We recently had a pool installed by Dakota Pools in Ronkonkoma after a recommendation from a friend. I have to say, we've never had a such a pleasant experience working with a company. They were true to their word from start to finish. We first met with Steve, the owner, who thoroughly went over everything we needed to know about the process of building the pool, the timeline, materials. He worked with us to create the design of the pool making sure he incorporated all of the wishes we had, made excellent suggestions and addressed all of our questions and concerns. Kelly, Marla, Krystal and all the girls in the office were very professional, friendly and extremely organized. They gave us a guideline of when they would call to set an install start date (which was way earlier than expected), when to pick the liner, when the payments were due and all pertinent information that we needed. The pool itself was built in less than 3 weeks. Dakota worked with us on designing the beautiful patio and his guys worked so hard and did an amazing job completing it. Pool and patio were done in exactly four weeks. At the end, Jack came and taught us "pool school" and went over everything on how to maintain and care for the pool. The company did a great job with redoing my driveway and backyard patio with pavers. They did what they said and ripped out all of the old broken concrete and dirt then hauled it all away. During the construction, communication was great, and their workers are definitely top notch. It's been over a month since they finished and I still feel they are professional, they follow through with what was agreed, and I happy with their work product. Working with Dakota Pools was a terrible disappointment. Steve Yonick - the owner - told me that when he was finished resurfacing my pool, it would look brand new. Instead, the diamond brite finish they put on is discolored throughout the pool, there are parts that were applied so thin that there are holes and cracks in it, the grout around the new coping stones are all cracked and several coping stones are loose. When it first became clear that there were problems with new surface, Steve asked me to please pay him in full as he was closing for the season and promised that he would take care of the problem as soon as the season opened. I trusted him so I paid him. Terrible mistake. When the next season came, first no one could come because the weather had set them back on other jobs, and then when we finally made arrangements for the person who did the work to come back, I took the day off and he never showed (the receptionist told me the next day that he had taken advantage of the nice weather to do another job). Then he said he would send in a diver to buff out the spots, then decided a diver wouldn't work so he had me drain the entire pool and they sent in someone from another company (whom they originally told me they didn't know) who literally buffed out a handful of spots but didn't address any of the other issues. Then Steve started telling me it was my fault - that the water chemistry was off which caused the spotting (even though it had been there the prior season when they first did the work), that I caused the holes (diamond brite is a solid cement that's supposed to be applied between 3/8-1//2 inch thick; the area where the holes are are paper thin), that the problem was that my pool had taken 10 days to fill and that was what caused the problems (I have a dedicated water line for the pool; it takes 2 1/2 days to fill), and finally that I was the kind of person who would never be satisfied no matter what he did (which I saw on the BBB site that someone else had written that he had told them the exact same thing). Finally I called the manufacturer and sent them photos - they told me it had not been applied properly and needed to be redone, and gave me the name of 3 companies that had been trained by the manufacturer to install the product. I brought in the owner of one of the companies who looked at the pool and told me I should sue whoever did the work. And so I finally began legal action. Then Steve called my attorney and told me he would like to work something out with me, but has offered nothing except to fabricate reasons why he's not responsible. I really liked him when I met him and was so looking forward to having my pool - which came with the house when we bought it and was stained and unattractive - looking like new. Until this happened, I have never posted a negative review on anyone nor took legal action against anyone, but the work was so bad and his unwillingness to take responsibility for the shoddy workmanship left me no other choice. I would advise anyone looking for an honest pool company to stay far, far away from Dakota Pools. read more

Once the crew came in to dig and prepare the ground it took about two and one half weeks to completely finish the construction. I couldn't be any more satisfied than I am. We redid our pool deck last year and thought we were making the right decision going with a company that does the masonry work as well as everything related to the pool. My wife and I definitely regret our decision to go with this company. A year later i still feel like I completely overpaid for a backyard that isn't anything special. I wonder how much we would've had to pay if we got something amazing. The thing that still gets me is that I had to fight throughout the whole project to get done what was promised because the plans kept changing while being told that it would cost more money. One of the few things that was thrown in at the end was that our pool light/niche was "fixed" and cost us over $900. He said "I didnt know you wanted to keep the light." The light was working fine and would change colors and looked great. After it was fixed, my pool light stopped switching colors and they came back out to tell us its working fine. It was intermittent. Well now this year we opened the pool to see the light had water in it. Not sure what I paid the extra $900 for. The gasket and bulb werent even replaced. Anyway, a year later im still bitter that i spent so much money and not very happy. read more

I'm glad you took the time to respond in your review, that you don't have any knowledge of who NANCY R is, because I, as a business owner have run into Nancy R, and really thought it unusual that Nancy T found her review useful on my page... and then both reviewed your business. I'm pretty sure that they are one in the same... but YELP doesn't care. As a matter of fact, Yelp just wants businesses money to advertise but doesn't really care about the businesses themselves. If I want to respond to Nancy R, YELP now requires that I PUT MY PERSONAL PHOTO on YELP or I am not allowed to respond. I don't put my photo on anything on the internet, I simply use the internet for business, nothing personal at all, yet Yelp is trying to make me post a photo of myself, so that I can respond to fraudulent claims. So good for you for responding to to THE NANCYs. TO CONSUMERS looking for recommendations, use the BBB or Consumer Affairs. They are a legitimate forum for consumers that have an issue with a company, not a forum for consumers to bash a company with NO PROOF! read more
