I felt like Sailor Moon walking around with my little white basket full of neon plastic as the music kept me J-Pop hypnotized. Don't be fooled by how small this store is, it's so densely packed that you could be in a therapeutic shopping trance for well over an hour. Always love this place I come here sometime for a few years, love everything is $1.50+ super cute products from Japan. It's so hard to find parking here so whenever we can find a parking we will go here and hmart at the same time. Nice customer service the cashier always friendly, they charged 15c instead of 10c for bags it's ok I always brought my bag when shopping and go to the market. I love their kitchen stuffs and I bought so many bowls and plates over here for my house. Lot of DIY stuffs at my house from this place. They always have new stuffs sometime I come back and I saw something new. The shop look very nice and clean and staff always got things replaced in the back. Super organized, clean and new products. I know sometime people just open the packets but over here I don't see much. Overall I love this place I never spend under $40 here I know that's a lot of stuffs lol but I can't help. Loved going to this place for years but no longer. My cashier today was an older woman who was incredibly rude. I was trying to use up some coins and actually waited in line twice so I wouldn't hold up the line trying to count out coins for her. I eventually gave up and gave her a dollar bill to cover the rest and she actually laughed at me after leaving the remaining coins on the counter. Daiso Japan, as one of my closest friends told me, is like a 99 Cent Store... but better! Think cheap imported Japanese goodies that retail for mostly $1.50 (they go as high as $10) but way nicer items. Located in the former Tuesday Morning location in Mira Mesa, today is opening day - and the line to get in is extending past the entrance to H Mart! Once inside, the store was very clean and organized - it appears Daiso deals mostly in housewares, basic footwear, and a small selection of basic grocery items. While they do have those ramune sodas (the drinks where you have to slam a glass marble to open the bottle), they don't carry Pocky snacks (and come to think of it, Hello Kitty merch was rare as well). I did pick up some snacks, a ramune soda, a scarf for my gal, and a musubi press for myself. Additionally, not only was there a raffle for an iPad Mini, a Keurig machine, a Dyson vacuum, or gift cards, they were also giving away gift bags containing a pack of noodle snacks, cookies, and a bottle of tea with your proof of purchase. And, there were taiko drummers celebrating the opening of the store - nice touch! Great prices and a fun selection... definitely a worthy successor to the Tuesday Morning location! But, with Daiso, H-Mart, Paris Baguette, AND In-N-Out in the same area, parking in that mall is going to be all sorts of cray-cray... read more

Daiso is the equivalent of an Asian dollar tree or 99 cent store. Don't walk in planning not to walk out with something or a hand full of items. Everything is $1.50 and up. The store is well organized and separated by departments such as gift wrap, home, office, makeup, food and more. For being so cheap the items have a better quality feel than the dollar tree. It's not going to be name brand but it's still sturdy. I didn't realize how much they have in this little store. I walked away with only few things after putting a lot back. I was able to pick up numbered birthday candles, a very nice happy birthday banner, a cake banner and makeup pouch. Great little store for cheap items. Ever since visiting the beautiful 4 story masterpiece of Harajuku's Daiso in Tokyo, Japan, I've always had a soft spot for this store. In Japan all items (unless otherwise marked) come out to 100 yen (or 105 yen with the tax.) At this location, all items (unless otherwise marked ) come out to $1.50 plus tax. Still, not a bad deal. As I expected, Mira Mesa Daiso can't compete on the same level of anything in Japan, but it remains true to its roots as being very clean and organized. Like Target, you probably don't "need" anything, but you can always find something to buy. I was surprised how friendly the checkout folks were. The guy even held the door open for me as I left. Most important thing you need to know about this mostly buck fifty store... THEIR STUFF BREAKS. Like. BREAKS. COMES APART. DOESN'T WORK. Ya know - words that are associated with anything crapola. My first experience with Daiso was in LA some years ago and I was sold. Just loved all the Japanese trinkets sold at such a cheap price. I would buy the dumbest sh*t I didn't need. Oh yeah - add that as another description for this place. It is, without a doubt, fun coming here for the first time as things are so bright and pink. Everything is pretty much $1.50. But how good of a product are you getting for $1.50. I usually come here when I'm making a toy basket for friends' kids or something. They have enough gadget toys that'll entertain a kid under 8yo I think. A lot of these gadgets are wrapped in plastic so you can't test them out (another Daiso trick I swear so you can't see how poorly made these toys are). But these toys, 9 out of 10 times, will break, fall apart, not start, etc. Maybe I've just been unlucky. Who knows. I was curious about the cookies and candy they sold here. It surprised me that they sell chocolate Pocky and green tea Pocky. I secretly smirked that I could walk a few doors down to Hmart and probably buy the Pocky (and a bunch of similar cookies and candy) for cheaper. BUT, here's where they get an additional yelp star from me that they probably don't care about, their Pocky prices weren't all that bad! It was $1.50 here and $1.99 (full price) at H Mart (but on sale at 2 for $2.29). What kinda weirdo walks to the Asian market JUST to compare candy/cookie prices to this place. Me. Point is - H Mart carries a lot of the same Asian candy, etc but sometimes H Mart runs out (hence why I bought the Boton Rice Candy here today). So if you're really trying to save on moolah, take the time to stroll over to H Mart and check out their inventory too. Fun times. This store is more organized and less chaotic than the one in japantown in San Francisco. The pink color makes you want to shop and shop. Everything is $1.50 unless otherwise marked. There is everything from cleaning supplies to beauty products and everything in between. All the products are in Japanese but have English on the labels as well. I got the cutest beach hat today for $2! I also got some floss picks and face towels. There are no returns, exchanges, or refunds. But if you don't like something it only puts you out by $1.50. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Debit card has no minimum and credit card has $10 minimum. I was so excited to see that there is a store in San Diego! read more

I would say that this is the Japanese version of the 99 cent store. The only difference? There's nothing for 99 cents and more like $1.50 and up. It's nice that they have one in San Diego. We used to only visit this store when we are in the bay area, not any more. So here's a question, have you gone to Daiso with a clear intention of buying something? We don't and I am always dumbfounded to come out with trinkets that I didn't even know I needed. Having said that, my family always have fun exploring each aisle to see what they have to offer. There are the Japanese candies that my kids enjoy so it's always an excursion when we stop by. Service? They help you when you ask for help but for the most part you go do your thing and pay at the counter. I do like this location since it's smaller and more intimate. I guess I have to visit the bay area location to get a better comparison. It's nice to know that we now have one in San Diego. read more

Came in here for the first time ever... Parking is crazy in this center so be warned... I was almost hit by some fool pulling out of the lot without looking- thank you Jesus as I avoided it! Now back to the store- it's a huge store with tons of Japanese goods, including food. I particularly liked all the electronic accessories for cell phones and supplies for school or office. All items are extremely cheap but of good quality. My wife buys items here for students in her class. I needed up buying a few things for home to help get organized and a few pieces of gum which I used to enjoy as a child so I was taken back a few years. The place is very organized and you do not see any clutter whatsoever - I was impressed! It's not like a free for all type of place that you'd see at a dollar store lol. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Keep in mind they have a minimum purchase amount if you're paying by card and there are absolutely no returns so you better be damn sure you want that $1.50 bag of disposable underwear lol. This review is solely for the customer service received today. I work in the area so we all recognize each other and our plaza is known for amazing customer service. Was looking around for something and asked the little girl with long long black hair (who was a busy walking around/putting things away), thought nothing of it when I asked her to show me where the spray bottles were. She continued walking said "they're over there", pointed in some general direction & kept walking. Didn't bother to show me exactly where, didn't bother to ask if I found what I needed. She couldn't help me but had time to reposition the face shield on the mannequin. Made me really uncomfortable, almost like she was avoiding me. Weird. I'll try shopping there again in the future but thank goodness there's in Clairemont & one in Vista as well. read more

I feel like my review is slightly biased. Having been to several Daisos in Japan ((seriously it was ridiculous. If you're interested in the store check out my other reviews.)) I am going to try to be as fair as possible while also keeping in mind not everyone else has visited other locations. I fell in love with this chain store in Japan, well technically I fell in love with the store before I even got to Japan. Either way, the idea of a Japanese dollar store is right up my alley. One of the major differences in this location Vs. Locations in Japan is the price. In Japan everything inside is $1 and up, everything in this location starts $1.50 and goes up. I suppose I can understand this since they are shipping everything to America. The other big difference is the size of the store. I heard this location is the biggest one in San Diego, however; it is truly not that big. Again, I was super spoiled in Japan and found a three story Daiso. This location does have everything you could need. There is make up, food, household goods, stationery, toys, etc. This is definitely the type of store you go in and spend $30 without even realizing it. I went in to get three things and ended up spending more than $30. If you have never been to a Daiso before you would probably enjoy the store. There are a lot of good finds, and $1.50 can get you a lot. The best part about this store is the stuff you're buying is not complete crap, unlike other dollar stores in the area. I will note that there is a zero return policy. Once you buy it it is yours forever so make sure you are buying things you like! read more

Daiso is like the Japanese version of the 99 cents store except almost everything is $1.50 and this store is way cleaner. They have so much to look at it's almost overwhelming. And if you're not Japanese it could be even more confusing. Luckily, I am. :) It was a little entertaining watching people ask each other what some items were or what some things were used for. The way I look at it is, hey it's only $1.50...buy it and figure it out later. I actually found some items that I couldn't find at Marukai or Mitsuwa, a rice paddle that stands on it's own and a spam musubi maker. I was a little disappointed with their snack section though. There weren't that many Japanese items. Oh well, it's a fun store that everyone should take a look at. Hopefully, you'll be able to find a parking spot. read more

Last Friday I took day off and I had a great time and ended with a mini hole in my pocket after discovering all these Japanese cheap stores in Convoy corridor area and also this one in Mira Mesa. Some months ago I reviewed the same location, but at the time was a cheap store not very attractive. Many things but just with a Salvation Army look and feel. Now, as Daiso Japan things have turned up for the better! This place is awesome, so many great useful deals for the house, office, your patio, you can find anything you need! I am a fan of Japanese elegant notebooks, fine quality paper, with funky 'Engrish' nonsense bad translated inspirational messages. Love them and got a bunch...don't know when I am going to find time to write or draw on them, but they were too cute and such a deal. I like the pinkish and whiteish tones of this store, looks like candy for the eyes. So many products that will put a smile on your face, because they contains either a smiley themselves or are just funnily shaped. Lots of heart shaped stuff also, so I ended up with heart sponge for my face (whether if I will end up using it for what is intended or find another use:). Can't wait to have another excuse to go back soon! read more

Absolutely love this place!!! There's nothing here that I REALLY need but I still enjoy going to Daiso. They have yummy snacks, odds and ends and my ever favorite chocorooms!! These are a MUST! I actually kinda like the Mira Mesa location better than the Kearny Mesa location even though the KM one is bigger. I feel like the inventory is better in Mira Mesa. I used to come here a lot back then when I used to work in Sorrento Valley a few years ago. I would come here to buy stuff to decorate my desk and cork boards ha ha Their office supplies are the best and I also love their kitchenware! I recently broke my ice cream scoop LOL and they had the fancy kind here for $3. I also love Daiso's sole inserts for my high heels! Super cheap for $1.50 and they make a world of difference! Located in the Hmart plaza, this Daiso is bigger than the one I've seen in the SFV. Parking can be a tad bit challenging around lunch hour as there are a lot of people lunching in the plaza. On this occasion, there was a Pocky sampling going on right upon entering. There was a B3GO promo going on. Who says no to a Pocky sample, psh. I came in to pick up an eye mask for 1.50 but ended up taking home some 20 dollars worth of Japanese goodies. Including Pocky. I have no regrets. read more

Visiting this Daiso Japan has ruined all Daisos for me. I came in here at 8:40 which i know is close to closing time, however they announced through the intercom so many times within 20 minutes rushing customers to leave. I'm pretty sure you can mop after closing time but the workers already started before. Also when I purchased a $2.50 item I was supposed to get $17 change back instead the cashier gave $12 change back WITH $5 missing. I didn't notice until I got home. Never purchasing from here again. Very reasonably priced store with neat random stuff that will keep you occupied for hours as you sift over and debate over whether or not you truly need the yoga ball that is only $5.... School supplies, kitchen supplies, party supplies, you name it, this place has it. And for a bargain. Not only that, the quality is high quality! I went here merely looking for dish racks. I'm a teacher and I needed them to hold up some tablets in my classroom. Well, needless to say, I ended up buying some prizes for my students as well...neat little erasers, and also a couple things for myself...an eraser and a mechanical pencil! Service of friendly. I wasn't able to locate the dish rack I was looking for and I found an employee who was able to quickly point me in the right direction. They were hiding high up on a shelf. I'll be back here. Do you know what I like most about Daiso? Yes, it has so many cute things at a cheap price, but what I like most is the fact that most of the items say "Made in Japan" and not "Made in China". To me, as a mom and as a consumer, those three little words mean peace of mind. This store is definitely smaller than the one in Kearny Mesa so the inventory is more limited but it's still very clean and organized. I still get a happy feeling walking through the doors and like so many others I can literally spend hours here looking at school/office supplies, make-up, kitchenware, toys, cell phone accessories... you name it, they probably have it. Honestly some of these reviews are hilarious. Folks this is the Japanese version of our 99¢ stores. You aren't getting top quality, but you're still getting FAR better quality than what you'd get at a 99¢ store. I've been here twice now and both times the store was very well maintained and the staff were very kind to me. They have some really beautiful dinnerware and various other awesome things. I got a new charger for my iPhone for $1.50 and it works great! There are weird things like chair socks (which I am still tempted to buy) and harder to find things like sushi molds. I remember a few years back I bought a sushi mold off eBay for $6 because I couldn't find one and they have every variety for only $1.50 each! Their lunchboxes are a bit cheap so I would skip those but they have some really cute bento items that would cost a lot online. I have zero complaints about this place and I'm sure I'll be back in the future! Oh and be aware debit cards have no minimum but credit is $10 minimum. read more

A bag of Hi-Chews for $1.50? Yes. The end. Game over. Automatic 5-stars. The parking in this plaza can be difficult during certain times of the day but this store quickly makes up for it. The store is clean and one can find many products made in Japan. My mother (who is Chinese) has always said to look for things that are made in Japan and not China because the quality is a lot better. I completely agree. Daiso also has a lot of really cute tea sets and random junk. Many of the items are in a foreign language so you'd just have to guesstimate what it really is- I highly suggest you make a game out of it. I will be coming back for my Hi-Chews. read more

Probably not the best idea to visit this spot after one too many margaritas during Taco Tuesday at the neighboring On the Border. Bull in china shop much? Daiso is the Japanese counterpart to your average dollar store. And not $1 per item. More like $1.50 per item, unless marked otherwise. They carry tons of useful and not so useful products to include kitchenware, cosmetics, organizational items, groceries and even clothing. There is plenty of novelty in their merchandise which makes for great gift giving. Or you can just give a gift to yourself. I ended up purchasing quite a bit of stuff I didn't even know I needed yesterday: a mesh strainer, some dipping sauce bowls, a plethora of perfume atomizers in different a sizes, a paper tray, an eye mask, a bento box...and a bicycle bell. Yesssss! This is seriously a huge variety store. From food, gardening, things to hang clothes with in a fancy manner, house slippers, beauty supplies and even those fancy UV protective Asian visors with the Asian gloves to protect from the sun! Yes we're very diligent on avoiding the sun =p Some stuff are $1.50 and some stuff are 3 bucks like these slippers with the microfiber on the bottom that are a must have for us peeps with hardwood floor all over! It's in the same lot as H mart and In-N-Out. And best deal for you folks that go through cotton pads like water in the name of skincare, you get 180 for only 1.50 and MUCH better quality than the generic target, CVS, Walmart cotton pads. I might have to come back here for Halloween shopping next year. I loved this store in Japan, and I'm so happy it's here in San Diego! THE Japanese 'dollar' store! My favorite store since I first found it back in the bay area in 2006. Everything in here ranges from $1.50 to $4.00 depending on the item, and most are made in Japan! You find the coolest knick nacks from beauty to kitchen and every day items for $1.50. Sure you have your Dollar Tree and .99 cent store but this place is better. Better quality and you find things here that you THINK you need because obviously Japan does it better. I found an awesome 'oil solidfier' so when your cooking with a lot of oil and you don't want to dump it in the trash, that product soldifies the oil and easy to throw away for 1.50?! Sold. The items I mostly buy here are the beauty products such as false eyelashes, BB masks, face/hand masks and Sake Face toner! I can't rave about this store enough. This store IS much smaller than the ones I've been to in L.A but this is thr closest one to me so I'm not going to complain. If you have never been here before it is most def. Worth checking out. My only complaint would be PARKING, parking can be 50/50 you either find a good spot or you don't find one at all.
