I've been going here for many years with my family! Every time I've gone, the workers have been really friendly and I've enjoyed their service! They alway work really efficiently to the best of their ability. My blizzards or ice cream cones always come out perfect and I also really like the vibe of the ice cream shop. I enjoy getting to sit out at the benches in the back during the summertime with friends and then walk around the small shops down the street or head downtown. This location is closest to my residence. A gentleman helped me on the phone and, then in person to get a promotion I learned about in a marketing email. The DQ app had some steps that aren't intuitive. When I got my order home, I called to tell the same man that the hot fudge sundae ordered with chocolate soft serve was prepared with the usual vanilla, not chocolate. Fundamentally, I do not like Dairy Queen. I mean... maybe, it's fine for kids. Maybe. But still, I think kids should be exposed to better ice cream, so when they turn into adults they know how good ice cream should be. It's not that I do not have good memories of Dairy Queen as a kid myself. I do. I vividly recall at sleep away camp how all my fellow campers would do just about anything for a Blizzard delivery from the DQ in the nearest town. Actually, when I think more carefully about that story, I realize that I lacked the same enthusiasm for the Blizzard having never been exposed to these treats at a tender younger age. So, let's say, I have good memories of Dairy Queen as a teen. Because once I had tasted the wonders of a Blizzard, I was hooked. But of all the Dairy Queens out there, this one is mine. It's the one that is in the neighborhood. It's the one that I walked to even when we lived in the other house which was further away. And it's the DQ where I have been honing in on what is my favorite Blizzard. My chief complaint about DQ in general is the quality of the soft serve. I'm not sure if it officially counts as ice cream. Blizzards work well, as they help to obscure the soft serve flavor and texture with a variety of toppings. Real ice cream I consider to be a food, and what I have been trying to do is turn my Blizzard into something that resembles food. So I added banana, coconut, pecans, and fudge. Sure, the fudge isn't food, at least not here. Still, those topping could benefit from something chocolatey. Notice how I didn't say chocolate, as I don't think any real chocolate can be found at DQ either. Regardless, that flavor and texture combination is a winner in my book. For under $5 I can get a mini size version of this treat, which is really all anyone needs. But jeers unto DQ for making the small size just pennies more than the mini for almost double the amount of sweet goo in your cup. The pricing model galls me in that it absolutely encourages overconsumption. But that is not unique to this DQ either, or fast food in general. This particular shop however is uniquely charming. It's an old school DQ. It hasn't been remodeled by corporate. It doesn't have a glossy sheen to it. In fact, when it is boarded up at night, one might suspect the place has been abandoned. It has not. Nor does it participate in a lot of larger Dairy Queen promotions. Screw those corporate guys! Corporate DQ has totally lost its soul. All told, 3* for a Dairy Queen for me is a flippin' glowing review for a business that I see as a pox on humanity. While there may be parking, and possibly a drive up window, this building isn't meant for cars. It's meant for pedestrians. If you want to drive to a DQ, why are you coming to this one anyhow? Drive a few more minutes in either direction and get your goo on at one of the corporate spots. If it's after hours, do what the folks at York do and park in the lot across the street from their strip mall and walk. Then at least you can feel like you a part of the neighborhood, even if you are an outlander. Ooh. I think I may be starting to sound like a local. Or maybe that's just the sugar buzz. read more

Sometimes you just need a Blizzard. At least that's my own thought! And when passing this quaint Dairy Queen location, I couldn't help but stop by for a little pick me up. As cute as this place looks, I have to agree with other reviewers that it can be treacherous for cars. I was in the middle lane to turn left I to the parking lot, when someone came barreling down Packard towards me, wanting to turn left on Stadium; I had already been in the turn lane for a good 10 seconds, and well before they had merged into it. They finally slammed on their brakes right before reaching my car and proceeded to glare at me until I was able to turn left, and they floored their accelerator. Shaken, I searched for a parking spot (and almost got backed up into by another vehicle), before I was able to park and walk up to order. The staff was friendly, and I ended up ordering my usual Blizzard, just in a larger size than normal to help soothe my frayed nerves. It hit the spot, and I remembered why I loved these so much in the first place. I'll probably just visit another location for my next fix! read more

A friend and I went to this Dairy Queen today (Tuesday April 11) and had a very positive experience. The store looked clean and organized, and the person at the register was extremely kind, and my friend and I's ice cream is absolutely delicious, made incredibly quickly by the young person with brunette hair pulled back who seemed to be up front by herself. I didn't catch a name for this employee, but kudos to her and the mini brownie batter blizzard was delicious! Service and ice cream definitely earn a 5 star rating! read more

C'mon. This place is the greatest! It's old as the hills but always has really nice kids providing the customer service which gives them an opportunity to work and make a little money too. Ann Arbor is a college town just like Austin so the hiring of kids is a really important part of this community. Dairy Queens are doing something right or they wouldn't have survived all these years. They're ice cream is the smoothest and their hot fudge is Top Notch, and it actually is warm even though it's surrounded by icecream. The Boston coolers are top notch and definitely in Michigan driven beverage. The night before we left Michigan we stopped in and treated ourselves to open in a split which we shared. It was the good old-fashioned kind with sliced bananas, vanilla ice cream and toppings of strawberries, hot chocolate, and chopped pineapple, topped with whipped cream over it all, then a sprinkling of peanuts! read more

Hmm. After almost getting my car wrecked in the parking lot here I think I have to tweak my review. I've always liked this one since I thought it was cute and neighborhoody but the parking lot is terrible and lately the people consistently park like aggressive idiots. Half the time they're pulling up in huge vans filled with like 2-3 families that come together and they park along the side lot and block the exit lane. I guess that's not the business' fault but man, people sure are inconsiderate! Park on a side street and walk over if you're driving a boat! But also the last few times here I've thought the staff was a little on the aloof side. I know it's not easy and it's probably exhausting and annoying slinging ice cream all day but I've gotten some serious attitude back when asking a simple question or requesting a bit more topping on my sundae (they are a bit stingy, I agree). Although I guess the no nonsense works because the line does move pretty quickly here, which is a bonus. Also--no cherry dipped Dilly bars. Not sure if they don't carry them or if they just run out but several times when I've gone they've not had them. Which is a bummer because its the easiest way for me to bring my husband home a treat if I'm out there without him. Ah well! It's not a big boxy DQ, but rather the little neighborhood ice cream place. There's parking, but often it's easier to walk there. We had never visited a DQ before, and were a little surprised by this location's walk-up ordering window and lengthy line of customers. There's a private parking lot and an alternative drive-thru option, both of which cycle pretty quickly due to demand. I ordered a limited-time Twix Blizzard and my girlfriend ordered a Cookie Dough Blizzard, which ended up being around $8 total. This particular location doesn't adhere to the upside-down rule, so I was a little disappointed that I couldn't try it out. That being said, both Blizzards were pretty good compared to other fast-food ice cream options, though the toppings were a little on the sparse-side. Overall, I'd recommend visiting DQ at least once if you've never been before, but think there might be better locations to try out. read more

We've been going to this DQ location for 30 years, but not anymore. As other reviewers have pointed out, they skimp on ingredients, such as blizzards that are supposed to have mint in them and there isn't enough to even taste! And when asked to make things right, their answer was that we should pay for another one and hope that there would be enough ingredients the next time around to taste them. When did buying a blizzard become a crapshoot? Too bad it has gone so far downhill. It has kind of been a neighborhood institution. Took our kids there while they were growing up. Knew some of the kids that worked behind the counter. Now it seems like the kids that work there get no training, so the service you get is basically random. read more

"A Tale of Two Dairy Queens" Ann Arbor is truly a city divided. There are two dairy queens: this one on the east side, and another over on West Stadium. They could not be more different. Reasons this dairy queen is far inferior (I've been to both, most recently tried the W Stadium location and was blown away with how much better it was): 1) This DQ location puts less "stuff" in its blizzards. It's consistently the stingiest blizzard I've ever had, always too much soft serve in the soft serve-to-stuff ratio. The oreo chunks are about as rare as a decoder ring in a box of cracker jacks. 2) Ever peek behind the counter to see them soaking the metal blizzard collar things in that clogged sink of dirty water? Yum. 3) This location is actually more expensive. $4.00 for a small blizzard, vs. $3.69 at the Stadium location. You can basically get a Medium there for the same price as a Small here ($4.19). 4) This location always has the second window closed, leading to heavy lines. The Stadium location, at least when I went, had both windows open and fully operational to minimize wait. This is clearly a franchised location with crummy owners, as they don't participate in promos like the "serve upside down or its free." In fact they tape blank paper over parts of the banners to blot it out. Nothing but the best. This location is fine in a pinch, but if you live in the middle of the two, it's worth heading west for a far more pleasant and objectively tasty experience. For me, it's a few extra minutes to the west location but I'll never go back. read more

First DQ visit of the season today! We got mini blizzards which were pretty good. Decent amount of mix-ins but cups weren't overflowing, as they sometimes are. The service was a little slow because there was only one person working and school had just gotten out (4pm). I also wish this location had more seats! Don't go there just when the kids or adults are getting out of their softball games in nearby parks -- the lines will be too long, and everyone will be yelling at each other and ordering things that are sort of complicated, and maybe needing to borrow some change from a teammate or somebody's mother. But on a summer night, you can sit at a picnic table facing the firehouse and slowly spoon up your blizzard or lick the softly melting surface of your ice cream cone and you might feel better about world politics or your job or the housing bubble. And the people at the next table, and the people pulling their cars into the lot, and the ones at the table in front might all feel better too. read more

This place is always wonderful and I love it. Today is 12/12/12, the last day of Dairy Queen. The sign says 8:00 pm close and at 7:30 this evening, I was hoping to get the last taste for the season. Nope. Closed. The fat, lazy kid working today turned the sign off and was cleaning up. God forbid a long-time customer gets 2 minutes of your time, sir, so he get one last round for him and his wife. I come here almost every day and get the same thing and it's always good. Sometimes my partner and I have made extra requests and the staff is always friendly. My roommate likes to eat the mulberries that grow in the parking lot too. The chocolate extreme changed my life for the better, and my mate gets the peanut butter bash which i don't even think is on the menu but they made it no questions asked.
