The Boars head roast beef is tender and most all of the fat has been trimmed off. They give you a generous portion of meat with the sauerkraut and sauce. On yummy bread. The sides are all yummy..Asian salad ( one of my grandsons favorites)potato salad 2 ways, egg salad, cucumber salad ( other grandsons favorite). I love the broccoli salad best. But with 7 different salads you can choose. The Cuban is my next my favorite. But I have not had a bad sandwich ever of any kind. And I have tried a lot of them. They have a large variety of sandwiches. They have added wraps. Which is my sons favorite. The tomato soup is SO GOOD. They offer French onion soup too. And 1 or 2 more kinds. It's a small space - a few tables inside and a few tables out - but don't let that or the line you are likely to encounter deter you. They crank out sandwiches quickly here. Said sandwiches include about two dozen hot and cold offerings as well as the ability to build your own. The meats are Boar's Head, but the desserts and soups are made fresh in-house. Check out the display case for salads and sides that might catch your eye. O'Brien's prides itself on its Reuben, and so I went with the "mini" version (a quarter rather than a half pound of meat) with a pickle for my first visit here. Ordering at the register was a breeze, and I was fortunate enough to snag one of the tables for dine-in. Though I was a bit skeptical that the Reuben would match the hype, it delivered. I don't know that it is without a doubt the best version I've had, but it is definitely up there. The grilled rye was nice and crisp, and I appreciated that they used both mustard and Russian dressing. That, plus the meat, kraut, and melty cheese, made for a very satisfying bite. At $10, the sandwich proved a good value, too. Unpretentious and nostalgically comforting (for Northern transplants, at least), O'Brien's is a well-oiled sandwich-slinging machine. I went with the Cuban. A savory sandwich, full of juice and every bite from the tender pork and the pickles for acidity. Their signature sandwiches never disappoint. My daughter got the secret sandwich that is not on the menu, which is the bacon, egg and cheese, a staple in New York. With a decent amount of bacon and served on a Kaiser roll, which is the New York Way it is the perfect sandwich. Not just for breakfast but anytime of day. My wife also went with a signature chicken Parmesan. A perfectly cooked chicken cutlet with a savory tomato sauce and melted cheese is a delight in every bite. Great local sandwich place. Located in a strip mall area, the seating on site is pretty small as is the shop itself. The focus is obviously food first and foremost and they do a great job of that. They have a large variety of different toppings, "pre-selected" sandwiches and standard deli items like macaroni salad, potato salad, chips and carry Dr. Brown's soda which is a good quality soda. Most of the time I've been here I've had the Reuben, you can't really go wrong with that choice and it's obviously the store's flagship sandwich for a reason. Every ingredient I've had is high quality, from the bread to the meat to the condiments. They obviously take care to produce good food. One of the times I visited I had their St Patrick's Day special of corned beef, cabbage and soda bread. The cabbage was just okay but the corned beef was of course amazing. The soda bread was the real star and it makes me sad it's not a regular offering. The only downside I'd note was it can get a little pricey and add up quickly if you have a couple people and start adding drinks or sides. Value could be a little better, even considering the food is well made and high quality. Overall this is a great place I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a local quality deli. Amazing deli!!! We we're driving through Winston-Salem on a road trip to the beach, and decided to make a stop in town. We looked up several different places, but noticed that this deli had excellent reviews, and decided to give it a shot. We are very glad that we chose to do so, because everything here was exactly as an old school authentic deli should be. The staff were super friendly, our orders came out promptly, and everything was just delicious. I highly recommend the Reuben. It is quite big, so they're half Reuben is a reasonably good option as well. Their Cubano sandwich was also amazing, and their meatball hoagie was a hit with one of our kids. Their pickles are excellent as well, and I recommend enjoying one of these instead of a bag of chips if you like them. The ambience is comfortable, and there is a lot of foot traffic, which they keep up with very impressively. Parking can be as somewhat of an issue, but don't be afraid to park around back if there are no parking spots up front. We do drive through Winston-Salem fairly regularly, and we will most definitely be back for more!! well done!!! read more

The place has multiple awards on the wall, so i was excited to try it. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan sandwich; the flavor was not what I expected, it was good but I was a bit disappointed. I should have gone with something different like the Reuben. I did however really enjoy the soup, it was perfectly seasoned and had lots of chicken that was diced. I need to let you be aware first that if a restaurant has a Reuben on its menu, I order it. That determines to me if I am going to come back or not. So over the years I have had many...MANY Reuben sandwiches. The one I had at O'Briiens, was absolutely and without a doubt the best Reuben I have ever had in my life! You wouldn't think from the unassuming nature of the outside of the shop that they would house such a perfect balance of the Reuben. The meat, was tender and flavorful with each bite going the entire way through. When I say perfect balance, you need to know that a Reuben comes many different ways at times, but the perfect balance is where you taste each part of the ingredients in a perfect harmony. My wife missed out but she said her BLT was excellent, but she knows how much I judge my Reubens and when I looked at her with my smile and said that it was the best, there was no doubt that O'Briens had been judged as the ultimate Reuben sandwich location. It even says "Home of the Reuben" on the front window and how appropriate it is. The shop doesn't have a lot of tables but with the number of seats it had on Saturday afternoon each one was filled. I got a side of German potato salad and although the side container is not huge, it is enough and that salad was excellent in its own way. Don't take my word for it....even though from the above, I am being very honest and have had numerous Reubens, go to O'Briens and taste it for yourself. read more

While the Reuben here is a sandwich well worth one's attention, I took a different path and ordered the grilled Pimiento with tomato during my recent stop here, and I didn't regret the choice at all. Lovely melted cheese spread plus the acidity and fleshiness of the mater equals satisfaction. The deli isn't a large space, but I took lunch a little early so I didn't have trouble finding an open spot among the few tables inside. There are also a row of tables just outside, though I wouldn't call eating alongside Country Club Road's traffic the most aesthetically pleasant environment. The folks working here are extremely pleasant though. They answer questions, move with purpose, and maintain mindfulness of the needs of their guests. I stopped in O'Brien's deli with my family, and grabbed some food for the kids . O'Brien's deli is a vibrant and clean establishment. The people are really nice when we walked in giving us a greeting and acknowledging us which I always appreciate. My son had a turkey club sandwich and it came out promptly within 5 to 8 minutes or so . The sandwich was nicely built on fresh sour dough bread stacked with thinly sliced turkey with fresh lettuce and tomato. Outstanding little sandwich shop in Winston! First off, I MUST mention the staff/customer service. It is phenomenal. Total stand out from other businesses. Everyone is so kind and efficient. It was packed on Saturday afternoon but it moved like a well oiled machine and no one batted an eye or appeared stressed whatsoever. It was impressive! Parking looks to be tough upon arrival but there's additional parking out back. The inside itself is pretty small with only a few tables but we were able to snag one! There's also a few on the front sidewalk. The sandwiches are super fresh, affordable, and great portion sizes. There are tons of sandwiches and it's hard to choose! There are plenty of side options to choose from, as well. I landed on the CT based on a recommendation from who I believe to be one of the owners. It did not disappoint! It was very unique and tasty. Spicy, but not too spicy and the pimento cheese eases some of the heat. Think: local deli and CFA's Honey Pepper Pimento had a baby. My dad got the Meatball Sub and my mom the Club. They both loved theirs. My mom tried the pasta salad, it was good but if you are not an olive fan you will not like this one! Very olive heavy. All ingredients were fresh. I chose the Italian my wife had BLT.My Italian was very good just as expected with that good Boar's head meat.My wife loves a good BLT and it was not a disappointment.And we definitely got another chocolate chip cookie. On our third trip I wanted eggplant parmigiana. A first for me. The sauce alone with the good sub roll made for good first time try for me. Stopped here on a whim. The deli is much smaller than I expected, but sufficient. Staff at front counter was helpful/knowledgeable. Ended up ordering the tuna melt with a side of German potato salad. Chose to eat in my car and thankfully this was not too messy! The tuna sandwich was fantastic and the horseradish mayo added a little extra zing. I love a good sandwich so I was excited to try O'Briens in person. I've gotten to try their tuna and egg salad at an event and both were tasty. So on this visit, I had a half a tuna sandwich with pasta salad combo. The staff was very nice. The tuna salad was really good and so was the pasta salad. The tuna salad had the perfect balance of flavor and texture. I love the different combinations you could make for your meal. First time in today. The place is very clean with a sanitation grade 98.0! Friendly service and the food was on point. I love that they have a half sandwich/ half soup option bc I love both, but can't always eat an entire sandwich and soup. I tried the chicken and rice soup with half of The Rachel (turkey reuben). The soup was super hot and just the right amount of. The Rachel wasn't a skimpy sandwich and was very tasty. My husband tried The Cuban and really enjoyed it.
