When we first drove up the outdoor patio was empty that wasn't a good sign. Stay or go that was the question, but we stayed and entered through the main door into the bar. Place was packed and noisy enough a jumbo jet could land inside and no one would hear it. But we wandered outside for a Late dinner/snack. Mac's was the perfect place to grab diner after a long day of travel getting to key west. Like many places in key west you're going to have to walk or ride your bike here. I opted for a lime lager and their house burger. When you dream of a Cheeseburger in Paradise that is exactly how it looked and tasted. Mac's offers outside and inside seating, the view of the marina and live music make it a great spot to sit back and relax. We ate here after our fishing charter and it was perfect. The waitress recommended the burgers and she was right. They were massive and had a great flavor profile. They were so good that every single one of us finished our burgers. The ambiance is a typical key west spot, except the bathrooms and bar area were a little nicer. Ordered some of the plumpest chicken wings I have ever eaten. It was a long day on the water so we did not have cocktails. The server SiSi was attentive and friendly. They offer Daily Specials including Grilled Chicken Teriyaki for $20.00. The inside full liquor bar was classy with a funny bar tender. What I expected to be a great experience ended in disappointment. I had seen some reviews and videos that we should try Mac's. The food and the location would be worth it. Upon arriving, the atmosphere seemed great. Pretty lively, and we sat outside and had a great view of the bay. It took a while to get service. Our waitress was nice but not attentive whatsoever. It took almost 30 minutes to place an order and the restaurant was not very busy. She was nowhere to be found. Our drink took forever. We never got any refilled. Once our food came out, we were excited and then felt disappointment. They forgot a burger and then we had to go track down our waitress to ask about it because she never checked up on us. I got the fresh catch tacos but made them a bowl and I was unimpressed. It was quite pricey and it was the smallest portion of fish. The bowl was half slaw and it tasted quite bland. The grouper I got blackened and it was the blandest piece of fish I ever tasted and it nothing on that dish worked. I basically paid for bland food. I did not finish it. I also found fish bones in my fillet. The queso was surprisingly very good but not enough to save the meal. The burger was just okay with it being over cooked and a lobster roll that was drenched in mayo that basically overpowered any taste of the lobster. Overall I would not recommend coming here in think there are better place in the island to get quality fish and service. read more

This place had good reviews so we stopped in for a drink one afternoon. Our waitress was friendly enough but not very attentive and did not have a sense of humor at all. We had to wave her down for my husband to get a second drink, to get our tab and even to pay her. And the place was not very busy. We were able to watch a deep sea fishing guide filet some fish that a group had caught and the group said Mac's Place was going to cook the fish for them. That was a fun experience that we just happened upon. I would still go somewhere else - there are just too many places to try!! read more

I don't rate places on my first experience because I know that there are many variables in people and processes. with that said, the 3 times I have tried Mac's Place in Key West has been the most disappointing of any of the restaurants on the island. my first experience a few months ago, I ordered the catch of the day sandwich (blackened mahi mahi) the bun was 3 times the size of the filet and it was very dry. I tried 2 more times because of other reviews and I wanted to make sure it was not just a fluke. each time was extremely disappointing in both portion and how over cooked the fish was. I'm not even sure of it was fresh or frozen. The service did improve on my 3rd visit, but was not enough to overcome over priced low quality food. there are so many great places to eat on the island, but this is not one of them. read more

Been here a couple of times and the food is good. I order the same thing, Greek Salad with a side of fries. The Greek salad comes with a good amount of chickpeas (love this) and feta. I do ask for extra dressing. The fries are always hot and delicious. This spot is located right before you get into downtown key west so it's nice to get a good meal while also avoiding going all the way into town and searching for parking. We tried the blackened fresh catch tacos which were good, fish was perfectly cooked and well portioned. It could have used a smidge of Chipotle mayo or something. This place is a great place to eat, the happy hour food is delicious and fair priced. The sliders are massive and only $10. The queso is unique, much thicker than traditional queso. The women servers are always super fast, funny, and helpful. They have live music with two guys that play chill rock and cool covers.
