This place is exceptional. The service is 5 stars and the food is even better. Grilled oysters with green chartreuse hollandaise, man god bless America. 10/10!!!!!! Oysters melt in your mouth, hollandaise sauce was wickedly spectacular. Squid and shishito skewers, BLESS the person that made this. 10/10!!!!! These meals melt more than the snow I've stepped on. Great balance, squid and veg both perfectly cooked. Fish and chips, just got back from London a couple months ago and this is as the kids say bussin 9/10 Tartar sauce was very tasty, flaky fish and the chips were crisp. Sticky toffee pudding, I will die for this recipe 10/10!!!!! Marks and Spencer still have my heart but this was different gravy. Loved every bit of this place, the ambiance (low lights, intimate setting) staff (hosts and waiter/ress excellent) and food (to die for)

The fish and chips really was that good. I'd come back just for that! Sticky toffee pudding was also delightful - I loved that it was a crust to it. The caramel sauce was too sweet for me but the crème fraiche helped (just wish there was more). The monk fish rice was not the best way of preparing monk fish IMHO - it ended up a bit mushy with I didn't think the flavor combo was good. Side dishes were good but kind of what you'd expect and on the smaller side for the price point.

What the team at Dame has accomplished in such a tiny space is truly a wonder and a joy. While our dinner had a couple minor misses, our overall experience was really excellent. The service was the best we've experienced in a long time. Our server was an impeccable professional, welcoming and knowledgeable, with great recommendations. She took our entire experience up several notches. As first-timers, we ordered the two dishes that appear most popular: the squid and scallion skewers and the fish & chips. At our servers recommendation, we added the kedgeree curry rice with crab. Unfortunately, our squid was a little overcooked and underseasoned, so we didn't have the greatest start to the meal. However, the fish and chips lived up to our high expectations. Definitely a can't miss. The rice dish was also excellent, with richness and great spice (as well as being spicy), just a bit on the small side. We ended the meal with a delightful Brooklyn grape and chamomile tart. Elegant and refreshing, it made a great close to a dinner with dishes on the heartier side. We sat at the counter and so got a clear appreciation of how much Dame accomplishes with so little space. I'd recommend sitting closer to the kitchen end for a better view, but nonetheless we enjoyed the counter experience. And we loved the vibe set by the 90s pop played throughout service. Just a great evening overall!

Tiny but mighty! I've walked by this spot a few times but it's overshadowed by it's popular neighbor, Dante. I'm obsessed with summer tomatoes and saw on their IG they had a heirloom tomato sandwich til the end of the month and knew I had to have it. We weren't lucky to get resys, but grabbed a drink next door while waiting for them to open on a Friday evening. I walked over to ask how long the wait would be and the host had an outdoor table. The weather was perfect and the sidewalk wasn't chaotic so we agreed. Although their menu is small, they had a ton of options we wanted to try. We ended up getting a fantastic bottle of Basque wine and 6 dishes to share. We got the oysters, sourdough bread with anchovies, zucchini blossoms, scallop and tomato skewers, heirloom tomato sandwich and the curried crab rice. There wasn't anything I didn't like. Everything was so fresh and bright plus paired well with the wine we chose. The staff was amazing and so friendly. Everyone we talked to was great and it's refreshing to have engaged staff. We've been to a few spots recently where the staff could care less. You can tell the people here really enjoy the food as well. We can't wait to go back for the massive fish and chips.

Wow, this place is SO underrated in my opinion!! Everything was amazing, I would definitely go back. 10/10 recommend the squid and scallion skewer, tuna tartare, bread and butter, and fish and chips. Give it a try!!!

Dame is a British bar/restaurant, came here after a visit to their sister restaurant Lord's. Vibes felt a bit more upbeat and upscale here like a bistro. Staff were welcoming and very efficient in this tight area that still seeming accommodated many guests. I went with the crumpet with rarebit sauce - it was fine but I didn't really taste the rarebit sauce, not sure if it was buried by other ingredients or not enough. The leeks with anchovies was solid and I didn't really taste much fishiness. The sauce was tasty. Finally the fish and chips - I'm not much of a fish and chips person but had to try with the high praise it gets - again as someone who doesn't seek out or eat much fishiness and chips it was a solid dish and with the chips, but didn't find it memorable. I probably need to visit the UK and taste more fish and chips here for comparison but it wasn't really that noteworthy for me, I think it's just purely personal taste. It has a nice fried crisp and bit of oily taste and was tender inside. The accompanying sauce went good with chips. Overall I think this is just personal taste with fish and chips, but for the other dishes and cost it was a decent meal though bit overpriced for me.

The best fish and chips I've ever had.

I ate here about a month ago with a friend. Oh my goodness, their fish and chips are AMAZING! This is probably the best fish and chips I've ever had. The sticky toffee pudding was almooost perfect. The sea salt they sprinkled on top made it too salty and they needed some vanilla ice cream or some kind of vanilla sauce to cut the sweetness. It was still very good, but not quite as good as it could be.

Came here specifically for the fish & chips, it didn't disappoint. It clearly is the best fish & chips in nyc for a reason. The fish is crazy moist and plump in terms of portion size. The chips are properly crispy with as much fried surface area as possible. I don't think i can be exceeded other than maybe adding a little more seasoning to the fish, but it was otherwise excellent. The sticky toffee pudding was just ok, it needed ice cream on top instead of creme fresh, but they don't have a freezer. Service could have been slightly more attentive for a small restaurant, considering the menu isn't big or confusing. I'd go back if I'm in terms mood for fish & chips.

TL;DR - Dame is unpretentious yet elegant, small but mighty, and absolutely worth the hype. The kitchen is all in on seafood, which is just the way I like it. Tucked away on MacDougal Street, Dame has cemented itself as one of NYC's best modern British-inspired seafood spots. The intimate, lively space--dressed in blue-and-white hues with warm wood accents--seats no more than two dozen guests, making for an exclusive yet welcoming dining experience. The food = a seafood lover's dream. My date & I shared everything (highly recommend!), and every dish was impeccably executed & packed with flavor. The grilled oysters with green chartreuse hollandaise were decadent, topped with a silky, herbaceous hollandaise, while the squid & scallion skewers featured tender, charred squid balanced by sweet grilled scallions. A surprising standout was the grilled cabbage with mussels & horseradish, a smoky, briny, and bold dish that proved Dame can make vegetables just as exciting as seafood. Of course, we had to try their iconic fish & chips, and it did not disappoint--the light, crisp batter encased perfectly flaky hake, served with golden hand-cut fries and a tangy tartar sauce. They also offer a solid spirit-free drinks selection, though I forgot which one I ordered! FUN FACT: Dame was never meant to be a seafood restaurant. Originally planned as a wood-fired meats concept, their pandemic-era fish & chips pop-ups became so popular that when they finally opened permanently, they went all-in on seafood. The menu blends British charm with French technique, prioritizing farmers' market freshness & refined execution. Unlike most NYC spots, Dame doesn't serve raw oysters--they broil them under a rich green Chartreuse hollandaise. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. Dame is a must-visit for seafood lovers, and I would absolutely go back. The service was attentive & efficient, though one thing to note--we had an 8pm reservation & were asked to wrap up by 10pm for the next seating (on a Monday!). That said, it felt like just the right amount of time to enjoy the meal.

Ambiance (5/5): The space is so incredibly small which is why the reservations are so hard to get. We managed to get a reservation at 9:30pm! The space is tight but also quaint. Some seating by the chefs prep that overlooks the kitchen. Service (5/5): Service was on point throughout the meal. Our server provided us with some recommendations as well. Grilled Oysters (5/5): These were phenomenal, super flavorful, juicy! Get at least 2 per person. Chilled Scallops (5/5): The sauce is divine. The scallops are soft and complemented from the texture of the melons Fried Squash Blossoms (4/5): There was a nice crunch to the fried blossoms Tuna tartare (5/5): So much flavor in this but a tiny piece of bread. Skate cheeks (4/5): The breading was full of flavor and a hit of spice and sweet. Scottish Trout (5/5): The trout was so tender and juicy. Every one of the dishes was packed with different textures and flavor, providing a dynamic bite to each beautiful dish. Expect very small portions for what you're paying for!

Dame is a rare British seafood seafood restaurant and has been on my list for years to try. They specialize in fish and chips (were solid), but they have a nice variety of different seafood small plates to try. Some better than others. The kedgeree with curry monkfish was a highlight, though wish there was a little more fish for the price. Same with the skate cheeks, which was a super tiny portion for $24. The photogenic squid skewers were a bit lacking for me, but the cucumber with smoked mussels were fab. So it was up and down for me, but overall I liked it. Very tiny inside, so would recommend coming with 2, maybe 4 people. Don't think they can accommodate a party larger than that. I recommend giving it a try if you like seafood!

We did the $125 option which includes lobster. If you have people in your group who are on the fence about spending the extra money, just remind them it's only about $35 more and that's basically the cost of one lobster anywhere else. Here you're getting unlimited lobster. The food literally just kept coming. At one point we were running out of room on the table. One thing I really appreciated was that the staff noticed and started putting multiple items on the same plates instead of bringing everything out separately. It sounds small but it actually helped a lot and showed they were paying attention. The drinks weren't super strong but they definitely weren't weak either. If you love seafood, come hungry and bring a group. The vibes were great, the service was on point, and we left absolutely stuffed.

The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.
