Thank you but no thank you. I've been wanting to check this eatery out but with hours of operation and my schedule, it is often missed. Today I was in luck! The order was called in (super friendly young lady) and was ready within 20 minutes. Catfish, potato salad, cabbage. Very eager to grab a fork and dig in. Cabbage was fresh but not seasoned. The potato salad base was flavorful but when mixed in with the potatoes it lost its touch. The potatoes had a weird gritty texture as if they were boiled a day or two before. I could have done without both. Catfish- well seasoned, perfect crunch! No tartar sauce or hot sauce? For $25, I had higher expectations. I do look forward to trying Dakari's out again in the future to change this review.

My second chance I have given this business & both times disappointed. This food was absolutely not flavorful, not tasty and just down right bad. What a waste! The Mac and Cheese seemed like a box of Kraft. The Brown stew chicken was atrocious. The cornbread was nothing more than someone's brilliant idea of a let's try to be unique epic fail, it was noticeably made with purely cake mix not cornbread textured at all. This is not it & they need to do better. I know everyone's taste buds are different, so try at your own risk. I will not return.

Desiring fried fish but none in the fridge...I trusted Yelp to guide me (In the spirit of transparency I was on the search for an ice cream sundae-Yelp reminded me of my review a couple of years ago-leading me to Edgewood, which made me think of fish, and the usual conv store has changed its hours)..... so, back to Dakari Less than a mile from ice cream I called to confirm hours of operation and fish options. Pleasant interaction over the phone, I chose whiting and two sides: Mac n cheese and grilled broccoli. I advised that I might be delayed (due to ice cream) and she was kind enough to say they would wait a bit before frying so it would still be hot when I got there! 30min or so from closing the limited seating restaurant was empty, but one patron was outside in his car waiting. I was able to walk in, snap a few pics, pay, and walk out w no issues. I did ask for tartar sauce (packs only) and seemingly they ?don't have hot sauce? Not sure how a soul food restaurant doesn't offer hot sauce...maybe just not to-go? Honestly, I was still full from the sundae, but it looked so good I had to nibble a bit-glad I did, and looking fwd to actually eating the entire meal Don't waste your time trying to eat the Mac n cheese w the plastic fork they give you-TOO CHEESY AND THICK (like i like). The grilled broccoli had an interesting seasoning...not simply salt snd pepper. The fish was coated and seasoned with almost a "fried chicken coating, not as crispy but very tasty Nothing needed extra seasoning and the cornbread was moist and sweet I'll def return to try other "soul food items" to confirm this wasn't a one-time thing Seems they've only been open a couple of years, and per the website there's a location in florida and one in Brooklyn- so a semi chain? In hindsight I didn't see whiting on the online menu; glad she gave me an option Menu also shows lots of wing options as well as jerk...we shall see .

3rd visit So i stopped in on this raining afternoon and grabbed lunch. Hits- The lake trout was delicious. Hot and crispy and perfectly seasoned. 4 stars Collard greens - they were even more yummy than the last time. 5 stars Cornbread- sooooo good! If you like sweet cornbread (who doesn't) you'll love it! Misses Potato salad - so i guess maybe they don't use mustard and if so barely any. There was hardly any flavor and the chunks just too big. Lemon cake- the cake abs icing had good flavor but seemed a bit stale. Perhaps it was a few days old. Even after letting it sit for a bit it didn't get any better I love the fact we have a black owned soul food restaurant in HC. Excited to try the all you can eat seafood Thursday and Sunday brunch.

Honey Old Bay Wings with Fries

I did a quick carryout order of wings and fries. The wait was not long at all. OMG! The honey old bay wings were plump juicy and glazed to perfection!!!! Don't miss out on the cornbread!!! Soft and moist almost like a desser

    This is the email flyer.

I have been a long-time customer and supporter of Dakari's in Edgewood. My family was treated like family there and we are happy to support good black businesses, although the food was sometimes hit or miss. However, as a VIP member I received the Prime Rib Special flyer attached via email. I called in my order just before closing at 6 (web site said 8). I picked up the order, paid, tipped, and was even told "That's a big old prime rib you got there" on my way out the door... Imagine my surprise when the other picture attached was what I found when I got home and opened the bag. I didn't expect it to look exactly like the flyer but I've never known ANY beef to be made of white meat or any prime rib to be that small. It was a pork chop...not "juicy", "well marbled", "high quality roast cut", or "thick sliced" like it says on the flyer. It wasn't even beef, and btw, I also ordered a "salad" that looked like the peppers, onions, and lettuce they put on steak subs and burgers, thrown in a container. When I called back the next day to tell them I paid for prime rib but got a pork chop and to get my money back, the man on the phone insisted that if it had a bone sticking out of it, it was prime rib. I wasn't born yesterday. Cows have bones and so do pigs. I told him it was white meat, just like a pork chop. He wouldn't back down and I didn't want to lose it with him over the phone, so I told him he just lost a loyal customer and family. I love Dakari's story and really wanted to support them but to be insulted by the cook and then by the staff, not to mention $35 dollars for a pork chop, that's the last straw. I can't care for a business that thinks so little of me.

    Sage turkey wings

The food was disgusting soul food my ass I paid almost $50 for that bullshit!! Then when I complained they only refunded for the slivered pieces of fish they called lake trout but not for that smothered turkey that tasted like straight sage!!!! I'm from the south and this is unacceptable never seen or tasted such mess!!! Then have the nerve to over charge I paid $16.99 for slivers of fish and extra for the sides Smfh!

I'm not sure that I've ever had smothered pork chops as tender as these…read more I ordered via Uber and my order arrived within the hour. I ordered the smothered pork chop dinner with a side of rice and gravy and collard greens, and I added add'l sides of sweet potato casserole and stuffing (for an additional fee for each.) Like I said, the smothered pork chops were extremely tender. I didn't even need a knife, I honestly could have used a spoon to eat them. The gravy could have used a tad more salt or chicken bouillon, but the flavor was good and the gravy had a good consistency. The collard greens were really good. I'm not sure whether or not they use meat, but I liked them. I absolutely loved the sweet potato casserole. It was very sweet, just like I like it. The cornbread dressing was good, but I should've gotten my gravy on top of it to keep it super moist. Next time I will do it with the gravy on top. I have no notes-- the next time I'm in the Baltimore area and craving soul food, I know where to go

The staff both on the phone when I called to confirm hours, since it was Super Bowl Sunday, and in person are great. It's a cute venue to get together and enjoy food and fellowship. I actually did a two step entering to the song that was playing. :-) My food was enough to share. I didn't want to be greedy. (smile) The macaroni and sweet potatoes are amazing. The turkey wings were delicious. I'll hold on the gravy next time. I like my poultry on the darker side. The number and address is already saved for a return visit. I'll be back Lord's willing. This place was different. I went with my mom so that we can both try it out. When we pulled up the place was closed. We sat there a few minutes while I searched for the restaurant on google. Google had the closing time for this place a 9. So, I called the number on the sign outside of the restaurant. It said the number wasn't in service. I tried again just to make sure I dialed the right number. I got the same outcome. I was about to leave but, I wanted to see the number google had on file for this place. As I started to look the number up on google, a car pulled up. I wanted to see where the person was going since no other shop but the barbershop was open. The person didn't get straight out of the car, so I called the number that google had on file and a woman answered. I asked what time will the place close and she said around 6pm. I said ok then hung up. Next thing I see the woman in the car that pulled up a little earlier get out of the car and unlock the door to the restaurant. That woman ended up being the owner. She was very kind. She informed us that she was making deliveries because no one wanted to come out during this caronavirus scare. I understood. Especially being a small business. I work for my dad who have a small business and I know sometimes you don't have the money to hire help. Anyways, I did inform her that I had a restaurant.com voucher. She told us that she that she doesn't accept the voucher. She also told me that she's never taken these vouchers in her 6 years of business. Additionally, she said she's contacted restaurant.com and informed them that she didn't accept them. I was slightly disappointed because she didn't honor the voucher. But I tried to look at it like I supporting another black owned business. When we went to pay, the owner wasn't sure how to use her payment system. After trying my card several times it didn't take, we tried my mom's card and she finally got it to work after several tries.By the time we got finished paying, the food was cold. I think that I can speak for myself and my mom that the food wasn't that good and wasn't worth the $22 we paid for a fish sandwich and 4 wings with two sides. The only thing I liked was the chicken but it did have a few feathers on it and the potato salad was ok. I had to ask her to put my potato salad in a separate container from the hot chicken ( when it was hot). Anyway, when I got back home I looked up the restaurant's website. I saw a link to restaurant.com to purchase discounted vouchers. I then contacted restaurant.com. I'll post a pic of that convo. They just responded to me and I was very disappointed at what I read. So, the owner basically lied to me. I think it's shameful that she would advertise discounted vouchers then say that she doesn't accept them. I can speak for myself and my mom, we won't ever come back. Certainly wasn't worth my trip there.
