This place is dirty and has zero personality and from what gather from the lady behind the counter, the donuts are made someplace else...will not be returning.. GROSS SAUSAGE ROLL -

This is what I was craving from Jelly donut at my local shop!!

I was in the mood for an egg, ham, and cheese croissant . I work in Benicia and this place was the first result. I am all for helping local businesses. Walking in I looked at the donuts and they look like they were cooked in motor oil. Also, the croissant wasn't served 'hot and fresh'. It was siting and then warmed up... i wish I got a photo of the sad sandwich I got. Even Jack in the box has a better breakfast sandwich! ATTACHED IS A PICTURE FROM MY LOCAL DONUT SHOP. this is a croissant sandwich!!!

Hidden DIAMOND in BENICIA/ VALLEJO border! Yeah, you heard it first, not just any gem! This is a small business located at the back of a small and quaint shopping plaza... I'm dropping bread crumbs so you'll find it like a treasure hahahaha Great customer service and HELLA GOOD maple bars! In my opinion, the best in the 707! It's a good size with maple cracked glaze crisped on top and at the sides of a perfect balance of fried cake doughy goodness! Lawd , have mercy! Make this your fav shop! *Get there EARLY so you'll have a selection to choose from! *Cash and credit accepted. *Closed on Tuesdays.

Perhaps if you are in a pinch and need to get doughnuts then maybe if in the area and there was no other choice, I might go back, but very unlikely. This was the first time I can remember, that I purposely did not finish an Apple Fritter. I went on Saturday March 15, 2025 about 8:45 ish, and there were slim pickings in the case, so for the business thats cool they obviously had a busy morning, The lady helping me said they got wiped out with big orders, that's good for them, The customer in front of me ordered an Apple fritter, I was surprised because I didn't see a " normal" looking Apple fritter in the case, but the lady grabbed what they're selling and put it in a bag, I thought, well the remaining donuts didn't look welcoming, so I ordered two Apple Fritters. Long story short, Both Apple Fritter's were burnt, as soon as I bit into it I knew there was a problem, I didn't even bother giving my daughter the other one. I know small businesses do not like to waste products when they think they can still sell them, unfortunately sometimes when that happens a customer will not appreciate the quality of the product and do a Yelp review just to let other customers to be aware of what they may be buying

It's got a little hat?? Lol

So the donuts are fresh and a good flavor. However.... The selection is very limited EVEN if you come early in the morning. I've stopped into the shop maybe about 5 times within the past two years because it is the only place to get donuts in the area other than Safeway, and it's always the same. Very limited variety, and never enough. Coffee is also overpriced. There's literally a Starbucks next door cheaper. Like I said the donuts are fresh, if they got em lol but nothing to write home about. I want to see more creativity. it's got potential.

Wow... I actually forgot that we had a donut shop in town. I just had a craving one day. It was almost 10 o'clock, and I really just wanted a maple donut. It was already pretty late for me eating breakfast but I still wanted it. But then it dawned on me...Benicia doesn't have a lot of breakfast anymore. But my friends recently had a conversation about that new(it's not new) donut shop that's in Benicia now. What a perfect time to try this place out?! So this place is nestled in the back of the plaza where Napoli's is. There will probably be parking when you go. Ive lived in Benicia for 30 years and I've never seen this lot full. But as for the donut, I really liked it. For a minute it reminded me of this one donut place that was in the Raley's shopping center years and years ago. It was soooo good. It's not like I hadn't had a really good donut in years. No. Far from it. I think it's just that the only donuts Ive ate up to this point were Krispy Kreme and Vegan donuts which are well and good but what happened to just a good ole fashioned donut? Theres a reason it's called donut. It's not like it's called sugarbread. Let me taste the dough in my friggin doughnut man! Anywho. Great donut place. The maple doughnut was devoured in a matter of a minute. Definitely wouldn't mind checking this place out again at a little bit earlier in the morning.

Unlike the Fairfield location, I have been able to get seated in a reasonable time at the Benicia location. They're popular, but not to the point of waiting 45+ minutes. The corner by Huckleberry's is often full. Ive been a couple times and the quality and service have been consistently good. Of the foods I'd recommend the fried green tomatoes and fried okra for starters. They're also one of few places offering beignets. For entrees the crab cake Benedict is good. The portions are filling. Ambiance is very casual. The utensils come in a little paper pouch and the napkins are paper towels on a dowel at each table. This particular location can look a bit dim. I think it's because of the direction of the windows. It's tasty and if you've been to Huckleberry's before you won't be disappointed by this one either.

I think one of the veggies was not fresh, but not a big problem I asked for ice water which the service person brought in a wine glass, a nice touch. + slices of lemon, which I ask for. Quick, efficient and friendly service in a white tablecloth setting. There's an annual Street Fair across the street. So an easy live Jazz graced the outside brick patio I was seated in . They call it garden seating, but there's not enough plants to call it a garden. Also the the connecting door and building is in contrast quite dusty with flaked paint.. I ordered the tomato prawns with linguine and toasted French bread. My partner had the prawn cocktail with a side garden salad. We also ordered iced tea, which turned out to be Brisk literally Brisk, not fresh brewed tea. For a waterfront restaurant overlooking the Carquinez Bridge, with entrées running around $29, I expected a little more attention to quality. My linguine tasted like what I can only describe as an upscale cafeteria meal. The tomato sauce had a noticeable heat to it that I don't remember seeing described on the menu, and the overall flavor lacked depth. I ended up needing plenty of lemon, Parmesan cheese, and butter just to bring some life into the dish. The prawn cocktail was extremely spicy and also missed the mark. Between both meals, the food simply lacked luster. There was also an odd metallic aftertaste that made me wonder whether some of the food had been sitting or prepared in industrial metal pans. I can't say for certain what caused it, but it was noticeable enough to affect the experience. The bright spots were the strawberry lemonade and the warm bread, both of which I actually enjoyed. What disappointed me most was that the restaurant wasn't particularly busy on this Saturday afternoon, so I expected the kitchen to have a little more room to put care into the plates. Instead, the food felt like it lacked love, effort, and the kind of detail that makes you feel good about spending nearly $30 per entrée. Sailor Jack's has one of those settings that should make the meal memorable. Unfortunately, this time the view carried the experience more than the food did. Would I return? Maybe but probably just to try a burger, enjoy the scenery, and keep my expectations much lower. Overall: beautiful location, underwhelming food, and definitely a meal that lacked luster.

Best of all, she keeps that coffee cup FULL--it never runs dry! Her warm, friendly service makes every visit feel personal and appreciated. Now, let's talk about the food. Joy of Eating serves some of the BEST country potatoes in town. I've tried plenty of breakfast spots throughout Vallejo, and these potatoes stand out: hot, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. The omelets are beautifully prepared, the pancakes are delicious, and the coffee is always fresh and enjoyable. On my latest visit, I customized the Garden Omelet, which comes with spinach, tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms. I added turkey sausage and cheddar cheese, and the combination was excellent. I paired it with those incredible country potatoes and the homemade toast and that toast is absolutely OFF THE CHAIN! Add a little mixed berry jelly, and you have a breakfast worth coming back for. The atmosphere is peaceful, comfortable, and wonderfully down-home. It's the kind of place where you can settle in, enjoy a full cup of coffee, savor a hearty meal, and start your day on the right note. I usually visit two or three times a month, primarily for breakfast. I've heard great things about their sandwiches and lunch selections, but breakfast keeps pulling me back. Whether you live in Vallejo or are visiting the area, Joy of Eating is a fantastic choice for a classic, satisfying breakfast with genuinely friendly service. I highly recommend it.
