We read about this place on Yelp, and after being tired of the underwhelming and overpriced food options in Venice, we decided to give it a try. It is not located on the typical tourist paths, so definitely get yourself a good map of Venice with every single street labeled -- you'll need it to navigate to this place.
There was a bit of a line the first time we went for dinner, but it moves very quickly, so don't be deterred if you see a bunch of people milling about (that is just a testament to how good it is!) Dal Moro's is a "build your own pasta" kind of place, offering two different types of fresh pasta and like 8 or so sauces, plus add-ins (meats, cheese, olives, etc.).
After experiencing other restaurants in Venice where the staff seemed to be annoyed by tourists, this place was a breath of fresh air! The person who helped us (a young guy who I think might have been the owner or manager?) couldn't have been nicer or more gracious. He was so friendly, explaining the restaurant's concept to us and even giving us a taste of the fresh pasta.
The first night my husband and I got two pastas -- one with a tomato cream sauce and then one with an olive oil/garlic sauce. Both were ready in a few minutes and were really delicious! You can tell that the pasta and sauces are fresh and homemade. They also give substantial portions...both my husband and I felt sufficiently full after eating. It was a tremendous value too....I think for two pastas and a couple of drinks, it was like 15 Euros...which would barely buy you a single dinner at most restaurants in Venice, nevertheless two.
We liked our pastas so much that we came back for dinner the next day. The same owner/manager who helped us the night before was at the register again, and he remembered us, and greeted us warmly. Such great customer service! The second night we tried one pasta with pesto sauce and one with the four cheese sauce. As with the night before, the pastas were fresh, flavorful, and plentiful.
The pastas come in chinese-food-type containers, and there is a small counter along the back wall at which you can stand and eat your food if there's room. Otherwise, take it to go and walk to find a nice place to sit and eat and people watch. Just don't eat on the bridges -- there is a sign in the restaurant that says sitting and eating on the bridges is illegal and carries a huge fine.
Overall, if you're looking for fast, affordable, filling, and quality meal in Venice -- look no further! read more
