    Nice patriotic wall decorations
    Fred B.

This is most certainly a cool little spot and one that has certainly burst on the Triad culinary scene with a bang! Before them this was the home of the Deli On Main. The "Damn Yankees" are Steve and Erica Maier, who moved into the area from Long Island several years ago. After some health issues and some job dissatisfaction, they decided to open a deli and secured this spot. The interior is rather plainly setup, functional but little else. The place has a lot of patriotic wall decorations, as well as a bunch of basebal memorabilia (mostly NY Yankees) . There is no table service so go to the order point. Your name will be called when your order is ready! They have some 26 subs on the menu, though any with pork are currently not available due to a porchetta recall! They use Boars Head meat and cheese, make their sauces, sides, gravy, & relishes in house. They also bake their sub rolls in house! I ordered the Italian, subbing out the oil & vinegar for mayo the remainder of items as shown in the menu - this is a 6" sub that goes for $10.99, 12" comes in at $19.99 - rather Katzesque! The sub was nicely filled with meat (pepperoni, salami, & capicola), though the cheese was minimal. These is a Sweet Cherry Peppers relish that is quite nice, and the sub roll was nice, though I prefer a bit more crunchiness. This is a very good Italian sub, among the best in the Triad area, not something I say casually. I really love an excellent Italian sub, and of the well over 30 I've identified in the area, I've sampled over 20 - this includes chains and locally owned spots. As to food quality, I would rank the sub here in my top seven, with at least 3 I feel are superior due to a combination of quality and value. The main concern here is the value aspect - this is a costly item, and the quality of the ingredients are met by other spots that are not nearly as pricey. At $10.99 for a 6" sub, that comes out to $1.832 per inch!!! For comparison, the Italian offered by Jersey Mike's is 8" and goes for $10.25 - $1.281 per inch! At Venezia in Advance, the 8" Italian goes for $8.99 - $1.123 per inch, and a side is included. The quality and quantity of ingredients at both are comparable to what is used here. I also ordered the 6" American Special sub for $9.99 ($1.665 per inch). This basically is very much like Publix Boars Head's Ultimate Sub, 8" for $9.99 ($1.249 per inch). Both have ham, turkey, and roast beef with cheese. What sets the sub at Damn Yankees a bit apart is the addition of a house made sweet pepper relish - it is absolutely addictive! I would buy this by the pint or quart, if available. It is a nice sub, but the value aspect remains in play. There is a nice variety of items here, quality is obviously here as well. The folks here are nice, and the service aspects seem to be trending in the right direction. The value aspects will matter more to some than others, a very individual judgement! But consumer resistance to restaurant pricing is growing as they face rising costs, "surcharges ", and pressure to tip! NOTE: They will begin serving breakfast on August 20th - bagels, a variety of cream cheese spreads, lox, NY style breakfast sandwiches, and more. Ambiance - 3.5 (clean, bright) Food - 4.5 Service - 5 Value - 2.5

Tasty egg bagel. I ordered the asiago bagel and my husband ordered the poppyseed bagel with different toppings. They got the bagel options swapped but it was still tasty and flavorful.

This place was pretty damn good! We enjoy our sandwiches to the max! I got a Cuban, which included a house recipe of pulled pork and it was absolutely to die for! I was happier than ever. My husband got an Italian sandwich, which he felt was top tier. They had lots of cool yankee memorabilia inside and made me feel right at home, since I am from NY myself! It was very reminiscent of a Long Island deli line I grew up with. Lots of drink and chip choices as well. Will definitely return to try some more things!

Whew! This ex NYCer is very pleased there is a proper breakfast sandwich on a hard roll. We came in on a Saturday morning and had no excessive wait: eating our sandwich within 15 minutes of walking in. Place is basic re: decor and it's exactly what it needs- some nods to Yankee Stadium and NYC but the food is A+. Perfect and I mean PERFECT roll, melty cheese, egg done right and I added hot sauce and tomato. Absolutely a hardcore fan, thank you for bringing the hard roll breakfast sandwich (with a proper roll) here!

I had takeout from the deli for lunch one day. It was delicious. I ordered the chicken sandwich with mozzarella and roasted peppers. It was tasty and the mozzarella was very fresh. I had their yummy macaroni salad on the side. It was definitely New York style, which I love. I also got to try their rainbow cookies. I know they don't make them there, but they were delicious and authentic. I will definitely go in person to try more of their northern style food.

Tuna salad on lettuce, tomato and cucumber.

First visit and glad we made the decision to give it a try. Pros - the food was absolutely spot on. The portions, crazy huge. I read some negative comments in reviews about price and have to disagree. For the amount of food you get, the prices are great. I ordered tuna salad on a bed of lettuce, tomato and cucumber - you could feed a family of 5 on it. See pic and this is after I ate until full. My SIL ordered the daily special and loved it. Fair amount of seating and pretty fast service. Very accommodating when asked for additional condiments, bags, etc. Pleasant staff. Great location. Cons - there is a musty smell that is very noticeable when you enter. They were out of the item I originally wanted to order. Salad/Side case looked a little weak as far as variety goes, but what was there looked good.

You better be hungry to finish this 12 inch hero. The bread was so fresh and tasty. Try the garlic dill pickle it was so good.

NY Deli arrives on main street Kernersville and we had to give them a try. We were so glad we did! Damn Yankee hit it out of the park on our very first at bat. The owner was super friendly taking orders while his wife was creating amazing sandwiches with a crew in the back. We all ordered different sandwiches. We were there around 5:30 PM (dinner time) with another couple and the food arrived fairly quickly, especially considering how busy they were. Three key takeaways from our first visit: 1- Great casual atmosphere with ample tables to sit and enjoy your food. 2: They use boars head meats and the meats on every sandwich were very lean and the portions were very generous. 3- The fresh bread they use with their sandwiches is fantastic. We will definitely return as all 4 at our table had nothing but great things to say about the food we ordered. Recommend ordering the garlic-sliced pickle as a side with your sandwich. Delish!

Food This was our 1st time to this sub shop and not happy at all ...I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak with Mayo LT and provolone cheese it had none on it (picture enclosed ). Our friend ordered the Rueben they put no sauce on it or even on the side... I also had ordered a side of coleslaw and the container had 2 tablespoons of slaw in it for $2.50 ...whoa. This order was not worth the 41.47 paid! I choose Jersey Mikes any day ...won't be back!

Turkey with side of macaroni salad

Finally made it. First attempt: no bread, no chicken, so we decided to try another time. Second attempt: understaffed, closed due to a graduation. Third attempt: the place was a mad house! Good sign for business but also learned that the wait was similar to a sit down restaurant. If you can anticipate and be ok with that knowing that, then it's worth it. Do not expect a fast experience. The line was long. Most staff had been on for only a few days, meaning they're learning still. Patience is key. Our wait from order to food was about 45 minutes. It feels like they're still in a soft launch phase, or needed one? They're still getting thru many new opening kinks. Could benefit from two registers to order from, to offset lines. Buzzers or text system when order is ready would also help. Noticed staff in back seemed to be on top of each other. Made me wonder if everyone had a station and knew how they would work from order in to finish. The stress was palpable. The food: Once we got it - we held out and didn't take the refund offered to all-the turkey was good. My sandwich lacked because after that long it was missing the Swiss cheese and tomato. Our other sandwich was Cajun and not as delicious as my plain Jane style, if that says anything. The macaroni salad was wet and runny but good flavor. They were out of ice,,ran to fix it, so trying. The sweet tea wasn't marked as raspberry so that was unfortunate. Cost: Way too high. It was $9 for a half sub - standard, nothing fancy. I wish they offered 1/4 subs at $5 for light eaters like me. Keeps to market trends. People were upset at the combination of cost and wait. Management: Perhaps hire a front of house manager/trainer to alleviate stress from you. Focus on staffing up if you can. The people want what you have but there are barriers. We hope they succeed. We need a deli in town, but affordable and reliable. We are rooting for you.

First time at damn Yankees deli. Got the Cuban with potato salad! Delicious. Looking forward to trying all the other sandwiches!

I was pretty taken aback by how many dessert options they had. Not only did they have a plethora of types of desserts, but they had sooo many flavors/varieties of each one. A dozen different variations of cheesecakes, several cupcake varieties, a dozen different kinds of macarons, several different cakes, tiramisu, tres leches, banana pudding, edible cookie dough, more cookies than I could name, brownies, eclairs, and more that I'm sure I have forgotten. If you can name it, I'm sure they have it. I've been looking for somewhere nearby to get a proper macaron (as opposed to a hard, macaron shaped cookie without the traditional texture) at a reasonable price point. This definitely met those criteria, so of course we tried a flower shaped macaron. It had the perfect, delicate cookie and that classic, light almondy flavor. We also had a brownie batter cookie, which was delicious and reminds me of something I would have saved on Pinterest a decade ago but never gotten around to making, much less as well as they do. Though there was a line inside, we were served super quickly by friendly staff, and found a nice seat outside in the sun. They also had abundant indoor seating.
