Thought I would try the Chicken Livers today. I haven't had them since I was a teenager... and no... not doing the math on that one! Walked in, joined the line and placed my order. Noticed ladies working in the dining room to assure tables are clean as soon as customers leave. Once your meal is ready, they will call your name or someone will bring it to your table. Retro decor. Loved the music. Located across from SMU. You have the college crowd, residents from the neighborhood, grandparents with their grandchildren, and drive thru all buzzing with conversation. I found the chicken livers lightly battered, crispy on the outside and very tender meat on the inside. Mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans were my sides. All tasty. Add additional seasonings and pepper sauce if you prefer. Be sure to check out the banana pudding. I requested extra meringue. Dessert was made fresh and tasted great. A Dallas staple! Great spot for fried chicken and brunch. The interior is reminiscent of a diner and very casual, you walk up to order the meal. We got the 2 piece meal that was around $12.99 and you get to pick the type of chicken pieces you want. You have to ask for gravy on the side, tastes great with chicken dipped in. Have heard many good things about this place and finally decided to give it a try! Came early Saturday evening and there was a steady crowd coming in and out. Got the 2 piece chicken meal with mashed potatoes & gravy and green beans. The chicken was served hot and fried nicely. It was not overly salty but still flavorful. The sides for me were lacking. Neither the gravy or green beans had much flavor/seasoning. With a little salt and pepper they were just okay. If I were to come back I would just get chicken and find side elsewhere. My friend said the catfish was good! It is cooked to order. The inside feels like you've stepped back in time, I loved that they've kept the same decor but still very clean. Everyone I came in contact with was very friendly! Greatly appreciated the woman who helped me order. She offered suggestions and also let me try one of the speciality sides before ordering. Came in for late lunch/early dinner after reading Yelp reviews. This is a counter service restaurant with food plated/trayed before you leave the counter. Guests get to specify which pieces of chicken they want. All four cuts of fried chicken were tasty. Okra and mashed potatoes were good. Corn and green beans were straight out of a can. Rolls were dense and served as a perfect delivery vehicle for honey and butter. The restaurant is older with a dinner vibe. This was one of the best visits I've had at Bubba's. Perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy fried chicken. Also had a delicious cinnamon roll. The wheat rolls were fantastic. For sides we had the green beans and coleslaw. Service was great. They help carry the food out to your table and clean the table for you after you leave. Expensive for fried chicken, but definitely delicious. Over time, I find that eating inside the restaurant you get better, fresher, and golden fried chicken vs drive-through; which I've been disappointed in at times. I had an incredible experience at Bubba's in Snider Plaza. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was at a friend's house rather than a restaurant. Tori is a true gentleman, and Erik was incredibly helpful throughout my visit. They even offered me French fries while I was waiting! It's clear these guys take immense pride in their work. Solid/superb every single time. Some of the best fried chicken ever-my fave is the breast. Brined and moist, and that breading is near perfection. Bubba's has really gone downhill. I used to recommend this place to others but no longer. Sadly, the last few times I have visited the service gets worse each time and the wait times keep getting longer. The staff is more interested in gossiping about customers rather than completing orders and are so loud you can actually hear them even in the drive-thru. On my last trip, the order taker wrote down the wrong order creating further delays and mistakes seem to be commonplace. The managers appear to be aware of these issues but seem afraid to do anything about it. My advice to Bubba management would be make some changes with their staff and until then I'd recommend people go elsewhere if you value your time and money. There are other good chicken places in Dallas without these hassles. read more

Wow! Have been eating in and doing takeout for 30 years here at Bubbas. My last 3 visits have been less than stellar. Where I thought maybe they were having an off day, but today it was just plain bad. The livers were all large, firm without being tough, and the coating was deliciously crunchy. The ambiance was casual, which was great for a late afternoon lunch. The service was outstanding. I very much wanted to give this place five stars, because the food was definitely worthy of it. This is my second time in here and the food was just as good as the first time. Service was great. When we first walked in, the line was almost out the door at 7pm on a Sunday night. The line probably took about 20 minutes. It wasn't too bad. When we got to the front, we were informed that they were already out of a few different items. They were out of cornbread, chicken and dumplings, greens, and black eyed peas. And they were out of chicken fried steak, and had to fry it to order. This took an extra 15 minutes after we had already waited 20 minutes in line to order. This was very disappointing. I can understand an item or two but four different items, and it's items we wanted. I ordered a three piece chicken. I really like the fact that they let you specify what pieces of chicken you'd like. There was an up charge for an extra breast instead of a wing, which I am more than happy to pay. The chicken was hot, crispy, juicy and flavorful. One of my favorite fried chickens anywhere. I love their yeast rolls. I'll definitely be back, but I just hope that they can work on keeping menu items in stock. read more

Recommended by a friend and was craving fried chicken immensely! I love that those place has a drive through but be prepared to stand in line for a while. I ordered the three piece chicken which came with a choice of 2 rolls or cornbread and 2 veggies. Fried chicken was crunchy but I thought pretty small. The rolls at this place are heaven sent and extremely fluffy and yeasty in the best way. There's a slight sweetness to it in my opinion. The cornbread was my least favorite and was too dense as I prefer a cake like or soft cornbread. This place had some creamy mashed potatoes which were rich and flavorful. It tasted cheesy but I couldn't tell if there were any. My fries were cold :( For a single banana pudding, this was my least favorite item. Costs $4.59 so a small sized bowl. Too much bananas which aren't my favorite and there was barely any pudding. Every bite was a banana. read more

I read all the 5 star reviews and believed this place had to be a hit. I must have caught them on a bad day. For lunch I ordered chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and fries with a drink. I received a cup that was half full of ice. When I asked for more ice it seemed the hispanic lady couldn't understand what I was asking for. Finally pointing at my cup I think she understood and gave me a few cubes more. Really? I asked again and I think it finally sunk in and she filled my cup with ice. My meal showed up quickly which actually made me wonder. I do not believe the CFS was homemade - rather the typical pre-cooked then frozen steak which was very tough. The fries certainly were frozen and were very mushy. The mashed potatoes however were good. For $23 I would have hoped for a better meal. If you're looking for classic southern fried chicken - this is it! I got the 8 piece fried chicken with 4 yeast rolls and a side of mashed potatoes. The entrance was a little confusing because it's a one way and you CANNOT enter through the main road fyi! They also have drive thru but I ended up backing into the parking lot and it was not too busy inside so I went in to order takeout. Was in and out within 5-7 minutes - very quick and friendly service. They asked if I wanted gravy on the side which I said yes but when I went home I did not see it in the bag - would recommend checking your order before leaving. HOWEVER the mashed potatoes (with a lil bit of butter) was really good without the gravy!!! Fried chicken was crispy and juicy - tender other than the chicken breast but that's expected. Ordered a meal with green beans and mashed potatoes. And another meal with double mashed potatoes. Also asked her to make sure there was gravy on the mashed potatoes. I got home and both meals had double mashed potatoes and only one had gravy. The chicken its self had clearly been on the shelf a while. Now I did go late at night. Didn't really expect the freshest food. But do expect my oder to be correct. The cashier at the drive through was clearly tired and didn't have any concern about the service she was giving. Her response throughout the time speaking to me was what else, what else, what else. And after she gave us our food she didn't even say thank you or come back.
