It's Just Okay. I was craving a chicken fried steak on a Thursday afternoon and Metro Diner popped up at the top of the "Open Now" and "Nearby" lists. I'd eaten there once about a decade ago and found it unremarkable. Turns out, not much has changed. Service was quick, and the food was fine, but the menu was oddly limited. No classic CFS sides like mashed potatoes, green beans, or okra were available. Instead, it came with a side salad, or fries and toast. (Toast felt like a strange substitution for rolls, but ok fine.) The staff was accommodating, though their overall vibe was rough around the edges. The interior has that old-school diner look, but it feels worn down and not well maintained. Given their location near a busy intersection with new apartments and housing going up all around, Metro Diner has the potential to thrive. Went to the Metro Diner looking for a cheap breakfast, only discovering that prices had been raised. While ordering, the waitress told me that my order doesn't come with hash browns, which I realized was removed after looking at other reviews. Upon receiving my order, this was the food that presented to me, finding it to be significantly smaller than last time. With me still needing to ask for syrup since there was none there. This including a coffee brought my total to $16.57, making me realize I could have gone the better diner known as Normas for the same price. read more

Decided to take my nieces to breakfast here to celebrate school being over (18months to 6yo). We piled into a booth and proceeded to order a good portion of the menu--omelet, french toast, regular toast, biscuits, pancakes, T-bone, scrambled eggs, etc. Plenty of traditional diner fare. The cookery choices on the steak were "medium well" and "well done", I chose the former but got the latter. Eggs were ok, biscuits a bit burnt, but otherwise everything else was pretty unremarkable. The kids enjoyed all of their meals. Service was friendly but choppy (my Spanish proficiency was as good as our waiter's English) and the high chair we asked for was not clean. A staple of Bishop! My biggest concern is the jukebox--it should continuously play music, even if no one pays. Expecting employees to sit in silence for hours until someone pays for a song is unreasonable. Even in history the slave workers sang to make time pass more easily--should they really have to do the same just to get through their shift? If you can't prioritize your employees' well-being, I can't support you. Let them have music! I'd still contribute my own song choices, and in the end, you'd have happier employees, happier customers, and more people coming in. read more

If you aren't looking for anything fancy with affordable prices, then you have stepped into the right place. I will say that when we walked in we were greeted and told to sit anywhere we liked, but once we sat down getting someone to come take our order seemed to be a little challenging. We started off with some coffee (not that the menu states you are limited to two refills) and went ahead and placed our orders. It wasn't long before our food came out and I will say I personally was like meh I could have done this at home. I ordered a 3 egg cheese omelette and looking at the omelette I think that I may have been shorted an egg or two. I get this order at another spot and their omelettes are fluffy, so I was kinda expecting that. The hash brows were pale and looked like they could use a longer cook and my biscuit was ear on one side (I did hear another lady telling the server after I got my food to make sure the cooked both sides of her biscuit and I was like "ahh, that's what you are suppose to ask for"). With that said, the coffee was good, the pancake I enjoyed and wish I had just ordered a short stack of them. In a pinch, this place serves its purpose. read more

I am a metro diner eater especially when it was on Gaston Ave. this metro diner on Davis is horrible and the place is filthy, some of the workers look nasty uniforms are filthy. After I received my food I saw the cook dig in with his hands and put something in his mouth. I saw the waitress washed the table but didn't sweep the area trash all underneath the table. I WILL NOT BE BACK NEED TO SHUT IT DOWN AND REMODEL. 1 star is even a stretch here. But, don't have a choice. So, was very excited to try here with the amount of reviews for the star rating, which seemed very promising. We went in and the lady at front was nice and told us to sit at 1 of the 2 tables available. 2 tables were left unbussed. So, we sit at 1 of the clean unoccupied tables in the back. The other option was a table was by front door and didn't want to sit there with people walking in and out. The table we had was so wobbly that we would be wearing our coffee before drinking it. Like the table is basically broken. (As I sat there watching this other waitress sitting down, shooting the s**t with one of her other tables and when I say doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, especially not bussing any tables.) Our waitress finally came over and we asked her if they can bus the other table so we can sit at a unbroken table. (This is table was waaaayyyy past just putting something underneath the leg to keep it stable). Our waitress told us to hold on and went and asked the other waitress that was doing still absolutely nothing (her section) if she could bus the table so we could sit there, I literally watched her shake her head no. Then our waitress came back over and said " That the other waitress said "No" and it's her section so she can't do anything about it. That definitely was my cue to leave. Our waitress was apologetic and sweet. I honestly felt bad she had to work in such toxicity as that. So, save yourself a trip. Wouldn't suggest here if it was the last place on this planet. I know this place has been here for around 50 years and use to have stellar reviews. Sad that it's gone this direction for what seemed to be a good Dallas staple. On my days off I like to try different little spots in different areas. I really enjoy breakfast food , so while out running errands, I had googles breakfast spots near me . And this spot was less than a mile away and had some decent google reviews. It kind of reminds me of a Waffle House the way the diner is set . It definitely gives off the appearance and feeling of one of the diners that you would see in a lonely town in a horror movie. You know the ones that typically be in the middle of no where and it's miles and miles before you get to the next town. Also The opportunity of being able to watch as your meal prep and the whole 24 hour idea says a replica of Waffle House . Similar to a Waffle House the kitchen was a little messy and their dinning/customer area Could really use some renovations or some deep cleaning . You can tell they get a lot of business here and that they have plenty of regulars . I got the meat lovers breakfast that came with pork chops and I added some ham and sausage links to the side , Pork chops were cooked perfectly, the sausage links did not taste right and had a weird texture. I enjoyed my meal for the most part and the customer service was decent as well. I plan to return and think it's a pretty decent place to dine in at . Came here one night for a late night meal after work and it was the best decision ive made all year. This place was very old school styled with a great hospitable atmosphere. One the eve of moving out of my rental, around 2am my stepdad and I were starving. We popped into metro diner, and were one of 3 customers. Our waitress was friendly and welcoming. I ordered chicken tenders and fries and they were delicious and everything you'd expect from a friendly little diner. I love the one on Gaston but this one on Davis is horrible. The male cook dropped a spatula on the floor and wiped it on his jeans then went back to flipping food. Using the same utensil on all food on the grill. We saw this because there was a change of shifts and the white woman in her early 40's waited over 15 minutes for her to even initially come to our table after the original server said she was turning us over. This woman sat at the register looking at the window and chatting for 15 minutes before coming by to greet us, then it took an hour to get our food. And if that wasn't bad enough, I had asked to have my sandwich cut in half. It didnt come that way. So my husband had to flag her down and we asked for a steak knife to cut it. She grabbed my burger and took it. A few minutes later she dropped it off with it SMASHED with a hand print in the sandwich!!! I didnt want to eat it afraid of what she had done. I didnt want to say amything. But my husband flagged her down and asked her to take it. She asked what was wrong with it! I said its smashed with a handprint (the bun was disintigrating on the part where the palm print was). To which she replied, "Well he (the cook) refused to cut it so I did. I washed my hands! Its fine!" I said "I dont want it." To which she said "Well we wont tell anyone about this and I wont charge you for it". Then this woman had the audacity to tell my husband after he was paying and my son and I went to the car. Mind you we had been there waiting on food for over an hour and I had no food because of her.. She rudely tells my husband, looking at me out the window "Good Luck With That!" This was the worse service, most disgusting food and unsanitary restaurant I have ever been in. I was in the business for 30 years as leadership and worked my way up. I've been coming here for a while. Always had a great experience. This review is based on my experience last night. A friend and I went around 11pm. We enjoyed our meals and our server was friendly and professional (she was a younger white girl; possibly 25 or so). Any who, the cook was a scammer, thief, and a liar. This guy was an older (possibly 50s or 60s), skinny black gentleman. I had personally never seen him before. The cook I normally see is a more average built older black guy. Well, he comes over to us after the server stepped away and told us if we could guess the answer to 2 riddles, he'd "take care of our bill" as long as we paid him $10 (the bill was $14.06. Immediately my friend nudges me and explains to me that he was essentially trying to steal from the owner AND the server by doing this. Awful. Well, we decided to make his scheme known to to the server and "play along" with him to see how far he'd take it. He actually pocketed the $10! Despicable. My friend and I then walked to the counter to pay (we aren't thieves and refused to screw over the owner and server). We hand her the ticket. She, rightfully, tells us that the total is $14.06. My friend points to the cook and explains to her that he had $10, and we'd be paying $4.06+ her tip that she was owed. The cook had the FULL audacity to attempt to lie and say we misunderstood the "game", and since we got the riddles wrong, he'd be keeping the $10. Now, at this point, we'd clearly had enough, and demanded he give the money to the server. He did reluctantly, we paid the balance plus tip (as we should), and left. This man needs to be fired, and tbh, I hope the owner and/or manager look at bills paid when he's on shift to see if he's ever pulled this before. read more

This is your classic,all night 'Greasy Spoon' diner. Open 24/7/365,it's by no means fancy or elegant,and sometimes the clientele can get a bit loud & rowdy. And some folks might get 'put off' because people stand outside the door to smoke. Me,I could care less? That much said,the food is always pretty good (I'm partial to their Chili (Even though I'm sure it's not Homemade?) & their Chicken Fried Steak.....just like the ol' Texan I am?) the service is usually OK,but can be a bit slow at times. Especially if you choose to sit in one particular part of the restaurant,because if 'they' didn't see 'you' walk in then 'they' might not know 'you' are there? Has a Jukebox up in the corner up by the counter as well. And one stool at the counter has been missing it's seat for more years than I can count....and the grafitti on the inside of the Men's room door is like it's own Art Exhibit......but I guess that's all part of it's 'Charm'. I came for breakfast. It was packed. I came in and sat at the bar. There is a family environment at this place. Very very friendly staff. It's a homely type of environment. I sat at the bar and ordered a 3 egg breakfast. The waitress was quick to respond. She was also super friendly. My food came up quickly and well.... it tasted like a 3 egg breakfast. Lol.. it was good as any home cooked breakfast would be. The restaurant had many elderly people in there who seemed to be well acquainted with all the employees and I could pick this up from their good natured conversations. I saw a large number of families eating from all races and nationalities. The employee base is very diverse as well. This is really a nice, welcoming, modern, down home establishment. The fact that it was packed like it was shows that people enjoy the feeling of home and a home cooked breakfast. This place did not have that cold corporate feel that a lot of other establishments have in Dallas. Especially the chain restaurants. This place had a really personable feel to it. Which I really liked. THE NOT SO GOOD 1. The cooks were not wearing gloves. They were handling all the food with their bare hands and one cook was even wearing what looked like a school class ring (the big clunky sort of ring). 2. The restaurant had a smell of urine in the lobby. Not sure if it was coming from the restrooms which are close to the seating area or if a patron came in smelling like that. It had a number of very elderly people in there so I assumed maybe one of them had that smell. 3. The hashbrowns did not taste 'fresh'. They tasted old and rubbery and had that 'past their expiration' taste. 4. Very limited parking. 5. Lack of Scenery. This area is largely low income. I think there is a churches chicken across from the diner and it's right beside a very busy road which stays occupied by large trucks with noisy mufflers and loud music blaring out the speakers. We called Metro Diner to make sure they served breakfast, and the nice lady named "Honey" said "Sugar, we got your breakfast. Ya'll come on down and bring all yo friends". Intrigued , we got a taxi and made the 8 mile drive. Metro Diner is legit , kinda a 50's style diner with great breakfast selection, and two kickass ladies that work there, Honey and Candid. So I come walking in, and Honey remembered my name from the phone call and greeted me by name! I had 3 egg omelette , the guys had steak and eggs. The food is LEGIT. The service is LEGIT. And the ladies that work there at 2:09AM are LEGIT. Plus they asked what music we wanted to play on jukebox. Who does that? Thank GOD we didn't go to Waffle House or Denny's. The sausage links and patty's and bacon are all pre cooked and thrown into a deep fryer to warm up before severing they all sit in a pan w flies all over them so nasty poor cooks the manager and owners are lazy and nasty and irresponsible.
