From the beginning, Alan was methodical, communicative and prompt. He showed up to give us an estimate and answered my numerous questions about the job at hand. By the end of the same day of his initial visit, we had a detailed estimate in email, which we approved. Our house was remodeled in the past with uniqueness and quality materials in mind, but with 80% completion on many aspects. We needed a contractor who could help complete our unique vision. Alan replaced a large area of cedar shakes on the back of our home, helping erase the evidence of a decayed deck we previously removed. He also crafted a solution for a corner where the previous homeowner didn't seal up the house properly. Alan was organized and gave great attention to detail. He communicated his arrival and departures each day, and ended up finishing ahead of schedule. I am super happy with the level of attention that was paid to each detail of the job, and will hire Alan again for a future project.

We reached out that night to let him know we were not satisfied with the work and and after some difficult and delayed communications, he did agree come back and make it right. two weeks later he replaced the deck boards again. This time it was done right, as it should have in the first place. We really appreciate his willingness to come back and correct the mistakes. We're happy with the re-do but probably will not hire him again due to this negative experience overall.

They claimed I was lying, they threatened me with using slander laws against me. In the interest of full disclosure I will reprint all the relevant details of our communication and you can decide. NOT FAIR that you have posted such things Business: We thhink it wise for you to delete the slander upon our company who are not your personal servants but a simple Service that you called for help but your schedule did did not match with the OPTIONS we only had available to you. I believe if you look at my original review and the communication there was not a single falsehood. I mentioned they said "tentative", but I also think their communication implied an appointment. You be the judge. They never refused me service, but honestly that would have been preferable. I never treated them like they were my "servants". After meeting with four separate contractors for an exterior stair and deck rebuild on my mother's…read morehistoric Victorian home in Portland, we chose Erik to do the work. We felt that he had the best plan on how to tackle the project and took into consideration the historic nature of the home as well as our concerns around designing the rebuild to use materials that would age well over time while while also maintaining the house's historical character. Erik was awesome to work with -- he kept in touch throughout the project, finished on time and on budget, and the end product looks amazing. Honestly, we were sad when the project was finished because he's also just a really cool, fun person to have around. We will definitely be hiring him again the next time we have a need for a contractor. Can't recommend him highly enough.

Only several months after they installed the bathtub, the caulking they used around the tub cracked and disintegrated. And, I learned today from a plumber that the bathtub itself was not put in properly-- they did not use a mortar bed! This is one of many examples of the corner cutting and sloppy work from Marin VIP Builders. I waited too long to file a complaint with the Oregon CCB. My advice: look elsewhere for your contractor.

We hired Isaac and team to replace our kitchen counter tops, install tile back splash, and install…read morenew kitchen sink/faucet. We have a smaller kitchen (about 25 sq ft of counter top space). Photos show before on the left (or top), and after on the right (or bottom). The work was completed March 2024. Isaac was honest, straight forward, patient, and quick to respond to questions or concerns. His recommendations (e.g., 3cm thick quartz counter top), though expensive, were high-quality and ultimately a decision we do not regret. The sub-contractors were respectful and took their time, and did excellent work. Some additional details: For insurance purposes, we wanted the invoice of the kitchen counter tops. After several requests, Isaac was able to get this to us. We suspect the delay on this was due to the subcontractor: The invoice was issued by the vendor (Architectural Surfaces), addressed to the counter-top subcontractor, and had to be obtained from the subcontractor. Isaac was very professional, patiently replying to our several requests, and ultimately delivered the invoice. The project start date was delayed about 2-3 days due to cutting/delivery of the counter tops, but Isaac was quick to let us know this and quick to reschedule the start date. The counter tops and sink were installed in about 1-2 days, and the tile back splash and detail work took about 2 more days. I believe the work started on a Thursday and was completed by Sunday. Delays like these may not work for some people, but they were not a problem for us; it was very convenient that Isaac's team could come in on the weekend to complete the work. We did not get other bids on this kitchen-counter remodel, but we did have Isaac submit a bid for a master-bath remodel. Comparing his bid to two others, we can say his pricing is competitive.

The photos looked good and he was pleasant to talk with. We agreed to hire him to build our railing thinking we were going to receive a quality and professional job. Unfortunately that is not what we got (see photos). The railing has multiple issues from split wood to different size pieces, two different colored screws and crooked gates. I asked Rick to come out and address the issues and he did come out to take a look. He said he would raise the bottom rail to fix the issue on part of the slats but then I would have a bottom rail that is higher in some areas and not level at all, so fix one issue by causing another issue is his idea of quality work. He would fix the gate as he noted he used warped wood to build them. He came back a few weeks later on memorial day which he picked so I canceled my plans so we could finally put this project to bed.. When he showed up he didn't have all the supplies he needed and didn't even have the correct supplies at that. I told him to come back with the proper materials. He clearly has no attention to detail and is not interested in fixing the project the right way, instead trying to take any short cut possible. Later that day after he left I ended up sending an email asking for him to fix the project by starting over which he even brought up when i was showing him all the issues instead of trying to put a bandaid on everything. Or provide us a refund and we will hire someone else. Rick's response was he was not going to fix anything now. He is not returning my phone call now either. Sadly we trusted Rick and we got burned. It was a very expensive lesson learned and took us a long time to save up the money and unfortunately will cost us even more money to fix the project. With spending almost $10k on railing we thought we were getting a quality product which is disappointing that we are now out the money and will have to spend more money to fix a railing that we should not have to do. I can not recommend Rick with Solid Rock Handyman Services. The lack of attention to detail from installing split wood, to different colored screws, and warped gates that don't latch properly i would never have him do work on property again sense he does not stand behind his work. I encourage you to look for a different handyman if you are in the need for one. Rick with Solid Rock Handyman is not someone I would ever use based on our personal experience.
