I consider myself a regular. I have always received great service here. Like any restaurant some dishes are better than others. You just got to find your favorite. This place does get packed at lunch but food comes out fast. For lunch, I recommend the Roast Beef in Brown Gravey, Fried Okra, Corn Bread, and another side of your choice. Delicious! For breakfast, I like to get the Sausage and Biscuits with Gravey, sometimes with eggs. The Biscuits are just basic and simple, but they are sure are good and flavorful and fresh n hot. Overall the prices are good for the portions you get and you get alot of food. This is dinner food, so expect dinner quality. It is not the greatest, but it beats most other breakfast places. Pretty darn good! Showed up a little after 11am for a late breakfast. I got the Mana's favorite breakfast which is 2 eggs, hash browns or grits ( I got hash browns ), biscuit and gravy, and bacon or sausage (I got bacon). Oh and a coffee. Eggs came as I ordered them, it came with 3 pieces of bacon and the bacon was cooked exactly as I like it (chewy!!). The gravy didn't even need much pepper! It was the day before Thanksgiving, and we were looking for a breakfast spot before we headed into Dallas to finish our sightseeing. This restaurant is in an industrial section of town, which gives a kind of a sketchy vibe, but don't let that put you off. We were seated quickly, and while we were looking at the menu, we watched as tables towering with pies and other Thanksgiving items were being picked up. With that huge amount of pre-orders, you have to know that the food here is good. My boyfriend got biscuits and gravy, and I got the pecan waffle. My boyfriend loved the sausage gravy, and he actually said that this was the best gravy he's ever eaten. My pecan waffle was fabulous - nice thick, Belgian waffle filled with pecans. As we kept seeing pies getting picked up, we knew it was too late to order one for our own Thanksgiving, but they had pies by the slice so we were able to take two pecan pie slices with us to go. We ate those the next day, and thought we had died and gone to heaven! I wish we lived closer so that we could return to this delicious spot, I would highly recommend you give it a try! read more

There is dedicated parking all around the building and inside it's a table service restaurant. The menu offers several breakfast and lunch entrees along with daily specials. From the Thursday specials I chose the braised beef tips over rice with sides of mashed potatoes and brown gravy, fried okra and large Lima beans and rolls for $11.95. The food arrived less than 10 minutes later. I enjoyed every bite (almost). The beef and rice, mashed potatoes and gravy with two big fluffy rolls and the fried okra were delicious. Loved it. My only complaint was the Lima beans were over salted. This was the only reason I didn't give a 5. Finally, the waitress was warm and friendly. I would readily come back here for another meal. Well today my friend and I had a soul food taste. We said let's go to Momma's and Daughters, it's been a minute. OK, not a good day I have to let You know. The lunch special for today was Chicken Tetrazinni, Meatloaf is what we ordered with three sides. My entire plate was lukewarm. The fried okra was even lukewarm. The greens were the same. The butter beans were over cooked, the Tetrazinni was not gonna make it any better. It had way too much cheese and it was yellow with very little chicken on top of being cold. I left all my Tetrazinni and fried okra! We said lets go. At the check out. There is no price on the ticket. So he said 21.83, I turned around to see who he was talking to, he laughed. I said oh, OK! This is a lunch and breakfast place and just what you'd expect from the name. It has a very southern feel with grits (yum!) and huge portions but otherwise is very standard diner. The combo meals have good sized portions and they have turkey sausage! I took many pictures of the signs inside the restaurant and completely forgot to take pictures of my food. Everything seems to come out made to order, though no substitutions on the combos. I do recommend it if what you want is a diner style breakfast or just to check the place out for all the fun sayings all over the restaurant. The service was perfect and very friendly. We were looking for a good breakfast place near where we were staying and the choices were Dennys and then we found this place that was just around the corner by car if you are staying at the Hilton Anatole. I know it's a little further on foot because you have to walk out of the hotel parking lot and over one of the bridges to get to it. But let me tell you it is well worth it. I love this place. It has that southern charm outside and inside. I was able to eat here twice during my last visit and both times I ordered the big Texas Breakfast i believe it is the #1. I ordered it with toast the first time and with biscuits and gravy the second time. What's nice is they serve it on the side instead of drowning everything. Now I am picky about my biscuits and gravy and this is one of the best I have had. Even if you just get the biscuits alone they are worth it. I also got the Chicken fried Steak both times. I was delicious even without the gravy. I also ordered the hash browns but wish I had ordered the grits. The way i know this place is good food is because I saw police, construction workers, city workers all eating from this place. They always know where the best spots are. I also wish I had gotten to try the pies. They looked and sounded delicious. Oh well next time I am in Dallas I will have to stop in. What is nice is there is no expensive parking fee if you are driving unlike a lot of the places in the Arts District. So keep that in mind. My server was great her name is Steffanie.
