I recently realized that there are so many Daily Provisions located around the city. Who would've thought?! I honestly didn't know until recently. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's definitely a convenient spot no matter the time of day. The menu has a little bit of everything such as pastries, coffee, tea, sandwiches, salads, soups and even gluten free options. They also serve beer and wine, which I wasn't expecting. This location has both indoor and outdoor seating, which is nice. The setup is mostly DIY since you throw away your own garbage and etc. But they do bring your food and drinks out to you. They also have a restroom for customers and a self serve tap water station with glasses, which I appreciated. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich. I was surprised daily provisions is so small inside for how adored it is - throughout the entire time I studied here there was a large line waiting to order and to pick up, it is clearly a hot spot for coffee, pastries, and meals - I was so impressed by the sausage egg and cheese. the sandwich came out piping hot with a runny egg and melted messy cheese. i believe it came from the cheese...or perchance a sauce...but there was a unique slightly savory tangy taste. the sausage was a thick juicy patty which made the whole thing very filling - my americano was quite solid, I enjoy that they have "for here" cups. While everything is slightly overpriced , I do think their Sausage Egg and Cheese is excellent (think of it as an upscale version of the Bodega version). All their pastries and coffees are solid. I ordered the Bacon, Egg & Cheese Sandwich for myself and an Everything croissant to share. We had also wanted to try the Cinnamon Cruller, but they were out and the next batch wasn't going to be done for an hour. Sandwich and croissant were both good. The egg was cooked pretty well on the sandwich so there was no run in the yolk, which was disappointing. The avocado had tangy dice of pickled sweet/hot peppers; it rested on a slice of grainy bread and was topped by two delicately browned fried eggs. The egg sandwich had thick, short slices of peppery bacon. Hot, melty, great fusion of flavors--more than the sum of its parts. The coffee was hot and delicious; staff were friendly; service was quick. Prices also very reasonable: $40 including tip for sandwiches and coffee; we each got a free refill. This is a cute little cafe! Three of us came here for lunch on a weekday w a toddler and we were able to find seating and enjoy our meal together. There's a nice selection of caffeine and a couple of alcohol choices. The food menu is a little chicken heavy but that's not a problem for us. I got the chefy salad and thought it was a great portion size. The salad dressing was quite tasty and the chicken was well cooked and not dry. My husband tried the chicken salad sandwich and also enjoyed it. This is a good place for a healthy meal and a cute ambiance. When I walked in on a weekend morning, the place was chaotic to say the least. There is limited seating, so it's quite competitive in the winter. The coffee is good here. I do really enjoy the strength and taste of the espresso. The staff is super friendly! Bacon egg and cheese: 9/10 This thing is famous for a reason. The gooey egg, the thick bacon, the soft roll, and the hot sauce all make for a perfect combination. I would highly recommend getting this. I was looking for a simple bacon egg and cheese near the history museum and this place checked the boxes! It's a trendy cafe with a handful of tables and chairs to sit at. It was busy on the weekend so I wouldn't count on being able to snag a table but maybe it's better during the week or the summer months. The line did move fast. I would say I was there for a total of 20 minutes between ordering and waiting for the order. The area near the front door and the "to go" shelf where you also wait for your order was crowded and kinda awkward but obviously I think this would be better if I went at a less busy time. I ordered and iced caramel coffee, a maple cruller, and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. The crullers I think are their "thing" so I had to try one and I'm so glad I did. It was so fresh and fluffy. Our impressions: - Crullers (maple and seasonal raspberry lemonade): My family deems these the best donuts on the UWS* - Cold brew: smooth, delicious and so very welcome on a day when I was dog tired. You can add or not add a milk of your choice at the counter to the left of the front door. Oat milk, skim, whole and I think two percent were all on offer, along with cold water and glass water cups, which you could help yourself to. This is a nice act of generosity (and ecological conscience) that my generation probably took for granted when we were younger, but no longer can. - Lines: not awesome. On the weekday morning of my most recent visit, the line was to the door, if not out of it the entire time. People who are smarter than I am order ahead! The staff is good, friendly and helpful even when you can tell they are just as tired as you are. After waiting for a very long time and approaching the front of the line, someone began helping folks behind me in line to order through a remote device rather than at the register, which helped cut the wait time for those behind me by a great deal. The breakfast sandwiches looked delicious! I couldn't justify having my young humans stay outside with our pup by themselves for longer than necessary, so I could order these sandwiches. But next time, I hope. * The kiddos did a taste test comparison of Krispy Kreme, Orwasher's and Daily Provisions donuts (with an unfortunately strong background knowledge of Dunkin' Donuts from school birthday celebrations). We weren't comparing apples to apples, but rather crullers to sufganiyot, cake donuts, glazed donuts, etc.... But for what it's worth, Daily Provisions' crullers were a long shot favorite. It's true that they aren't airy on the inside -- in fact, I'm pretty sure based on the small bite of the maple cruller I tried that there's actually a creamy filling in there. But flavors are vivid, the texture is light and lovely on the outside, without leaving a heavy impression of oil. The employees seem overall happier than those at Orwasher's. The guy at the counter offered me a cruller for the wait, which was appreciated. Sandwich was fresh and good, but I took it to go. I'm always looking for a good bread on a sandwich, and this was toasted nicely, but can't tell if it wouldn't been better warm and eaten there and not 30 mins later. Pricey at $14 for a sandwich. Glad I got that cruller, too. I got the Maple Cruller, which smelled divine like pancakes. It was a sweet treat. Not sure I would enjoy it again, I don't really eat a lot of fried donuts. The first time I tried to go here was a Sunday at 10:30am the weekend of the nyc marathon to meet ladies for coffee/dessert. I live 15 min away so I placed my order just before I left so I could have it ready to sit down with the ladies. Fast forward a few months later, I had a credit that was about to expire, so I ordered a maple cruller on a Monday at 12pm. The store wasn't crowded and my order was actually there at pick up. When you open the bag, you get hit with the maple syrup smell reminding you of pancakes on a Sunday morning. The outside glaze was a tad crunchy and the inside was very soft. A favorite in Upper West Side, this is a go to when I just want a quick coffee or sandwich or pastry. Was in the area yesterday after a doctor's appointment. Got a quick latte (love the latte art btw) and their bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Sooooo good! I also got the blueberry muffin to go as well as the ham & cheese sandwich to share with my husband.
