This is quite literally not the experience that I often have in spaces like this. Because why do they play the music so loud?! Turn the music down PLEASE! Whoever the DJ was the night we were there (I know I have the exact date and timestamp) knew the exact volume to play the music at. Down to the treble. Praise you! It was lovely! The "magic parlor" is in a space on Exposition near Fair Park. There's street parking or a couple of paid lots if the street is full. The space is pretty small, but didn't feel cramped with 50 or so guests. I booked my ticket online for $20 through Prekindle. You can also pay another $10 to reserve seats in the front two rows. We strolled in and they checked us in. Seats were first come first serve so we were in the very back. My friend brought in his cooler of booze, but I also noticed there were a few free bottles of wine at the front and some bottle water. Very nice! David Jessup a local comedian opened the show and was the MC all night between acts with the help of Audrey Grace who opened and closed the curtains and held up the applause sign when David was bombing (haha). There were a couple of burlesque dancers at this show. One, Bethany Summersizzle, danced a few times. The other, Jai Le Bait did crazy stunts like swallow a knife! Confetti Eddie is the main performer and he reminded me of the old timey black and white movies where the folks didn't talk. He was so cute and charming. He did a few corny magic tricks that were still very fun to watch! Popper Zander was on hand this Friday night and played a few songs of her own that went well the night's burlesque/side show theme. Overall we had such a fun night. It's kind of awesome turning your cell phone off for an hour or so and enjoying a show with live performers. Both were very good and the tricks were fun. The venue is very intimate and had only seats 50 or so - which meant that virtually all of the audience had the chance to participate in the show at some point. The show itself had several acts along with two musical interludes from the Wild Natives (who were also quite good). Afterwards the performers invite the audience for drinks at one of the bars close by. We had a great time and would recommend it.

My husband brought me here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. He knows I love watching…read morestand-up comedy and improv. One of my favorite places in Austin, TX was Esther's Follies. This place has a similar live improv show that gets the crowd laughing. Arrive early to find parking. I think we were there at least 30 minutes to an hour before the show, and the lot only had about 3 very tight spots left. Street parking looked limited. If you were forced that route, you'll need time to drive around looking for a spot and then walking your way back to the theater. At least the building parking was free! I'm not sure if the building has an elevator. We climbed stairs to enter it. The ticket booth is just inside to the left at the top of the stairs. A staff and show member greeted us and explained how the show worked, since we were new here. Chairs were lined up in rows, but they have little tables between every two chairs. Great for setting down your drinks and also gives you a more intimate experience if you are there on a date. You can also move your seat around a bit to adjust for long legs or growing girth. The front two rows have red velvet 2-seater lounge couches. These plush luxury seating options look great until you find yourself called on to participate in the performance in some way. Just for the record, sitting further back doesn't guarantee you won't be included in the show in some unexpected way. Audience participation happened in a variety of ways. Before the show, you could write ideas on post it notes and stick them on their idea board. Additionally, you could jot down a phrase on an index card and place it in a fishbowl. These items were regularly exploited during the show requiring the actors to think on their feet. Bartenders can make cocktails and standard mixed drinks. Beer and wine are fast and simple. Surprisingly, they don't do margaritas here because they take too long to make and the line backs up. Eventually they hope to get a frozen margarita machine to make it easier. Food options are severely limited to items you might find at an independent theatre. There is a small container of premade popcorn that honestly isn't very satisfying. We also split some chocolate covered pretzels that appeared to be individually wrapped by a special retailer. I recommend eating prior to coming or at least have a decent healthy snack at home and then go out to eat afterwards. The show was fun! The actors had a lot of different scenarios that kept you entertained. Each sketch only lasted 10-15 minutes. If you were only mildly amused, you didn't have to wait long before they were throwing something new at you. I would definitely come back here and would recommend others check it out for a fun evening of laughs.

Because of its space layout and narrow width of the room, there is no bad spot in the house, save for maybe in the corners of the balcony which may give obstructed view. I was also very pleased with the acoustics in the room. The sound system and quality was great! I was impressed with this as the sound in similar venues can be hit or miss. There's street parking, paid lots nearby, and a parking lot right next to the venue for $20 cash. I'd definitely return to Trees for another concert.

I finally got to check The Loft out. Wasn't quite sure what I was expecting given that it's above…read morethe Palladium, which is quite large. The Loft is fairly small. Think I heard it holds about 400 people. There's a bar in the back, and a bar to the side of the stage, so it was pretty easy to get a drink at all times (important!). I can't really comment about the sound because the Buzzcocks played LOUD, but I enjoyed it, even when I went deaf. The opening band wasn't really my cup of tea, so we all went out to the patio. A huge patio at that. It was fun looking at the Dallas skyline and watching the hoochie mama's below going to the Pittpull concert. Hello silicone, but I digress. I didn't really mind paying $4.50 for weak cocktails, or $4 for Shiner, even when it was poured in a plastic cup. The bathroom attendant was so unnecessary, though. Is she always there? There are only two bathroom sinks, and we were at a punk show ferfucksake. Any who. I felt the venue was solid for what it does, and the fact that I was able to get so close to punk legends sealed the deal.

That can only be accomplished by being up close and personal. The loft is so much more intimate than the Palladium below. The bartenders can get busy, especially between sets, but don't worry they'll get to you. Between sets take a breather on their awesome balcony. Take some pics with your friend/significant other with the Dallas skyline. With all these positive marks you would expect a 5 star review. Sadly, the band line up is pretty limited. My favorite recurring band are the Spazmatics. I wish they could take a cue from Granada's rotation. Still, if your favorite band comes, it's a no brainer! Band with a view
