Summer means it's time for blizzards! We stopped in to try the seasonal dipped strawberry cheesecake blizzard. Good amount of mix ins. Loved the cheesecake and chocolate but the strawberry pieces were artificial. We ordered via the app for pickup. Only downside to this location is that their online window wasn't open, so we had to wait in line with all the other customers (~15 minutes). Ordered an Oreo cake, they decorated which was awesome. Lid was not snapped on so cake is all over my driveway now. When I called, the owner argued with me and told me it was my problem. PISS POOR ownership!!!!! That damn cake was $40+!!! I also ordered a shake with whipped cream for my mom who is dying and no whipped cream. Customer service really sucks at businesses anymore! Runny blizzards - not served upside down. Probably because it would have run out of our cups. Big thumbs down. Also, teenage workers not paying attention - had to knock on the window 2 times to get their attention to come to the walk-up window. I am giving them 2 stars because they used to be good and I am hoping they can turn it around. This last order is typical of how the service has gotten bad. We ordered a med blizzard with double Heath and double Reeses, and a small chocolate with Oreo. We got a medium with very little Heath, and a small VANILLA with very little Oreo. This has happened the last 3 times we have ordered. We always use the drive through and eat at home and It is a bit too far to drive back to get the order fixed. Always an odd experience. For example, they never tell me my order total. I have to ask for it at the window. The ice cream is usually melty and they never flip the blizzards. Minimal candy in the blizzards. Just feels like penny pinching on their end. Doesn't feel welcoming either. They put Minnesota on top of their receipts to get out of the free Dilly bar survey deal. Melissa also trims off the bottom of the receipt recently making it impossible to scan for points for those using the DQ app. This is a scam and Vern needs to close. Owner Vern is also super rude and have had no one have anything nice to say. They are running a scam to get out of freebies that the corporation clearly wants. read more

The blonde woman named Melissa is one of the rudest people and needs to be fired. The worst service I have ever experienced. Melissa at the Lake Zurich DQ location has made it her mission to ruin the customer experience. Not once, but twice, she flat-out refused to honor valid coupons from the DQ app. The most recent offense? Denying a coupon for a medium twist cone--no explanation, no apology, just a cold "no." But the real kicker was the first time. I tried to redeem a survey coupon printed on my receipt, which clearly showed the corporate Minneapolis address. Melissa claimed the code didn't work and insisted I must've been at a different location. My boyfriend calmly showed her the receipt from our current order--printed right there at the counter. It proved we were at the correct store. She realized she was wrong... and still refused to honor the coupon. Let that sink in: she knew she was wrong and still denied the deal. I was supposed to get a free Dilly Bar for completing their own survey. What's the point of offering promotions if your staff treats customers like liars? Between the skimpy portions, the rude attitude, and the blatant refusal to honor corporate offers, this location feels like a scam. Melissa's behavior is not just unprofessional--it's hostile. If DQ wants to keep loyal customers, they need to retrain their staff and enforce basic standards of respect and honesty. Today I had a terrible experience at Dairy Queen. A nice young lady took my order and I tried to pay for my two shakes. When I paid for my two shakes I thought it was all good and so did the nice young woman working there. After this, I got yelled at by an older manager with Blond:ish hair. The older man at the window was very rude and inexperienced! I wanted to use 500 points for a free blizzard treat, and he scoffed when I said I wanted to use my points. He made me pay with my card because he didn't enter it in the register correctly and I couldn't use my points. I work at a Dairy Queen myself, and knew he just didn't want to do the extra work. I used to go to the small store but haven't been to the big one yet. Today I was in town and decided to try it. I went through the drive through and placed my order. It was repeated back to me but fast and quietly, I didn't understand and said excuse me?. He repeated himself in a loud/shouting voice. Then he was defining the drink I order (slushie with ice cream mixed in). I said yes, that's what I want, that's what I ordered. He yelled again, I just have to make sure. At which point I said never mind, I don't want anything. And I said your an ass and drove away. Well, he flew out the back door and ran around as I was driving toward the exit. He proceeded to throw an orange safety cone at me and called me a fu**ing asshole. I don't think I'll be going back there. read more

We stopped in for a Dairy Queen fix at the new location. The brownie thing I had was... meh. Unremarkable and not very good, so I just had my Oreo Blizzard. The blonde at the counter was friendly and polite, and we had no problems with our customer service. I did see an older gentleman inside, maybe that's who all the fuss is about. I wanted to find out their hours, and was forced to ask the blonde because the hours aren't actually posted anywhere. Went through the drive thru to pick up some blizzards on my way home. 1. I ordered the cookie dough blizzard with some brownie bits to it not knowing there's a "brownie cookie dough" flavor bring it a NEW flavor. 2. When I asked for lids on the blizzards I received a very rude eye roll from the person at the drive thru window. Worst fast food experience I've had. 0 customer service. Was never told to pull forward or given a total at the drive thru. Was never given a receipt when I pulled up. Had family members stop there yesterday and NONE of the workers were wearing their masks. It's bad enough that there was an older gentlemen not too far away from the counters coughing up a lung without a mask on. This place is one to avoid, only because of its owner and personnel. The owner is clearly not a fan of children and cuts corners to make money. It staff can't crack a smile, and service is awful, almost like they're doing you a favor. This is the WORST Dairy Queen experience I've ever had. I just ordered a small Heath Blizzard and a medium Twin Blizzard. Approximately $11.50 total. A COMPLETE AND ABSOLUTE RIPOFF. VIRTUALLY ZERO candy found in either Blizzard. Like maybe one TEASPOON of the most finely ground crap pieces of those candies. I am blown away at how badly made these Blizzards came to me. I would give a zero rating if I could. Absolutely RUDE encounter with the person (an older male) working the drive through. I ordered a M&M , vanilla Blizzard and the person working the drive through felt it was necessary to lecture me on the fact that all blizzards come with vanilla by default and that I didn't have to order it specifically. He continued on this lecture for several minutes making every attempt to be as condescending as possible. Luckily for this gentlemen my kids were in the car and I took the high road but if not I would have given him my lecture in return on how to properly interact with customers. Considering the 4+ dollar price tag of a small ice cream, you would think he would at least attempt to be courteous. Perhaps this was an outlier incident but in any case it left an impression with me and as a result this establishment has lost my business indefinitely. I would leave zero stars if I could. The owner is the rudest person I've come across in a long time. He was having trouble with his headset and then made a nasty comment because I ordered from the back seat, but when you have a car full of kids and multiple orders it was easier to do it that way then yelling the orders up to my husband. I notice that they never give a receipt or even offer one. Their tip bucket is in between the customer and cashier, one has to reach over the tip bucket to pay. Since I'm not sure if the money, from the sales that don't seem to be rung up, is actually going to the owner, I'm not going to tip besides. The quality of the blizzard is either really good or vaguely flavored. Not consistent. Last time, I was there the unfriendly woman with attitude waited til after I paid and didn't tip before my blizzard was made. My Hawaiian blizzard was vanilla ice cream with no pineapple, just banana. It was edible but not that good. read more

I feel somewhat disappointed. We decided to go to the DQ in Lake Zurich *BECAUSE* of the poor reviews on Yelp and Google+ about the old man with poor customer service. After reading about the hand in the ice cream, the shoving the blizzard in somebody else's face, him getting mad at somebody with the gall to order ice cream, and the general bad service, we were really looking forward to some sort of geriatric meltdown. We were really disappointed. The service was prompt and friendly and we didn't get to live out our desire to be in a Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld via the cranky old man.
