This diner definitely has character! It's a mom and pop place that may seem a bit dive-ish... but that's what makes it cool! All the staff were friendly, helpful, and cheerful. We had four in our party... we ordered the Abuelas, a mushroom Swiss burger, a smoked turkey sandwich, and a Philly cheese steak sandwich. All were delicious and their homemade buns are great! There's nothing fancy about Dallas Diner. A small place with a few tables on the inside, patio tables outside, and several stools at the counter. The menu is classic diner fare with daily specials. In addition to the extensive regular menu there are menus for kids and seniors. My friend and I ordered off the senior menu. We both had eggs over easy and pancakes. She had bacon, I had the sausage patty. We both had coffee. Everything was prepared as ordered and tasty. And, to my surprise, filling. Service was cheerful, attentive, and helpful. Parking directly in front can be tight but there is adequate parking close by. A great place for breakfast. I'll try lunch another day. read more

Once again, a good morning at The Dallas Diner. Really, what made our experience is the wait staff. Everyone is so kind. Bringing my mom in is a bit of a challenge and they were so patient with us. My coffee cup was NEVER empty and our water glasses were kept full. I ordered the migas and it was good! Other orders at our table; tacos, pork chop, pancakes, breakfast burrito... all good! Solid breakfast game with all the typical breakfast foods one would expect in Dallas including basics and TexMex options. Today we tried something completely different ...lunch. Enchiladas verdes were perfectly fiery with homemade salsa verde and the beans and rice were "old school" tasty. Chicken finger basket was the other order for our party which came out crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside with a side a hand cut fries. Service was on point today. Sometimes they can get a little "in the weeds" when everyone comes at once like on Sundays, but it's worth the wait and all those people clearly think so too. East Dallas neighborhood staple. This place has been around for over 30 years in some form. A few years ago, new management made lots of improvements in the decor. But some of it needs some refreshing now. Visited this establishment a little over 3 weeks ago and ordered the pork chop breakfast. About 3 hours later came down with a fever and began vomiting violently along with diarrhea. Was deathly sick for over a week with non stop diarrhea and vomiting. Almost 4 weeks later and still have diarrhea and just beginning to heal. Apparently the pork chop was rancid and they tried to conceal this fact with extra seasoning and by offering sausage gravy. Please be aware. I believe they knowingly served rancid pork because of the diabolical smirk on the cooks face as she asked, "did you enjoy?" In extremely broken English as I was leaving to pay. I have to assume that I am not the only person this has happened to. Worst experience ever. Will never be back. read more

What a nice find. Leaving the Social Security office, my beautiful life companion stated she was hungry and asked if we could stop for a bite. I had no idea where to stop. There are no shortages of places to eat in the MetroMess. I was not familiar with the area, so I headed home. I soon realized the standard route would not take me anywhere near a restaurant. I made a quick right and headed to a different part of town. I was surprised by the turn I would have normally taken and ended up heading in the opposite direction. Within a block, the Dallas Diner appeared out of nowhere--of course, it was somewhere. Let's give these guys a shot; I told Tish. She agreed, and it was a done deal. The place was small. It was not crowded. It was a little late for breakfast and a little early for lunch. Our waitress made us be welcome. I liked the feel of the place. Knowing Spanish would be a good thing but not necessary. I think the menu is diverse. I selected a hash and egg breakfast. Tish ordered the chicken fried steak. The food came promptly. It was good, old fashion diner food. Tish said her CFS was not the best she'd ever eaten, but it was tasty and well worth the price. One way or the other, it was a thumbs up. I enjoyed my hash and eggs very much. Not every dining establishment serves hash for breakfast. I considered Dallas Diner to be a go-to for breakfast. We'll have to come back for a lunch and see how that is. The people next to us had a lunch plate, and it looked delicious. I bet their lunches are equally as good as their breakfast. Great diner with little fanfare but good food. Key is they listen to your order. If you ask for crisp bacon you get crisp bacon. if you ask for onions in your hash brown you get onions in your hash browns. so the attention to detail is what makes the place worth coming back. It's not hard to fry eggs, bacon and hash browns BUT so many places ignore the special requests. Nice to know i'll be getting exactly what i ordered. Oh and the wait staff is friendly and courteous. i think its a family affair. My new go-to place for weekend breakfast. read more

They also have 10+ stools if you want to sit at the counter. The place has a old school being at home feel. The staff is friendly & attentive and your coffee will be refilled often. On my last visit, I was at the counter and was enjoying the bee hive of activity behind it as food and beverages was carried to customers in the tight aisle. Orchestration at its finest! We've been by this place a million times but never thought to try it until today when we were busy with errands and did not have time to drive far. We got there about 9am and tables were still available inside. It's a small place. Prices are very reasonable and the menu is pretty large. I went with the Western omelet ($5.99 I think) and I was not sorry. It's a three egg omelet with onion, green pepper, tomato, and ham. The ingredients tasted very fresh and it comes with a side of homemade salsa which put it over the top. Hash browns and toast come with it. A delicious breakfast and I would get it again for sure. The wife got the Big Man breakfast ($6.99) because she wanted to try a bunch of different things. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Hash browns, good; bacon, good. Biscuit, good. She did not like pancakes at all. Said they were too dense. I think this place is an undiscovered gem in East Dallas. It's not gourmet but the service is good and the food is way above average.
