Every year, as August is coming to a close, and fall is nearing, Dairy Queen releases its famous Pumpkin Pie Blizzard. This seasonal treat has been a fan favorite since it was added to the Dairy Queen menu in 1991. The Pumpkin Pie Blizzard is a soft serve with pumpkin pie pieces incorporated into it. It is garnished with a dollop of whipped cream and a generous amount of nutmeg seasoning. For the past thirty three years, it has been hyped up as one of the best fall treats. So, on November 16th, I decided to give it a try. As I took my first few bites, I quickly noticed that the flavor was extremely underwhelming. The pumpkin taste was so subtle that I could hardly taste it. For the most part, it tasted like vanilla ice cream with a slight hint of pumpkin flavoring. The "pumpkin pie pieces" that are mixed into the soft serve are simply flavorless chunks of pie crust that are thrown into the mix. In my opinion, they did not contribute any flavor to the dessert. I think that this dessert would be elevated in flavor if the pumpkin pie pieces included the actual pie component, rather than just the bland crust. This Blizzard, which is said to be fall in a cup, lacks the most important component- the actual taste of fall. If you are looking to find fall in a cup, Dairy Queen's Pumpkin Pie Blizzard is not going to fulfill that wish. Additionally, I do not understand why so many people would want to have a chilly dessert during one of the coldest times of the year. After all, I am already shivering, why would I want to eat ice cream? A Blizzard should be enjoyed in the summer, not autumn. A Blizzard just does not seem to be the ideal fall dessert, especially for those who may live in cold regions. When I saw my Blizzard sitting at the pick-up window, I was underwhelmed by its appearance. While the dessert is already unenjoyable, additionally, it is not aesthetically pleasing. The Pumpkin Pie Blizzard is a soft, dull orange color. However, real pumpkin pie is a deep orange. It didn't bring forth the cozy, autumnal vibe that I had been expecting. So, I think that if the Blizzard were colored more appropriately, it would at least appear to be a pumpkin pie product. I would like to say that I typically enjoy Dairy Queen, especially their Blizzards. I am also a big fan of all things fall. So, when going into this experience with high expectations, I was extremely let down. The dull flavor of the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard, the nonideal coldness of it during the fall months, and the lack of resemblance to an actual pumpkin pie takes away from the fall feel that this sweet treat is intended to evoke. If you're looking to have a mediocre soft serve, Dairy Queen's Pumpkin Pie Blizzard would be a great choice. On the other hand, if you're looking to have a true fall dessert, I would recommend eating an actual pumpkin pie. read more

Cute little spot. It's the Southernmost Dairy Queen. There is a small parking lot, and a few tables outside. Two tables are shaded and the rest are not. Ice cream was good and in the afternoon on a Friday it wasn't busy at all. read more

This Dairy Queen is not your average. Is an old style DQ ice cream only. If you are thinking in heading this way on a weekend be patience there is always a long wait, and your ice cream will melt by the time you get back to your car... It is Key West after all... Not my favorite place to go to, but from time to time I always end up here like today that was weirdly empty. -Service is not the best -There is street and on-site parking. read more

Dairy Queen used to be my go to ice cream. I live right around the corner and the ice cream was so cheap and adorable, hard to find anywhere in key west. It was a staple place for high schoolers to work and I heard they have all been fired. Really disappointing overall. The service has been so slow since the change and the ambiance of the whole place has changed for the worse. read more

Got here a half hour before they are scheduled to close and staff turned us away. They advised that due to the "weather" they closed at 9pm rather than 10pm. The weather this particular evening was just rain... Did not attempt to go back during our stay. read more

I love the ice cream. I love the owner, but until Timi is retrained, we will not be returning. We frequently visit here, but every time we come she is the absolute rudest person. Constantly makes mistakes on the order, and then doesn't want to fix it. She mistakenly gave us a cone instead of a cup. All good, mistakes happen, but when I pointed it out, she just flipped the cone in a cup and walked away. She the. proceeded to get angry and rude with me when I asked her to remake it. I would never in my life have thought I would give a dairy queen a one star rating. But this place sucked. First off, they were out of bananas. What kind of dairy queen runs out of bananas? So I ordered something else, and they made it wrong. Second thing we ordered camenout the wrong size but I know I paid for a large. Girls inside were not paying attention and goofing off. I must say this is the worst Dairy Queen I've ever visited. For some reason, it took a very long time -- even though there was more than enough staff. The staff was friendly, it just took super long. Also, after I ordered my DQ Blizzard, they usually always will flip the cut upside down to show how it's still cold yet creamy. Well, this was the first time I've noticed a DQ not doing that with my Blizzard. After I received my blizzard, I understood why -- it was more like a liquid milkshake, or ice cream soup. It was very watery, not very flavorful. I ended up dumping it. I do not recommend this DQ, and will not be coming back. read more

I come here sometimes more than once a week. Service is fast and the frozen desserts are always so delicious! Plenty of parking. My top faves: Oreo blizzard, Hawaiian Blizzard, and the chocolate dipped cone. The blizzards come in mini size, too, for instant satisfaction it's RiDQulous! read more

Went their with my friend. Only two people were working. The girl took my friend's order and then left her other coworker alone with a line of customers to take and fulfill orders. The girl went on break for at least 30 minutes - I never saw her again and it took 25 minutes once the girl went on break to place and get my order. By that time my friend had finished eating. And they take your credit card into a back room to run it... super sketchy. Won't come here again or recommend. @DairyQueen - Get better management at the Key West location and stop being sketchy with running credit cards. Keeping an eye out to see if my credit card number was stolen now. read more

Kids got slushies here. Flies everywhere but it was a last stop before leaving Key West and the server was very nice.

The service was quick and it was typical dairy queen. The ice cream was very frozen and didn't melt all over you in the heat! Old building but don't let that turn you off. Yummy blizzards. The tables were gross and could use some pressure washing. The location is off the main road, and if you aren't looking you might miss this place. We enjoyed the ice cream. read more

We drove up at 9:50 on our way back to Casa Marina. There was 4 of us and we wanted ice cream. After looking over the signs to decide what we wanted while the customer ahead of us was being helped, the young gentleman inside yells, "we are closed!" He was so rude and it would have been a nice order. We will never go back there again. read more

The staff rejected us for showing up at 9 not knowing they were closing (so early for an ice cream shop to close in a tropical area). Kids were so disappointed and staff was rude about it. Most ice cream shops in our area will stay open until the line ends and get good tips from it. We will not be returning to this location. read more

We went a few hours ago for a nice little dessert. We ordered Blizzard's. We couldn't even get 1/4 of the way through them before we were both nauseous and sick at our stomachs. We're both still sick. So I decided to write before I forgot. I don't know if I can blame this on the chain or on the local store.
