The crab claws were the star... flavorful, and seasoned just right with that classic Cajun kick. Paired it with a drink and it made for a super laid-back, satisfying brunch vibe. Not sure about this restaurant. A few years ago it was booming...but the last couple times we were there, we could count the number of patrons on one hand. We drive by there a lot, and the parking lot is seldom crowded. The vibe is a lot different than it used to be. Food was so so...I forget what my husband had, but he didn't like it and doesn't want to go back. My husband's birthday was on 2/2, and he wanted to meet up with friends for dinner the Sunday before. We decided to meet here because we had not been here in a really long time. This gem of a restaurant is in the Patron Creek shopping center. The inside was very lively, and it seemed smaller than when we came last. We had a party of 6 people and were seated quickly. The server was super nice and shared his recommendations with us when we asked. My husband (the birthday boy) ordered the Voodoo Chicken, and I ordered the Redfish Rockefeller. Our friends ordered gumbo, shrimp and grits, pasta alfreadeaux, and I don't remember what the other person ordered. Everyone was very happy with their orders. My redfish was super flavorful and I cleaned my plate. You know when the conversation gets quiet, the food must be delicious! My husband wanted the Crème Brûlée cheesecake to go and he said it was tasty. The only issue we had was the length of time it took for our extra order to get processed. After a while, we learned the frying oil was being changed and it would take a while to heat back up. We thought that someone should have told us something earlier. But it all worked out. Unfortunately Cajun Steamer has changed... and not in a good way. - Spinach dip wasn't Cajun and instead was kinda like warm glue. - Voodoo Chicken was covered in balsamic glaze, thankfully the topping could be pushed to the side - the grouper tacos seem to have been impacted by shrink-flation, only 2 tacos and can only be ordered fried with fries (previously it was 3 tacos with a choice of sides); additionally the fries are under seasoned, limp and cold - the Cajun trio, however, was the problem... the gumbo was rice and broth with 2 pieces of sausage, the etouffee and jambalaya were cold and returned to the kitchen. Unfortunately 1 person in our group left dinner still hungry and there wasn't an effort to make it right other than to remove the in-editable food from the check. Cajun Steamer was on a list of places to try while in the Birmingham area. So try we did. It gives sports bar vibes, and it wasn't too crowded for a Thursday night. Our server, AJ was very nice and attentive. We ordered the seafood pasta and blackened redfish. The pasta was pretty good, and the redfish was well-seasoned. It also came with white rice and broccoli, and paired well with the lemon butter sauce. We ordered the beignet bites. Those were a bit disappointing. They were overcooked and on the tough side. Visited 7/19 and Ryah was great! We were greeted and great service from the start. We had fried clams and cocktails - all amazing! The food we ordered was amazing - Redfish Rockefeller, Fish Tacos and Okra, Etouffee & Oysters Boiler! Fantastic. And the beer was cold! We met Lee and had a great chat all things LA! They did give a good amount of crab legs and they were cracked ready to eat. But the taste was just okay. We ordered the boil shrimp and carb platter. They were out of mussels and it was craw dad season. Again a good portion but taste was just okay. Some shrimp seemed old, kind of soft tasting. We came in on a Sunday afternoon and were quickly seated. The waitress was fairly nice, but a little scatter-brained, but did check on us often. We were told the highchairs would reach a booth, but they did not, so we moved to a table. But the sun was in everyone's eyes the whole time, and none of the staff ever thought to lower the blinds, despite us having to shield our eyes and hear our children complain. Eventually, right as we left, they started closing them. Thanks for that... The food itself was good. I got the pasta alfredeaux with blackened chicken. I think my son ate as much of it as I did - he ended up eating his grilled cheese the next day instead. My daughter loved her cheeseburger, and my wife liked her tacos as well. Overall, the food was good, but the experience could have been better. Haven't been here in awhile! Was really glad we came for dinner. Everything was great. I got a hurricane to start. Really good drink. Hubby and I decided to get the gator bites as an appetizer. They were really good. For dinner I got the shrimp and grits. This was a light brown sauce. It was delicious. Best I've had in a long time. For dessert, we shared the bananas foster. Best lunch in town Cher. Only $12 you can get 1/2 po'boy or tacos and a cup gumbo or salad. I get the fried shrimp po'boy and seafood gumbo. Oooh weee that is a combination that doesn't get much better! Their po'boys are prepared just like they do in south Louisiana. They use Leidenheimer French bread imported from New Orleans, and the po'boy is "DRESSED" with lettuce, tomato & pickle. A tasty remoulade dressing pulls it all together. Yummy! When you take a bite and pause to take in the flavors and you keep repeating "this is good", you've found a great dish. The side of red beans and rice was tasty. I did not need the hot sauce because it's spicy and flavorful already. We sat inside and they did implement social distancing with regards to skipping a table between patrons. My only concern was at times, the wait staff did not keep their face masks up 100% of the time. When you're taking orders & you're leaning in, the mouth should be covered but they've probably had them on for hours. This is definitely a place to try for brunch. Thet have deals on mimosas, screwdrivers and bloody Mary's. We started with the tuna dip that was so delicious. Comparable to tuna dip at the beach. My bloody mary was a bit too spicey for my taste but my husband drank it. I loved the hangover burger. It was a bit different but definitely worth trying. New bartender was more interested in sitting with her friends and eating than doing her job. Food also went south here. I asked for just vinegar for my salad and no cheese. There was a mountain of cheese and Italian(?)dressing. The chicken was flat as a bad singer and dry like an ancient lake. It's been quite some time since I've updated a review, and these guys are deserving of an upgrade to my previous review. Customer service is still a strong point. The wait staff is responsive to customers needs and do a good job of checking in on you while you are there. Now, the upgrade comes for the quality of food. I've actually been here several times since I previously reviewed these guys. I'm very pleased to say that the overall food experience is exceptional. Just as previously reviewed the overall presentation is always top notch. They also shine as far as overall quality and taste of the food. I had the Voodoo Chicken - stuffed with shrimp and crab - excellent! Also, chose the jambalaya as a side, spot on! They have indoor and outdoor seating option (including a back patio area). They are also dog friendly, so feel free to bring your pups along (if you're eating outdoors). Very happy with the quality of food and service they provide. Highly recommend! read more

Was not great at all. I went with a group of coworkers for a dinner one night. It was a Friday night so we made reservations (called ahead) to come and eat dinner. I was super looking forward to the meal. The mango daiquiri was pretty tart, icy, and was overall just not my favorite. We also got the mashed potatoes, and one of the pastas. The pasta was NOT good. It tasted like the roux was too floured, and the sauce was not flavorful at all. I was very disappointed considering that Cajun style meals are supposed to be packed of flavor, but this lacked so, so much. The servers were sweet, but that's about the best I can say. The bathrooms were also clean. The tacos were ok. The asparagus was not good. It tasted overcooked, no seasoning, and oily. Not sure what happened there. I hoped to like this so much more than I did. The hostess as well as the waitresses were all wearing masks. There was not a crowd and we got seated right away. I started out with a nice cold glass of rose and my friend had a Hennessy on the rocks. I order the same thing every time I come here, build your own catch. This is a must go to spot especially when it's Crawfish season. Let me tell You, the boil of the crawfish is one of the best I have ever had (small tip, ask for extra hot and extraboil YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED but get ready to sweat).
