New ramen place in the South Bay, so today we decided to check it out. Inside, the restaurant kept the narrow yokocho (alleyway) layout of the previous izakaya, and is spacious enough for 60+ guests. Upon arrival, the host seated us right away, and the staff quickly brought water and menus. The menu was quite simple, and we picked two combos: the Daikoku Ramen with Small Fried Rice, and the second combo with Chicken Karaage Egg Bowl. Daikoku Ramen: the broth was light but flavorful. The noodles were pleasantly al dente. The chashu slices were super tender. The egg was nicely runny. Chopped green onions, sliced bamboo shoots, and bean sprouts complemented the dish well. Karaage Chicken Egg Bowl (Side Order): The sauce was well-seasoned, with a faint sweetness from the onions and a pleasant hint of curry flavor. Chicken pieces were tender inside, and beautifully fried outside. Fried Rice (Side Order): The fried rice was savory but slightly soggy. It could be a little more "parapara" (fluffy). Overall, another great ramen choice in the South Bay. Highly recommended. read more

Came at opening Friday lunch. No wait. Right now they're only open for lunch Friday-Sunday. 1. Daikoku ramen combo with chicken karaage egg bowl and salad -Cabbage salad: dressing reminded me of a savory thousand island. A bit too salty -Karaage egg bowl: basically oyakodon but with karaage. Too much sauce. Would prefer regular chicken vs karaage for this -Daikoku ramen: broth was a bit bland compared to the other dishes. Egg was good and meat was soft. Noodles were fine 2. Gyoza: was hoping it to be slightly crispy. Flavor of filling and sauce were okay Overall 3.25. Service was good with staff coming by often. read more

Food 4/5. Food was really good and good variety of options. Service - terrible. Host was friendly. Our server with blue hair gave us a lot of attitude. She made us feel unwelcome. It was 5pm at their opening and they had 2 customers in the restaurant and I understand they have a policy of not seating you without everyone. BUT we had 2 of the 3 and our 3rd was 5 minutes out and we wanted to order beer and sake first. We told them and they still gave us a hard time. I understand enforcing this policy when you are busy but when you are 90% empty and I'm telling you we are going to order drinks and appetizers first, you should let us sit down and order. We almost left the restaurant. We ended up ordering more than $150 worth of food and drinks for 3 people. Bottom line you should train your staff better to make small adjustments when it makes sense. read more

Located off PCH in Torrance. Parking is shared with all the businesses in the plaza. This was formerly another Japanese Restaurant I forgot the name but anyways the interior is a bit different when you walk in the door there is a kiosk you put your name and number in your party. You are then taken to your seat there is a long narrow walkway with bar top seating on one side and a couple of booth rooms to the right as you get further into the place there are more tables and bar top seating. I got the Daikokuya ramen which was good I will need to try the other dishes next time. The staff were friendly and helpful, overall a great experience here. read more

First time at Daikokuya! I have very high standards for ramen (very picky) and I thought this place was average. I ordered the Daikoku ramen. It barely has any meat and was very salty flavor wise. I was chugging water a couple hours later. For $17.50, I expect a little more. Place is across from Nike. Tons of parking. Service friendly. They won't seat you until the entire party has arrived. read more

Great little ramen shop in the Rolling Hills Plaza. We arrived right at opening, so we had a choice of where we wanted to sit. All the workers were very welcoming and our server was very helpful. I am so glad I no longer have to drive all the way to Little Tokyo for a bowl of Daikoku ramen. From the outside looking in, you'd never guess how spacious this restaurant is. You walk in, follow the host/hostess down a hall to your seat, you're greeted by the whole staff as you pass through, and it makes you feel like you've stumbled upon a little pocket of Japan right here in SoCal. Definitely a cool experience. Service is pretty decent. I could tell one of the servers was relatively new, but I have zero complaints. My order was taken promptly and my bowl came out surprisingly fast considering I came in during the dinner rush. The texture of the noodles was on point, the broth had such a rich depth, chashu had a great meat-to-fat ratio and the ramen overall was delicious! Also, paying for extra chashu is well-worth it. The meat practically melts in your mouth and pairs so so well with the broth. My only critique is that the barley tea was $3.50. By no means, expensive - but I was slightly ataken back because many Japanese restaurants in the South Bay don't charge extra. Since this Daikokuya is in a bustling plaza with Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and Sidecar Donuts - I can truly see this spot popping off in the near future. But for now, I'll enjoy the fact this location hasn't been too crowded as of late. read more

Another one of my favorite Ramen chains just arrived in Torrance. One of the best spicy miso ramen around with a bold and rich creamy broth packed with flavor. I love how you can get a variety of combos with each ramen you decide to choose. I would highly recommend getting the fried rice or the chashu combo. The fried rice has the perfect wok char that gives it that deep umami flavor. The chashu also has a perfect char to tender fat ratio with a sweet glaze that gives it a real one of a kind flavor. Overall I really enjoy Daikokuyas ramen and would put them up there with the top ramen restaurants around South Bay. read more

Daikokouya is now in Torrance! I am so excited to have this ramen spot now in the South Bay! I first tried this spot in Little Tokyo and the line was super long. The Torrance location just opened yesterday and so not many folks about know about it yet. It took over the old spot where Torrance Yokocho once was. It actually has the same decoration and feel as the previous restaurant. I chose to get the Daikoku Ramen for my first visit. For $17.50, this ramen is quite the deal! It is a huge bowl filled with a hearty broth, tender homemade pork belly chashu, bamboo shoots, green onions, a whole marinated boiled egg and some sesame seeds. I did find the broth slightly on the salty side but overall it was still pretty tasty. Aside from the Daikoku ramen, they also have a Spicy Miso, a White Vegan and a Spicy Sesame ramen. They also have a variety of rice bowls and appetizers. Being a ramen fan, I am happy to see Daikokuya now in Torrance! read more

Went back 1 month after soft opening to dine in with the family and it did not disappoint. My son normally only likes shoyu ramen, but he proclaimed this was the best ramen aside from Ichiran literally in Tokyo. My daughter really liked it as well, commenting on how fresh the noodles tasted. Lastly, my wife loved it, and she agreed with my lofty claim from years ago that this was the best ramen we've had in the US. It tasted just like the one from Little Tokyo, and I swear the portions were still larger. There is still a little room for improvement, but DKKY gets a 5/5 for living up to the hype and my nostalgia-fueled expectations. read more

Love the decor with booths and Japanese music blasting that make you feel like you're truly in Tokyo, only with more space between tables and air conditioning. Daikokuya was one of the original LA ramen chains in Little Tokyo, and this location has the same classic ramen broth and noodles that I would expect in Japan. There are places with fancier toppings, richer broths, and customization options, but Daikokuya continues to serve traditional ramen the way it should be. Portions are generous, but combo prices landing in the mid-$20s seems high although the fried rice portion is also a decent side order size. read more

The gyoza filling was flavorful. The dipping sauce had a mild acidity. The ramen broth was rich. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The chashu had a bit of a sweet taste. My family and I went here after we heard of the new location. So happy there is one right down the street from us now. The ramen was perfect..not too salty, not too oily..just so yummy! You may or may not try one of its several branches across LA area before, but now, it came to Torrance finally. The previous restaurant already decorated its japanese pub look and feel, so it didn't take much for them to move in and settle quickly. Food wise is consistent like its other branches, it tastes good like a solid bowl of ramen. I usually go to the one in downtown before and the taste is about the same. For the price, you get enough value from any of its ramen choices. Service is fine, you may need to flag the waiter to fill up the water at times. During busy hour, prepare a long wait, but their ramen bowls do come out quite fast, so the turnaround is not too bad. Overall, I rate it 3.5, but round it to 4. This location was initially very good, but things have started to decline. The food has gotten less tasteful, and shows obvious signs of being rushed. As I came in for a 2nd time, no one was at the front counter to seat our party. The restaurant was not even busy and had many tables open to accommodate our 3 person party. We waited for 5 minutes as no one showed up. An employee walked over to the front counter for a second, nodded at us, and simple walked away without a word. We waited another 5 minutes until a member of a party had to scout an employee to get seated. The ambiance is good, although misses on every other aspect. Broth and noodles were super delicious! There was a small mix up with my order but they were quick to fix it. Chashu was a bit sweet for my liking. I would've preferred the flavor a bit more savory, but it was still good. The gyoza was amazing! Highly recommend picking up an order of the gyoza even if you can't finish everything! read more

We were excited to try out Dailokuya in Torrance. Our party of 2 arrived for lunch after 1pm and the restaurant seemed pretty empty, especially as a larger party walked out right when we arrived. There was no host at the entry way. We added our name to the list but there was nobody on it. We sat in the entry way on the benches and waited, making eye contact with people working in the restaurant several times but nobody acknowledged us. Finally we flagged down an employee who seemed to be on break as he was walking out the door and he went back into the restaurant to find someone, came back out and said it would be another five minutes. We waited another 10 minutes, continuously making eye contact with employees working within the restaurant but nobody came to acknowledge us or welcome us. Someone picking up a to go order came and an employee came to speak to him (standing about two feet from us), but never looked over to us or acknowledged us or gave any indication why the wait was so long. By this time we had sat there 15-20 minutes and we had to leave since we had a schedule we needed to keep. There was nobody at the front of the restaurant the entire time. I'm really surprised by this poor service. We were looking for another weekly ramen spot and this was very a disappointing experience. read more

Excited to have our own Daikokuya in Torrance! I got the Daikokuya ramen combo with fried rice and as always the food is great. I am so happy I don't have to drive to downtown or sawtelle now that I have one in my neighborhood. The best part is there was no line. We had our own private booth which felt very nice, my group had fun playing "find the cat" while waiting for out food. I was expecting the service to be a bit slow since it just opened but our server Jake was quick and on top of everything. I like the noodles -can taste the noodle, texture was perfect, volume is good. Topping is good and egg is hanjyuku. unfortunately had paper in a ramen. And, near close time (it was910 and they close at930), they start to make noise at cleaning and feels like rush out to leave. read more
