I remember watching this being built during my high school years and was so excited for a space close to home where we could hang out, play basketball, etc. A neighborhood landmark of sorts. As an adult, this still rings true. I visit the Mid-County Rec for many reasons including to vote and attend community organization events. I love that you can rent rooms of several sizes - plus, there's even a gym! I wish more people knew how great and multifaceted rec centers are, especially youth and senior citizens. Let's get the word out there about Mid-County rec!

I don't get why anyone would complain about this recreation center. The staff have all been very…read morepleasant every time I go and it is a great resource to have in the community. It's alway clean and in very good condition. All the equipment is in good working condition and shows very little wear and tear. The only exception is one of the the pool tables has torn felt and is expensive to fix. The tables are good quality but smaller than regulation tables and meant for beginners. A serious pool player wouldn't use these tables anyway. It was obviously very inexperienced players damaged the felt and I've never seen skilled player use them. Their gym is as good as any you would pay a monthly fee and the centers fee is a fraction of the cost with much more to offer. The center is a great resource for the elderly of varying degrees of mobility with their many different activities. There are table tennis players in the 80's that would smoke most players 50 years younger.

I only know this place as my local voting site. I was told I had to come by and fill out forms and show proof of residency. They only wanted play Table tennis for heaven's sake! I pay for this center through my very high taxes! My son who should have been able to have this time at the center, he was denied this, this is discrimination against people with disabilities.

From the pictures on Yelp I expected the scene to be a bit more of lush greenery and even maybe some rose bushes. When I went to the park, it was a bit more barren and ides of winter than I was hoping for. That being said, the quaint little cozy stroll of a park is located right in old town Gaithersburg behind a large apartment complex that I'm CERTAIN gets its fill of it during the spring and summer. The park has AMPLE amounts of seating. Bench swings line the entry path which also has a little pavillion that could host a number of different happenings - first thoughts go to band stand. Then on the path you find a circled group of seats that evoke King arthur and the knights of the roundtable vibes. Most especially because the head chair at 12 o clock - crafted of large branches can only be considered a throne of sorts. Stroll further in the park and you find a lengthy sand village, complete with miniature log houses, outlined in stumps, and to me gives off the impression of a Japanese sandy zen garden. There are 2 slides built into the side of a hill that tempt the childhood in me. And another large sunken circular pit that has tree stumps to sit in. At the end of a garden is a water pump that has a little downspout into a creek. Of course... I tried the waterpump and the well was unfortunately dry. But, as a kid I could only imagine the fun when it's really going. It seems like Constitution Gardens has the potential of a young nation that just asserted its independence from its empire. I really pray that it's somewhat untended to current condition is just it's current hibernation phase from the winter. Because man oh man can you just imagine the fun that kids would have here, and the VARIOUS spots that parents could congregate and come together for rich and vibrant conversations about their community. I will go back to the gardens later in the Spring to see if it's lived up to it's inherent potential. I truly can't wait.

What a great library! I'm so excited to have it so close to our new home. It has a great children's…read moreselection which is number one in my book. We were able to get Set up with a library card in no time. I just asked of the front desk and minutes later the card was in my hand. My son was very happy to find Lego books, Berenstein books, curious George books, Star Wars books and many others! Also, there's an indoor play area for the younger ones which is great to have! Just outside is a terrific playground! It's mostly fenced in which is helpful. There are no swings, but there is plenty to climb and spin around on and slide down!

The Rec Center: Overall, I liked the layout of the rec center, and the folks that helped with getting a card were SUPER friendly and helpful. While I have not officially used the rec center, I was a bit disappointed with the the size of the weight room. The size of the weight room reminds of a weight room that one would find in a hotel. However, the gym did look like it had everything that one would need for a decent workout. Also, I was a bit surprised that the rec center does not open until 9 am on weekdays (and Saturday). Based on my prior rec center experiments, I'm used to rec centers opening from 5:30 to 7 am. Then again, perhaps, these hours are for the summer months. The Library: Again, the librarian who signed me up for a card was very friendly. Also, I loved how she gave me a very thorough overview of this branch's services and resources. Although I was in the library for only a few minutes, I thought it was very well organized.

Elwood Smith Park is a great little local park with lots of amenities for locals. There is a…read moreplayground for children, a community center for activities, a softball/baseball field, and plenty of picnic tables. It is also nearby to the local high school, so there's plenty of space for pregame activities. What really sets this park apart is the amount of shade received by the old growth trees. You can enjoy a summertime lunch in the shade without having to worry about the heat. It also has a close proximity to several other parks, making it a great waypoint for your bicycle or running trips, and also as a quick shortcut from the high school to the main neighborhoods. Stop on by and play around-this is a great local park.
