Been going to Yagas for a while now and I gotta say, this place just does it right. Food comes out…read morehot, tastes good every time, and they don't skimp on nothing. Burgers are solid, drinks are cold, and you don't leave hungry, that's for sure. What really makes it though is the management. Those folks run a tight ship. You can tell they know what they're doing. Always moving around, checking on things, making sure customers are good. Not a lot of places got that anymore. They treat people right and it shows.

My friends and I were visiting the Strand during prom weekend, and since everyone was hungry, we…read moredecided to stop here. With a party of 11, we were initially seated outside, where the strong wind quickly became our biggest enemy. Utensils were flying, birds were circling, and powdered sugar from the beignets was getting all over our clothes. Thankfully, the staff noticed and kindly opened up the second floor for us. Throughout all of this, our waitress remained friendly, attentive, and patient, even entertaining my friends' terrible jokes. The Beignets were a great way to start the meal. For five very large beignets covered in a generous amount of powdered sugar, $8.99 felt like a great deal. They were fluffy, fresh, and served hot, which made them especially comforting on a cool and windy day. I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos, which came with three tacos and a side for $14.99. The portion size was very generous. I could barely finish two tacos and hardly made a dent in my sweet potato tots. The fish was crispy, the tacos were packed with a cilantro cabbage mix, and the sambal crème fraîche added a nice creamy element that balanced the dish well. That said, while everything was solid and satisfying, the tacos did not particularly stand out in flavor compared to similar dishes I have had elsewhere. Overall, this place delivers a fun and accommodating dining experience with friendly service and generous portions. While the food is good, it leans more toward reliable than memorable, making it a nice stop if you are in the area but not necessarily a destination I would go out of my way to revisit.

I always appreciate when staff is excited about specific plates. The trip was dynamite. The sauce was TOO GOOD. Like, we wanted to drink what was left. 5 stars just for that. My wife loved the oysters. The lobster roll had quite a bit of lobster in it. Super buttery and filling. Solid fries. This was a very pleasant stop on our trip.

It's been more than a day or two since we've been to Shucks. Not because we don't like them, but…read morebecause the costs of living, eating, and breathing in our town, and I expect all over this land, seem to be going one way, and that is up. Our lunch was absolutely delicious. Here's the rundown: 1 appetizer of ahi tuna won-ton, 2 raw oyster samplers, 2 Galveston Island Brewing blondes, 1 dirty gin martini with blue cheese stuffed olives, and one to-go bottle of Cat Five hot sauce. I am not a huge fan of tuna, but this ahi/poke style of tuna with actual umami flavor elevates a mild sushi gateway fish to something yummy. The oysters were a delight. Shucks has a color coded system in place to help you identify which oysters are which, but my tired old eyes can't seem to make their system work. I did have two favorite kinds but could not tell you what they were. No matter, they were all superior - and small like east coast/ Canadian bivalves are. Dan's beer was tasty and swillable and my martini was appropriately dirty. We got the hot sauce because you can never have enough condiments and cats were referenced in its name. Our server was friendly and efficient. Interesting to me, I was mildly making fun of their music selection and soon after it changed. Coincidence? Dunno, but I appreciated the change to Motown! Bottom line. So, so enjoyable and something we don't do too often these days. It was an expensive meal, but worth the splurge.
