German potato salad, hard to find a tasty version like this!

Death, Taxes, and the classic Reuben from O'Briens Deli. All certainties, but only one of them enjoyable. When anyone asks me where to find the best reuben in Winston, I tell them go to the place that proudly proclaims in their window that they are "The Home of the Reuben" and can back it up... O'Briens! It's a small place, a few outdoor tables, and probably 6-8 inside. They do a lot of to-go business, for good reason. The lunch crowd will never shy away from a sandwich here... of which I have had several. But the reuben indeed stands alone. One of the keys to their success is a happy and engaged staff. The owner, Josh, realizes this and takes great care of them. He believes his success should also be theirs, and that is evident in their demeanor. On to the Reuben. Why is it so good? The pictures really say it all. Corned beef stacked high, with a good ratio of kraut, swiss cheese, deli mustard, and grilled Jewish rye bread. Visually impressive, leads perfectly into orally outstanding. You'll be full and happy, and wondering why you'd order it anywhere else. Not to mention, check them out around St. Patrick's day for traditional Irish stew!

OMG... That was the Best Racheal I've ever had. It was fresh, good size and juicy! It was perfect and I got it with this massive half pickle which I think was made in store. Amazing! My sone had a regular Reuben.. he was almost in a coma from all that meat. But the craziest part is we got mini's so what's the full size?! Amazing! Service was great too.

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. It was packed but the line to order at the counter moved pretty fast. We got the Reuben to split as it's rather large. It's their signature sandwich and it was delicious. There are limited tables inside. A lot of people got orders to go. Parking can be a challenge but things open up quickly. Another sandwich being ordered was the Cuban. An idea for the next trip.

After having cataract eye surgery and fasting since 8 PM last night, the first thing I did was head to O'Brien's. With so many great delicious choices of their signature sandwiches. I went with the Cuban. A savory sandwich, full of juice and every bite from the tender pork and the pickles for acidity. Their signature sandwiches never disappoint. My daughter got the secret sandwich that is not on the menu, which is the bacon, egg and cheese, a staple in New York. With a decent amount of bacon and served on a Kaiser roll, which is the New York Way it is the perfect sandwich. Not just for breakfast but anytime of day. My wife also went with a signature chicken Parmesan. A perfectly cooked chicken cutlet with a savory tomato sauce and melted cheese is a delight in every bite. I have never had a bad experience at O'Brien's. It continues to be the best New York style deli in Winston-Salem.

It doesn't get better than O'Briens in Winston-Salem. The Reuben and The Rachel are so special. Any foodie visiting our city, you must include this on your stops. A regular size is honestly enough to split, unless you love leftovers. Currently happily eating my leftovers as I leave this review.

The best Rachel in town! If you're a fan of New York delis this is a MUST try! I love the mini Rachel (mini is an understatement) and my husband loved the steak Philly. Staff is always so nice!

1/2 chicken cheddar melt, cup of chicken rice soup & 1/2 pickle.

Really like their chicken cheddar melt sandwich. They chop the chicken which makes it not heavy with great flavor. I got the 1/2 sandwich & soup combo. Also their dill pickles are fantastic - a half is usually good. When my eyes are too big I'll get a full & end up bringing 1/2 home.

The meatball sub brought be back after a lovely yelp event. Service is always fast and friendly and the food is always fresh. Theres plenty of seating inside to enjoy your meal.

    A super big Reuben

Great local sandwich place. Located in a strip mall area, the seating on site is pretty small as is the shop itself. The focus is obviously food first and foremost and they do a great job of that. They have a large variety of different toppings, "pre-selected" sandwiches and standard deli items like macaroni salad, potato salad, chips and carry Dr. Brown's soda which is a good quality soda. Most of the time I've been here I've had the Reuben, you can't really go wrong with that choice and it's obviously the store's flagship sandwich for a reason. Every ingredient I've had is high quality, from the bread to the meat to the condiments. They obviously take care to produce good food. One of the times I visited I had their St Patrick's Day special of corned beef, cabbage and soda bread. The cabbage was just okay but the corned beef was of course amazing. The soda bread was the real star and it makes me sad it's not a regular offering. The only downside I'd note was it can get a little pricey and add up quickly if you have a couple people and start adding drinks or sides. Value could be a little better, even considering the food is well made and high quality. Overall this is a great place I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a local quality deli. Service is also prompt and wait times are reasonable even during busy times.

Amazing deli!!! We we're driving through Winston-Salem on a road trip to the beach, and decided to make a stop in town. We looked up several different places, but noticed that this deli had excellent reviews, and decided to give it a shot. We are very glad that we chose to do so, because everything here was exactly as an old school authentic deli should be. The staff were super friendly, our orders came out promptly, and everything was just delicious. I highly recommend the Reuben. It is quite big, so they're half Reuben is a reasonably good option as well. Their Cubano sandwich was also amazing, and their meatball hoagie was a hit with one of our kids. Their pickles are excellent as well, and I recommend enjoying one of these instead of a bag of chips if you like them. The ambience is comfortable, and there is a lot of foot traffic, which they keep up with very impressively. Parking can be as somewhat of an issue, but don't be afraid to park around back if there are no parking spots up front. We do drive through Winston-Salem fairly regularly, and we will most definitely be back for more!! well done!!!

I came here on a Thursday around noon with one other person. There was a decent crowd which further confirms how great this place is. We did not wait long to order and the food came out pretty fast. I had ordered the club with no tomato with macaroni salad. The sandwich was so fresh tasting. The macaroni salad had a tang taste to it, but I enjoyed it more than the potato salad. I might just continue trying their different side items to see what I like best. The staff were so nice and checked in on us even though they were not waiters. Definitely my new favorite place.

    Steak Philly Signature Sandwich
    Janet C.

It was fairly busy but the staff was quick and friendly. I got the steak Philly - the cheese was nicely melted, onions grilled perfectly. The bread was fresh. Not much of an ambiance as the place is small but it's a deli. Very clean and the staff take care of you-they come and check on you, refill your drink. It's a must go to!

It was a busy lunch hour when we pulled in, but still able to find parking without difficulty. Several copies of the menu are taped along the booth partitions that create the order line walkway. Lots of options, and I went with the TJ's Club Special. Order taken and paid for at the front counter, and we selected a table near the front window. The place was definitely busy with both takeout and dine-in orders. Restaurant was well-lit, comfortable, and clean. Mishap #1, we noticed a lot of other order numbers being called besides ours so my wife went up to inquire and it somehow got labeled with a different patron's name and put off to the side. Hey, mistakes happen and the order contents itself were accurate. My wife got the half-sandwich and soup and made the comment that the soup was nice and hot. My Club sandwich was PACKED with meat like you'd expect if your grandma had made it. I got my sandwich with their pasta salad and it was delicious. Mishap #2, we were hoping to use the restroom before leaving but it was labelled "out of order". For all I know, a plumber might have been dispatched, but this is one of those things I would think you need to take care of ASAP when offering a dine-in option. TJ's is definitely a must-try for a great deli sandwich.

It was hot and delicious although I felt the tortilla wrap was a little stiff like maybe they didn't warm it before adding the ingredients. My husband got an Italian Hoagie. He had them take off the 1000 Island and add mayo instead. He enjoyed it a lot. We also got a side of Onion Rings to share. The first thing we noticed was how dark in color they were and also the abundance of seasoning. My husband took a bite of one and immediately started coughing because of the super salty flavor of them. Having a long history in the restaurant business, we could tell they were re-fried and obviously re-seasoned. He returned them to the counter where they gave us a fresh batch without a problem. The new ones were visibly much better however, as long time customers of TJ's we noticed how much thicker the breading was than it used to be. I was disappointed the batter was so prominent I couldn't really taste the onion. I think they either changed their breading or changed the way they bread them. I wasn't a fan though so I will hesitate to order any breaded items from now on. The dining room, as always was bright and clean bustling with customers eating lunch. The service is nothing but friendly there every time we visit as well. I will continue to frequent TJ's Deli.

I have found Jason's to be flying against these trends, consistently providing stable value and consistent flavor from a menu that is large and varied - with their full salad bar providing one of the very best values at any restaurant, national or local. On this visit, I was again picking up several items for a small family group. We chose fully loaded containers from the salad bar, a bow of chili, and a full sized Reuben sandwich. Once home, we split the items up for all to enjoy - nothing disappointed! This was a first try with the chili, and it was quite nice - plenty of well seasoned ground beef, no beans or onions, but was well topped with cheddar cheese! The Reuben contained 8 ounces of hot, tasty corned beef, great cheese, plenty of kraut, marble rye, and lots of 1000 Island Dressing. It was cut into the required pieces, and the additional dressing was shared - a bit messy but delicious in total. The center piece was the large amount of variety in the salad, and when well covered in the dressing this was great - not especially healthy with the amount of dressing I added! I'll be back soon as I noticed they are offering Beef Stew for a while - gotta try that.
