My family has been coming to Dale City Auto for the past 5 years to have our vehicles inspected. They have always provided excellent service and never tried to talk us into any additional services. They would give us accurate information, ie. my tires would need to be replaced soon, but never tried to pressure me into buying anything from them. So when a tire on a different vehicle got a hole, I went to them for help. The manager Max and repairman Andrew quickly accessed the damage and repaired my tire! Went for an inspection and was rejected. When asked for the law to tell us why the inspector failed it he could not reply. Then got manager Ricky who made matters worst. Prior to November 2019, We'd generally had good experiences with Dale City Auto Services. We've been faithful customers for 3 years and I've endorsed them to others and on social media. We like most of the employees too. However, over the last 4 months, I've been through HELL and back with an engine replacement... and the nightmare is not over. A week ago, I finally asked for the garage owner (Diana) to contact me. 1 week later she has not. My issues still aren't resolved and This is 1 day away from ruining the vacation of a lifetime we've been planning for 9 MONTHS!! Diana, it seems you monitor this so PLEASE contact me TODAY. This has gotten dire. If our issues are addressed, I'll remove this review and post a more positive one. Went in to get emission done to my vehicle, the person at the front desk was not wearing his mask properly. He had it under his chin while he was checking in customers at close range. Employees need to wear their mask at least while they have customers in the lobby. read more

THIS DESERVES A ZERO STAR RATING I had the brakes in my 2015 Chevy Equinox replaced by this company. I provided the parts. I have been told by two mechanics that the brakes now need to be replaced, again. Umm, new pads/rotors . (I have the receipt and can prove mileage.). I seriously believe they used my parts on another vehicle. As well, we asked them to replace the front headlight bulbs, of another vehicle. We had to pull the assemblage out to line up the headlights. It had been electrical taped into the socket, instead of properly seated. Pulled it out, put new one in CORRECTLY and boom.....headlights are now aligned. Buyer be very, very aware when using a mechanic. If you can not see what they did, if they don't show you ... you might be taken as a fool. read more

The mechanic comes out and gets an attitude because I was going to go around. I didn't know. I thought maybe the person just parked their car or it was broken down or something. So I stopped using this place for car repairs years ago. The owner or manager named Sami would always give high quotes on repairs. Mind you we all have smart phones now and can see what things cost. I still decided to use this place for inspections. Bad idea. The day I went it looked like they had a new inspector. He failed me saying I had no catalytic converters. I was so dumb founded. For a minute I thought they were stolen. I went home and had a neighbor who's a car guy check under my car and he said by cats were there. I couldn't believe it. Took the car for inspection at another location and passed. I will never use this shop again. I don't even stop there for gas. read more

Marshmallow is likely correct and just got the guys name wrong. I've had similar experiences with this shop for not one, but two vehicles in excellent condition that I've brought by, a 2001 and 2007 each that have had to have their cats replaces over the years. The issue is, regardless of if they properly meet state emissions or not, if the DOT stamp is not visible, the inspector will FAIL you stating that there is no cat. If you have approved LED marker bulbs and they function perfectly, but they weren't original for the vehicle, FAIL. I couldn't even find a VA State inspection code for this. The bottom line, if you have an older vehicle avoid this inspection station it's not worth your time to be failed for reasons not related to your vehicle's safety or function. I started going here last year when I moved to the area and everything was fine under the previous inspector, but no more. Be warned. Update 9/21/2022 Thank you for your response Diana. No explanation necessary. It's simply easier to go elsewhere. This is a "Virginia Safety Inspection" not a stump the chump debate. The function of the inspection is as simple as the title. Further based on the inspectors debate he should go back to the manual for a refresher and focus on safety issues. "The below listed equipment has undergone Virginia's approval requirements; however, there is other aftermarket vehicle equipment from reputable manufacturers not listed here that has already met Society of Automotive Engineers, the American National Standards Institute Incorporated, and/or Department of Transportation approval requirements making its use on motor vehicles legal in Virginia pursuant to VA Code § 46.2-1005. I took my RAV4 for brake checkup, dropped the around 8 AM Saturday/29 May 2021. The front-desk manager called me, stated that front brake pads, calipers, rotors, and rear pads need to be replaced. I have been going to this place since 2012 and blinded trusted the mechanics and previous manager. I was a little taken-back, shared my concern with the front-desk manager and reluctantly agreed. The front-desk manager called again, saying that the calipers that they ordered, did not fit so it will cost more up to $1000.00 Again, I reluctantly agreed. Not hearing, until approx. At 3 PM, I called and learned that my car is ready. Total bill was $1052.80. Somehow, I have been a little uneasy this time. I have been going to this station for many years..... I'll never go back. I don't believe woman are safe using this station. took my very low mileage vehicle in for inspection. I suspect they invent small issues for $$$. seems I needed $48.00 wiper blades (they are $17.99 a pair at the auto store) some mark up. I used my wipers coming to the station, they were fine. not "falling apart". I called them on their dishonesty and employee with reddish beard behind counter didn't like that. (refused to provide his name or the name of owner) declined to charge for wiper's (I've sent electronic payment) and then stated he "hoped I haven't scammed him with my credit card". car shops are notoriously dangerous for women, as we have all experienced. I have a couple of great outlets to share my experience but my neighbor suggested yelp. I could not in good conscience recommend this station to any woman... read more

I will definitely take my car back here for future inspections. I think some women might be able to identify with a reluctance to take the car into a garage for anything (even inspection) because there can sometimes be a patronizing tone in play, but I had the opposite feeling here. Everyone was polite and friendly, everything moved along really efficiently, and I got the sense that they are honest. So glad I found this place. ***Updated as of June 2018: my husband's clutch went out and Dale City Auto came through like champs! They fixed it up in a couple of days (not two weeks of rental car costs like the last time he took it to the dealership for the same issue!) I have lived in Dale City for 19 years and always use this EXXON often for inspections. I have NEVER had an issue that wasn't justified to not pass, that is until today. I have a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu that I have had ownership to for 2 years now. It's been a lot to bring it up to code which has been done. Last year had a lot of issues that were justified to not pass. Got the work done (not by them), brought my car up to par and THEY did my inspection and passed my car. Now with that being said, my car has had nothing else done to change the looks or differ any from last year. Take it today and the guy fails it. HOW? Same car, no difference. Make it make sense. The guy wanted to argue about one of my headlights being loose, okay yes, front end collision damage, but that was also there last year and loose. It passed. The tint on my front windshield, which is only a visor cover, mind you it was already tinted too last year. Same way, nothing different. He says o, it's illegal because it's too low. It doesn't go past my rear view mirror and again was the same way last year. He fails it for that also. They give me the state police number to call, you bet I will be calling, but who you think it'll fall on considering my car has not changed since last year and you passed it, but all of a sudden you fail it this year for something you passed last year. Makes absolutely no sense and is unacceptable!!!!! I will NEVER use this gas station again nor bring my car for ANY type of service, and I will make sure to let my family and friends know how shady and ridiculous this place is. Not to mention rude mechanic who thinks he knows it all and wants the extra pay to redo the inspection. Well not this one buddy, and NEVER again. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE!! I REPEAT, DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE!! I brought my car here to get a diagnostics check because I just wanted to figure out what was going on with my car before I proceeded with a service (that wasn't going to be done by them anyway). I brought my car to this place around 12:30, by 4, I got a call telling me the diagnostics and I got a quote of how much it would be if they fixed it. I WASN'T TOLD ON THIS PHONE CALL THAT ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT HE SAID WAS GOING ON WITH MY CAR! So I go back and pay for the labor and get my keys back. I then go to my car and when I start it, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON!!!! Mind you, this is a 2018 car and I've had it for over 2 years and my check engine light has NEVER come on! RED FLAG!! When I go to put it in reverse to leave, MY CAR IS NOT MOVING AT ALL!!!!!!! No matter how much I pressed the gas, it was not budging! MIND YOU, I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT MY CAR WASN'T MOVING FROM THE TIME I GOT THE PHONE CALL TO PICK MY CAR UP TO THE TIME I GOT MY KEYS BACK! They knew my car all of a sudden was not working now and they failed to mention that to me when they had many opportunities to! He gave me my keys back, let me go to my car knowing it wasn't going to move and waited until I found out myself to say something. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! And then to act nonchalant and laugh in my face and treat this serious matter as a joke IS NOT OKAY! My car was mobile when I brought it to them and all of a sudden, it doesn't move at all? UNACCEPTABLE! Bottom line, they didn't want to own up to the fact that they possibly did something to my car! If I was you, please do your research on auto service places before taking your car there. I will never be bringing my car back and will make sure to tell everybody not to come here! Sitting five cars deep in line for an inspection. The guy inspecting cars is obviously performing maintenance on the car that's in there. The cars been in there for over 45 minutes. Looks like a tire rotation and oil change etc. They should only be performing inspections and emissions. Move the car to another bay to perform work. read more

I have been getting my vehicles inspected at this service station for many years, and I had a couple tires repaired there. When I read some of the other comments about the place, they are diametrically opposite of my experiences. Yes, the inspection lines are sometimes long, but that isn't the inspector's fault. The inspector has a job to do, and when the customer is getting a safety inspection and emissions check, it takes time. When I have my tires repaired, they have always been courteous and did the work as quickly as possible. I do not walk into the place, expecting them to stop everything they're doing to wait on me. read more

I tried Exxon after hearing from a family member that it was cheaper than the BP near Mapledale Plaza. I was a bit surprised to see how comparably empty it was compared to the BP. Overall, it was hard to see what Exxon had a "one up on" compared to BP. It almost seems like Exxon was the gas station that time forgot. The pumps are definitely outdated. You deal with worn out, overused buttons and no clear or easy to read screens. But, besides that fact, the Station needs a little more care. There was trash scattered around the whole station and the trash cans were all overflowing. The big disappointment of the visit was the fact that the price was higher than BP! And even though we're talking cents, if BP can show that it has a bright and somewhat cleaner station, with a more technical logically advanced, newer pump, then I wonder where all the money is going here at Exxon! I don't think I will be trying this place again unless they improve their gas station by providing better prices or take better care of their station. I would only recommend this place if you can deal with below average experiences. read more

Great customer service and beyond fair pricing. I ran over a 3 inch screw (probably in a work zone) and rushed to this place to see if they could repair a tire that was hissing out air. They were closing, but were empathetic, and took on one more car for the day. They removed the screw and repaired the tire in less than 20 minutes, and only charged me 20 bucks. Throughout the process they were kind and professional, and I'm happy to bring them future business. read more

I have used this shop for almost 20 years. I have spent thousands of dollars there and referred dozens of people to them. I have always found them to be honest, reliable and reasonably priced. I guess there is a new owner or they are under new management. Took my car in to get a state inspection on May 19, 2017. It failed for several reasons: One tire needed replacing, broken rear quarter glass window, brake light/signal/reverse light enclosure broken, a few lightbulbs out. No problem, I knew it would fail. So I asked them for an estimate on repairing the items. They seemed as if I were greatly inconveniencing them and told me I'm better off going to a junkyard to get the quarter glass window and brake light enclosure. They also gave me an estimate on the new tire but not the labor. Didn't give me much guidance on junk yard either. No problem I can find a junkyard, so I did and got the parts. Took longer than expected to get the parts but I finally got them. It already passed the 15 day state rejection time. So I really needed to get my car repaired. So I called Exxon again let them know that I finally got the parts and ask them for the estimate so I would know how much to budget. They acted like they never even heard of me before and that I was a great inconvenience to them. I explain to them that they had failed me on a state inspection and I needed to get the following repairs. The guy on the phone was very rude and seem to be impatient and bothered. He told me I would receive a call back about the estimate. A couple days passed and I never heard anything so I called back and got the same treatment again. Once again the acted like they had no idea who I was or why I was calling them. So I finally decided to just drop the car off at their shop so I could get it repaired. I drop the car off on Monday, June 12, 2017. And once again they acted as if they had no idea who I was and didn't understand why I was dropping the car off. The guy behind the desk was impatient and rude. They finally seemed to get it and told me they would call me shortly with the estimate. It is now Wednesday, June 14 and I called them back to get the estimate and once again they were rude and acted like they had no idea while I was calling. He asked me what were the items that needed to be repaired. I told them that I already wrote them all down when I drop the car off (not to mention told them 4 different times) and that they have them and that I was driving and did not have them in front of me. And once again they told me they would call me back. No thank you. I will take my car, future business and referrals elsewhere. (06/14/2017) Update (06/15/2017): So I never heard anything back and as planned I went to the shop around 11:30 AM to pick my car up and take it somewhere else. This was 4 days after I dropped it off and never received a phone call back with the estimate and 2+ weeks after I had made several phone requests for an estimate. I get there to find out they already did all of the work except repairing the broken window?! I told the guy "you never called me with the estimate". He gave me a pretty lame apology and blamed it on some employee that wasn't there. So I said "fine, since you already did the work when can you install the window?" Hey said they would do it in a couple hours. He still didn't provide me with an exact quote but said "it would be around $500". I received a call later that day at 4:22 PM stating my car was ready to be picked up. It obviously took more than "a couple hours" which was fine because I didn't have the time to pick it up early anyways. So I made arrangements to get a ride to the shop and arrived later that day at about 8 PM. The mechanic shop was closed but you can always go inside the gas station to pay. And as I pulled up I noticed a piece of paper with a hand written note taped to the door that stated: "cash only, no credit card". So I go in and confirm with the guy at the cash register and he stated the machine was broken and that I had to pay cash only. I told him I'm not sure what the bill even is and that it's probably somewhere around $500. He wasn't blatantly rude, but seem to have a bit of an attitude, again, like I was inconveniencing him. So he pulls up my file and says "$496". He said "you will just have to come back tomorrow to pay". I said "I'll try the ATM machine to see if it will allow me to take that much out". I went ahead and tried their ATM machine anyways, since I went through the trouble to have someone give me a ride and I needed my car. They have a small crappy, slow, ATM machine that only allowed me to withdraw a max of $200 per transaction. It charged me $2.50 per transaction and I had to do 3 transactions to get the $500. Decent place. I needed my car inspected. It was a little confusing where to put my vehicle in order to get inspected but I talked to the people in the office and they guided me where to go. The process took about 15 minutes once my vehicle was seen. All of the attendants were very courteous. I will take my car back to this place for my next inspection. read more

This place is the worst. My vehicle hasn't had any refrigerant added since 3years ago and it was time to add as it wasnt feeling as cold. I went in to ask how much they charge to add refrigerant and pierre quoted me $150!! To simply add refrigerant to my vehicle and immediately diagnosed my car with a leak without even looking at it. This place is awful and simply wants to make an upsell and take your money. I hope no one gets fooled by this place because this is not a place you can trust. I would've taken my vehicle to my mechanic however he closes by 4pm on Saturdays and does not operate on Sundays and he only charges $35 to add refrigerant. MY mechanic told me If i couldn't wait till Monday I could go to any local mechanic and ask them to add refrigerant. Well this was my experience with Dale city Auto services. To top it off Pierre even said he wouldn't look at my vehicle if I didn't pay the $150! Such a shady place I live 2min away, walking distance, the place is always empty and they just recently update their unusable gas pumps. All I can say is stay away from their awful mechanic shop I can guarantee you they are not honest people and will find fake problems with your vehicles to simply make an upsell. I use to work as an HVAC technician and no longer have my gauges as I sold them when I left the career field and it is simply absurd to charge a customer $150 to add 5oz worth of refrigerant to a vehicle. I used to charge $150 to add refrigerant to an ac unit that was a 3ton which took in about 6pounds of refrigerant. I will not recommend this shady place to anyone and will advise everyone to stay away. You've been warned! Had to get my inspection done. This station is huge! They have pumps, 4 garage bays, convenient store, and car wash. The inspection took only 10 minutes!!! Very fast and friendly service. They perform a variety of repairs on both domestic and foreign, although I haven't taken my car to them for any repairs since I do most of my repairs on my own. Plus their gas prices are cheap compared to others, and they go down even more if you purchase a car wash. By the way, their cheapest car wash is $5! wow! read more

Took my 2013 Volvo there for safety inspection only- they failed it for what they said was my fog lights not working- I asked the guy if it was just a bulb and can we replace it- he sent out the mechanic who told me it would cost $90 just to determine what was wrong with the fog lights, so I took the rejection sticker because I was in a hurry. Next day I took the car to Merchants, thankfully, who told me that there was no problem at all with my fog lights! I called Exxon and left 5 different messages for a manager or supervisor who apparently never works?! Still no return call 2.5 weeks later! So not only do they improperly fail me, they also tried to gouge me for $90 to figure out what the problem was, when there wasn't one! Never did get my $16 back either! This place was GREAT when "Mr. Mike" headed the garage. However, he recently left and the most mundane services can't be completed to satisfaction (when someone brings their tire in for being flat, why wouldn't you check the stem, for example?) Worst customer services ever. My wifes goes ealier in the day to get her inspection done, sees the line and decided to comeback because my son had a game. She comes back 30 min before they close to do the inspection is the 3rd car in line and the tec comes out saying that he is not going to do it after 15min go by. The tec comes out yelling saying that he is not going to do the car yelling at my wife. I approach the tec to let him know that she was told to bring the car before 4pm and we did. No reason for him to come out with that tone of voice and with an attitude. Then i talked to the manager while the tec was still running bis mouth...really you have ppl like that working for you? The guy was a jerk. The manager didn't do anything. I will never go back to that gas station. Terrible customer service. read more
