Fantastic! I am in love with this place. Everything from the decor to the food to the staff was great. They were busy so food took a little longer then normal but it was worth the wait. We had a great meal! The only thing I would change would be slightly fewer hasbrowns in my shipwreck I couldn't finish it anyway but it was light on other ingredients. Took my family of 4 to Daisy's Garage on Sunday about 1pm. We were seated right away. After 15 minutes waiting with no server stopping by we flagged to hostess to let her know we hadn't had anyone come by. She went to talk with servers who I could see arguing about table assignments. We waited about 5 more minutes before we decided to leave. We haven't eaten at Daisy's before and were interested based on good reviews from the news however we won't be back. Luckily we got right into the neighboring Vietnamese restaurant where we were very pleased by the food and service. read more

Really liked some things about this place, but the beer needs a ton of work. Good: vibe was super cool, felt like almost southern laid back bbq joint type vibe, slightly divey but I love places like that. Good food selection and good food. All sandwiches had at our table were great. Bad: beer knowledge / execution and staff training. Disclaimer: I am a beer geek and homebrewer from Colorado, and my wife works at a brewery, so we are big beer people - but we both are formerly from Iowa and CR area, so we are understanding that the beer scene is different here. They were busy, so I just asked for the first beer that sounded interesting that I didn't know, named "Underrated". Waitress came by a couple times without our drinks apologizing that the bar was backed up, no big deal. Then she came and said they were out of "Underrated". I asked for a local recommendation, to which the waitress said she didn't know and would have to check at the bar. I got the "KungFuji Fighting " based only on the name, which was a solid Belgian IPA. Note: beer list, both draft and bottle, had plenty of selection. However the descriptions listed included a name (which may or may not include the brewery), ABV, and cost. Had the menu included easily identified information, I could have made easy beer selection despite staff having little knowledge. Easy information to include is brewery, location, beer name, and style. I highly suggest the management update their menu to include this information. IMO it is pointless to have a good beer selection without this info, standard in restaurants nowadays. I ordered another beer later, waited, and the keg kicked apparently so that was not available either. I asked about several other beers, again waitress giving me a blank stare. She at least brought me some small tasters of the beers I was inquiring about, which I appreciated. I ordered a second beer, as I was searching Untappd to actually find the styles of the beers on their list. When I asked the waitresses opinion on one of the sides, she said she had never tried it. Unbelievable to me and wife who have worked in good service, that staff hadn't even tried the food. I was billed for only one beer, the "Underrated" which I first ordered but did not get. I don't know whether they were cutting me a deal by not charging me for two beers, or just screwed up. I suspect the latter. Bottom line, great place but management needs to have more informative beer menu and better trained staff. read more

Local owners of Riley's and Butcher Block open this new concept in the bones of the Butcher Block 1st Ave. locale. The atmosphere is casual complete with automotive theme decor including license plates from all 50 states, oil signs and more. There are many bottle beers, tall boys and cocktails. The menu is classic bar food, but with a twist that includes several seafood options. My group had the chicken nachos, enough for 3.5 hungry gals to share. Sangria, cocktails, wine and beer make this spot a great place to hit up for lunch or a casual dinner with friends. read more

Dined in last night around 7PM for a quick bite and a beverage. We were seated on the outdoor patio as requested and ended up with a table far away from other customers. (Huge plus!) I ordered a Hazy IPA and the s.o. a Dorothy's lager. Both were cold and fresh. (Finally! The last few visits here the beer has been warm.) For food, we decided to split sliders; half chicken and half burger, with a side of fries (which are actually mini wedges) and the option to add up to 6 sauces (we opted for 4). We were told both the chicken and burger sliders come with pickles and cheese. I asked our server to hold the cheese on the burgers, but they showed up with it added anyway, and no pickles. I opted not to make a fuss (although this could be an issue with someone with a dairy allergy, etc), and just ask for a side of pickles and red onion for the burgers. Burgers were cooked perfectly, buns soft and fresh. I cannot speak to the chicken (FYI it's fried) as I didn't try it, but the s.o. said they were delicious. Our waitress was very attentive, despite being one of two working the packed patio, and likely inside seating as well. Overall, our food was quite good and filling for the price. I have taken issue with a lot of food on the menu here and warm beer in the past, but tonight's experience was better than usual. Will likely return, if only for the sliders. read more

It's been a while and we made it back over tonight. We had only been in for breakfast food while they were serving Riley's menu. We didn't realize the menu was different, but we were totally game to try it. Had an oil spill for an app. Home fries, gravy, cheese. #winning My chicken sliders were awesome. They have like 11 different sauces you can try and the buffalo garlic parm was a "yes". #winning Wifey tried their Philly cheesesteak and left very happy. #bi-winning May I just say; Their fries were cooked to perfection. Sometime you just don't know what you've been missing until someone gets it right. Service was on point. We were the only one's on the dining side. Looked like the bar side had some good activity. AMAZING! We came here on our way home from wrestling in Cedar Falls. The tater tots and beer choices pulled us in. Everything we got was so delicious and fresh. Best tater tot dish I've ever had. A variety of hot sauces, they even have Sriracha ketchup!!! Service was so friendly. They were out of some choices our mother ordered but they made up for it being friendly and making something similar to what she wanted. They have peanuts at the tablets to munch on before you get your food. Decor inside is super neat. We WILL be back next time we are in this area. It's a must try. read more

Been to Daisy's Garage before, but had not in a while so decided it was time. Went for lunch today with three others in my party. One reason I don't get over here very often is that the parking lot is so atrocious. I think Daisy's has 8 to 10 spots dedicated to it, but the lot is small, tight, and behind the building off an alley. That alley is often blocked one way or another by city vehicles or other vehicles that are unloading items or are parked there with their hazards on for no obvious reason. Getting in and out is a huge pain. We got in, you find your own seat and the waitress was nice enough. The place did fill up quite fast and service ended up being very slow paced. It took a lot of time for her to come over and get our drink order, then a lot more time to actually get the drinks... then even more time in between her dropping those off and coming back to get our food order. The food seemed like it took a normal / decent amount of time to reach our table and overall it was a very good meal. Around the table; one person I was with said their Philly was luke warm at best but okay otherwise. Another had a Reuben and enjoyed it, yet another had the white bean chicken chili and buffalo chicken sliders with mixed reviews but overall just OK. I had their signature " Kick N Tenderloin " with pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, bacon, and a garlic aioli which I loved. I can't speak for everyone at the table but the food was good with good portions and a solid value. Unfortunately poor service kind of plagued us throughout the meal as we were only asked for refills on our coffee ( which rings up at nearly $3) by our waitress once. A waiter who wasn't responsible for our table asked us if we needed anything as many times as our actual waitress did. I wish we had sat in his section instead, he seemed like a great waiter. We told our waitress how we needed tickets separated at the beginning of the meal, then she asked again at the end of the meal, and still she didn't get it right. Kind of frustrating but not the worst offense. Overall, solid food... nice atmosphere. Horrible parking and sub par service. I will be back, but will probably ask for particular servers. read more

I've been to Daisy's garage twice and both times I've been very satisfied with the food and the service. I love hot and spicy food and the fish tacos were definitely that. I came for lunch with a party of 4 on July 3rd. It wasn't crowded, which was nice. We were seated immediately and the service was very friendly and prompt. I love places with peanuts on the table so I can start eating right away. But, you know, if your allergic, that might be an issue. Pretty much everything on the menu sounded great and a friend recommended the blackened Mahi so I got it on a salad. I really enjoyed this salad. The fish was really tasty and the salad was loaded with tons of other vegetables, cheese, and good stuff. And warning: salads are LARGE! I had to take half of mine to go. Others in my party got the philly cheese steak, grilled mahi sandwich, and another salad. All of us were very satisfied with our meals and I can't say it enough, the service was super friendly. read more

I'm not someone who complains and I have never felt to need to publicly share my feelings, but I had an experience with the Daisy's garage manager today that upset me enough to put my feelings in writing. I wanted to take lunch to my niece and her husband who just had a baby. I knew I had a small window of time because her 1:00pm visit with another family. Because it was very close to her house, I called Daisy's Garage at 11:40am and placed an order and was told by the manager the food would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I arrived at Daisy's to pick it up at 12:00pm. The staff rang up my order and told me it was almost ready. The manager and two other staff were very nice and apologized a couple times because it seemed to be taking a while to get the food. At 12:25pm I texted my niece to tell her I still didn't have the food. And by this time I was quite upset and I cry when I am frustrated, mad, or upset which is embarrassing. The manager came up to me and said he didn't know 2 large parties were coming in when he took my call and said he would go to the kitchen and push my order through. I explained to him that it may too late. My niece then texted me back and said they could find something else to eat before their guests arrived. The manager came out with my food at 12:30pm, handed it to me and apologized. I was shocked that he didn't offer to make it right in any way. I walked to to the door and decided to come back and talk to the lady who had been helping me, I told her at this point I needed to just get a refund. She said she would have the manager refund my money but said I should just keep the food. She took me to the manager, placed the food on the bar and said he would refund my money. He went to the register and came back to me and said he refunded the money and then grabbed the bag of food and walked away. When I was leaving the other lady looked at me funny and I said he kept the food. She looked surprised and profusely apologized. The cost of the food was $47.00 plus I gave a tip which did not appear to be refunded. This makes me sad because I love the food here but it will be very difficult to go back or recommend it to someone else with that kind of treatment. I am giving the man grace because he did what he thought was right. I hoped someone else was able to enjoy the food and that it did not get thrown away. read more

We visited Daisy's garage on a slow Tuesday night and were unimpressed with the service and the food. The tator tots were way too salty and the fish was overcooked. We also ordered the clams which were not meaty at all. The waitress was unfamiliar with the menu- she didn't know if the shrimp was grilled or breaded in the tacos, didn't know any of the beers and didn't properly explain happy hour when we ordered our beers. The beer was not cold and nothing was done to check the keg or anything to fix the issues. There are so many other locally owned options in our area... we will visit those next time. read more

Just ate at Daisy's Garage for the 1st time and was excited to try this breakfast place in our neighborhood. It went wrong right out of the gate when the server took our drink order and then we didn't see her again for 20 minutes. She then took our food order and we waited over a half an hour for it to arrive. When it finally did, the hash browns were the worst I ever tasted. They were soaked in grease and horribly over cooked. It's hard to even describe how bad they were. My husband had same and neither one of use could eat them. In addition, my husband had ham and it tasted horrible as well---like it was saturated in grease. Ham looked like several slices of lunch meat slapped together. When we told the waitress, she stated she would discount our food. She came back and slapped the ticket on our table without saying a word. We will never go to Daisy's again because of the food AND service. It's hard to ruin a breakfast but Daisy sure did!! read more

Really disappointed. I wanted to like this place. Good atmosphere and probably fun to grab a drink. With that being said we ordered the sliders and cheese fries. The food took about an hr and was mediocre to say the least. The fries were not cooked all the way and the sliders were subpar. I did however like my pulled pork slider. Now as For the service the waiter was attentive but wasn't to friendly. He may have been pissed at the cooks. So $40 later for 8 sliders cheese fries and 3 cokes oh and $2 for a side of ranch I would say we probably won't be back. read more

Coming to Daisy's Garage has always been a tradition in my family whenever we come to Cedar Rapids. I'll have to admit this time was a disappointment, we heard that they moved locations and of course it being a tradition we decided to come. We came in ordered and everything was fine except it took us an hour to get our food. My mom got the crab steam pot and when it came out it came out fairly cold. The food was good not amazing but decent, but because of the wait time and the cold food I don't believe we will be returning. read more

I've driven by multiple times and this place is always packed, however after eating there, I don't understand what the hype is about. I had 'The Standard' burger and my fiancé had wings. They were nothing special whatsoever. The place was absolutely packed and we waited for about 20 minutes to get seated. There is not any room for people to wait so we stood outside in the cold. I would like to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt, but my fiancé and I agree there wasn't anything there worth coming back for. I hope they can make some better changes. read more

We went there for breakfast this morning and noticing the menu was the same as Riley's menu (for breakfast) thought it would be good. How wrong was I, my wife and got the same dish ( Tex Mex Shipwreck) she asked for no onions and I asked for no jalapeños. Only did they not put jalapeños on mine and onions on hers, we also did not get any black beans and there was no salsa and neither of us got any meat with our meals. The menu is very good on describing what we should've got on our shipwrecks. Mine looked like the cooks knew they messed up and just drowned my plate in there cheese sauce to hide what it was missing. I was not charged for my meal which our server was quick to offer. This place is really cool. It has a bucket of peanuts in the shell in which you can get a good scoop from and spend some time busting them open into a small container on your table while you wait. The food was good and the service was also excellent. They have a decent selection of food from seafood to burgers to BBQ. Price was about what you would expect with most meals around $10. What I found the most enjoyable was the music. Excellent selection of classic rock and didn't play a song that was bad. Definitely going to come back and try something else. read more

Tater tots and two for ones keep me coming back. Located across the street from Coe with barely any parking, Daisy's location isn't great and the restaurant is half bar, half dining room. It's sort of weird; but it works. Bowls of peanuts on every table gives you something to nibble on whether drinking or eating. The menu is traditional bar food with a few upgrades like Po Boys and huge pots of seafood. They have taken some risks serving crab legs and crawfish in Iowa, but their patrons seem to love to dig in and work for their food. I usually go for a reuben or Cuban with a side of tots. Wings aren't great. Tower of tots were pretty gross, but the good kind of gross. Fried pickles were decent. Service is variable and depends on the day. I basically like the joint, but no stand outs. read more

My husband checked with the waitress, and when the manager saw him coming she dashed for the back room so she wouldn't have to get involved. I visited Daisy's for a lunch meeting and it was good. I ordered the beer battered shrimp and a side salad. The shrimp weren't that flavorful, but the cocktail sauce covered that up nicely. The side salad I ordered was pretty large, so I ended up full from my meal. My lunch mate ordered fish taco with mahi mahi and a side of fries. One thing I don't like, all entrees are served al la carte. Another thing, there is no steamed veggie option, which would pair nicely with fried shrimp or fish tacos. Last thing, the red beans and rice are not good. I inquired about them and the waitress advised against them and offered a sample. It's not authentic, maybe Zatarain's box mixture not done according to instruction?! Overall, it was a good lunch. They also served breakfast all day. The menu is huge, so you could probably find something you would love. I would return and try more of their fresh seafood options and hope they wow me. read more

This is a good new concept for CR, a seafood and beer place. They are things that need to be worked out. I expected more since this is not a first food establishment for the owners. Atmosphere: fun, laid back, and quirky. This place is Fireball crazy! Bottles on bottles on bottles. Negative part, one man followed us from the bar to our cars parked in the back parking lot. He was asking us for money. It was creepy out there in the dark and that's the last thing I want at a restaurant, to be haggled. Beer: the selection was great. The Tangerine beer I'd order again. They made a pretty decent by moscow mule too. Service: waitress was good for being the only one on the floor, she was attentive. Food: we got a big steam pot with mussels, clams, crab legs, and crawfish.. Served with melted butter. This is were it went wrong. the seafood lacked flavor.. so bad. Crawfish was overcooked because it comes frozen, turned rubbery. The corn you can tell was NOT fresh. It was most likely frozen, the texture was really mushy. read more

Visited a week ago on a Sunday around 11:30 to have breakfast. The place wasn't real busy at the moment, but I took a seat and waited about 15 minutes for the server. I ordered my usual Riley's breakfast, The Classic, with hash browns, ham steak, and rye toast. It's always a solid choice from Riley's, and a hard one to mess up. It took 45 minutes to get to me, and the plate was so hot to touch, I knew it had been sitting prepped for a good portion of that time. The ham was some kind of lunch meat, not the bone-in cut I'm used to, and the hash browns were a combination of too done and under done. I was disappointed because I know they generally do better. All that could be forgiven, but I also got the pleasure of listening to employees complaining about their job and their customers while I waited with empty drinks and no food. If you don't like your job, that's okay. But you should never talk about it in front of customers. Make a change or STFU. read more

Always on the hunt for a great breakfast, we drove ourselves up to Cedar Rapids on a Sunday morning. We were actually headed someplace called Riley's garage, only to pull up to it and find it deserted. Turns out a fire - or something like that - had forced them down the street to Daisy's. If you look for Daisy's on the web, it will seem like they only serve lunch and dinner, but, trust me, they open early and serve breakfast. You can park in front, on the street, but there is also a parking lot in back. We entered through the wrong door, but traipsed our way to the back and the right person. We did not have to wait for a table, which was nice since the place looked pretty packed. The breakfast was outstanding. I had the french toast, which was excellent. The bacon was thick and flavorful, the eggs were fluffy, and the coffee was rich. All in all, worth a second trip. Hubs had a skillet. I think it was actually called a shipwreck, but it was eggs in a skillet, scrambled with lots of meats. Lots and lots of meats. Then topped with gravy, which he said gave Southern gravy a run for its money. High praise from a Southern boy in the frigid North. read more

Ok, loved this place when it was "Butcher Block". On Thursdays, they had tenderloin specials. Unreal! They were huge! I often take customers out to lunch, and every time they ordered the tenderloin. The ones from out of state would take pictures of their plates because they couldn't believe the size! Then the transition. Now it is on the daily menu..... Now it's tiny. Barely bigger than the bun. (Disappointing) Thinner, and about half the size. Not impressive at all. I stopped taking customers there because if this. They used to ask to go there every time they were in town. We won't be back. I ordered a $15 plate of shrimp. No sides came with it which was odd I asked and knew this before I ordered but expected it to be a big plate of shrimp then. It came and it was a small basket of shrimp I would expect from a bowling alley for $6. I ordered Buffalo fries. Came to the table naked. Fine whatever eating them. The waiter came to the table and realized there was no buffalo sauce on them and literally took the plate right out from under me as I was eating one without asking. Comes back with the same fries just covered.....like a soup now.....in COLD buffalo sauce. I sent them back and asked for the naked fries again. They need a beer list as well. The waiter had zero knowledge of the beer on tap and told my husband to walk up to the bar bc he had no clue. I will say it takes a lot to disappoint me. I'm just happy not to have to cook at home and eating out is a treat and rare. Needless to say last night was a huge disappointment. We will not be back. read more

Great atmosphere, fried pickles were amazing. Very decent price. Waitress was very attentive. We had the Rachel and the Guiness shrimp both of which were very good. Many different sauce choices for the shrimp and they were very tasty as well. Overall it was a good experience I wish maybe there were a little more on the burger choices but other then that it was a very good place to try out. read more
