was less than perfection. One of the most memorable restaurants I've eaten at. read more

Firstly, this is a simply fantastic restaurant, so I've given it a bonus star because it's worth going to regardless; however, there are only 2 spin-able Pokéstops from the dining area. They get some credit for Dai Due itself being a stop. No gyms are available, which hurts their score, but there is a whole slew of other stops and gyms near-by, all along a very walkable street. So take an after dinner stroll to work off the way too much food you should eat there and get those extra spins in. read more

We went to celebrate with a colleague (so three of us). I'd say that's probably the only reason to come occasionally- it was very pricey and in some ways just OK food. The service was fine. We ordered the grilled oysters for appetizer - they were the smallest oysters I've ever seen. I'm surprised the chef served them frankly. The sour dough appetizer was over toasted bread that was pretty difficult to cut through the crust. The fish (grouper) and chips were quite good but at $33 at least twice as much as we'd just had several places in Europe. The grilled quail looked good and I am told was spicy. I had nice French onion soup and a salad. The wine was fairly good but really expensive (triple what we paid for bottles of wine in Europe). All told with tip, $360. For a Wednesday evening dinner among friends. Won't be back anytime soon. read more
