Dakin is the best for their meats! Especially their Cobb smoked ham and bacon. But stay away from their Macaroni and Cheese. Mac and cheese is such a treat for me...I was sure theirs would be great with the Cabot cheese they sell. It was by far the worst Mac and cheese I have ever had. The base is like a flour and water with cornstarch ... no cheese taste. No stringy cheese ... blah. I didn't even eat my portion as I did not want empty calories. Stick with their meats. read more

Love this place. The staff sometimes seems less than enthused to be there, maybe you can limit your interaction or catch em on a good day? Truth is, there is plenty going on here to distract you. A endless plethora of Vermont Made products fill the interior Dakin Farm. Sample your way through sausages, cheeses, spreads, dips, jams, jellies, dressings and more. Everything is for sale and there are some absolute gems in there. Don't forget to get a Maple frozen yogurt, hopefully it doesn't come with an eye roll like mine did last time. Worth a stop for sure and also worth picking up some goods for snacking in the car (pork and beef sticks in the cool case and some local cheddar cheese), the products they sell are top notch. read more

I visited Vermont for the first and was absolutely blown away by how beautiful the place is! Although I spent most of my time in Burlington I would like to believe the entire state is that gorgeous and friendly! Dakin farm was a last minute stop on our way back home and I am so thrilled we made it. All of the samples they had out were delicious, I wanted to buy it all. I wound up purchasing Maple Zucchini Relish, a block of smoked Vermont cheddar, and of course some maple syrup. Along with 2 dried sausages and some crackers. Everything is incredibly fresh and tasty! The staff was very helpful and friendly. The store was so well organized and welcoming. I would recommend Dakin Farms to anyone looking for farm fresh food! read more

This was a very pleasant surprise on my trip from Burlington to Middlebury on US Hwy 7. It is literally too cute to pass up. And when you walk in, it is an unbelievable experience that will put all of your senses on overload. You will be blown away by all of the wonderful samples of meats, cheeses, snacks, jellies, syrups. I am so glad that I held off on breakfast, because I literally filled up on the samples of all the wonderful local foods that they sell and make here. But they have a lot more than food, they have books, clothing, and all other sorts of locally made Vermont merchandise. Truly one of the great things about Vermont is how much they promote stuff made in the state and how all of the local businesses carry each other's merchandise. It's like going back to a much simpler, better time. And everything here was reasonably priced. I got about six different things to snack on and it was about $20. And it was all very yummy! The staff is very friendly and very helpful. Definitely worth the stop or even the detour to this place! read more

Excellent cubano snack meat sticks that are cob smoked! The maple flavor is so delicious! We went here this weekend and were visiting family that live in VT and this place is always a go to! Excellent meats! Bought a spiral sliced maple turkey that I can't wait to eat! The smoked cheeses are excellent, friendly customer service and delicious free samples! The flavor of the products here is unreal how amazingly delicious the quality is! The variety and selection has something for everyone; hams, sausages, cheeses, meat snack sticks, other fun products like local maple syrup, etc.! They have mail order and do shipments; could make great holiday/gift ideas! Unbelievable store and very warm and welcoming Feel, ample parking and location is very pretty area with lots to explore! A trip to VT cookie love a few minutes down the road could be a good go to as well when you're in this area!!! read more

Have to say we were completely disappointed with this stop. There are sugarhouses and gift stops selling maple and other food products, as well as souvenirs, ALL over the state of Vermont. Because we were passing close by, this was recommended by a B&B host because they apparently smoke their own meats and sell their own cheese in addition to selling the cheeses of other producers. We arrived at 5pm after driving for several hours. There were at least 3 employees present who appeared to be preparing to close - sweeping, wiping, and vacuuming - even though their posted closing time was an hour away at 6pm. No one said a word to us even after several minutes of walking around the fairly large store getting an idea of the offerings. The only words said to us the entire time we were there were in response to us asking if they were closing at that moment, since all the employee activity was focused around that. Nothing was said about the products, no samples were offered, and everything was cleaned up as if the doors were about to be locked. In contrast, we stopped down the road at Mt Pleasant Sugarworks, in Leicester, where we were able to talk to one of the owners about the industrial quality equipment they sell to maple producers, and ended up buying over $70 of maple products processed and produced by their family, the Hutchisons. Donna Hutchison's depth of knowledge about the process and the industry was near encyclopedic and well worth the stop if you really want to know how maple syrup is made. read more

The one-star is given because they weren't able to grant any promo codes on online orders. I've ordered from other companies (food, etc) & they have promo codes & even offer free shipping. Then the person that helped me said my order didn't total over 50.00 because I did three separate orders, which were going to three separate addresses, but billing was all to my credit card! What? Nothing but a storefront to sell their products. The "Sugar House" Is just a hot room with some out-of-service sugar house equipment. The "Smoke House" is just a big window looking in on the meat packers. Most of the products for sale can be sourced cheaper at other area farms or stores. Basically, its a tourist trap. read more

They advertise their smoked meats. You'd think they'd put some out as samples. You'd think incorrectly. Their sample selection was paltry. Empty bowls were removed by the staff and not refilled. Do they pay the help with the samples they save? Don't waste your time. There are far better places to get cheese, jams, mustards and the like. read more

On our first stop a few years ago, I wasn't very impressed. But our visit yesterday was pleasant. As a sugarmaker myself, I always check syrup prices, and theirs are not out of line, especially for a tourist stop. Nice selection of cheeses and meats from area farms. Best of all, they stock cheap styrofoam coolers, with a coldpack included, so you can keep all your purchases fresh! read more
