the outside of a subway restaurant

OKay...it's 115 degrees outside, and I know that Dairy Queen is a short drive from my house. No bother that I have ice cream in my freezer, and maraschino cherries, and even stuff to make smoothies. The sign "Orange Julious" sells me every single time. When they remodeled Dairy Queen to carry Orange Julious products, it was a good move. I've not ever eaten anything there but ice cream, and I'm sure I never will. Cause there's no need to. Ice cream is enticing to me. My dairy allergy is going to creep up on me someday, I pray it's not here, and that I always have my inhaler with me. I order ice cream cakes from this location, also.. They are really good, and pretty too. Today, I wanted a Strawberry Julious. It was heavenly. I had it drank in about 10 minutes. Should've gotten a large, as always. Walking into this Dairy Queen smells of fresh ice cream. They've really improved the store. Granted, it's not, and never will be a Glace or Fresher than Fresh. But it's a pretty good Dairy Queen.

This location is still open! Visited today.

The carhops came right up to our window to take our order and were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The menu is surprisingly large for such a small place. We ordered the Wiz Burger, chicken nuggets, tots, onion rings, fries, and Brown Cow root beer floats. Prices were very reasonable, which was a nice bonus. One thing I really loved was the option to order their homemade root beer in an ice-cold glass mug (which you return when you're done). It definitely adds to the nostalgic experience. Our favorite items were the crispy tater tots, the chicken nuggets (which were more like mini chicken strips), and the root beer floats. The Wiz Burger was definitely unique, but it wasn't a crowd-pleaser in our car. It's made with loose meat mixed with onions, pickles, and cheese, which may appeal to some but wasn't our favorite. I'd definitely go back to try the chicken sandwich, pork tenderloin, or spicy buffalo dog. The food itself might be closer to 3 stars, but the unique throwback nostalgia of the carhop era bumps the overall experience into 4-star territory. It's a must-try-at-least-once kind of place.

My review is, for me, the burger, its not that good, its just not for me. My expectation was, they had the "IT FACTOR" for the burgers. Something you would have expected from the day, 60/70 years ago. The old larger bun, not biscuit size, grilled burger meat, mine seemed losely patted and steamed and more than pickle, onion and mustard. Maybe thats just the way its always been and others love it. Im glad I went but it is a one stop for me. I wish you another 70 years of continued service and a great icon of Independence, Mo.

Hi-Boy is a small burger spot with no seating inside and NO DRIVE THRU, which I find charming. It harkens back to the 50s when it was first opened and even has a neon sign that looks great at night. But the whole visit here was about the burger, and while they don't have bacon here, the burger was cooked to perfection. With just a bit of char around the edges for a crunch and a flavorful and juicy middle of the patty would've been enough to get a great review. But Hi-Boy also makes an AMAZING French fry that I couldn't get enough of. This spot is a very long drive from my house, but that's not going to stop me from visiting again and again. An inside walk up counter without any seating on the premises, is one of the reasons my visits have been infrequent over the past 35 years. I usually head to one of their two other locations now so I don't have to eat in my vehicle. This past Saturday i did stop in and order a tenderloin, since i am in the middle of "Ralphie's Tenderloin Tour" with 12 tenderloins under my belt (figuratively and literally) in the past month. Unfortunately their breaded pork tenderloin is mass produced and frozen, so it did not make it close to the top tier in my rankings, but for what it is ...it ain't bad. I did like that they put plenty of veggie toppings and their burger sauce on it for maximum taste. I'll probably stick with the burgers on all future visits. 3.5 stars for the tendy... 5 stars for the burgers, rings, cyclones, variety and value of the menu, and of course the decades of nostalgia and fond memories.

However it was also very empty there were no customers inside, I waited 5 minutes for staff to come up and to be greeted. Staff didn't seem too interested in taking my order. I ordered my burger, I got the number 11 Burger and it turned out pretty good. However the lady in front of me she just got a drink but she didn't pay for it which I thought was strange. My major con with this place is something that Whataburger possibly can't control but there's a lot of homeless around the building and a fellow came up by my vehicle when I took my bird into the car and tried pleading me for money but he was loitering around the Whataburger the whole time and when he went away as well as some other people in his situation, they all moved to the car wash next door and it kind of brings down wanting to eat here or go here either if you got these people just lingering around possibly becoming a Target. I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned that in their reviews, overall wouldn't recommend
