I should have known- my parents live in Hye and we have always know the DQ here is slow and people that work there are normally rude - but there are only so many options . I'm sitting here in the drive thru and there were only 2 cars in front of me- sitting here for at least 15 mins still not at the window - I should just leave but I feel bad bc it appears the only one working the window is a much older woman who was sweet as can be on the speaker when I ordered. This has got to be the most disgusting DQ ever. Filthy floors, disorganized kitchen and the treats were gross. The milkshake was just that...milk with chocolate in it, so basically $3.00 for chocolate milk, the moolattes were full of ice crystals and had the consistency of water and the fries were undercooked. After the Bryan's on 290 fiasco just minutes before, I was left hungry and was basically held "hostage" (see the review to believe the shenanigans). After my daring escape shortly before 9PM, everything else was closed. So I appreciate that the latenight staff kept the DQ open. I had The Dude (chicken fried steak burger) and a small hot fudge sundae. Fast service, within three minutes. Hearty area locals elevated the atmosphere. The lighting was way too bright though and would recommend warm white vs the current interrogation/fluorescent white. read more

Came in to DQ for lunch and to wind down. Computer system seemed to be down and most employees seemed to have been thrown for a loop as to what to do. KrisLynn stepped up, took charge and owned it. Worse DQ experience of my life. I know it's fast food but I grew up on DQ and it was a treat when I was a kid. I actually worked for the one in my home town and we made every thing when ordered, that is definitely not the case here. We got there at 9:15 tonight and ordered chicken tender basket, hunger buster and I had the nachos. Food came out in less than 5 minutes. Nothing was fresh. Daughters tenders were old af. There's no way my sons patty could've been made fresh simply by the amount of time it took to get it. My nachos were straight up gross. Meat tasted horrible and the chips tasted like burnt, gross grease. Asked for a side of jalapeños and they were slimy and nasty. I didn't even know pickled jalapeños could get like that...because they're pickled. I couldn't even eat one and only ate a couple bites of my nachos before I threw them away. It took longer to write this review the. It took us to walk out. Shame on this location for tainting the DQ name... read more

Every 2 weeks I grab lunch at this establishment. Over time I have ignored poor service and long waits. Times are hard. This time I will NOT ignore and I will never patronize a Richeson Dairy Queen again. I placed my order at the counter with a very unfriendly teenager. I took my number and went to wait for the food. During this time I got my drunk, straw, napkins and catsup. Hands full I tossed my receipt in the trash after checking my number. Three orders were placed after mine on the same register--all three got their orders while I waited. After approximately 15 minutes a woman asked what I was waiting on. I told her, she asked for my receipt and I told her I had tossed it but that it was #6. Keep in mind only THREE customers came after me on the register. She then exchanges gossip with a person at a table. Comes back and tells me my order had been "overlooked". Okay...stuff happens but my appetite had decided to leave and I asked for my money back. Same woman tells me I have to have the receipt I had told her I had tossed in order to get a refund. My order was 3 orders back on the register and I had told her the #6. So, I trash can dived for the receipt. Horrible service for inferior fast food. This restaurant deserves a minus star.​ read more

The tacos were pretty good.... once they got my order right. This location proves two of my maxims -- 1) Small town Dairy Queens are either excellent or not good at all. 2) Teenagers probably need adult supervision before being left alone to "run" a restaurant. read more

Wow, I feel like I'm just confirming what others have said about this place. Nothing like a sticky floor in the dining room. Add to that the tables, booths and chairs all being dirty and I can understand why most that came in ordered their food to go. Stopped in for a blizzard with a few friends tonight. We stood there for about 10 minutes as at least 3 employees walked by us and never acknowledged us. Finally a male employee walked to the register and mumbled something that sounded like "what can I get you". We ordered our blizzards and paid without another word. The ice cream I ordered my kids was fine, however, the restaurant wasn't up to cleanliness standards. A lot of dirt and food on the floor on both the dining and food prep areas. None of the employees were wearing any type of glove or hair net before going from register to cash handling to food preparation. HORRIBLE experience in Johnson City, Texas, today! We asked for coffee this afternoon, and the manager told us "no coffee pot works; one was kicked." We settled on a hot fudge sundae, and the prep girl had to dig the chocolate out with a plastic spoon---no gloves, after handling money! Yikes! So I love DQ. Like, LOVE LOVE. I've been eating at various locations, literally, most of my life. This DQ is a shame and a blight on the good DQ name. It's FILTHY, like, GROSS filthy. We stopped to use the restroom and order two meals. Service was beyond slow and our order was wrong twice. I was never so happy to leave a place. We tried two bites of our food and then stopped eating; it was not up to DQ quality. When we arrived home, we threw $20 worth of food directly into the trashcan. What a waste. Stopped in on my way to my sons house for a quick bite. Having grown up in small town Texas DQ is always a staple for quick, decent food in a clean environment. Well not here. We didn't even order because standing in line we had to continuously swat flies away. And if that weren't bad enough the dining room was filthy filthy filthy. This is a great place to eat if you like filthy conditions. My first clue should have been the overflowing trash can at the front door. Then, once inside, every table was dirty and needed to be wiped down. We ended up taking some napkins and water from the soda machine to wipe down a table so we had someplace to sit. One of the workers saw us do this, and still didn't come back out to clean tables. Near one table it looked as though someone had spilled a slushy onto the floor- so instead of cleaning this up, they simply put one of those 'wet floor' signs next to it. The four workers behind the counter seemed to have plenty of time to talk amongst themselves about what they were going to do for the weekend, but no time to pick up a wet cloth and wipe down a table or dumb the trash. Save your money and eat someplace else - unless you enjoy eating in a dirty restaurant. read more

I don't hold high expectations for Dairy Queens especially in small towns. This one however just takes the cake! We were passing through when my husband said he was "starving" so we stopped here. We should've ran back to our car and just waited a little longer none of the people behind the counter, including the actual cooking area were wearing caps or hairnets.. health violation much? Long pony tails to the middle of their backs all ready to jump into customers food. No one seemed alarmed by this. We ordered a chicken strip basket and a steak finger basket in hopes of it being okay enough to eat. The drinks had to be filled behind the counter because the girl behind the counter said "Oh the sodas out there are all flat so I have to fill them back here." Our food came out and the chicken was dry super over cooked and not worth a few bucks. Not to mention to horrible stinky, exploding toilet in the restroom.. just wait another 10 minutes and I'm sure there will be another fast food joint along the way. read more
